18 December 2017

Non receives an official NHS letter
Non is looking at a letter with the heading NHS, while Kath is sorting through the rest of the post;
Mark and Kath sort through the rest of the post
there is one from Josh, who is spending his Christmas in North Wales and one from Stacey, who was asking about Mark last night.   Mark has found one from Dol, which reads, “Iechyd da from sunny Torremolinos.”
"Prpbably had too much sangria!"
Non folds up the letter as Kath remarks, “She’s probably had too much sangria to send a decent card!”
Kath wants help with the shopping
Then she tells Non, “Hold on, I want you to come shopping with me – can you pick me up at lunchtime?   I can’t carry all that stuff back on the bus.”   Non gives the excuse that she has to see her tutor.
"Buy vouchers for everyone"
Mark suggests that his mother could buy vouchers for everyone, as that is what she usually does, but she insists that she wants to get him something special this year;  “You’re never too old to be spoiled!”
Colin is flogging cheap lights
Non meets Colin by the Christmas tree;  he is selling boxes of Christmas lights, and asks her how many boxes she wants.   She is persuaded by his patter, and purchases a box,
Non accidentally drops the letter
but in the process drops her letter, which Colin picks up.
"Today?   Why didn't you say?"
“Today?   Why didn’t you say?”   She replies that it is not a big deal, only a couple of tests, and when he offers to come with her,
"I'll be fine on my own"
she tells him she will be fine on her own, and goes, leaving her lights behind.
Ed is rebuffed
In the café, Kelly is having considerable trouble with the Christmas lights, but refuses any help from Ed.
"That's not like her"
Siôn remarks to Ed and that it is not like her, but is told that it is when Ed is around.   Then Macs comes swaggering in, and decides to help Kelly;
"You're a real gent, Macs"
this time she graciously accepts, commenting, “You’re a real gent, despite what other people say.”
This is too much for Ed, who he says he has to go;  Kelly is ready to give him his coffee,
"If he doesn't want it, I'll have it!"
but Macs offers to drink it for him, complimenting her that she knows how to make coffee.
Macs takes a fancy to Kelly
They smile at each other, and his father reminds him why he is here;
"You're here for Arwen, nothing else!"
“It’s about Arwen, and nothing else.”   I’m going over to see Ffion, to invite them over after Christmas.   You never know if they will agree until you try.”
"I'll buy you a coffee"
As Ed walks dejectedly past APD, Dai calls to him, “I’ll buy you a coffee,” but he replies he has just had one.   “Come on, this is important,” insists Dai,
Ed does not want to do this
so Ed very reluctantly returns to the café.
Kath is Colin's next target
In the street, Colin tries to interest Kath in one of his boxes of Christmas lights;
"Too cheap, I'd say!"
“They’re too cheap I’d say!” is her verdict, but she agrees to buy one, and is in a hurry to catch the bus.
"Was Non at home when you left?"
He asks her if Non was at home when she left just now, but Kath tells him she had an appointment somewhere.
Then he tries to sell some lights to Macs;
Then he tries his selling technique on Macs
“Do you know what would put a smile on that ugly mug of yours?   Fairy lights!”   Macs looks sceptically at the box.
Dai explains his cunning plan
In the café, Dai explains his plan;  “What we’re going to do with the money from his parade is to buy tackle bags for the youth team,” but Ed replies that this is not right.
"Come on – we're almost there"
“Don’t fuss now – we are almost there!”
"This will go to clear the club's debt"
Ed points out that the youth will not get a penny, but the money will go to clear the club’s debt.   Dai urges him to be quiet, as they have to get the money from somewhere;  “The club is on its knees!”
"It's meant to be charity money"
Ed again stresses that it is meant to be charity money, but is asked, “Do you want the club to go bankrupt?”
"The second cup in ten minutes"
Kelly comments that it is the second cup of coffee Ed has ordered in ten minutes, and he replies that the staff are so friendly.   Then she tells Dai that there is a meeting in the Deri at lunchtime about the procession;  “Can you come and explain more about the lorry you’re supplying?”
"No problem at all, Kelly"
He replies that it would be an absolute pleasure.
"You're a real star!"
“Do you know what?” says Kelly, “I never thought I’d say this, but you’re a real star!”
Ed is disgusted at this, and when Dai has returned to APD,
"Dai is not quite the star you think he is!"
he tells Kelly, “OK, I can’t carry on like this!   Dai is not quite the star you think he is!”
