Kath buys vegetables from the shop
Kath is buying vegetables from Eileen’s shop, and says that the season is coming to an end, so she does not have much left at the allotment.
"Fresh from Penrhewl"
Eileen replies that these are as fresh as hers, and Eifion, standing nearby, assures her that they were picked at Penrhewl last night.
Apparently, Jim is working non-stop, as APD have a lot of jobs on,
"I hear that they're struggling at Penrhewl"
and Eifion has heard that they are struggling to cope,
"It's not as bad as that"
but Eileen says this is an exaggeration.
“I heard about Sioned,” comments Kath, and Eileen tells her that the plea hearing is next week, and that life is not easy at the moment.   She charges Kath £8.60 for the veg.
"I've been thinking about what you said"
At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor says that she has been thinking about what Elgan said last night;  “That business about DJ setting you up.
"Maybe you should go to the police"
“If you think that is what has happened, maybe you should go to the police.”
"I don't have any proof"
He points out that he has no proof, but she maintains it is important to share his concerns with them.
"Dani and Garry are coming to dinner"
Then he receives a text, and advises Gaynor that he has invited Dani and Garry to dinner tonight;
Gaynor is not happy about this
this does not go down well with Gaynor.   He insists that he will do everything – shopping, cooking, everything –
"I can repay them for all they did last week"
and that it is a chance to repay them for all they did last week.
"I'm just tidying up the shed"
At Maes-y-Deri, Kath is on the phone to Dani;  “I’m just tidying up the shed here, then I will be over to you.   Yes, I’ve got carrots – they still smell of soil.
"The best batch of potatoes you've had!"
“I’m not one to blow my own trumpet, but I think this is the best batch of potatoes you’ve had.
Kath makes some easy money
“What shall we say?   £25 cash?”   She looks very pleased about the transaction.
"I wonder where the bottle of pills could be"
At Bryntirion, Cadno asks DJ whether he has been sleeping, and he tells her he has been tossing and turning, wondering where the bottle of pills could be, wondering what Dr Elgan did with them.   He does not know when the funeral will be.
"We know who did it!"
“The police are still investigating, which is ridiculous, as we know who did it!” he goes on;  Cadno recalls that his Mam had such a cute smile,
"You could hear Linda's laugh miles away!"
and when she laughed, you could hear her miles away.
"We need your help at APD!"
Diane returns home in a flustered state, telling DJ that the bathroom for Cysgod y Glyn has arrived.   “Dai and Jim are in the middle of a job in Cwrtmynach, so can you go and deal with it?
DJ has no choice but to go there
“Your father needs help!”
"I want to have a chat with you"
As soon as DJ has gone, Diane wants a word with Cadno.
Dani has been out spending money again
In the Deri, Dani returns from shopping,
"We're going to Llwyncelyn"
and Garry tells her they are going to Llwyncelyn for a meal at 7:30pm.   She does not look very enthusiastic about this.
Kath complains about the hard work on the allotment
Then Kath arrives with vegetables;  “Planting and weeding is hard work!” she tells them, “Everything’s in there for you.”
Garry reckons £25 is a bit steep
Dani quite happily hands over £25, although Garry does look slightly disapproving,
"I'm off to Cardiff now"
and Kath informs them she is going off to Cardiff, to see a friend.
Dani definitely does not want to go
Dani pleads with Garry to cancel tonight, and then Eifion comes in and asks for a pint of lager.
Eifion examines the vegetables . . .
He examines the box of vegetables, which is still on the bar,
. . . which allegedly came from Kath's allotment
and Dani tells him they are fresh from Kath’s allotment.   “Really?” he comments,
"They look likwe the ones she bought in the shop"
“They look like the ones she bought earlier from Eileen’s shop!
At first, Dani thinks he is pulling her leg
“Honest – Cadno took organic veg over there last night.   I stood behind Kath in the shop, and that is exactly what she bought.
"Go and ask Eileen"
“If you don’t believe me, go and ask Eileen.”
"I lied to Dai and DJ yesterday"
Diane admits to Cadno, “I lied to Dai and DJ yesterday – I said I’d given a statement to the police, but I hadn’t.   I still haven’t.
"I feel responsible for what happened"
“I was afraid of being accused.   I feel in some way responsible for what happened to Linda.”
"That's nonsense"
Cadno replies that this is nonsense,
Diane is not reassured
but Diane is not so sure.   Cadno’s advice is, “Go to the police and give them a statement – I’m sure you’ll feel a lot better.
"You could never be responsible"
“You could never be responsible for her death, whatever you think has happened.”
Eileen recognises the vegetables
Dani marches angrily across the road, carrying the box of vegetables;  “Do you recognise these?” she asks Eileen, “Did you sell them to Kath this morning?
"She's made a right fool of me!"
“I’ve been such an idiot!   She’s made a right fool of me!   She’s been buying stuff here and selling it on to me – what a con!   I could strangle her!”
"They're meant to be fresh from the allotment!"
Jim is just approaching as Dani continues, “I’ve paid over the odds, because they’re meant to be fresh from the allotment.”
"Have you got Kath's mobile number?"
Eileen asks Jim if he has Kath’s mobile number, but Dani is confident that she will not answer as she is on her way to Cardiff.
Jim fears that trouble is coming
They explain to Jim about the scam, with Dani insisting that she will get every penny back.
Kath is tucking into 'doorstep' sandwiches
Kath is in the kitchen at Maes-y-Deri, eating extremely thick sandwiches, when Eileen and Jim come in through the back door,
Eileen confronts her
Eileen demanding why she is not answering her calls.   Kath protests that she has only just got back from Cardiff and is starving.
