| Gaynor appreciates the flowers |
Gaynor returns home from hospital, accompanied by Elgan; he has bought her some flowers to welcome her home.
| Elgan helps her off with her coat . . . |
He helps her off with her coat, and offers to make a cup of tea, as he does not need to be at work until the team meeting later on.
| . . . and makes the tea |
He says that he has arranged for Colin to be here when he goes, as it is important for her to have some company.
| "I don't know what I'd do without you" |
“Thanks for everything – I don’t know what I’d do without you,” Gaynor tells him, “You should be having some rest, too,” and he admits that he is exhausted.
| "Let me do that, Mark" |
At Maes-y-Deri, Non insists on doing the washing-up,
| "They're all having tests because of me" |
while Mark says, “I hate to think of all of them in the hospital, having tests because of me.” Then Colin arrives at the back door;
| "Perhaps I shall be your match!" |
he tells Mark that he has had the test, and perhaps will be the match for him.
| "I wouldn't do the same for you" |
Mark replies that he would not do the same for Colin, which initially surprises Colin, but then he realises Mark does not have a kidney to spare.
| "The best double-act Carmarthenshire has ever seen!" |
Colin tells Non, “We were the best double act Carmarthenshire has ever seen!”
| "Cwmderi's Morecambe and Wise" |
Mark explains that it was called ‘Dim O’r Uchod’ [NONE OF THE ABOVE], and describes it as Cwmderi’s Morecambe and Wise.
| "Have you been for your test?" |
Colin asks if Non has been for her test, but Mark informs him that she has only one kidney, which Colin regards as a strange coincidence. Mark is now suffering from cramps, and has to go upstairs to lie down.
| "I hate seeing him so ill" |
“I hate seeing him so ill,” Colin says, “I just hope that someone will be a match. It must be hard for you not being able to help your brother. Were you born like that or . . .?”
| "I don't want to talk about it" |
Non does not want to talk about it,
| "I've been lying to everybody!" |
but then suddenly admits, “I’ve been lying to everybody! I have got two kidneys.” Colin looks very confused.
| There is an overpowering stench in the business units |
In the business units, Jason and DJ are removing everything from the community fridge, as there is such a terrible smell emanating from it that Sara has had enough. Jason is angry when Siôn arrives, but he points out that some of the stuff has been in there for ages, and that Mark was supposed to be here.
| "Mark is not well" |
DJ informs him that Mark is not well, and when Siôn opens the door of the freezer, the smell is overpowering,
| DJ looks likely to throw up at any moment |
making DJ feel nauseous. Siôn is losing his temper by now.
| Non brings tea . . . |
Non brings Colin a cup of tea, and explains, “One minute Debbie was asking everyone to do the test, and the next minute I felt this terrible fear fill my body.
| . . . and begins to explain to Colin |
“Then it came out, this lie you that I’ve only got one kidney.”
| "You've got yourself into quite a pickle!" |
Colin can see that she has got herself into quite a pickle, but she urges him to keep his voice down, and closes the door.
| "I'm a terrible person!" |
Colin wonders if she has a phobia, or a fear of needles, but she calls herself, “A terrible person!”
He says that something similar happened to him years ago when he was at school. He did not want to play in the rugby team,
| "I said that Auntie Phyllis had died" |
so he said that his Auntie Phyllis had died. “Just like that, without thinking about it at all – I don’t have an Auntie Phyllis.”
| "That's not quite the same, Colin" |
Non points out that it is not quite the same.
| "I promised to go and see Gaynor" |
Mark comes downstairs, saying that his mouth is as dry as a bone, so Colin leaves, as he promised Elgan he would pop over to see Gaynor, who has just got home.
| "Meet me in the Deri tonight, please!" |
Non asks Colin to meet her in the Deri tonight; “I have to talk to someone about this, or I’ll go mad!”
| Add captionSn does not appreciate Dai 's pontificating |
Siôn is wearing an improvised mask as he attempts to clean out the fridge; Dai, who has joined the onlookers, tells him, “I said from the start this fridge would be nothing but trouble!”
