A nice, tasty chicken sandwich
Chester is enjoying a chicken sandwich in the café
Chester thinks he has been found out
when he feels a hand on his shoulder;
"That looks very nice!"
“What have you got there?   It looks very nice,” says Dai.
Chester will tell Hannah the truth
Chester insists that it is his last one, as he is going to tell Hannah he has been eating meat on the sly.
"Don't you drag me into this"
Dai does not want to get dragged into this, but Chester replies, “I don’t have a choice – I’m not comfortable with keeping it a secret.   I only suggested it because I wanted to keep you quiet, but I want to come clean now.”
"Hunter-gatherers, nibbling cooked ham"
Dai cannot understand this sudden honesty;  “Look, I’m not sentimental, but I thought we were having fun, chatting during midnight feasts – men together – hunter-gatherers bonding.   We’re not hurting anyone, are we?   We’re minding our own business – while nibbling on some cooked ham.
"You listen to Dai"
“And what would Hannah say if she found out about it?   You listen to Dai, and keep it zipped!   I’ve got some beef for us tonight – silverside – lovely!”   Chester feels guilty and puts down his chicken sandwich.
"Don't get your hopes up!"
At Maes-y-Deri , Ricky comes in with the post;  “The results are here!” he announces.   Mark warns them not to get their hopes up, as it does not matter what the results are.
"Incompatible!"
In turn, Debbie,
"Sorry, Mark!"
Vicky and then
"This must be a mistake!"
Ricky find that they are not a match.
Ricky especially is devastated that he cannot help his father, but Kath says that there is always Colin.
"You know Colin won't be a match!"
“You know Colin won’t be a match!” Ricky shouts and runs upstairs.
"Ricky had convinced himself"
Debbie says that he had convinced himself,
Mark is resigned to his fate
and Mark feels very downhearted.
"I haven't died, have I?"
“Can we stop this silence?” demands Mark, after a few seconds, “I haven’t died, have I?”   Kath is almost in tears,
Non looks very guilty
and Non looks very guilty.
"You've been impatient all day"
At the farm, Cadno is in a grumpy mood, and Eifion says that she has been impatient all day.
"I don't see any point to this place any more"
“I don’t see any point to this place any more,” she replies, “I cant carry on like this!”   He points out that their situation is totally artificial, and they need to keep some perspective.
“Nothing has worked out this year – not the shooting syndicate, not this – nothing!” she continues.
Eifion encourages her to be positive
Eifion reminds her she has sorted out the problem with Jim, and they can move the stock soon;  he urges her to stay positive.
"With Brexit hanging over us?"
“With Brexit hanging over us?” she asks, “No, I feel like putting the place on the market, and getting rid of it for good!”
This time, Chester is caught red-handed
Hannah comes into the café, where Chester appears to have overcome his reluctance and is again eating his chicken sandwich.   He looks startled, and tells her, “It’s chicken –
"I'm so sorry, Hannah!"
“I’m so sorry – I wanted to tell you for days – I’m eating meat again!   Dai and I meet on the sly for meat feasts – and DJ comes as well, although he’s not a vegan.   I was going to tell you, I swear, but Dai persuaded me to keep quiet.”
"Why have you done this behind my back?"
“Why have you done this behind my back?” Hannah demands, “Gran and I are the only ones taking this seriously!”
"Diane had a bacon sarnie yesterday"
Then Chester enlightens her that Diane had a bacon sarnie yesterday but he insists on explaining, “She had to eat it because she almost fainted.”   This horrifies Hannah,
Conveniently, Dai and Diane are passing
and just at that moment, Dai and Diane happen to be passing outside;  Hannah rushes out, with Chester in hot pursuit.
"When were you going to tell me?"
“When were you going to tell me that you were feeling ill yesterday?” she asks, and Diane dismisses it as nothing,
"I'm all right now"
pointing out that she is all right now.   “After the bacon sarnie?” exclaims Hannah,
"Don't you stand there, all smug!"
“And dont you stand there all smug, Uncle David – Chester has told me everything about you meeting to eat meat.”
