6 September 2017 (2nd)

The hunt for a flat is unsuccessful
Mathew has not had any luck with looking for somewhere for him and Vicky to live;
"When the benefits come in, we'll be OK"
she says that when the benefits start coming in they will be OK, but he replies that they may take a long time to sort out.   She is confident that Siôn will not kick them out, then starts using some of Sheryl’s perfume.
"You can't use their stuff!"
“You can’t use their stuff!” Mathew protests, and goes out, urging her to tidy up or something;  “Look at the state of this place!”
Diane has just given a customer a discount,
"We need every penny!"
and Dai complains, “We need every penny!”
"When are you going to start the work?"
Then Megan comes in, asking when they will start the work, reminding Dai that he said it would be soon.   “Yes, the job will be done as arranged,” he assures her, and she says she has friends coming from Argentina, whom she has not seen since schooldays.
"That was a long time ago"
“That was a long time ago,” remarks Dai, “Look, Megan, I said two weeks and it will be completed in two weeks!”
"She was showing off"
Once she has left APD, Dai comments, “Argentina, indeed – she was showing off, that’s all, but Diane has opened the post and is looking very worried.
Court case on 4 October
A date is been set for the court case – 4th October, and she wonders what they are going to do.
"What if Debbie had a word with him?"
“Tony said that it is too late to stop the case now – what if Debbie had a word with him?   We don’t have any choice –
The future does not look very rosy
“with a fine of goodness knows how much and customers cancelling, we won’t have a business left!”
"You're going to make yourself ill"
At Maes-y-Deri, Mark is off to work, and warns that Debbie is going to make herself ill with worry;  “What do you expect?” she replies, “Vicky and Nicky are in a hostel, mixing with all sorts.”
"She's probably staying with friends"
Mark suspects that Vicky is only trying to make her mother feel guilty, and is probably staying in a house with friends.   He reminds her that Vicky can sulk for Wales.
"You think I was too hard on them, don't you?"
“You think I was too hard on them, don’t you?” she demands, and he replies that it was a silly argument, and every one overreacted;  he is sure that she will come home when she realises how hard it is out there.
She is still worried
This does little to make Debbie feel better.
"You can't ignore me for ever"
Chester chases up the alley after Hannah, insisting that she cannot ignore him for ever, and that he wants to explain.   “You could have ruined Mrs Llywelyn’s life!” she replies;  he confesses that it was his own fault, and that he really regrets it.
"At least you have admitted it"
“At least you have admitted it,” she says, unenthusiastically, “I have to go.”
Dai enlists Debbie's assistance
Dai visits Maes-y-Deri;  “I’m not asking you to do anything difficult,” he tells Debbie, “Just take Tony out for a drink.”
"Ive got to ask him not to take APD to court?"
She points out that she is expected to ask Tony not to take APD to court.
"Don't ask him straight out like that!"
Dai advises, “Don’t ask him straight out like that!   Use your influence – use this friendship you’ve got – put the feelers out.   Find out what I have to do to sort out this misunderstanding – I’m pleading with you, Debbie!   Diane is worried sick – don’t dismiss what Diane has done for Ricky over the years.”
The first of two £50 notes changes hands
He takes out his wallet and hands over a £50 note;  “Fifty pounds to save your business?” she says, incredulously, so he hands over another one.   “I’m not making any promises,” Debbie warns him,
"Easy money!"
and as he leaves, she looks proudly at the money.
Megan at her shop
Vicky has been doing housework, and shakes a duster out of the front door;  Megan, who is outside her shop, sees Vicky.   “Good morning – you’re living here now, are you?”
"They didn't want to leave the house empty"
Vicky explains that it is only temporary, while Sheryl and Hywel are away, as they did not want to leave the house empty.
Siôn does not look very happy
Siôn looks concerned as he approaches, and Megan remarks that people must be careful about burglaries;  “You can’t trust anyone these days.”   When Megan has returned to her shop,
"No-one else must find out!"
Siôn is angry with Vicky, and does not want anyone else to know, or she will be out of the house.
Siôn is unaware . . .
