3 January 2017

Kath is up in the night, taking tablets
Kath is up very early in the morning, taking tablets,
Postman Mark is on his way to work
and surprises Mark as he prepares to leave for the sorting office;  she says that she could not sleep, because of Nicky.   “I thought you’d be fast asleep – arguing is hard work!” Mark replies,
"That Debbie will be snoring until lunchtime!"
and his mother expects Debbie to be snoring until lunchtime.
Ffion has been constructing a new, improved version
Gethin finds Ffion has been up for much of the night, rewriting her application form;  “It was too similar to Gaynor’s –
"I really want this job!"
“and I really want this job!   There are only two questions left.”
"Come on – come to bed!"
Gethin persuades her to come to bed, and she insists that the alarm must be set for seven.
"Why do I have to go?"
Eifion is reluctantly leaving Penrhewl, and wondering why he has to go;  “I don’t want the boys to see you here first thing in the morning,” replies Cadno.
"I think I should move back in"
He predicts, “They would be glad to see us back together again – I hope you’re not having cold feet!”   She just does not want anything to go wrong.   “I think I should move back in, suggests Eifion, “I want to be with you – you want to be with me – there’s no point in waiting!”
Cadno is easily persuaded
Cadno agrees.
"How would you like to work full-time at APD?"
Dai and Diane call at number 9 on their way to work;  Dai asks Jason, “How would you like to work full-time at APD, and have a share, be a partner?”
"I've already got a job!"
Jason replies that he already has a job – Awyr Iach, but Dai insists that he is desperate.
“Cement bags getting too heavy in your old age?” enquires Jason, “When’s Jim coming back?”
Dai informs him that it is not going to happen.   Jason is adamant, “We’ve got a baby on the way – the last thing I want is the stress of buying into a new business.   How about DJ?”
"This is the chance of a lifetime!"
As Diane badgers him further,
"All right – I'll think about it"
Jason agrees to think about it, and then has to leave for Awyr Iach.
"Why didn't you wake me?   Look at the time!"
Arwen is already up when Ffion surfaces, complaining how late it is.
"Oh no!   The internet is down!"
The final straw is when she finds the internet is down;  “I’ve only got half an hour!   I hope the internet’s working in the café!” she cries,
"It's all your fault!"
“It’s all your fault!”
"This was our dream"
At Awyr Iach, Jason reminds Sara that their dream was to be working together, and this is where he wants to be – with her.
"Look what working together has done for Dai and Diane!"
She answers, “If ever there was an advert for couples not working together, it’s Dai and Diane – they always argue!”   He interprets this as Sara being fed up with working with him.
She maintains that they must have ambitions, but Jason tells her, “We’re about to become parents – how much more ambition do you need?”
"Bumps here will need the security"
She says that Bumps will need the security,
"Are you agreeing with Mam?"
but he comments, “Are you agreeing with Mam?   You must be ill!”   She suggests that they should at least look at the firm’s books.
Not a cordial reception for Cadno
DJ does not seem very welcoming when Cadno arrives at the door of Bryntirion;
"This is not how I wanted things to end"
“This is not how I wanted things to end – I’m sorry I hurt you,” she tells him.
"Better now than running off with him in a year or two"
He considers it better now than running off with Eifion in a year or two, but is not very keen to give her new relationship with Eifion his blessing,
"You're meant to be with him"
simply acknowledging that she is meant to be with him.
"How is Linda?"
When Cadno asks about his mother,
"Dai shouldn't have told you"
he is angry that Dai told her that Linda is dying.
Diane breaks up the little conversation
Diane returns home and Cadno leaves
Gethin pops into the café after taking Arwen to Cadi’s, and finds that Ffion has almost finished the application.
Notice the wallpaper on Ffion's laptop
Then Gaynor arrives, wanting to talk with her about Chester’s return to school, but receives a frosty reception;
She puts the finishing touches to her application
they will discuss the matter later.
Stacey is on the phone
Outside the front door of Maes-y-Deri, Mark is talking to Stacey on the phone;  “Are you sure?   Maybe she was just borrowing it, not stealing.
"She did what?  I'll have a word with her!""
“She did what?   She knows how much that means to you – I’m going to have a word with her!”
"Thanks for letting us go through the books"
In the Deri, Sara thanks Dai and Diane for letting them go through APD’s books,
"But the answer is no!"
but Jason gives the verdict, “The answer is no, I’m sorry.   The baby comes first!”
"You're so stubborn, Jason"
When Diane describes him as stubborn, Dai points out he takes after his mother.
"I don't just want to move into Penrhewl . . ."
Outside his house, Eifion reveals, “I don’t just want to move into Penrhewl – I’m going to rent out the house too
". . . I'm going to rent out this place"
“and Mathew will have to go!”
DJ watches from the chip shop
From his vantage point inside the chippy, DJ watches them kiss.
"Oi!   I want a word with you!"
Mark catches up with his mother and shouts, “Oi!   I want a word with you!   I’ve just been speaking to Stacey!”
Kath only pauses for a moment
She hesitates for a moment, then continues into the Deri.
