5 January 2017

Gaynor is expecting the worst
Gaynor appears fraught as she walks along the street;  Hywel says that he heard about the e-mail, and she snaps, “Everyone has heard about that!”
"Fancy a drink tonight?"
Ed and Tyler arrive back from their early morning run, and agree to meet for a pint this evening.
Kelly, just back from Bali, is on the case
Kelly, just back from her holiday, is watching, and asks Tyler,
Tyler wonders what she has against Ed
“How long have you been best mates?   I’d choose my company more carefully if I were you!”
Gaynor continues her pessimistic prognostications
In the café, Gaynor is gloomily prophesying, “This is the end of my career – and it came at the worst possible time.   Britt has lodged a complaint, just as they compile the shortlist for the new Head’s post!”
"You've got a good reputation"
Hywel tries to convince her that her experience and good reputation are in her favour, but she groans, “This is a black mark against me – this is my life!
Gaynor anticipates disgrace
If I can’t get the job, what else if there for me in Cwmderi?   Just disgrace and an empty house!”
Anita welcomes Kelly back from Bali;
"Amanda was hell!"
she is told, “Bali was paradise – but Amanda was hell!”
"What's that bruise, Auntie Anita?"
Kelly notices the bruise on Anita’s forehead, which she explains was caused when she tripped on her dressing gown, hitting her head on a cupboard.
“Let’s hope that Kevin has been looking after you,” Kelly replies,
"Oh, he's not here any more"
but is then informed that he is no longer there, having been to Nansi’s over Christmas, and has decided to stay there.
Kelly's journalistic nose is twitching . . .
“Hang on,” Kelly exclaims, “The reason he was here was because Nansi didn’t want to know!”   Anita lies that once his mother saw him, she forgave him.
. . . and she delves further into the case
Sceptically, Kelly remarks, “Just like that?   Right, so did you have this ‘accident’ before or after he went to Nansi’s?”
"Kevin did not do this!"
Anita assures her that Kevin did not do this.
"You need a shower – you stink!
Ed is eating his breakfast when Sioned informs him, “You need a shower – you stink!”
"Can I go out tonight, please?"
He asks if he is allowed to go out for a couple of hours tonight;
"I don't fancy going out"
“I don’t fancy going out tonight,” she tells him, but he continues that he wants to go on his own, just to the Deri, where he is meeting Tyler for a couple of pints.
Sioned accused him of fancying Tyler
“You’ve been following him around like a shadow just recently,” she says, and he points out that he got to know Tyler while doing the panto, and that he is a nice bloke.   “Sorry, I want your help to take down the decorations,” she instructs him, and he corrects her that it should be done tomorrow night.
"I'll be fine here on my own!"
Sioned grumbles, “Go if you want – I’m sure I’ll be fine here on my own!   Now go and have a shower before I pass out!”
"Right, I'm going to phone Nansi"
Kelly announces, “I want Nansi’s phone number, so I can talk to Kevin and ask him how he is settling in,” but Anita insists that they should leave him alone.   “A couple of weeks ago you were begging me to make more effort – now you don’t want me to talk to him!   A journalist would say there’s a story there,” Kelly suggests.
"Did he slap you and then run away?"
As they sit down for their croissants, Kelly asks, “Did he hit you?   Did he slap you and then run away to North Wales?”
"No – it was Nansi!"
Furious, Anita answers, “For the last time, he didn’t touch me!   It was Nansi!   When I arrived back here, she was here with Kevin, helping herself to my things.”
"So he was part of the plan"
Kelly can see that it was obviously planned, stealing from her while she was away, and that Kevin was part of the plan.
"No – Kevin called the ambulance"
Anita however is at great pains to point out that Kevin called the ambulance for her.   “Yes – he didn’t want you to call the cops.   You deserve justice!” squeals Kelly, grabbing the phone, “They could come back and do the same again!”
"You must not say a word to anyone!"
Anita is quite adamant that she must not phone or say a word to anyone.
Sheryl has grand redecorating ideas . . .
In the salon flat, Sheryl decides they should redecorate the whole place from top to bottom;  “Now the adoption is going ahead,
. . . while Esther plays obliviously
I want Esther to have a proper room!”   Hywel reminds her that Esther already has a room, which they recently decorated,
"I want something more special"
but Sheryl goes on, “I want her to have something even more special!”
"Kevin has gone to stay with Nansi"
Then Anita comes and interrupts their bickering to announce, “I wanted to let you know that Kevin has gone to stay with Nansi in Anglesey,” which Hywel thinks is great news, but Sheryl is not so sure.
Look – she managed the decorations all by herself
Sioned, who has already successfully taken down the decorations on her own, demands what time Ed will be going out;  the answer is eight o’clock.   He goes off to work as soon as Kelly arrives to see Sioned, who paints a tragic picture of the Christmas she has endured.
Sioned describes her grim Christmas
“It was just him and me, stuck here for days.   It was hard work – he has gained confidence since doing the panto,
"I have to watch everything I say or do"
so I’ve had to watch everything I say or do.   I’m so happy to see you, Kel!
"What I need is a night out!"
Do you know what would really cheer me up?   If we had a night out – just a couple of drinks.
"Tonight – please, Kelly!"
How about tonight – it would be a chance for me to get out of here?”
