28 September 2017

"You promised it would be installed two days ago!"
At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion protests to Dai, “You promised the bathroom would be installed two days ago!   It’s Friday tomorrow, and another week will have passed!”
Of course, it is not Dai's fault . . .
He demands that she give him a chance to explain, and as Gethin comes in, he maintains that it is not APD’s fault, but that of the delivery company.   He insists that he has been on the phone to them three times,
. . . it is the delivery company
and their boss has promised they will be delivered next Wednesday, as he had a shortage of lorries.
Gethin asks when he will install the bathroom, and is told, “As soon as it comes off the lorry – I never go back or my word.”
Ffion has her doubts about this
Ffion regards this with a degree of scepticism, and says that she feels let down, in view of the fact she has already paid half the fee.
"Up to your chin in bubbles!"
Dai responds, “Look at it this way – by the end of next week, you’ll be up to your chin in bubbles, in a brand-new bath!”
"You talk to the sorting office"
Mark delivers the mail to APD, and Jason complains that it is one o’clock, but Mark tells him not to have a go, but to take it up with the sorting office.   “There’s even a Welsh customer services line!” he says.
"I've gained us some time, until Wednesday"
Dai returns and reports to Diane that he has gained them a bit of time, until Wednesday, when the bathroom has to be fitted.
"How about that horse bloke in Llanarthur?"
Jason reminds him of the hay barn for that horse bloke in Llanarthur.   “Cysgod y Glyn’s bathroom has been hiding under that tarpaulin for days!” Dai answers,
"We have to keep our balls in mid-air"
“It’s important to keep our balls juggling in mid-air,” and he wants Jason to go putting fliers through people’s letterboxes.
"We can't cope with the work we have"
Diane is furious;  “We can’t cope with the work we have, without touting for more business!”   Jason cannot deliver them anyway,
"I'm going to tidy up the churchyard"
as he is going to tidy up the churchyard for Wendy’s and Raymond’s wedding.
"Crikey Moses!"
“Not Raymond Wynne, Cwrtmynach?” enquires Dai, “Did you have to offer?   You know how busy we are here!   Crikey Moses!   Why does life have to be so complicated?”
"He's lost his marbles!"
Diane comments to Jason that Dai has lost his marbles.
Catrin will join Colin later
Catrin is going with Colin to the churchyard, as soon as she comes home from school.
"Remember it has to be done properly"
Colin tells her, “Remember, it all has to be done properly – it’s our first job.”
"We're taking the wedding photos"
Debbie overhears this, and wants to know what they were talking about;  “We’re taking photographs at a wedding, using the drone,” he tells her.
"If it had been flying when Linda died . . ."
Debbie remarks, “That drone would be handy to spy on people here,” and he agrees that if the drone had been flying at the time of Linda’s death, perhaps they would know did it.
"Why would he want to kill Linda?"
“It’s obvious who did it – that doctor is dodgy!” she insists, but Colin wondered why he would want to kill Linda, as the poor woman did not have any money.
“Maybe he’s a psycho, and gets a kick from killing his patients,” she goes on, “Maybe he’s already killed dozens – you never know.
"Didn't your father go to the surgery the day he died?"
“I don’t want to be insensitive, but didn’t your father go to the surgery the day he died?”
Colin looks very concerned
This sows the seeds of doubt in Colin’s mind, and he looks concerned.
"That Sioned and Gwyneth made a terrible mess"
Mark brings the post for the café and Debbie tells him she has been scrubbing the kitchen, as there was a heck of mess in there.   “Gwyneth and Sioned came back hammered last night, and stole some food.   I’m waiting for them to get up, and then . . .”
"Well, now's your chance, Deb"
Mark sees them coming out of the café,
"Pay up, or I go to the cops!"
and Debbie shouts, “Oi!   Where are you going?   I want compo for all the mess!   Do you know how long it took me to scrub the kitchen?   Pay up, or I go to the cops!”
"We said we were sorry"
Sioned reminds her that they said they were sorry,
"Yes, you can do something for me"
but Mark suggests they could do a couple of jobs for her.   Gwyneth asks what she wants them to do.
Dai meets an old friend
In the Deri, Dai is speaking to a man, who enquires how things are going, and Dai replies that he is working his guts out at all hours.   “The construction business has changed since you retired – it’s full of red tape, with more forms to fill in.
"APD has landed in a bit of bother"
“The bureaucracy has gone mad, and that’s how APD has landed in a bit of bother – we’re up in court next week, and according to legal advice, we are facing a huge fine.   I don’t know where to turn – it could be the end of APD.”
"There is always something which can be done"
The other man, apparently called Vernon, replies that there is always something that can be done, but first he wants to learn more about this mess which Dai is in.