Siôn replies that he is welcome to join them, as they are always looking for volunteers, but is told, “I think you know the answer that question!”
| "Always ready to complain!" |
Siôn furiously addresses him, “Always ready to complain, but never ready to pitch in!” Dai asserts that no one does more for this village that he does, but he tends to choose projects that work. “Projects that work to fill your own pocket!” snarls Siôn.
| Dai continues to wind up Siôn . . . |
“Mother Theresa here needs to be told he’s causing a stink from here to Cwrtmynach!” shouts Dai.
| . . . as he wipes a two-pint of semi-skimmed |
Siôn is brandishing a two-pint bottle of semi-skimmed milk, past its expiry date, as he turns and exclaims, “Look here, Dai!”
| Siôn's aim could not have been better |
He involuntarily squeezes the bottle, the cap flies off, and Dai is doused in sour milk.
| "Oh no! What have I done?" |
Siôn is aghast and very repentant, but Dai stomps off furiously, and Jason cannot stop laughing.
| "I've got some news for you" |
At Llwyncelyn, Colin tells Gaynor that she looks a lot better than she did last week, and he also has some news for her; “Something’s happened to Britt and me!”
| "She's not expecting, I hope!" |
“She’s not expecting, I hope?” Gaynor replies,
| "We've got engaged" |
but he tells her they have got engaged – he has told the girls and they are thrilled. He says that it has not been easy;
| "Poor Elgan with his concussion" |
it has been a very strange couple of weeks, with Gaynor in hospital, Mark ill, him getting engaged and poor Elgan with his concussion.
| "What concussion?" |
This puzzles Gaynor, as she knew nothing about any concussion; “Haven’t you heard?” asks Colin, “After the roof fell, he wasn’t able to help you or anyone else. He had a terrible knock on the head – he was just standing there, staring at everything.
| "He probably didn't want to worry you" |
“Didn’t he tell you? He probably didn’t want to worry you because you are ill.”
| "Another secret he has kept from me" |
Now Gaynor looks even more puzzled.
| "I can still smell that milk!" |
Dai comes downstairs at Bryntirion in his dressing gown, complaining that he can still smell the milk, although Diane says that she cannot. “I’ve had three showers – I’ll kill that Siôn White!” he rages, “I should report him and his fridge to the environmental!”
| "That fridge of yours is not fit for purpose!" |
Then Diane answers the door to Siôn, and Dai continues his tirade, “That fridge of yours is not fit for purpose –
| Siôn allays his anger with a bottle |
“but worse than that, you threw milk over a vegan, and that’s shameful!”
Siôn produces a bottle from his coat as an apology, and assures Dai that he does not have to worry about the fridge;
| "The community fridge project is finished!" |
the project is now finished. “Hallelujah! I’ll phone the Western Post!” says Dai.
| "I don't know why I bother sometimes" |
“It’s been nothing but trouble from the start,” Siôn adds, “I don’t know why I bother sometimes.
| Chester and Hannah are preparing dinner |
“Right, I’d better go – I want to take the fridge to the recycling centre before it closes. My apologies again – it was an accident, honestly!”
| "Poor Siôn sounded so fed up" |
Diane comments that Siôn sounded so fed up; “Fed up?” exclaims Dai, “It wasn’t him who had a gallon of milk poured over him!” Diane continues that nothing has worked out for Siôn lately, and encourages Dai to offer to help him with the fridge, and take it in the van.
| "No way, José!" |
His response is, “No way, José!” but she reminds him that is not the vegan way of doing things.
| "Chick peas, onions, vegetables – and tofu" |
Hannah announces that dinner is going to be lush; “Chick peas, onions, vegetables and tofu.”
| "Do you miss the sausage rolls?" |
Dai asks Chester if he misses eating meat at all – the odd burger, bacon, sausage roll.
| "No, not at all!" |
Chester is quite emphatic that he does not miss such things at all,
| Dai smirks slightly |
which surprises Dai.
| Colin finds the whole thing strange . . . |
When Colin meets Non in the Deri, he finds it strange that whole thing came out of nowhere, as she has not got any phobias.
| . . . so Non reveals the truth – (or is it the truth?) |
“I haven’t been completely honest with you, Colin,” she replies, “My mother died during an operation – I kissed her gently on the forehead, and said that I would see her later, but she never came back. I knew there was a risk – she had cancer – but the doctors were confident they could help her.
| Now Colin can understand |
“That’s why I’m frightened – but that doesn’t make me less selfish. Mark needs a match now!”
| "Don't be too hard on yourself" |
Colin tells her not to be too hard on herself, then Mark walks in,
| "I had to get away from the house" |
saying that he wanted some fresh air and to get away from the house. Non says that he is not well enough to be wandering around the village,
| "I could do with something to eat" |
but he thinks he needs something to eat.
| Siôn invites Dai to take what he wants |
Dai has followed his wife’s orders and assisted Siôn with the fridge; they bring the still edible food into Y Felin,
| "No, Siôn . . ." |
and Dai is invited to take what he needs. “No,” he says,
| ". . . meat is worthless to a vegan like me" |
“There’s a lot of meat, and that’s worthless to a vegan like me.” Siôn thanks him for the help and does not know how we would have managed on his own.