At Y Felin, Macs is putting up the Christmas lights when Siôn returns,
Siôn received a hostile reception from Ffion
reporting that Ffion will not let Arwen come over – and he was not welcome there.   “She’s still annoyed with me for contacting you!”   Macs comes to the conclusion that he should go home.
Siôn pleads with Macs to stay
Unfortunately, Siôn tells him that this is his home, and dissuades him;  “You surely don’t want to spend Christmas on your own – stay here – I’d love to have you!”
"All right – just until the New Year"
Macs agrees, just until the New Year.
Then there is a knock at the door, and Anita comes in with some mince pies;
Anita is surprised to see Macs
she is also surprised to see Macs,
"He's come over to see Arwen"
and Siôn explains that he has come over to see Arwen.   Macs will go and make a cup of tea to go with the mince pies.
“I thought Ffion had told him to stay away,” she comments,
"He couldn't stay away with Arwen so ill"
but Siôn says he could not with Arwen so ill.   I’ve got some good news for you,” she goes on,
"I'm going to Canada in the New Year"
“I’m going to Canada in the New Year – I’m looking forward to seeing the children – well, Wil’s almost a man now.”
"Macs is staying for Christmas"
Siôn is pleased that Macs is going to stay for Christmas.
This seems to disappoint Anita;  “It’s just that I was going to invite you and Ed to have Christmas dinner with us – but what’s one more?”
Siôn has his doubts about the wisdom of this . . .
Siôn is rather doubtful about this, but she stresses that there is no point in them both cooking.   She is also quite confident that Kelly and Ed under the same roof will be fine, although Siôn refers to the tension between them earlier.
. . . but Anita predicts some 'Christmas Magic'
“Maybe some Christmas Magic will bring them together,” Anita predicts, and then Macs brings in the tea and mince pies.
When he hears about Christmas dinner . . .
“I was asking your father if you would join us for Christmas dinner.”
He is quite enthusiastic about this, and mentions that it will be nice to see Kelly again,
. . . with Kelly, he is very enthusiastic
as she is a lovely girl;  Anita is perhaps now not so positive, while Siôn looks stern and shakes his head.
Kelly is disappointed with the turnout
In the Deri, Kelly arrives to find that the meeting only comprises Dai, Colin and Ed;  she remarks on the absence of Britt and Eileen.
Initially she strings Dai along . . .
Then she announces, “I want to say how grateful we are to Dai for his help.   It isn’t just up to me, but I propose that 80% of the money goes to the rugby club youth team.”
. . . puzzling Ed in the process
Ed cannot believe what he is hearing, but she describes it as a worthy cause.
"Come off it, Kel!"
As Anita arrives, Colin is insisting, “Come off it, Kel, you can’t give the rugby club 80% of the money!” and Anita is also outraged at the idea.   Dai is at great pains to point out that this is not for the rugby club, but for the youth – which is a worthy cause, and he is grateful to Kelly for recognising that.
"Your precious club's not getting a penny!"
Kelly smiles, “Oh Dai, as if!   Your precious club’s not getting a penny – a little birdie told me what your game is.   Dai is only helping us out to get his dirty paws on the money we raise.   You’re skint – and you’re so tight you want to use charity money to save the club!   The youths aren’t getting anything!   Right?”
Dai is infuriated
Dai blusters that they will get benefit in the future,
"You've seen the chance to make a quick buck"
but Kelly continues unabated;  “You’re in debt, and you’ve seen a chance to make a quick buck!”
"That's typical, Dai!"
which Anita describes as typical.
"Someone had to stop you!"
Ed says that someone had to stop him.
"Were supposed to be bringing the community together"
By this time, Siôn has joined them, and points out that they are supposed to be bringing the community together;  Anita maintains that Dai is only thinking of himself,
"The club will have to find another mug!"
and Kelly is quite adamant, “The club will have to find another mug to give you the cash – and while we’re at it, we don’t want your lorry either!”
“That suits me just fine!” rages Dai;  he finishes his pint
"If you can find a lorry and driver on Christmas morning . . ."
and tells them, “If you think you can find a lorry and driver on Christmas morning, good luck to you!”
"I'll find one somewhere!"
Kelly assures them that she will find a lorry, but no one knows where it will come from.
Kath is rather overdoing it
At Maes-y-Deri, Kath is insisting this is going to be a special Christmas for her special boy, and is getting on Mark’s nerves.
"I couldn't get all this on the bus"
Non returns, and Kath moans at her, “I had to get a taxi home, as I couldn’t get all this on the bus!”