"It was all Chester's fault!"
Dai protests that Chester blackmailed him into it,
"You've all made a fool of me!"
and Hannah tells them, “You’ve all made a fool of me!”   Diane confesses that they have all been weak, but they still want to be vegan,
"Let's discuss it tonight"
and she says they can discuss it at home tonight.
Hannah hurries away, warning Chester not to follow her;
"I did tell you the truth, Hannah"
he points out that he did tell her the truth.   “Only after I caught you scoffing!” she replies.
"I know you're upset, Rick"
Mark knows how upset Ricky is, but he says that he is angry, as he wanted to help his father, and urges Mark to stop treating him like a child.
"I can't give you the kidney you need!"
“I can’t give you the kidney you need!”
"We must just accept it"
Mark points out that neither of them can do anything about it, so they must accept it.   “What if something happens to you?” Ricky asks, but is told that there is plenty of fight left in Mark Jones.
"Sorry, Mark, I'm not a match"
Colin comes in through the back door with a disappointing news that he is not a match, and he is very sorry.
"I'll call the hospital to confirm"
When he has gone, Debbie wants to call the hospital to confirm dialysis appointments.
"I'll sort it out myself"
Mark replies, “I’ll sort it out myself,” and she reminds him that it is all right to feel disappointed.   “I don’t want a fuss – I’m fine.
"I'm going out for a walk"
I’m going for a walk, alone.”
"I don't have to talk to you"
Back at Bryntirion, Hannah moans, “You can follow me around all you like, but I don’t have to talk to you.”   Chester insists that he wanted to tell her ages.
He admits he did set up the scheme, but only to keep Dai quiet;
"Dai caught me eating a sausage roll"
“Because he caught me eating a sausage roll last week.”   Hannah is no less furious, accusing him of turning the whole thing into a joke.   “I know how much it means to you – and I didn’t want to let you down!” he says.
"You shouldn't be a vegan because of me"
“Let me down?” she demands, “You should be vegan because of your personal belief, not because of me.”
Eifion proposes a party for the boys
Eifion thought they could have a party when the boys get home, and then she could show him how to knit.
"Don't be stupid!"
“Don’t be stupid!   None of this will change how I feel,” Cadno answers, and he points out that he is fed up too, and wants to give up.
"I wasn't serious about selling this place"
“I wasn’t serious about selling this place – I said it for the sake of saying it,” she explains.
"We haven't shared our concerns"
Eifion goes on, “That’s been our problem over the last few weeks – we’ve made our own decisions and not shared our concerns.   Now we’re under the same roof, and we still can’t work together.
She does not want to suffer alone
Suit yourself if you want to suffer without me!”
It is dark, but Mark is not home
It is now dark, and Debbie has brought in the washing, but Mark is still not home;
"I don't know what I'd do without Mark!"
Non is also worried and says that today has been difficult.   “I don’t know what I’d do if I lost him!” sniffs Debbie, “I don’t remember life without Mark.”
"Hundreds of people go on dialysis every year"
Non tries to reassure her that Mark will be all right, and hundreds of people go on dialysis every year.   “I’d do anything to help him if I could,” Debbie says,
Non knows what she has to do
“He should be back by now.”
"Can I sit closer to you?"
Chester asks if he can sit closer to Hannah, and she agrees;
"I don't want to be a vegan"
“Right, I’ve been thinking a lot about this vegan business,” he begins, “I don’t want to be one.”
"A bit of honesty at last!"
She is pleased that at last he is being honest.   “I can understand why people want to be vegans, but it’s just not for me,” he adds.
"Are they doing it for the right reasons?"
Hannah wonders if her Gran and Uncle David not doing it for the right reasons, and Chester is not sure about Dai but he thinks Diane is serious, –
"Diane thinks she is serious"
or at least she thinks she is, but it is a big commitment.   “You’re going to have to make it very easy for her to back down, because she doesn’t like the idea of letting you down.”
Debbie peers round the curtains, but can see no sign of Mark;
Debbie is about to call the police
she thinks that she should call the police, as he is not answering his phone.   She worries that he might have fallen, but then the door opens.
