Flickering lights – Fire Hazard 1
In the Deri flat, the Christmas lights are flickering erratically
Burnt toast – Fire Hazard 2
and the toast pops up in toaster, looking rather well done.   Dani calls for Garry,
Garry is on baby duty
and he comes in carrying the baby;  “I don’t think she’s too impressed with my skills,” he says, then addresses the baby, “You’re the spit of your mother.”
"Britt thinks every baby looks like a Monk . . ."
He warns Dani not to get upset when Britt starts spouting;  “She thinks every baby looks like a Monk,
". . . even the ones that aren't related!"
“even the ones that aren’t related!”
"I'm not in the mood for visitors"
Up to this point, Dani has said nothing, but when she hears that Britt is coming over to do some housework, she insists she is not in the mood for visitors.   “I said no – I don’t want people in here carrying germs.
"But she's my sister!"
“She’s your sister, so she will understand.   I’m not ready to see anyone, not at the moment.”
"Those lights are getting on my wick!"
Then she takes the baby for a nap, and orders Garry, “Sort out those blinking fairy lights!   They’re getting on my wick.”
Vicky and Mathew are laden with boxes
In the café, Vicky and Mathew are moving in their stuff;
"Anyone would think you're moving in!"
Jason comments, “Anyone would think you’re moving in, to see all those boxes,” and Vicky enlightens him that they are, and she cannot wait to get organised.
They will deal with Nicky's room first
Mathew tells him they will get Nicky’s room sorted first, so he can settle in;  then they can start thinking about their room.
"I'm going to make you happier than you've ever been before"
He assures Vicky, “I’m going to make you happier than you’ve  ever have been before.”
Watch out, or you'll have one of these!"
Jason cautions them, “Watch out, you’ll have one of these before you turn round!” pointing to Ifan.   Vicky does not consider they are ready to have a baby yet;
Ifan starts protesting
Ifan then starts crying, and Sara moans that Jason must get rid of his cold.
"Another cast member from 'The Walking Dead'!"
As they leave, they meet Garry coming in, and Jason describes him as, “Another cast member from ‘The Walking Dead’ – does living without sleep suit you?”
Garry wants a meal prepared for Dani
Garry has come in to ask Mathew for a favour;  “Dani will need something to eat in an hour, and I need to go out.
"After the shenanigans on Christmas Day"
After the shenanigans on Christmas Day, I think you could spare me a couple of hours.   And don’t let anyone else upstairs, as Dani doesn’t want to see anyone!”
"I'll have sorted out the room by the time you get back!"
Vicky says that she will have sorted out Nicky’s room by the time he comes back, but he protests that he could not refuse, and will make it up to her.
"Chocolate Brazil nuts"
Ffion passes the chippy, wearing her running gear, and Macs comments, “Started a New Year’s resolution already?”   She says she has to do something after eating chocolate Brazil nuts, and she does not even like them.
"My resolution is to try and not let people down"
“My resolution is to try and not let people down,” he informs her, “It’s a shame other people can’t do the same.”
"It wasn't a good day for Arwen"
“About yesterday – it wasn’t a good day for Arwen,” she replies,
"Can I come up and see her now?"
and he says he can come up now to see her.   She replies that Arwen is with Elinor, but Macs insists Ffion does not have to pay someone to look after Arwen.
“She spends a lot of time with Elinor – she loves her,” Ffion points out.   Macs tells her that it is tough not seeing his daughter,
Ffion ends the conversation
but she turns and walks away.
"There's always more rubbish than presents"
Garry looks exhausted as Britt is cleaning up the chip shop flat, and wonders why there is always more rubbish than presents.
"Is being a Daddy again a lot of work?"
“Is being a Daddy again a lot of work?” she asks, and he recalls being glad that he was not there for the birth of Gwern.
"You're lucky to have Auntie Britt"
“And that’s why you’re lucky to have Auntie Britt to shoulder the burden,” she insists,
"Dani does not want visitors"
but Garry breaks the news that Dani does not want any visitors at the moment.