"What are you doing here?"
Seeing Dai and Diane in there, she greets them, and Dai remarks, “Heavens!   What are you doing here?”   Mark follows her in and demands if Stacey was telling the truth;
"I'll talk to you later!"
Kath replies that he should buy the drinks and she will talk to him later.
"Ricky's been knocked sideways"
She thanks Diane for phoning and says that Ricky has been knocked sideways by his experience;  “Jim Probert won’t do that again!” she snarls.   Then she tells Diane that she has resigned from her job at the chemist’s in Birmingham,
"I can get more money on benefits"
as she gets more money on benefits.   “I’ve been on my own for ages, with a cupboard of a flat and hardly any friends” she laments.
"You've collected a lot of rubbish!"
As they load up the 4x4, Cadno comments, “You left Penrhewl with two bags – you’ve collected a lot of rubbish since.”
As DJ approaches,
"There was no point in waiting!"
Eifion tells him that there was no point in waiting, “And you walked out on the day of the wedding!”
"Mind you treat her right!"
DJ cautions him to treat her right.
"Forget those two!"
Dai comes out of the Deri and sees DJ forlornly standing there;  he advises, “Forget those two – I’ve got an offer for you that’s too good to refuse.
"How would you like to be a partner in APD?"
“How would you like to be a partner in APD?”   DJ points out that he does not know enough about building.   “This is exactly what you need!” Dai insists.
“The last thing I need is sympathy – you’re feeling guilty for telling Cadno about Mam,” grumbles DJ,
"Cwmderi is the last place I want to be!"
“I don’t want your help or to be tied to APD – Cwmderi is the last place I want to be!”
"You took her gold cross too!"
Mark corners Kath at Maes-y-Deri;  “Did you steal from Stacey – yes or no?   You took £200, but it’s not just the money – you took her gold cross too, the one Dad bought her when she passed her exams!”
"I was desperate, Mark"
Kath argues that she meant to pay it back, but she was desperate and had debts.
"Dad would be ashamed of you!"
Mark continues, “How are you going to get the cross back?   That was one of the few valuable items Dad bought for her – he would be ashamed of you!
"What's happened to you, Mam?"
“What’s happened to you, Mam?”
It transpires that she has lost everything
She confesses that she has lost everything – her job, boyfriend and home;
"You're not welcome here, after what you did to Stacey!"
“So you’re not here because you’re worried about Ricky,” exclaims Mark, “You just want somewhere to live!   You’re not welcome here, after what you did to Stacey – but I know, I can’t throw you out, as this is your house – how many times have I heard that?”
"I haven't got anywhere else to go!"
She wails that she has nowhere else to go, and needs his help to sort herself out.   He will not agree to anything until he has spoken to Debbie.
"How many more ways can I say no?"
Jason and Sara have been called to Bryntirion, where Jason reiterates his argument,
"What if money was not a problem?"
but Diane asks, “What if money was not a problem?   We’re willing to give you a share of APD as an early part of your inheritance.”
"What's the catch, then?"
Jason enquires what is the catch, and Dai informs him that he must come and work at APD immediately.   Sara urges him to accept this offer, but Jason wonders how DJ will feel when he gets no share;  Dai says he will deal with DJ.
Sara tries to persuade him
Sara is eager to seal the deal;  “Shake on it now!” she pleads, “You get your inheritance early – there’s nothing to discuss!”   Jason however sticks to his guns, and will announce his decision tomorrow.
"So long then, Mark"
Kath comes downstairs with her case and says, “So long then, Mark!”
"You don't have to go"
As she had calculated, he is quick to tell her she does not have to go, but will be required to behave.
"Keep it between us, and don't tell Debbie"
She wants him to keep the whole matter secret from Debbie, and he insists that she apologise properly to Stacey.
"You haven't packed at all!"
When he picks up the case he realises, “There’s nothing in it – you haven’t packed!”   As he takes it back upstairs, his mother looks pleased with herself.
Gaynor reads through the e-mail . . .
Gaynor reads out an e-mail she is about to send to the school staff, including the words,
. . . about Chester's return to school
“Be aware that his behaviour may be more challenging than before.”
Arwen is growing up fast
Gethin arrives home and finds Ffion checking her e-mails, while Arwen eats her baked beans;
"It's a bit early to hear, isn't it?"
“It’s a bit early to hear whether you have an interview,” he comments.
"I don't believe it!"
Then she exclaims, “I don’t believe it!”   Gethin assumes she has been rejected;
"I must phone Gaynor!"
“No – Gaynor has sent an e-mail about Chester to all the parents!   I must tell her to recall it!”
"This could put you one step ahead!"
Gethin suggests this may be Ffion’s opportunity;  “This could put you one step ahead of her – if you’d made the same mistake, would she help you?”   Ffion consider this is taking advantage,
"When everyone reads this . . ."
but as he looks at the e-mail in question, he adds, “When everyone reads this, you’ll be the new head, not Gaynor!”
The idea seems to be growing on Ffion
Ffion is slowly warming to the idea.
