| Kath Jones is back |
Kath Jones alights and looks at the house. Meanwhile, inside, it is breakfast-time
![]() |
| "Hey, Mam-gu's outside!" |
and Ricky notices ‘Mam-gu’ outside. Mark assumes he is referring to Dol, but then Kath walks into the house.
“Ricky – you’ve grown, unlike your father!” she remarks, then, noticing Debbie,
![]() |
| "What's she doing here?" |
demands, “What’s she doing here?”
![]() |
| "We're back together!" |
Debbie proudly announces that she and Mark are back together; “You’ll be happy until she breaks your heart again!” is Kath’s caustic comment.
![]() |
| "All you do is argue!" |
Ricky urges them to stop bickering, as all this family does is to argue; Kath concurs, “We’re pretty good at hiding things too –
![]() |
| "I heard what Jim Probert did to you!" |
“I heard what happened – what Jim Probert did to you! They didn’t tell me – Diane phoned.”
![]() |
| "Diane, we're going out" |
At Bryntirion, Dai tells Diane that they are going out to see Jim to see if he’s serious about selling his share of APD;
![]() |
| "You're the D of APD" |
“You’re the D of APD, so you should be involved!” he tells Diane, who argues that Jim is still grieving, and they should leave it for a while.
![]() |
| "The company is going bust!" |
“Meanwhile the company is going bust – I can’t do all the work myself!” replies Dai.
![]() |
| Someone else wants to phone the police |
Kath announces, “I’m doing what you should have done last week – phoning the police!” They plead with her not to do that, and Ricky explains that he was seeing Courtney. “That’s no reason to kidnap you!” she says.
![]() |
| "Please don't phone anyone!" |
“Jim was upset that Courtney had died – please don’t phone anyone – I don’t ask for much!” urges Ricky, and Kath relents.
![]() |
| "That's Vicky's baby!" |
Then the baby monitor bursts into life, and Kath is informed that Vicky and her son, Nicky are living there.
![]() |
| "A hotel for her family!" |
“So that’s why madam is here – this is a hotel for her family!” Kath rages.
![]() |
| Britt removes the decorations |
Britt is taking down the Christmas decorations in the Deri, although Dani protests that they should stay up until the sixth,
![]() |
| "I'm going out – you're too busy!" |
and then goes out. Garry laments that he cannot do anything right.
“I thought you’d be all over each other – like me and Colin!” exclaims Britt,
![]() |
| Garry finds the thought of Britt and Colin distasteful |
and Garry grimaces at the very thought of that.
![]() |
| "We won't have a business left!" |
Up in the shop flat, Dai spells out to Eileen, “If he doesn’t come back soon, we won’t have a business left! I have to turn down contracts as I can’t cope.”
![]() |
| "Oh, Jim, Dai and Diane have come to see how you are" |
Jim appears in his dressing gown and Eileen tells him that Dai and Diane have come to see how he is.
![]() |
| "Are you coming back to APD or not?" |
Dai gets straight to the point; “I don’t have time to mess about – are you coming back to APD or not, Jim?”
![]() |
| "How many more times?" |
Jim answers, “How many more times? I have no interest in APD any more – but I am sorry about what happened last week. I didn’t mean to frighten anyone.”
![]() |
| "What has been going on?" |
Dai is utterly confused, as he has not been told of the plastic shovel incident.
![]() |
| "I kidnapped Ricky" |
Jim admits, “I kidnapped Ricky, and Diane got caught in the middle.”
![]() |
| "You obviously did something!" |
Dai wants to know what he did to her; “You obviously did something!” he rants, as Diane tries to get him to leave.
![]() |
| "I wouldn't work with you if you paid me!" |
“I could throttle you!” he snarls, “I wouldn’t work with you if you paid me!” and stomps off out of the flat.
![]() |
| "Sorry about the job" |
In the Deri, Mathew tells Britt he had to stay in on New Year’s Eve, as he has no money, and she commiserates about him losing his job.
![]() |
| Garry wants Britt to do some overtime |
Garry comes in and asks her to work later, but she insists she wants to be with the kids.
“I want to organise a surprise for Dani!”, he says, “I haven’t asked for a favour for ages.”
![]() |
| "There's someone who will work for you" |
Britt points out that is because he has not been here, and informs him that there is someone who will work for him,
![]() |
| "I'm not employing him!" |
but he is adamant he will not employ Mathew. Garry loudly announces to the clientèle, “Right, drink up– we’re closing!”
![]() |
| "I think I was more scared than Ricky" |
As they arrive home at Bryntirion, Dai wonders why Diane kept so quiet about what happened. “I think I was more scared than Ricky, but Dani persuaded him to let us go,” she tells him,
![]() |
| "I just want to forget it" |
“I just want to forget about it – but I can’t with you going on and on!”
![]() |
| "Right, what's your game?" |
Kath wants to know what Debbie’s game is; “She’s got her feet under the table and a new home for Vicky and the baby – and no-one told me.”
![]() |
| "We love each other, Mam!" |
When told that Mark and Debbie love each other,
![]() |
| "All she's ever done is tell lies!" |
she scoffs, “All she has ever done is tell lies!”
![]() |
| "Remember that – when I needed you most?" |
Mark points out, “Debs stood up for me when no-one else wanted to know – when I was wrongly sent to jail – remember that? When I needed you most!”
