29 December 2017 (1st)

A bit of half-hearted vacuuming
Dani is vacuuming, unenthusiastically;
"I'm supposed to be doing this!"
Garry tells her she is supposed to be leaving it to him, but she insists she wants to keep busy.   He assures her that he has taken all the lights down,
"You're safe – and so is the baby"
so she is safe – and so is the baby.   “What you need is some sleep – I’m taking the little one down to the bar while you’re sleeping.”
"No, Garry!"
She objects to this, but he points out this will be until they open, and he will be the only one there, as Mathew has the day off.
"Then we'll go through more names"
“After that, we’ll have a coffee together and go through more names.   He picks up the carrycot,
"We're going on an adventure"
and tells the baby, “We’re going on an adventure – you’re coming to the bar with Dadi.   See, she likes that – go and have a nap while you have the chance.”
Mathew gets his money back
Outside Cwm Delhi, Mathew asks for a refund from Colin, and he is only too ready to hand back the money.   He also insists that Tyler should be refunded, as he wants to send all the lights back.
"We're taking about rugby"
When Britt approaches, he says they are talking about rugby matches.
Last night's treatment has damaged the door of number 9
They see Jason, struggling with his key in the front door, and becoming very frustrated;
"Do you want me to try it?"
Colin walks forward, and offers to try it.
Everything is blackened and smells of smoke
They go inside, where the smell of smoke still lingers,
"I've brought a few clean clothes"
and Colin tries to give Jason a few clean clothes, as it is the least he can do.
“I don’t blame you, OK?” says Jason, “So please don’t lose any sleep over it.”   Colin wonders where Jason is going to start, putting the house back to rights.
"I'm going to sue Gwyneth!"
Jason’s mind is made up, “I know exactly where I’m going to start – I’m going to find the insurance documents, so that I can sue Gwyneth.   She owns this house –
"It's her responsibility!"
“she’s the landlord – it’s her responsibility to make sure the fire alarm works.   Did anyone hear a fire alarm?   No, because it wasn’t working!”
"Oh, hello"
Kelly opens the door of number 10, to Ed;
"How's Macs 'the hero' White?"
“How’s Macs ‘the hero’ White?” she asks, and he tells her that Macs is under orders to rest for a while.
"About Christmas night . . ."
“About Christmas night – I want to say I’m glad . . .” he begins,
"I get all sentimental at Christmas!"
but Kelly just wants to forget about it, as she gets really mushy and sentimental on Christmas Day.
"Sorry I snogged you without warning!"
She maintains that music and alcohol is a really bad mix for her, and she is extremely sorry that she snogged him like that, without any warning.   “When I’m on an emotional rollercoaster, I do and say stupid things.”
"OK, I've got the message"
He replies that he has got the message,
Just as things looked likely to happen . . .
and they look into each other’s eyes for a few seconds.   “Well, I’d better do my Cinderella chores,” she says, but he actually wants to ask a favour of her – he wants some advice.
"New Year – new Ed!"
“New Year – new Ed!” he explains,
"Nothing wrong with the old one"
but she points out that there is nothing wrong with the old Ed.   “I want to better myself – find a course or something that can lead to a new job –
"You know more about this than me"
“you know more about this stuff than me.”   She invites him to stay for a coffee.
The money tin is empty
Britt wants to give a fiver to Aaron, but has found the tin empty;
Colin is clutching a smoke alarm
“The fact is,” Colin begins, “Everyone wanted a refund for the lights, as they didn’t trust them.”   Britt points out that the fire officer said it was an accident, but Colin replies that he prefers to sleep with a clear conscience.
"You can't afford a clear conscience!"
“You can’t afford a clear conscience!” she informs him,
"Ifan could have died"
but he reminds her that if it was not for Macs, Ifan could have died.   She still protests that it was an accident, and it is not likely to happen again.
"I'm giving everyone a refund"
He insists that he is giving everyone a refund and sending back the lights.
Garry is supervising the baby . . .