"Start at the beginning"
“Start at the beginning and we’ll see what we can do.”
Colin films the window-cleaners
Colin is practising his camera technique by filming Sioned and Gwyneth, who have been put to work cleaning the café windows.   Sioned is in a bad mood,
Kelly and Ed walk past
which is not improved when she sees Kelly and Ed walking past.
"It's looking very bleak for you!"
Vernon shakes his head, commenting, “I would say it’s looking very bleak for you!” and Dai demands if there is any hope.   Mark takes a seat within earshot of the pair.
Ed has a job in his sights . . .
Kelly and Ed come into the Deri, and Ed appears to have found a promising job opportunity, Kelly advising that he ask for further details.   His mind is on other things;
. . . but is still preoccupied with Sioned
“Sioned will do all she can to convince them that she is innocent.   I shall go and see her.”
Vernon recommends the 'nuclear option' . . .
Vernon recommends, “You could always go for the nuclear option.”
. . . which intrigues Mark
Dai wonders what that is, and is told, “It’s a bit drastic, but it’s what I did when things went pear-shaped.   You don’t have any other option.”   By this time, Mark is listening intently to the conversation.
"Let the old business go – and set up a new one"
Dai enquires what this nuclear option involves;  the answer is, “You let the old business go – and then you set up a new one.”
Back at APD, Diane cannot believe what she hears, when Dai suggests “Wind up APD!” which says that it is the first step;
Dai explains the plan to Jason and Diane
“Then we set up a new company straightaway with a new name, so we won’t be answerable for anything connected to APD.”
"Can people do that?"
Jason is incredulous that people can do that, but Dai explains it will be a new company with a new registration number, and it will not be connected with APD.   Diane insists that they will still be responsible for APD’s problems.
"They'd have to prove the new company is a sham"
“Not according to Vernon,” say Dai, “If anyone wanted to take us to court, they’d have to prove the new company’s a sham!”
"Which is exactly what it is!"
Diane is under the impression that it would be exactly that, but he describes it as, “A way of moving forward – we would still be able to trade.”
It does not sound right to Jason, who asks, “Do you really believe a clown like Vernon Walters, with his track record?”
Dai protests that Jason has not come up with a better idea.
"What – setting up a new company?"
Mark passes on to Debbie what he heard in;  “Setting up a new company instead of APD?” she asks, and Mark says that they are up to their eyes in debt.   She realises that is why Dai got her to bribe Tony.
Sioned and Gwyneth have accomplished their tasks
Sioned and Gwyneth have completed the tasks required of them, and leave as Ffion is approaching;  she looks rather down, and admits that she does not want to go home.
"I'm having problems with APD"
“It’s hard keeping Arwen clean without a bath.   I’m having problems with APD – they’ve taken out the old bathroom, and the new one should have arrived two days ago.
"Dai says it won't be here until Wednesday"
“Now Dai says it won’t be here until next Wednesday.”
"Go on, Mark – tell her!"
Debbie prompts Mark to tell her what he has heard about APD.
Jason is at work in the churchyard
In the churchyard, Jason is tidying up when Colin and Catrin arrive;
"Oh, I wanted to demonstrate the drone to her"
they are told that they have just missed the bride.   Colin wanted to demonstrate the drone to her.   “She is so excited to see what the church looks like from the air,” Jason tells them.
Colin has a morbid fascination for the gravestones
As they walk across the churchyard, Colin looks in a preoccupied fashion at the gravestones;  then he prepares to get the drone airborne.
"Answer me – is it true?"
At APD, Dai wants to know where Ffion heard about this, but she is insistent she does not want any nonsense;  “Answer me – is it true?”
"Of course not – Cwmderi is the place for gossip"
Of course, Dai maintains there is no truth in the rumour, stressing that Cwmderi is the place for gossip.   “So there is no basis to what I’ve heard?” she demands.
"You shouldn't listen to a clown like Mark Jones"
Then she asks Diane for a second opinion, and Dai describes it as ‘fake news’.   “Mark told me he heard you and another man talking about winding up APD,” says Ffion;  Dai warns her not to listen to a clown like Mark Jones.
"I'm going to phone Gethin!"
She decides she will ring Gethin, as this is not good enough;
Things do not look good
Dai and Diane look at each other.
Colin steers his drone . . .
In the churchyard, Colin is navigating his drone,
. . . across the heavens . . .
and Catrin advise him to bring it in this direction;  suddenly he catches sight of one particular gravestone,
. . . until his mind wanders
and his attention is diverted from the task in hand.   “Not that way – you’re going the wrong way!   Colin, bring it back!” Catrin shouts.
"Where has it gone?"