"I'm not a visitor!"
“I’m not a visitor – I’m the baby’s aunt!” protests Britt, “More than that, I hope I’ll be her godmother too!”
He tells her that they have not even thought of a name yet,
"I don't know what Dani wants"
and he does not know if things are all right, as he has no idea what Dani wants.   “I was hoping that the baby would bring us closer – I know all about the baby blues stuff, but it is as if something is different.”
"She needs 100% support"
Britt’s advice is that he is worrying too much, and should give Dani time;  “What Dani needs now is support – your 100% support.
"Make damn sure she gets what she wants!"
“So whatever Dani says she wants, you make damn sure she gets it!    Let her settle down for a while – I’m sure it will get better soon.”
Dani is looking for inspiration
Dani checks on the baby, then settles down with her book of babies names;  Mathew arrives.   “You promised you would stay away!” she complains,
"I was ordered by the boss"
but he says that he does not want to be here.   He was ordered by the boss to cook a meal for her.    “Well, this boss is sending you away!” she replies.
He wonders how he will explain this to Garry, and tells her to carry on what she was doing, and she will not know that he is there.   After a moment’s thought,
"I fancy roast beef with all the trimmings!"
she decides, “I fancy roast beef with all the trimmings – you can cook it in the kitchen downstairs.”   He follows her instructions.
Ffion prepares a meal
Ffion turns on the gas to heat a saucepan, and stirs its contents;
Fire Hazard 3
a tea towel is put down rather near the hob
Ifan is taken to bed by his father . . .
In Ifan’s bedroom,
. . . and looks quite contented
Jason puts him in his cot and turns on the mobile,
Beyond the mobile, more lights – Fire Hazard 4
which rotates above him.   “I don’t want to give you this nasty cold.”
Vicky lights candles . . .
In their newly acquired flat, Vicky lights some candles, then continues with the unpacking.
. . . one of them perilously near a box lid . . .
It appears that one of the cardboard boxes
. . . Fire Hazard 5
is in rather close proximity to one of the candles.
Jason has trouble getting off to sleep
Jason tries to sleep on the sofa, while the lights on the Christmas tree are flashing erratically, and making crackling noises.
This is the one which actually bursts into flames
It soon results in flames enveloping the Christmas tree.
Dani has enjoyed her meal
Dani enjoys her specially-cooked meal,
Mathew looks at the baby
and Mathew looks across at the baby;  “You’re wasted behind the bar,” she tells him,
"I hope you sorted Vicky out"
“I hope you sorted out Vicky, after her antics on Christmas Day.”   He points out that it was not her fault.
"Thank you for not saying anything"
“Listen, thank you for not saying anything – you had the ideal opportunity to tell Garry.”
He admits that he almost died of shame, and that perhaps it was the wake-up call he needed.
He maintains that everything will change now . . .
“I’ve been so obsessed with you, with the baby, it’s not fair on Vicky.   That’s all going to change now, because I love her,
. . .he and Vicky are moving into the café flat
“and I’ve got some news – we’re moving in together, today – the flat above the café.   So, it’s a new start for the two – well the three – of us, and I can’t wait.”
Dani is very pleased for them, and says that Vicky is a very lucky girl;
"Especially of she gets a meal like that every night!"
“Especially if she gets a meal like that every night!”   She goes to pick up her baby.
"You shouldn't leave candles burning!"
Liam goes up to the café flat, and quickly blows out the offending candle, then shouts for Vicky.   “You shouldn’t leave candles burning!   What if a fire started?”   She describes him as dramatic,
He shows her what easily might have happened
until she sees the box, which the candle has already started to char.
"I want to make matters right between me and Mathew"
She protests that she only wanted to make matters right between her and Mathew;  “A lot of men would dump a partner for making a scene!   But he loves me.”   Liam cannot help it if he does not like the bloke.   “I’m happy for the first time in years!” she protests.
