![]() |
| "I've been trying to get an appointment" |
Mark warns Kath, “It will be a long while before she forgives you – have you booked to see a doctor?” Kath makes the excuse that she has been trying all morning, but that is what it is like on a Monday;
![]() |
| "Has he gone yet?" |
she again pretends to dial the number, but as soon as Mark leaves, she abandons the call.
![]() |
| "You need to go out and enjoy yourself" |

![]() |
| "And what signal does that send to Sara?" |
but Jason asks what sort of signal that would send to Sara.
“Who are you to give me advice?” he demands, “You’re no Romeo, smelling of muck and silage!” Eifion points out that he is not the one who has been dumped, and that he is still with Cadno.
![]() |
| "How long, this time?" |
“For how long, this time?” Jason enquires, then apologises, as his gripe is not with Eifion; “Do you think Sara would go for a picnic in an open-top Land Rover?” he asks, and Eifion reminds him that this is Cwmderi, not the outback.
![]() |
| Nicky seems at home |
Vicky goes round to Sheryl’s new abode, and as Nicky runs around, she reports that everyone is keen to restart the parent and toddler group,
![]() |
| "You've got a fan club, Hywel!" |
“And it helps when there is a hunk in charge!” she adds, “You’ve got a fan club, Hywel! Mam’s agreed to let us have a meeting in the café this afternoon.”
![]() |
| "I've got too much work to do!" |
Hywel is still reluctant to get involved, as he is too busy.

![]() |
| . . . Jason asks DJ for a favour |
who asks DJ to secrete some red roses in the office, where Sara will find them. “DJ’s here to work, not to sort out the problems of a cheat!” Anita tell him, but DJ agrees to do it, if he gets the chance.

| No need to guess what she is looking for |
After looking in several cupboards,
![]() |
| Then she finds the (depleted) money tin |
Kath finds the tin with the money, but before she can do anything, has to leave it when she hears someone coming.
![]() |
| "No appointments available" |
She tells Mark she has been trying to make an appointment, but there are none available. “She wanted to know what was wrong, but I’m not going to tell her. Receptionists, they think they know it all!”
![]() |
| "It's a training day or something" |
When Debbie enquires further, Kath says, “They have a training day today, or something. I’ll phone again tomorrow – but I’ll probably be better by then.”
![]() |
| "You need urgent help, Mam" |
Mark insists that she needs help as soon as possible, but she repeats that she is feeling better and has only had one tablet today.
Debbie interrupts, “It’s only eleven – what will you be like by tonight?”
![]() |
| "There was about £100 in here!" |
then notices the tin, with the majority of its money missing. “There was about £100 in here – have you taken it? To buy more tablets?”
![]() |
| "No – it was Dol!" |
She says that Dol was so skint, she had taken it. “Don’t you blame Mam!” roars Debbie, “Junkies don’t know the truth from a lie!”
![]() |
| "Don't call Mam a junkie!" |
and Mark takes exception to her describing his mother like that.
At Awyr Iach, Sara suspects that Dol has ‘taken a sickie’,
![]() |
| "I was told that Dol has left Cwmderi" |
but DJ has been told by Mark that she has left the village. “Right, you’d better get a move on, finding someone to replace her!” orders Sara,

| Sara issues her orders |
“Contact the Job Centre and the temp agency – and in the meantime, you’ll have to do her work.”

![]() |
| Vicky is rather scathing about Sara |
In the café, Eifion asks Vicky if she is looking for a job. “I see on CnocCnoc that Dol has left Awyr Iach,” but Vicky is less than complimentary about the Awyr Iach manager.
![]() |
| "I'm enquiring about the job" |
Eifion dials Awyr Iach’s phone number, puts on a strange, high-pitched voice (possibly with something of a Scottish accent), and says “I’m enquiring about the job – what qualifications are required?”
![]() |
| DJ assumes that this is a bona fide caller . . . |
DJ replies that it is in the packing department, and training will be given.
![]() |
| . . . until the strange fixation about underwear |
The peculiar voice continues, “My last job was packing men’s pants – what sort of pants have you got on – boxers or briefs? Don’t be shy – if you give me the job, I’m sure we’ll have lots of fun – especially if you’re training me!”
DJ terminates the call, muttering about time-wasters.
![]() |
| One rose in the filing cabinet |
When Sara finds one rose, she goes round collecting the others;
![]() |