Vicky retreats into the house and Siôn closes the door behind her;
. . . that he is being watched
but Mark has just emerged from the alley and sees them.
Chester wants a book on Welsh . . .
Chester asks Siôn if he can come and visit him later, asking to borrow a book for A-level Welsh;
. . . and also asks for advice
“If you want to show you regret your actions, how do you get them to believe you?” he asks.
“There might be a clue in your question,” Siôn answers,
"Actions speak louder than words"
“You should show them, rather than tell them – actions speak louder than words, don’t they?”   Chester appreciates this advice.
Tony is enjoying a break in the Deri
Tony is drinking in the Deri when Debbie comes in;  he tells her it is nice to have a break, but she is rather subdued as she has quarrelled with her daughter.
Debbie explains her predicament
“She and my grandson have moved into a hostel, and I wondered if you could find out where they’re staying.”   He points out that there are rules and regulations,
"I'll see what I can do"
but he will see what he can do.
Vicky is cooking Sheryl's food . . .
When Mathew returns to the house, Vicky moans that she has not had time to search for a flat, as she has been tidying and preparing lunch for him.   She has found something in the freezer and it is presently cooking in the oven.   “Sheryl will never miss one!” she argues,
. . . and Mathew disapproves of this
but Mathew reminds her that this is not their house.
They hide as Mark appears
Then there is a knock at the back door, and Mark walks in;  they hide at the foot of the stairs, but he soon locates them.
"Right, you can come out now!"
“Right, you can come out now – I can’t believe you’ve been hiding under our noses all this time.   Your mother is worried sick!”
"It's Mam's own fault!"
Vicky replies that it is her own fault, but Mathew asks if they can move back in, as Siôn wants them out and they have no money.
“I’m not coming back, even if she begs me!” rants Vicky,
"I would rather sleep on the street!"
“I would rather sleep on the street!   And don’t you dare tell her we’re here!”   Without a further word, Mark turns and leaves.
"I haven't seen Chester lately"
In the café, Diane asks Hannah how Chester is, as she has not seen him for a few days, and suspects they have quarrelled.
"I found out about the business with Mrs Llywelyn"
Hannah says, “I found out about the business with Mrs Llywelyn – why didn’t you tell me?   Chester told me.”   Diane is pleased that he admitted it;  she was not happy about them at the start, but has been pleasantly surprised.
"It was such a messed-up thing to do!"
“But it was such a messed-up thing to do,” Hannah continues;  Diane points out that he has not had the best upbringing, and it was a long time ago.
“He has matured a lot since meeting you,” Diane assures her,
Hannah is complimented on taming Chester
which makes Hannah smile;  “The way he treats you, that’s what matters, not what other people think.”
Chester browses in Apêl Maenan
Chester is in Megan’s shop, looking at jewellery,
He finds a suitable bag
then he sees shoulder bag, which Megan says is £10.
He will pay £11 for the bag and bracelet
When she checks inside, she finds a bracelet, and Chester agrees to pay £10 for that and £1 for the bag.
"Thanks for letting Vicky and Mathew stay"
Siôn arrives in the Deri, and Mark thanks him for letting Vicky and Mathew stay at Hywel’s house.
Eifion realises it is public knowledge
Eifion looks rather disconcerted that anyone knows, and Siôn blames him;  “This is your fault – you should never have given them the key!”   Eifion protests that he was only trying to help.
Mark reveals that he has told them they can come home, but they do not want to move;  “If only Vicky wasn’t so stubborn.”
"We shall see about that!"
Siôn says he will see you about that, and marches off.
Tony chats with Debbie
As they continue chatting, Debbie tells Tony about when she moved from London to Spain;  he remarks that he was in London for a while, but he did not like the place, it was too big.   “There’s nothing like living in a small village,” says Debbie,
"Everyone helps each other out"
“Everyone knows each other and helps each other out.   I heard there was some trouble in APD.”
"They ignored health and safety guidelines"
Tony tells her that they ignored health and safety guidelines, and that it is a serious matter.   “Diane is usually very cautious,” comments Debbie, but Tony does not trust her husband.   “Diane was very kind to our Ricky when he was young,” she goes on,
"There's nothing anyone can do, is there?"