“I can still smell smoke!” Liam announces,
"It must be the moussaka!"
and Vicky comes to the conclusion that it must be her mother’s moussaka in the oven downstairs.
"No smell of burning in here"
They quickly investigate, but find that is not the source of the smell.
Macs can smell it, too
They rush outside, and Macs agrees that he too can smell smoke;
The fire is located in number 9
they see that a fire is burning upstairs in number 9.   Liam calls for the Fire Brigade, but then they hear a baby’s cries.
"We can't wait for the fire brigade!"
“Ifan’s up there!   We can’t wait for the Fire Brigade to arrive!” decides Macs.
As he and Liam batter on the door,
"There are people inside – and a baby!"
Vicky tells the operator that people are inside, and a baby.
They burst in through the door
The two of them make a concerted effort, and smash down the door.
Liam rescues Jason . . .
Liam goes to help Jason to get outside, and Macs heads upstairs.
. . . while Macs looks for Ifan
With a scarf covering his face, Macs reaches the bedroom,
The fire has taken hold in the bedroom . . .
where the fire is blazing fiercely,
. . . but Macs manages to rescue the baby
and lifts baby Ifan from his cot.
Jason has to be restrained from going back inside
Outside, Jason is being restrained
Firefighters have arrived . . .
as the fire engine arrives in the village,
. . . and there is also an ambulance in the street
also an ambulance.
At the same time Sara arrives in a taxi
Sara has also just alighted from a taxi outside the Deri,
"I'm sorry, Sara!"
and is furious when she finds out that Jason fell asleep on the sofa.
Ifan has been brought out, apparently unscathed . . .
At that moment, Macs staggers from the building with the baby, who is understandably distressed.
. . . and reunited with his parents
Sara and Jason are tremendously relieved to be reunited with their son.
The event is viewed from the Deri flat
Watching from the window of the Deri flat, Dani tells Mathew to go to Vicky;
Mathew seems reluctant to leave
“If you loved her, you would want to be with her – go to her, Mathew!”
Macs watches them in the ambulance
Macs, looking smoke-blackened, but otherwise unharmed, looks into the back of the ambulance,
"You're quite the hero!"
and Ffion comments, “You’ve been quite the hero!”
"Anyone would have done the same"
He replies that he only did what anyone would have done, but she says, “Jason’s and Sara’s lives could have been very different, if it were not for your response.   Life is fragile.”
"Do you think I could come over and see Arwen?"
Again he asks, “Do you think I could come over to see Arwen later?   I’d like to spend some time with her.”   FF considers that he needs rest and an early night.
"When can I see her?"
As she walks away, he demands when he will be able to.
The blackened string of lights is retrieved
The fire crew have identified the source of the blaze, the Christmas tree lights;
"It looks like these were to blame"
“It looks like these were to blame – the fire was accidental,” Jason is told, “There is nothing you could have done.”
"I can't believe I swallowed your lies!"
Dani replaces the baby in her cot, as she says, “I can’t believe I sat here swallowing your lies!” Mathew insists that he thinks the world of Vicky;  “So why are you still here?” she demands.
"I'm not the type who walks away!"
He emphasises, “Because of the baby – I’m not the type who walks away from his responsibilities.   Maybe I should be in that photo!”   Dani is quite certain that she is not Mathew’s baby – a mother’s instinct.
"If she's my baby, I have a right to know!"
“If she’s my baby, I have a right to know!” he shouts, “I have a responsibility and a duty to do the right thing!”
Garry angrily rips down the Christmas lights
Garry marches in, growling that Colin is going to pay for this;  “They had to pull Ifan out of the house – he could have been killed because of these!”   He rips down their set of lights.
Vicky is in a terrible state
Vicky bursts in;  “It was terrible!   What if we’d been a couple of minutes later?”   Mathew hugs her, consolingly
Dani hugs Garry . . .
while Dani makes a show of embracing Garry,
. . . while glowering at Mathew
and looks accusingly across at Mathew.