In the Deri, Garry is watching over the baby
. . . when Mathew comes in
when Mathew walks in, having been contacted by Garry.   He is told he deserves his day off;
"A gift to show there are no hard feelings"
Garry has bought Vicky and Mathew a gift for their new home, to show there is no bad feeling after the other night.   “Dani and I like to have photos around – I hope it shows our appreciation for all that you’ve done for us.”
"Can you watch her for a couple of minutes?"
Then he hears a bleeping from the oven in the kitchen;  “Can you watch her for a couple of minutes?” he asks,
Mathew gets a quick photo . . .
and Mathew takes the opportunity to take a photo of the baby.
. . . and picks her up when she cries . . .
She is beginning to cry, so Mathew asks if she wants a cwtch and picks her up.
. . . which greatly displeases Dani
Inevitably, this is the moment when Dani comes into view, and demands what he is doing;  “Take your dirty hands off my daughter!” she shouts, and when Garry comes back in,
"You have no right to touch her!"
she adds, “You have no right to touch her!   You said nobody would be here!”
Dani scowls at Mathew
and takes the baby back upstairs.
"Trouble in paradise?"
Gethin has just come in and enquires, “Trouble in paradise?”   Garry asks if he will have a word with his sister,
"I have no idea what's going on!"
then tells Mathew that he has no idea of what is going on.
"You have to sort this out!"
Upstairs, Gethin tells Dani that she has to sort this out;  “And how am I supposed to do that?   Mathew’s hanging around every day,” she wails,
"He's always sniffing around the baby"
“I cannot get away from him, and he’s always sniffing around the baby.”   Gethin points out that he thinks he is the father, but she replies, “What are the chances?   We only slept together once!”
Gethin points out she needs evidence
He reminds her that once is enough;  “The problem you’ve got is that Mathew thinks he’s the father – until he has evidence that says otherwise, he won’t go away.
"Just take a DNA test, Dan"
“Just take a DNA test, Dan, so you both know where you stand.”
Ed's CV is on the screen
Kelly has been working on Ed’s CV;  she points out, “In them days, A-levels like that it really meant something –
"If it wasn't for Gemma"
“if it wasn’t for Gemma, you could have done what you wanted.”   He defensively replies that it was not Gemma’s fault, and that life sometimes works like that.   She agrees that he was dealt a bad hand of cards.
"You could do another degree"
“You could do another degree and be a teacher, like Tyler,” she suggests, but when he protests that he is too old, she prefers to call it, “Not quite middle-aged.”
"You've always thought the best of me"
“You’ve always thought the best of me, Kel,” he says,
Again she chickens out
but she changes the subject and tells him she has things to do and people to see.
"Sorry I've taken up so much time"
He apologises for taking up so much of her time, and thanks her for her help.
As he heads for the door, she says, “Ed, just do something, yeah?”
She returns to the laptop . . .
then returns to the laptop
. . . and a volunteering website
and looks at a volunteering site.
"I thought you were going to bottle-feed"
Gethin comments that he thought Dani was going to bottle-feed the baby;  “I was, but I changed my mind –
"I'm allowed to change my mind"
“I’m allowed to, aren’t I?   It’s a chance to bond.”   He is glad that something is going right for her, and stresses that this is supposed to be a happy time in her life.
"You shouldn't be worrying like this"
She should be settling down with Garry, choosing a name, not worrying like this.   If she did the test, she would know.
"What if Mathew is the father?"
“What if Mathew is the father?” she asks, and he answers that she will have to do her best with the little one.
"Is it safe to come in?"
Garry wonders if it is safe to come in, and says he is sorry;
"Yes, I did promise the bar would be empty"
he had promised that the bar would be empty,
"I don't want to upset you"
and does not want to upset her, as she has been through enough.
"Dan, you've got to do something"
“Dan, you’ve got to do something – this is not fair on anyone,” Gethin tells her,
"Someone has to make it clear to Mathew"
but she replies that as far as she is concerned, Garry is the father, and someone has to make it clear to Mathew that is the way it is going to be.