"Where have you been?"
“Where have you been?   I’ve been worried about you!” she exclaims.
Mark replies that he just wanted some peace and quiet, but she protests, “You shouldn’t have gone in your condition – anything could have happened to you!”
He does not want any more interrogation
He hangs up his coat and goes upstairs.
Non is desperate to talk to Colin
In the chip shop flat, Non says she has been desperate to talk to Colin;  he has just returned from the cash and carry.   “I need to have the test done!” she insists, “I don’t have any choice, do I?
"I'm Mark's last chance!"
“I’m Mark’s last chance in the family!   I have to do it – I’ve lost Mam, and I can’t risk losing Mark as well.
"Will you come to the hospital with me?"
Will you come to the hospital with me?   Now – before I change my mind!”   Colin agrees, and they hurry off.
The strained silence in Bryntirion
The atmosphere around the dinner table at Bryntirion it is rather fraught;
"It won't happen again"
Diane says that Dai has explained the midnight feasts, and has promised it will never happen again.
"I don't mind if it does happen again"
“I don’t mind if it does happen again,” replies Hannah, “You should only be vegans if that’s what you want.”
"We do want to be vegans"
Both Dai and Diane insist they do want to be vegans, and that it is good for them;  besides, Hannah does cook them some lovely meals.
"Why did you want to be vegans in the first place?"
“OK, why did you want to be vegans in the first place?” Hannah enquires, and Diane hesitates before answering.   “Stop this, will you?” Hannah exclaims,
"Just tell the truth, like Chester has done"
“Being a vegan is a big deal – just tell the truth, like Chester has done.”
"I would choose not to be vegan"
Dai tells her, “Right, if I had the choice, I’d chose not to be vegan.”   Hannah assures him that he has always had the choice, and he sighs, “I can’t cope with much more of this budgie food –
Chester listens to the graphic details of Dai's inner workings
“it’s playing hell with my bowels!   They’ve gone berserk!   And to be honest, I miss my leather shoes as well.”
"Sausage and bacon"
Even Diane confesses that she likes to eat meat;  “Sausage and bacon –
Dai can almost taste the steak of which she speaks
“and steak – I even like eating spam!   Sorry, love.”   Hannah tells her to stop being silly.
“Well, that’s settled, then,” decides Dai,
"Anyone fancy a kebab?"
“Anyone fancy a kebab?” but apparently he is only joking.
"Sorry if I gave you a scare"
At Penrhewl, the boys are in bed watching television, and Cadno is sorry if she gave Eifion a scare earlier, saying she wanted to sell the place.
"I wanted you to know how fed up I am"
“I just wanted you to know how fed up I am – and I know you are too.   We need to talk more openly from now on.”
"We'll have a nice Christmas"
He assures her that when they get through this, they will have a nice Christmas, as it is not as if they are going to starve;  “And Christmas isn’t about material things anyway.”
"A New Year and a new opportunity"
Cadno agrees that this will be a New Year and a new opportunity.
Diane complains that it was very mean of Megan to charge them to get their shoes back.
The restocking of the fridge is under way . . .
Dai hands her pack after pack of meat to restock the fridge,
. . . but not the full English breakfast he was hoping for
but she warns him it will be muesli for his breakfast, and that they are not going to eat meat on a Monday from now on, or any dairy produce.
"No, its Faux Fur, Dai"
He reminds her of her fur coat, but she points out that it is Faux Fur
This sketch is in better condition than the last one
As an apology, Chester gives Hannah the sketch he has made of her.   She is adamant that she wants no more secrets,
They appear to be reconciled
he agrees and she kisses him.
"It will be cheaper if I take you"
Mark is sitting on the sofa, staring at the TV, and Debbie joins him;  he says he will get a taxi to his appointment on Friday, although she wants to take him.
"I don't need a nanny either!"
“I don’t need a lift – right?   I don’t need a nanny either!   Look, this is my problem, OK?
"I'd like to deal with it in my own way"
My illness – so I’d like to deal with it in my own way, if you don’t mind.”
