22 December 2017

Garry is quite constructive
Garry is startled when Mathew enters the room, telling him that Dani has gone out for some fresh air.   “This is something I’ve been working on,” Garry tells him, displaying the mobile he has made;  “Do you think Dani will like it?”
"Dani will love it"
Mathew says that she will love it, but then she walks in unexpectedly.
"What's that?"
“Love what?   What is that?” she demands;  he replies that it is a surprise and she will have to wait until the baby comes.
She managed to snaffle the box
She leans forward, pretends to kiss him, but grabs the box from behind him.
"It's perfect, Gar!"
“It’s lovely – where did you get it?” she asks, and he admits that he made it;  “It’s perfect, and I love it!” she says, and as Mathew looks disapproving,
"It could become a family heirloom"
he says it could become a family heirloom for years to come.
"It could be passed from Monk to Monk"
Mathew suggests that they could pass it from one Monk to another, which earns him disapproving look from Dani.
"I have to sort out the delivery"
Garry’s phone sounds;  he says the text is about a problem with the delivery, and he will not be long.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you"
Dani apologises to Mathew for snapping at him at yesterday, and maintains that it is just nerves.
"You're scared to tell Garry the truth!"
“You’re sorry because you’re scared to tell Garry the truth!” he insists,
"The baby is a Monk!"
but she maintains there is no truth, because the baby is a Monk.   “Don’t worry, I won’t say a word
"Not until ther baby is born, anyway"
“ – not until the baby is born, anyway,” he adds, which disturbs Dani.
Gaynpr is waiting for Garry
The text actually came from Gaynor, who is waiting for Garry outside, and demands, “We should go to his house!”   He replies that he went there yesterday, and Elgan was not there;
"There may be a clue at his house"
she thinks there may be some sort of clue there, and did not sleep a wink last night.
"Where's the delivery, then?"
Mathew comes to the door of the Deri, wondering where the delivery is, and Garry says he sent it away;  “Go for a coffee if you like, while it’s quiet,” he suggests.
“Please, Garry, it won’t take long, and you promised you’d help – he doesn’t have anyone else,” begs Gaynor.
"Look, I'll go on my own"
He agrees but will go on his own, despite her protests;  he reminds her that Elgan is still angry with her,
He gets into his car
and promises to phone if there is any news.
"Come over later, Math"
The stranger behind the counter in the café has just served Mathew with his coffee when Vicky comes in, pronouncing that she has a surprise for him.   “Come over later and all will be revealed.”
"Are you sure I'll have the money?"
Gwyneth is sitting nearby, smirking, and asks if Vicky is excited.   “Are you sure I’ll have the money by the end of the morning?” she asks,
"I'm not one to go back on my word"
and Gwyneth replies that she is not one to go back on her word.
Vicky explains what she is going to do
“Once I have the money, I’m going to Tomos ac Ellis to put the bond down – and I’m going to put a photo of the flat in a Christmas card,” Vicky tells her, “I can’t wait to see his face!”
Again there is no response to the doorbell
Once again, Garry rings Elgan’s doorbell, but there is no reply;  he stands back and looks at the house,
But there is an open window . . .
noticing an open upstairs window.
. . . and a convenient ladder . . .
Then he sees the ladder, leaning against the outbuilding, deciding to use it to gain access.

. . . which Garry is about to borrow when . . .
As he reaches the ladder, he glances into the building,
. . . he catches sight of Elgan
and sees Elgan sitting motionless.
Garry makes his way inside . . .
Garry cautiously opens the door, and gently calls Elgan’s name, but there is no response;
. . . but Elgan appears lifeless
he reaches the conclusion that he has killed himself.
Then suddenly he moves
But then Elgan moves slightly, and Garry asks, “Can you hear me?” but there is no reply.
Garry looks at the map . . .
Garry looks at the map on the wall, on which is written, ‘Keep everyone safe’ and the date      30-06-99.
. . . and the army equipment
Elgan’s army equipment is all around the room.
Dani looks at the mobile for the baby . . .
Back in the Deri flat, Dani is looking once more at the mobile
. . . but then is gripped by a sudden pain
when she feels a pain and has to sit down.
"I want to help you, Elgan"
Garry assures Elgan, “I’m not here to hurt you – I want to help you.   Listen, no one has to know about this.
"What happened in June 1999?"
“What happened?   June 1999?   Can you tell me?”   Elgan looks towards the map, and Garry tells him to take his time.   Then Garry’s phone rings,
The noise disturbs Elgan
which startles Elgan, and Garry quickly turns it off.
"We all struggle sometimes"
“We all struggle sometimes, you know – on the outside it appears we’re fine, but we’re not.   Sometimes we can’t carry on.”   Garry notices that Elgan’s hand is bleeding,
Elgan looks disbelievingly at his hand . . .
something of which he seems to be unaware.
. . . and Garry tries to bandage it
While putting a bandage around the hand,
"Who is Tim?   One of your friends?"
Garry asks who is the Tim referred to on the map, assuming that it is one of Elgan’s friends, and pleads to be told what happened, but once more he says nothing.
Dani cannot get in touch with Garry
Back at home, Dani is becoming worried as she cannot contact Garry;
"Come and sit down, Dani!"
Mathew comes in and realises that something is wrong, although Dani protests that it is nothing;
"I don't want your help!"
she is quite adamant that she does not want his help, and flatly refuses his suggestion that he should ring the midwife.  “I’ve had two false alarms already – I haven’t eaten much breakfast, that’s all.   I’m fine.”