![]() |
| Mark is shocked at what Kath has been doing |

![]() |
| "I can't cope with that!" |
“If I go to the doctor and tell him I need tablets, they might work out it was me, they’ll call the cops and arrest me! I can’t cope with that!”
Debbie insists that Kath needs help now, before she loses control completely.
![]() |
| Nevertheless, she is escorted to the surgery |
Shortly afterwards, Kath is marched along the street, and is prevented from diverting into the Deri for some Dutch Courage; “If you go in there smelling of alcohol, they’ll think you have a different problem.”
![]() |
| They meet Eifion on the way |
They meet Eifion and explain that Kath has a touch of flu;
![]() |
| "I'm never ill!" |
“I’m never ill,” he replies. “I’m out in the fresh air all day, and never waste the doctor’s time.”
![]() |
| "Why don't I try fresh air instead of the doctor?" |
Kath suggests that it might be a good idea to try that instead of the doctor.
![]() |
| "It's the hypocrisy oath or something" |
Mark is resolute; “No, it’s the doctor’s, Mam! They won’t tell anyone – it’s the hypocrisy oath or something!” Debbie taunts her that she does not have the guts to go, so Kath strides off towards the surgery.
![]() |
| "We used to be a happy family!" |
Debbie comments to Mark that they were a happy family until she landed here; “She’s just a nuisance – you have to tell her to leave, for all our sakes!”
![]() |
| One mother just wants to offload her child |
At the meeting in the café, one mother wants to leave her child with them there and then, but Vicky points out, “It’s not a crèche, but a chance for parents to meet and children to play.”

| "We can discuss a fee" |
Debbie comes in and suggests that if they want to meet there, she is sure they can discuss a fee.
![]() |
| "Money is all you think about!" |
Sara accuses her, “All you want to do is get money out of people!”
![]() |
| "We need a chairperson" |
Hywel begins by saying that they need to appoint a chairperson, and Sara pipes up again, “Typical – you listen to him because he’s a man!”
![]() |
| Hywel finds that he has been elected |
Nevertheless, at Vicky’s instigation, Hywel is elected by a show of hands.
![]() |
| Eifion has a foolproof scheme |
As Jason sits with Anita in the Deri, Eifion comes in with two red balloons and a small package, assuring Jason that this cannot fail.

| "Any interest in Dol's job – it doesn't take any brains!" |
Then he enquires whether there has been any interest in Dol’s job.
![]() |
| "Awyr Iach could become a large business!" |
Anita points out that it is a chance to start at the bottom and work their way up, predicting that Awyr Iach could become a large business.

![]() |
| DJ has had enough of Eifion . . . |
DJ is disgusted and walks out, closely followed by Anita,
![]() |
| . . . a feeling which Anita shares |
who tells Eifion to grow up.
![]() |
| On the way back from the surgery |
Kath has been prescribed some tablets, advised to reduce the dose gradually and to see a support group. Mark suggests, “I think it would be a good idea for you to get your own place – there’s so much coming and going at the house.
![]() |
| "What – that flat up there?" |
“It would be nice for you to have some peace and quiet – the flat above the salon is empty.”
Kath’s reply is that the doctor said she needs people around her; “You’re trying to get rid of me, aren’t you? I can’t afford the rent anyway.”
![]() |
| "You had better keep these" |
She hands over the prescribed tablets, so that Mark can be sure she takes them when she is supposed to.

| "What do you expect with Vicky organising it?" |
“But what do you expect with Vicky organising it?”
Jason, who is lurking there, hands the package to Sara,
![]() |
| "A love spoon?" |
which she finds contains a love spoon; “Try to remember the good times,” pleads Jason, “Australia was like one long honeymoon.”
![]() |
| "You didn't snog another woman in Australia!" |

As the meeting breaks up, with Hywel still protesting,
![]() |
| "I only sold two cups of tea!" |
Debbie will not allow any more meetings there, as she only sold two cups of tea.
![]() |
| "Cadno thinks I made it" |
Jason takes the spoon back to Penrhewl, where Eifion hangs it back on the wall; “Cadno would have missed it anyway – she thinks I made it,” admits Eifion,
![]() |
| "Threaten to return to Australia!" |
but Jason warns that no good comes from deceiving women. Eifion then suggests different tactics – that he insists that he will not take any more nonsense, and threatens to return to Australia.
![]() |
| "She'd buy me the ticket!" |
“She’d buy me the ticket!” sighs Jason, “I might as well accept that it’s over!” Eifion maintains that if he were that feeble, DJ would have been in Penrhewl now, instead of him.
![]() |
| "If you want Sara, you must fight for her!" |
If Jason wants Sara, he must fight for her.
![]() |
| "Trying to forget your problems here?" |

| "Oh, it's your idea, is it?" |
“Oh, so it was your idea to get me out of here – very nice, Debbie!” Kath responds, “Don’t forget whose house this is!”