Ffion skilfully hides her disappointment
At school, Gaynor tells Ffion that she has had some good news, that the Education Authority will not be having an investigation;  they accept that it was an honest mistake.   Ffion tries to conceal her disappointment,
"And I've got an interview!"
as Gaynor continues, “And I’ve got an interview for the Head’s job!   My reputation counts for something, it seems!”
"Nice to see Gaynor smiling!"
Tyler remarks to Ffion that it is nice to see Gaynor smiling;  he is told, “She has an interview next week –
"She won't be smiling for long"
but I don’t think she’ll be smiling for long – I’ve got one too, but I’m in no rush to tell her!”
"You'll both be sitting outside the interview room"
Tyler points out that next week they will both be sitting outside the same interview room,
Not a thrilling prospect
and Ffion does not relish that idea.
"Mam was acting like a teenager!"
Kelly sees Hywel by the cashpoint and tells him, “The hotel by the beach was lush – shame I can’t say the same about Mam – she was out all night and sleeping all day – just like a teenager!”
“I expect the good news when you got home cheered you up,” replies Hywel, “Kevin has packed his bags and gone for good.   Although she won’t admit it, Sheryl hated having him around.
"I thought they hated each other"
But why move in with Nansi?   I thought they hated each other.”   Kelly excuses herself, muttering that she is suffering from jetlag.
Ed irons his shirt
Sioned comes into the flat to find Ed ironing his shirt;  “I’m starting to think you’re ill – or in love,” she tells him,
"You never make this effort when you go out with me"
“You never make this effort when you go out with me.   People will start to talk about you and Tyler!”
Ed protests that he is a friend who happens to be gay, but she continues to press her point,
"You're a bit obsessed!"
“You’re a bit obsessed, Ed – you talk to him all the time, run with him, now meeting him for a drink!   You’ve only known him five minutes – Iolo must be worried, too.
"I don't want my husband named in a divorce!"
The last thing I want is for my husband to be named in a divorce – especially a gay divorce!”
"Just had the third degree from Hywel . . ."
Back at number 10, Kelly tells Anita, “I’ve just had the third degree from Hywel about Kevin
". . . but your dirty secret's safe with me"
– but don’t worry, your dirty secret’s safe with me.
"If I see his ugly mug again!"
Not being honest with people is not easy, and if I see his ugly mug again, I’ll make sure he is in prison until he’s a pensioner!”
Gaynor again boasts of her interview
Gaynor comes into the Deri and offers to buy Hywel and Sheryl a drink;  “I didn’t need to worry, like you said this morning.   There won’t be a hearing – and I’ve got an interview!”
"You didn't tell me you saw her!"
Sheryl moans, “You didn’t tell me you had seen her this morning!”   Hywel informs her he had been on the way to APD for some paint samples,
Sheryl is obviously not a fan of APD
but she is unimpressed;  “Their stuff is as old as the Ark!”
"I'm not going to tell her in a pub!"
Tyler suggests that Ffion should tell Gaynor she also has an interview, but as soon as Gaynor approaches, Ffion leaves for home.
Ed arrives for his quiet drink with Tyler
Then Ed arrives.
"Is it because I had a chat with Gaynor?"
Hywel presumes that Sheryl is sulking because he had a chat with Gaynor, but she snarls, “I don’t care about her!
"All I can think about is Kevin!"
I cant believe you don’t understand what is the matter – all I can think about is Kevin!”   When Hywel maintains they should be glad he has gone,
"He's free to do the same again"
she wails, “So that he’s free to do the same thing again?   At least we knew where he was!   How long is he going to be in Anglesey?
"I'm not just worried for myself"
I’m not just worried for myself, but for anyone unfortunate enough to meet him!”
"I can beat you any time, mate!"
As Tyler and Ed joke about Ed’s advanced age and his ability to keep up on a run,
Then Sioned materialises by the bar
Sioned and Kelly arrive, much to Ed’s annoyance;
"Sioned is such hard work!"
“I don’t believe this!   Sioned is such hard work – always wanting attention!”
"We don't have to stay here, Sioned"
Kelly suggests they could have a bottle of wine at home, but Sioned wants to stay.
Kevin phones Anita . . .
Anita receives a phone call from Kevin, asking how she is;  “Yes, I’m fine,” she tells him,
. . . who, for some reason, wants to see him
“I want to arrange a meeting – tomorrow if possible.”
Not a lot of convivial chatter going on here
There is a strained silence round the table in the Deri;
"It's your round, Ed!"
Sioned tells Ed it is his round next, but he wants to go home.   Kelly urges him not to be so stingy, so he goes to the bar, followed by Sioned.
"What's this all about, Kelly?"
Tyler demands that Kelly tell him what is going on;  “You obviously have a problem with Ed.   Why else would would you say what you did this morning?”
"I'm fed up with keeping secrets!"
“Right – I’ll tell you, because I’m fed up with keeping secrets,” she whispers,
Tyler is sworn to secrecy (and how long will that last?)
“Promise you won’t tell anyone – Ed is mistreating Sioned.   You saw how he was when we came in –
"I've seen the bruises with my own eyes!"
I’ve seen the bruises with my own eyes!”
They turn to look at the wife-beating monster
They both turn and look at Ed.