“There’s nothing anyone can do, is there?   You could have a word in someone’s ear.”
"Are you trying to bribe a council staff member?"
Tony leans forward;  “Are you trying to bribe a council staff member?   I feel a right fool, thinking you wanted to meet for a chat.”   She confirms that she did want a chat, and as he was so helpful about the hostel, she thought he might help APD as well.
"Forget this conversation ever took place!"
“You can forget that hostel – and that this conversation ever took place,” he warns her, “As a serving councillor, you could find yourself in a lot of trouble!”   He gets up and walks out of the pub.
"I'll kill that Dai Ashurst!"
Debbie furiously tells Mark that she is going to kill that Dai Ashurst.
"What if we lose this place?"
At APD, Diane worries, “What if we lose this place?” but Dai insists that it will not come to that, and it will be sorted.   “What if we can’t pay the fine?” she continues.
"I need my head read for listening to you!"
Then Debbie arrives, with Mark;  “I need my head read for listening to you!” she exclaims, “I was accused of bribing council staff – I asked if he could help sort out your mess.”  Dai was expecting her to be a little more subtle, as it is not as if she has never lied before.
Dai demands repayment of his money
Then he demands the return of his money, but Debbie maintains that he had better hope Tony does not take it any further, or she will tell him whose idea it was.
"You said you had nowhere else to go!"
Siôn emphasises to Vicky that he only let her stay because she had nowhere else to go;  “But that’s not what Mark said!”
"I don't know where we shall go, Siôn!"
Vicky claims that if he kicks them out, she does not know whether they will go, and he allows them another couple of days, but that is all, and he does not want anyone else knowing they are there.
"Don't use the front door – and no lights!"
“Don’t use the front door – and no lights!”
"There, I told you I could get round him"
“I told you so, didn’t I?   I shall just persuade Siôn to let us stay longer,” Vicky tells Mathew.   He is keen that they go back to her mother’s, but she is equally determined not to do so.   “I like it here, just the three of us,” she says, and he promises that one day they will have their own place, but at the moment they have no choice;
"We must move back to your mother's"
they must move back to her mother’s house for Nicky’s sake.
"I was so embarrassed!"
Back home at Maes-y-Deri, Debbie complains, “I was so embarrassed – Tony looked at me as if I was dirt under his foot!”   Mark cannot understand her flirting with a bloke, just to save Dai Ashurst’s skin.
"He was going to check out the hostels"
“If you must know, Tony was going to check out the hostels, to find out where Vicky and Nicky are,” she admits.
"Actually, they're at Hywel's house"
Mark announces that they are not at a hostel, but in Hywel’s house.   She shouts that he knew this all along,
That is where Debbie is heading
and rushes out, with Mark in hot pursuit.
"I should have told you about it earlier"
Chester goes to see Hannah at Bryntirion;  he brings her present, as he feels bad for not telling her sooner about that business with Mrs Llywelyn.   Hannah wants to forget it, as everyone has a past,
"It's so cute!"
then exclaims, “It’s so cute – thank you, Chest!”   He tells her that he got it at the Maenan shop, and she replies that she wondered how he could afford it.
"Did you think I stole it?"
“Did you think I stole it?” he demands, “Why do I bother?   You’re just like everybody else!”
"Only joking – right?"
She insists that she was only joking, and that he misunderstood, but he does not regard it as a very funny joke,
Chester does not seem amused
and walks out of the house.
Vicky is preparing to go home to her mother's . . .
Vicky is packing her things to return to her mother’s when there is a banging at the door;
. . . when she is confronted by an angry Debbie
it is Debbie and Mark.   “I was so worried I couldn’t sleep, and you were here all the time!” Debbie rages,
"You can come back if you apologise!"
“You can come back if you apologise for hiding here!”
"I'm not apologising until you do!"
Predictably, Vicky insists that her mother should apologise for accusing them of stealing – “I’m not apologising until you do!   I’m not living somewhere where people think we’re criminals!”   Debbie is disgusted and goes.
"Any idea where we're going now?"
“Great!” sighs Mathew, “Do you have any idea where we’re going now?”