"Don't act the innocent, Kath!"
“I want an explanation – you’ve been making a profit out of me,” rages Eileen, “Don’t act the innocent, Kath – you know what you’ve been doing!   You don’t have an allotment – Jim’s told me.   You’ve been stealing from Owen Hughes, and now the season is over, you’ve been buying veg from the shop and selling them at a profit.”
"That's a fairy tale"
Kath continues to insist that she does not know what they are talking about, describing the allegations as a fairy tale.
"The game's up, Kath"
Jim informs her that the game is up, and Eileen maintains there is a lot more that has to be done;
Eileen has a list of demands
“Promising never to do it again, settling up with Owen Hughes, and giving a full refund to Dani and me.”
"It was Jim's idea in the first place!"
Kath tries to pass the blame to Jim, who she alleges put the idea into her head in the first place.   “Sharing the profits – I would never have thought of that.   Who was worried about handling stolen goods?”
Jim is worried
Jim looks rather sheepish.
Not a particularly cordial meal
The atmosphere around the dinner table at Llwyncelyn is rather strained;  “It’s pity that last week’s meal was ruined,” says Elgan, and Garry replies that they can come over again another day,
"You're very quiet, Dani"
but Dani appears uneasy.   Elgan asks if anything is wrong, as she is very quiet.
"Do you think I killed Linda?"
He says, “Look, let’s be open and honest with each other – it might clear the air.   I’ll ask you straight, do you think I killed Linda?   And, if so, why?”
"That's not up to me to decide"
Dani’s answer is that it is not up to her to decide whether he is guilty or not.
"What's your gut instinct?"
“But what do you think of me – your gut instinct?”
"I'm keeping an open mind"
She says that she is keeping an open mind.
“So you think I’m guilty,” he concludes, and then his phone rings.
Dani wishes she were not here
Dani looks increasingly uncomfortable.
"That was Owen Hughes' wife"
Elgan returns, saying that there is a bit of a crisis;  “That was Owen Hughes’ wife.   He’s out of hospital but not feeling well.”   Gaynor is disappointed that he is going to see him.
"You're not supposed to be working"
She points out that he is not supposed to be working and should phone one of the other doctors, but Elgan replies that Owen sounds quite ill and he had better go.
Eileen gives Jim his instructions
In the Deri, Eileen informs Jim that he will have to give back every penny, the certificate and the cup.   “What came over you?” she demands.
"But there will be a scandal!"
He protests that if he gives everything back, there will be a scandal.   “You and Kath Jones won by cheating!” she tells him,
"The prize should have gone to Owen Hughes"
and Eifion adds that the prize should have gone to Owen Hughes.
“Keeping quiet is the wisest course of action,” recommends Jim,
"I thought she had an allotment"
“I didn’t know at the time, did I?   I thought she had an allotment.”   Cadno enquires how long she has been selling stuff from the shop, and Eileen tells her it was only once, but that is according to Kath Jones.   “Anyway, it’s all over now,” says Jim.
Diane is uneasy
Diane is sitting in a darkened room when DJ returns, reporting that it is a shambles over at APD.   “I don’t think Ffion is going to be happy that Dad has left her toilet in the yard.”    When he receives no reply, he walks over to Diane, and asks if it is time to throw the sympathy cards away.
"Are you all right, Diane?"
“Are you all right, Diane?” he asks,
"I only gave the police my statement today"
and she admits that she only gave her statement to the police today, and that she is sorry.   She also did not tell them everything about what happened.
"I think I made your mother take the tablets"
“I think I made your mother take the tablets that day.
"I've played the conversation over in my head"
“I’ve played the conversation over in my head so many times.”   DJ wonders what she said to his mother,
"I said it wouldn't be fair on you"
and Diane goes on, “I told her not to put pressure on you, that you could go to prison, and that wouldn’t be fair on you.”
"It would have been my decision"
He argues that it would have been his decision;  Diane sobs, “I’m so sorry.   Because if you weren’t able to do it, she must have decided to do it herself.
"I shouldn't have left her that day"
“I shouldn’t have left her that day – I could have stopped her.”
DJ says that he knows his Mam, and she did not want to go on her own;
"The doctor killed her – it wasn't your fault"
“She promised me she wouldn’t go before saying goodbye.   The doctor killed her!   It wasn’t her – and it wasn’t your fault.”
He tries to comfort Diane
He hugs Diane.
Much later, Elgan returns
By the time Elgan arrives back at Llwyncelyn, their guests have gone;  “Sorry I took so long,” he says, “It was awkward to come away.   I was going to call an ambulance, but then he came round and wanted to talk.
"Having a doctor there was a comfort to them"
“Having a doctor there was a comfort to them both.   How often do you get time to talk to patients these days?   That’s all they want sometimes.”
Gaynor maintains she should come first
Gaynor is offended;  “So talking to them is more important than pleasing me, Garry and Dani tonight?   You were away an hour and a half – you didn’t have to go at all – you’ve been suspended.”   He explains that his patients are very important to him.
"I wonder if I really know you"
“You’ve ruined this evening!   I’m sorry to say this, but your behaviour is weird at times!” snarls Gaynor, “Sometimes I wonder whether I really know you.”
"You don't trust me?"
“In other words, you’re in the same camp as people like Dani,” he declares, “You don’t trust me – not 100%.   That’s what you meant.   I’m not a fool – I know you have your doubts about me.”
"I'm going to bed"
She insists that she does trust him, so he asks what is wrong, and she evasively replies that she is just tired after tonight, and that she is going to bed.
And off she goes
He watches as she goes upstairs.