"It's my fault for stressing you out"
Mathew blames himself for stressing her out, and promises not to tell a word to Garry.
"You can't stay here – it's time to go"
Garry continues, “OK if you don’t want to talk to me, fine, but you can’t stay here – it’s time to go.   Tim might be out there – if we’re going to rescue him, we have to leave – I’ll be with you,
"Tim needs you – and the others"
“but Tim needs you – and the others – they all need you, please.”
Elgan goes with Garry
Elgan stands up, looks at his map, and slowly walks towards the door,
"It's all right – you're safe"
looking all around to make sure it is safe.
"Where are we going?"
As Garry opens the door of his car, Elgan asks where they are going,
Garry is way out of his depth here
but Garry assures him that it is all right.
They soon arrive at Llwyncelyn
It is not long before they arrive at Llwyncelyn, and Garry manoeuvres Elgan to a seat, assuring him that he is OK.
"Keep away from him, Gaynor"
He warns Gaynor to keep away from him, and in the kitchen
"He was in Kosovo in his head"
Garry tells her, “He was in Kosovo – that’s where he was in his head, anyway.   I’m not worried about his hand – but he didn’t recognise me.   Has he ever mentioned a Tim, and that he wants to rescue him?
"I've never seen anyone in this sort of state"
“I don’t know what happened, but I’ve never seen anyone in this sort of state before.”
"He already lashed out at me"
He warns Gaynor that Elgan has already lashed out, but she insists they have to help him, and not be afraid of him.
"You're safe now, but you need help"
“Elgan, it’s me, Gaynor, you’re safe now, but you need help.   You’ve helped so many people and now it’s time for us to help you.   We’re taking you to hospital, and there will be people there could take care of you.”   He does not make any response.
"No, not the hospital"
Garry maintains that they are not going to the hospital, but they are going to help him;  Gaynor insists that he needs people who know what they are doing.   Garry is adamant that they should give him time, and see what happens;  “After a restful sleep, he might be in a different place.”
"Do you really think a nap will help?"
“He’s carried this for 20 years – do you really think a nap will help?” she demands.   She goes to get a blanket to keep him warm,
He finds that Dani has been trying to contact him
and Garry looks at his phone, finding there are five missed calls from Dani.   He tells Gaynor
"You must go to her – now!"
and she insists that he go to her immediately, as she will be fine here.
Garry reluctantly goes
Reluctantly, Garry leaves the house.   Elgan is still staring into space.
"Go and claim the place"
Gwyneth comes out of Awyr Iach to see Vicky looking in the window of Tomos ac Ellis;  “Don’t look at the photo – go and claim the place!” she says.   The transfer has been made, and Vicky points out that the flat is perfect, and only five minutes away – it is exactly what they want.
"What are you waiting for?   Go for it!"
“So go for it!” Gwyneth urges her.
"You need a sugar boost"
Dani is feeling better by this time, and Mathew brings some sweets, as she needs a sugar boost.
"There are not many perks to being pregnant"
She maintains that there are not a lot of perks to being pregnant.
"It's a nice change from arguing"
He comments that talking like this is a nice change from arguing, and assures her she has nothing to worry about – he has been reading up about the subject.
"You've got no reason to read about babies"
“Mathew, you’ve got no reason to read about babies, OK?” she tells him, “It’s nothing to do with you!
"Please back off!"
“Please back off!”   At this point, Garry rushes in,
"Are you all right, Dani?"
and she informs him that she is all right, just a little dizzy.
Mathew is sent downstairs, and Garry manufactures an excuse that he had to go and talk to the manager at the suppliers;  Dani says that she is fine now that he is there.
Vicky did not get the flat
Vicky appears rather downcast as she leaves Tomos ac Ellis and reports to Gwyneth that the flat was taken just before she arrived.   Gwyneth tells her to find another one, but she says she cannot be bothered.
"What sort of attitude is that?"
“What sort of attitude is that?   You have to keep going until you get what you want in this life!” is Gwyneth’s reaction,
"You won't tell anyone, will you?"
but Vicky is still eager to keep the loan quiet.
Elgan looks around
Elgan looks around the room, but says nothing;  Gaynor turns off the flashing Christmas tree lights, in case they are disturbing him.
"I'll make you a cup of tea"
She will go and make him a cup of tea;  “I want you to know that I’ll always be here for you,” she tells him,
"I hadn't realised things had gone so far"
“I’m so sorry – I hadn’t realised things had gone so far.”
She drops the kettle with a clatter . . .
She drops the kettle into the sink with a clatter, then hears the the sound of the front door opening;
. . . and Elgan is off out of the door
she is astonished to see that he has gone, and rushes outside in pursuit.
Garry enquires if everything is OK
Garry sends a message to Gaynor, enquiring if everything is OK.
"I shall feel better if I get a cwtch"
Dani informs him, “It’s time for her to come out now – do you fancy watching a box set?   I shall feel better if I get a cwtch.”
"I have to go over to the garage"
However he tells her that he has to go to the garage, but will be back soon, and anyway, Mathew is downstairs;  “I don’t want Mathew – I want you!” she moans, “What’s so important that you have to leave your wife and baby?
"I don't want to be on my own!"
“I’m serious, Gar, I don’t want to be on my own – please stay with me!”   He has no choice but to comply.
Gaynor is frantic with worry
Gaynor has searched outside, comes back in and weeps bitterly.