Gethin points out that he is not going to accept that;
"Someone has to scare him!"
“Well, someone has to scare him, and force him to understand that he doesn’t have any choice!” she tells him.
It looks as if Gethin's objections will be overruled
Gethin has no intention of threatening Mathew, but she pleads with him, “You said yourself I could lose everything that.”
Kelly is planning to run away
Kelly is composing an e-mail to info@overseasvolunteeropportunities.org, which reads, “I want to talk to someone about working with people who need help.   I’m willing to move abroad to help people.   Can I phone for a chat?”   She sends the e-mail, then wonders if she has done the right thing.
"Sorry I had a go at you"
In the Deri, Britt apologises for having a go at Colin, but he points out that it does not change the fact that they are skint.   “No – MasterMind Monk has had a bright idea.   You can take the whole lot back to the cash-and-carry for a refund.   You’ve still got the receipt, haven’t you?”
"That stuff came from Dave"
He admits that there is no receipt, and that the stuff came from Dave,
"Not Dodgy Dave?   Oh, Colin!"
otherwise known as ‘Dodgy Dave’, who said that it was legit.   “When are you going to learn?” she chides him, and he says he has learned this time;
"I put Jason's life – and his little boy's life – in danger!
he has ruined a friends house, put his life – and his little boy’s life – in danger, and on top of that, his best friend is on his deathbed in hospital.
“What with everything, it’s not a very Merry Christmas, is it?   I might go to visit Mark later – try and lift his spirits a little bit,
He intends to cheer up Mark
“crack a couple of jokes, and keep him company.”
"I love you – and your dodgy conscience!"
Britt says that she loves him, and his dodgy conscience.
"Is there any need to get professional help for Dani?"
Garry asks Gethin if he found out the cause of the problem, and whether there is any need to get professional help for Dani,
"Just give her a bit of time"
but is told that she just needs a bit of time.   Gethin is on his way to see someone.
"You must have told Gwyneth about the fire"
Jason arrives and informs Garry, “Gwyneth’s not answering her phone – it’s convenient, isn’t it?   You must have told her about the fire.”
"She's very angry with you"
Garry confirms that he has, and that she is very angry with Jason, advising that he leave her alone until she gets back from her holiday.
“It’s her fault it burned down!” Jason rages, “It’s the landlord’s responsibility to fit a smoke alarm!”
"But it's the tenant's responsibility to maintain it"
Garry adds that it is the tenant’s responsibility to maintain it, and asks when he last tested the alarm.   “We almost lost everything, Garry,” Jason goes on, but Garry points out that Ifan is safe, and that is what matters.
He looks as if he will need more than a whisky
He is given a whisky on the house.
Mathew is hanging a mirror
Mathew is putting up a mirror in the flat when he is surprised by the arrival of Gethin;
"I'll do whatever it takes!"
“I don’t want to frighten you, but I’ll do whatever it takes to keep my little sister happy,” he announces, “You understand that, don’t you?
"Stay away from Dani!"
“Come on, you’re not stupid – you know what I’m asking of you – stay away from Dani!”
"I don't know what you're talking about"
Mathew maintains that he has no idea what Gethin is talking about;
"Do you think I don't know what happened?"
“Do you think I don’t know what happened between you and Dani?   I know you’ve got history!”
"I have a right to know where I stand"
Mathew replies, “You must understand I have a right to know where I stand.”
"Yes, on very dangerous ground!"
Gethin points out that it is on very dangerous ground, and Dani has made it perfectly clear who the baby’s father is.
"The last thing you want is to have an accident!"
He goes on, “It’s about time you respected Dani’s wishes, because the last thing you want is to have an accident.”   Mathew demands if he is being threatened;  Gethin continues, “As I said, I will do anything to make sure Dani’s happy.
Mathew is now rather fearful
“I’m glad we understand each other – I’ll let myself out.”