![]() |
| Kath is temporarily silenced |
Kath goes uncharacteristically quiet; “What’s wrong? Lost your tongue all of a sudden?” jeers Debbie.
Mark concludes, “You thought I was guilty! My own mother should believe in me. That explains why you stayed away.”
![]() |
| "Tell her, Mark!" |
Debbie tell Kath that she is not welcome there, and when reminded that it is Kath’s house, responds that it makes no difference.
“Tell her, Mark!” Kath pleads, but he turns away, so she takes her case and leaves.
![]() |
| "You're making a fool of yourself!" |
But Mark soon has second thoughts and calls her back, although she insists, “You’re making a fool of yourself.” He points out that they are back together, and he does not want to have to choose between Debs and her.
![]() |
| "I'm not apologising to her!" |
“I’m not apologising to her!” Kath shouts.
![]() |
| "She won't apologise to you, either |
Mark assures her, “Don’t worry – she won’t apologise to you, either!”
![]() |
| "Wait till she finds Dol is living here too!" |
Inside, Debbie warns him that there will be trouble when she finds out that Dol is also living there.
![]() |
| "How long do you intend staying?" |
Debbie asks if she intends to stay long, and is told that it depends on the welcome Kath receives. She then decides to go out and get some fresh air, while Debbie changes the sheets in the spare room.
![]() |
| "If you think a plate of smoked salmon will do the trick . . ." |
Garry’s surprise for Dani does not begin well; “I’m not going to forgive you for a plate of smoked salmon! You have no idea how lonely I’ve been,” she tells him.
![]() |
| "Well, you have been keeping busy" |
He replies that she has been organising the pantomime and been to parties, but she insists,
![]() |
| "I wanted to be with you!" |
“I wanted to be with you – I would have come with you if you asked.”
“You wouldn’t have wanted to be where I was on Christmas day,” he assures her, “But I’m here now, so let’s enjoy ourselves!”
![]() |
| "You're afraid I'll go and sort Jim out! |
Diane appears not to want to let Dai out of her sight; “I know what’s wrong with you,” he says, “You’re afraid I’ll go to see Jim and sort him out. But I’ve got too much to do – at least half a dozen jobs,” and he goes into APD, shutting the door behind him.
![]() |
| Diane stays away from Eileen |
Diane sees Eileen across the street and hurries away.
![]() |
| Jim is about to get a surprise |
In the shop flat, a visitor creeps up behind Jim and announces, “Well, well, well, there’s the coward!”
![]() |
| "You have no right to be here!" |
Jim protests that Kath has no right to be there,
![]() |
| "You had no right to kidnap Ricky!" |
and she adds, “You had no right to kidnap Ricky, but that didn’t stop you! I want to make sure you know how wrong your actions were!
![]() |
| "I'm not leaving you in peace!" |
“The police might be leaving you in peace, but I’m not! Did it make you feel better, threatening Ricky? Feel more of a man?”
![]() |
| "We understand each other" |
Jim replies that he and Ricky understand each other; “Well, we’re going to understand each other now – you’re a bully, and you’ve crossed the wrong family this time!
![]() |
| She certainly looks vicious |
“If you go near Ricky again, there will be no police, no investigation – just me and my family sorting you out – understand?”
![]() |
| The blazing Christmas pudding |
As they sit watching the flaming Christmas pudding,
![]() |
| "Don't you think you've sulked enough?" |
Garry enquires, “Don’t you think you’ve sulked enough? All right, I stayed away too long, and I’m sorry.”
![]() |
| "Why is the bar closed?" |
Britt walks in demanding why the bar is closed; “Someone refused to work for me,” says Garry.
![]() |
| "We shall lose a fortune!" |
Britt predicts that the pub will lose a fortune, and as she has admitted that Catrin and Aaron are with friends, while Chester is hiding in his room,
![]() |
| "Well, you go and reopen then" |
Garry suggests she could reopen the bar, to give her something to do.
![]() |
| A gift from Garry |
He then produces a gift for Dani, which she hopes did not come off the back of a lorry, and she is highly unimpressed to find it is a bottle of Ouzo;
![]() |
| "Ouzo – I hate the stuff!" |
“You don’t listen to me – I said I hate the stuff!”
Removing the bottle from its box, Garry advises,
![]() |
| At first she looks unimpressed . . . |
“Sometimes you have to look more closely,”
![]() |
| . . . but when the bottle is turned round . . . |
and shows that the bottle contains a ring, suspended inside.
![]() |
| . . . she cannot wait to pour away the horrible Ouzo . . . |
She rushes to the sink and pours away the Ouzo,
![]() |
| . . . and put on the (rather sticky?) ring |
retrieving the ring, which is just the right size.
“I don’t know what to say,” she confesses, “It’s just a shame I didn’t get it on Christmas Day!”
![]() |
| Looks like a reconciliation |
They kiss, the animosity apparently forgotten.
![]() |
| "We have to get all Dol's stuff out of here!" |
Mark and Debbie frantically try to remove all Dol’s clothes from the spare room when they are interrupted by Kath’s arrival.
![]() |
| "Why did you touch my case?" |
She objects to Mark touching her case,
![]() |
| They are told to go |
and orders them both out of the room.
![]() |
| She is hanging on to whatever is in that bag |
Then she opens the case, taking out something, wrapped in a white plastic bag, which she clutches tightly.