“No problem – we are in this old world to help each other,” Dai replies,
| "Arwen has a brain tumour" |
and Siôn is sorry that he overreacted, but Arwen is ill, and not many people know. Dai is very shocked when he hears that it is a brain tumour, what stresses that they have to be positive.
“And you need to take care of yourself as well – surround yourself with friends,” Dai goes on, and Siôn points out that Ed is staying at Y Felin at moment.
| "You didn't slip this into my pocket, did you?" |
Then Dai finds that he has a pasty in his pocket, and says that it is not just that he cannot eat meat,
| Dai invents another rule of veganism |
but he cannot give anyone else meat either, so he refuses to hand it to Siôn.
| "This is going straight in the bin!" |
He will dispose of it on his way home;
| "Oh yeah – pull the other one!" |
Siôn does not seem to believe this.
| Gaynor has had a good meal . . . |
Gaynor has enjoyed the meal prepared by Elgan,
| . . . which is just what the doctor ordered |
who insists that it is important the patient has a decent meal. “It was nice to see Colin earlier – he and Britt are engaged,” she tells Elgan,
| "Colin said you had concussion" |
“But I had a bit of a shock, because he said you had concussion when the roof fell.”
| Elgan quickly concocts a story |
He lies that he fell and hurt his head; he did not know where he was and it was not very nice.
| "Why didn't you say anything?" |
Gaynor demands why he did not say anything, and he replies that she had enough on her plate, and felt rather guilty because he could not do anything to help her or anyone else.
| "I think I need an early night" |
Gaynor is feeling rather light-headed and thinks she will have an early night.
| "It's not her fault she has only one kidney" |
In the Deri, Mark tells Colin that Non is upset because she is not in a position to help him; “It’s not her fault if she only has one kidney,”
| "It must be very hard for her" |
and Colin agrees that it must be very hard for her. “She’s always fussing over me,” adds Mark.
| "I'm going to pay, Mark" |
Then Non returns to the table, and insists she is going to pay for their meal.
| "The best little sister you could ask for" |
Mark describes her as, “The best little sister you could ask for.”
| "Did you enjoy the pasty, Dai?" |
At Bryntirion, Diane and Hannah are preparing the food; Chester whispers to Dai, “Did you enjoy the pasty? I’ve got a lot more things like that if you want them.”
| "Are you trying to bribe me now?" |
“Are you trying to bribe me now?” asks Dai,
| "Meet me here at midnight" |
but Chester says he is just offering some more, and invites Dai to meet him here at midnight, but not a word to Hannah.
| "Oh, this looks delicious!" |
Dinner is served.
| Gaynor still has back trouble |
Gaynor and Elgan enter the bedroom, and he helps remove her dressing gown;
| "I don't know what I would have done without you" |
she is not sure what she would have done without him.
| "I need an early night, too" |
He thinks that he will have an early night too, as he still has a bit of a headache.
| A saiucepan is the hiding place this time |
At midnight, Chester takes a saucepan from the bottom of the cupboard, and Dai joins him in taking advantage of the pasties that it contains.
| 'They taste nice as well!" |
“These look nice!” he enthuses, “And they taste nice as well!” Chester informs him that his friend’s mother sells them in Carmarthen market,
| "They're award winning!" |
and they are award-winning, according to him.
| They appear to have been rumbled |
As Dai asks whether she does faggots as well, DJ peers at them in the darkness. “What are you doing? You’re supposed to be vegans!” he remarks. Dai tells him to sit down and keep his mouth shut;
| They all enjoy their midnight feast |
offered a pasty, DJ decides to join them, and assures them that their secret is safe with him. They all three tuck into their pasties,
| "She doesn't do faggots as well, does she?" |
and DJ also wants to know if she does faggots.
| Elgan shouts in his sleep |
During the night, Elgan is tossing and turning; he shouts, “No!”
| Gaynor awakens him |
Gaynor wakes him; she tells him he is having a nightmare, and that it is over now.
| "I'll be back in a minute" |
He insists that he is all right, but needs a drink; assuring her that he will be back in a minute,
| He goes downstairs . . . |
he goes downstairs,
| . . . finds a bottle . . . |
takes a glass and bottle from the kitchen,
| . . . pours himself a generous measure . . . |
sits on the sofa and
| . . . and swigs it down |
downs the whisky in one gulp.