"My tutor is pleased"
Non reports that her tutor is pleased with her work, and Kath wants to know where they are going to put the new lights.   “Colin was selling them cheap, and I couldn’t say no,” she maintains, “The place will look nicer for you then, won’t it, love?”
"Found a lorry yet?"
Anita returns from the bar with her drink and asks if Kelly has found a lorry yet.   She comes to the conclusion that Santa will have to walk,
"How about a car with the windows down?"
or perhaps travel in a car with the windows down, but Kelly describes this as, “Really magical!   I’m going to find a lorry – and that’s what I will do!”
"She's a determined woman!"
Macs has joined the group, and calls Kelly a determined woman.   When Ed returns from the Tyler,
"Oi!   I want a word with you!"
she accosts him with, “Oi!   I want a word with you!   Why didn’t you tell me Dai was on the fiddle?” He protests that he did,
"If you had told me earlier!"
but she goes on, “If you told me sooner, I would have had more time to sort this out!   We’re working our socks off to get a procession off the ground – and it’s chaos now!”
"I didn't come here to be told off!"
Ed walks off saying, “I didn’t come here to be told off – I’m going home!”
"Christmas dinner at your house will be fun!"
Macs watches this altercation with amusement;  “There’s plenty of fire in her belly – Christmas dinner at your house will be fun!”
The lights are up . . .
Kath has put up the Christmas lights, but when she switches them on,
. . . but fail to work
nothing happens.   “Typical Colin – I knew that they were too cheap!”   She insists that she is going to phone him now and sort the matter out;
"I want everything to be perfect for you"
Mark is in some pain, but she goes on about making everything perfect for him.
"Well, it's not with you fussing like an old hen!"
“Well, it’s not with you fussing around the place like some hen!” he informs her, “I just want things to be normal – it’s too much – you’re too much!”
"I'm going upstairs for some peace"
He goes upstairs to lie down in peace.
Colin thinks up a promotional gimmick
Colin is having a 2 for 1 promotion on his Christmas lights;  then he receives an angry phone call from Kath.
"Hav you tried switching them off and on again?"
He asks, “Have you tried switching them off and on again?”
"That's not very Christmassy, Kath!"
On hearing her reply, he comments, “That’s not very Christmassy!   Listen, I’ll come over with a new set for you.”
Siôn is not listening to Anita
Anita is planning her Christmas dinner menu, but Siôn is worried about Macs and Kelly playing darts.
"It's worse than ever between them"
“Ed and Kelly – it’s worse than ever between them!” he says, but Anita is confident they will have forgiven each other by Christmas.   “It’s not just those two I’m worried about,” he adds,
"I know Macs – once a girl catches his eye . . ."
“I know Macs – once a girl catches his eye . . .”
Anita is sure that Kelly will not throw herself into Macs’ arms, and everything will be all right.
"Let Christmas lunch come as a surprise to them"
“Don’t tell Ed or Kelly they going to share lunch until Christmas Day – I don’t want to give them the chance to refuse.”
"I want to finish the game first"
Siôn is keen to leave, but Macs wants to finish the game first.
Mark apologises
When Mark comes downstairs, he apologises to his mother, and does appreciate what she is doing, but all he wants to do is to spend time with them all.   “None of this matters –
"Do you promise to calm down a bit?"
“do you promise to calm down a bit?”   She says that she will try,
He settles down on the sofa
and he sits beside her on the sofa.
There is a knock at the door, and Non answers it;
"How did it go at the hospital?"
in the hall, Colin asks how it went at the hospital, and she replies that it was fine.
He hands over the replacement lights
He presents Kath with the replacement lights, but she insists that they are not important, much to Colin’s surprise.
"There's one thing that would make Christmas perfect"
Mark mentions that one thing would make Christmas perfect,
"There's a donor out there, and we're going to find him"
and Kath assures him, “It’s going to happen, I’m telling you now.   There’s a donor out there, and we are going to find him.”
"Or her"
“Or her,” adds Colin, and Non goes to make a cup of tea.
"Please tell Mark"
In the kitchen, Colin begs Non to tell Mark, and give him a glimmer of hope.
"I may fail the tests"
She stresses that she may fail the tests, and that telling him would be cruel.
"I can't bear seeing him like this"
Colin cannot bear to see him like this,
"This is my decision, Colin!"
but she is adamant that this is her decision, and she is not going to raise his hopes.