Too late, he concentrates on the controls, but the drone is nowhere to be seen;
They rush off on a wild-drone-chase
he rushes round the end of the church, trying to find it.   Catrin comes to the conclusion that he has lost it.
"I can't show you just yet"
When Jason comes to ask how it is going, Colin lies that he has captured the best shots yet, but he cannot show Jason just yet, as he is planning a complicated manoeuvre;
Colin fabricates a tale . . .
“Down towards the church, with the sun behind it, round the back, and . . .”   Catrin says that he can see them tomorrow, and Jason is looking forward eagerly to the wedding.
. . . but does not know what he is going to do
Colin looks up desperately into the sky.
"We're not going anywhere until we get our money back!"
At APD, Gethin threatens, “Ffion and I are not going anywhere until we get our money back!”   Once more, Dai insists there will not be a problem,
"It will be installed next Wednesday"
and the bathroom will be installed next Wednesday.
"What if APD doesn't even exist then?"
“What if APD doesn’t even exist then?” Gethin demands, “We’ll pay the entire cost after you’ve finished – we’re not going to be out of pocket!   Give us our money back now!”
"Come on, Dai – write them a cheque!"
Diane hands the chequebook to Dai, and he reluctantly writes a cheque;  Ffion is glad that common sense has prevailed,
"And I hope it doesn't bounce!"
and Gethin hopes that it does not bounce.   Dai shuts the door behind them, and then closes the shop.
"What's wrong with you, Diane?"
“What’s wrong with you?   The financial mess we are in!” he roars, but Diane points out she had no other choice.
"If they find out the bathroom's round the back"
She wonders what would happen if Ffion and Gethin went out the back and found the bathroom – then they would be in an even worse mess.
"Mark Jones!   Wait till I get hold of him!"
“Mark Jones!” snarls Dai, “Wait till I get hold of him!” and he stomps out of the shop.
"You can buy a new one"
Colin says that it is a disaster, but Catrin urges him to buy a new one, as he has plenty of cash.   He replies, “The shops in Swansea will be closed by now.
"I started to think of Dad"
My mind wandered in the graveyard, when I saw all the graves – I started to think of Dad.”
"Ed, have you seen Kelly?"
Then Ed passes, and Colin asks if he knows where Kelly is, as she may know a photographer from the Western Post who has a drone.   “The best thing is to phone Wendy and be honest,” Catrin recommends, but he will not do that;  he is determined to find another drone.
"Spreading lies about APD?"
Dai is lying in wait for Mark when he comes out of the chip shop;  “What’s this I’ve heard about you?   Spreading lies about APD around Cwmderi?”
"It's only right that people know about it"
Mark points out that APD is in trouble, and it is only right people know about it.
Dai adopts a threatening tone
“Unless you stop, you’ll regret it!” warns Dai, “After all the things I’ve done for you this past year.   I gave you extra time to pay, and this is how you treat me.”
"I'll take the story to CwmFM!"
Mark responds, “You know what?   I don’t like the way people treat each other here!   Unless you stop putting these flyers through people’s doors, I’ll take the story to CwmFM!”
Sioned is recovering from her hangover . . .
Gwyneth and Sioned are beginning to feel better after their heavy night,
. . . until Ed arrives
but then Ed appears in the doorway, wanting a word in private with Sioned.
"We could make this more difficult, or easier"
Gwyneth leaves, and Ed says they need to sort a few things out so they understand each other.   “We could both make this more difficult, or easier for each other.”
"Why would I make it easier for you?"
Sioned wonders why she would want to make it any easier for him, and he replies, “Because whatever else you are, you’re not stupid, and I know you well enough know that you’re scared.”
"You're more scared than me!"
She maintains that he is more scared than she is – why else would he be there.   “You’re desperate to know how I’m going to plead.”
"You're desperate for me not to say you raped me!"
He in turn points out that she is desperate for him not to say she raped him, and wants them to come to an understanding.
"You'd do anything to avoid court"
“Why should I?” she answers, “You’d do anything not to have to appear in court.”
"If I mention it, your sentence will be heavier"
Ed reminds her that if he mentions the rape, her sentence will be much heavier;  there is solid evidence against her, and she knows it.  He wonders who Sioned’s mother will side with.
She does not think that he will stand up in that court, as he is too ashamed,
"I'll have to stand up in court . . ."
but he assures her, “If you plead not guilty, I’ll have to – and when I stand there,
". . . and I'll reveal every detail of our marriage!"
“I will take my time, and reveal every detail about our marriage.”   Sioned’s face falls, and he asks, “What’s it going to be?”
"OK, I'll plead guilty"
She nods, and very quietly whispers, “OK, I’ll plead guilty.”   He turns and leaves the flat.
