| Garry is about to get a surprise |
Garry comes downstairs and is delighted when Dani and Britt wish him Happy Birthday. Presents are lined up along the bar,
| "I shall be busy with the baby next year" |
and Dani tells him, “I shall be busy with the baby next year, so make the most of it.”
| Garry likes his T-shirt |
He loves the T-shirt she has given him, bearing the slogan, ‘Number One Dad’. The
| "I've got a lot of surprises for you" |
From behind the bar, Mathew says that he has a lot of surprises for Garry,
| "This app times your contractions" |
and then Garry remembers that he has purchased an app for Dani which times contractions. Britt asks what is wrong with the timer on his phone,
| "It can do other things as well" |
but he points out that this can do other things as well.
“Come back when you’ve got an app that pushes the baby out as well – then I will be impressed!” she says.
| Mathew does not like this |
Mathew regards this conversation with some disgust.
| Sara has a problem . . . |
At Awyr Iach, Sara finds out that two clients want appointments at the same time, and Gwyneth offers to meet one of them.
| . . . but does not want Gwyneth's interference |
“Thanks, but I deal with clients, no-one else,” replies Sara. Gwyneth takes umbrage, maintaining that she will have to start her own company if she wants some action.
“Gwyneth, your Reiki mumbo-jumbo won’t get you very far in business!” Sara warns her.
| Those Christmas lights are getting all round the village |
Jason has come in with two boxes of Christmas lights, which Colin was selling cheap, and asks Gwyneth if she is thinking of starting a business,
| Gwyneth looks as if she is plotting something |
but she replies that the time is not right.
| Garry and Mathew have a man-to-man chat |
At the bar in the Deri, Garry thinks he is turning into one of those obsessed fathers; Mathew points out that becoming a father is massive.
| "I missed a lot when Gwern was young" |
“I missed a lot when Gwern was young,” Garry admits, “I’m not going to miss a second this time.” Mathew asks if he regrets not insisting that Gwern lived with him as a baby.
| "They grow up so quickly" |
“Yes, they grow up so quickly,” is the reply, I won’t get that time back.”
He is going to the garage, but Dani tells him not be long, as she has made lunch.
| "We were talking about being a parent" |
Then she goes across to Mathew, who tells her they were talking about babies, and being a parent.
| "Well, you wouldn't know anything about that" |
“Well, you wouldn’t know anything about that, would you?” she growls.
| Gwyneth is browsing on her phone |
In the café, Gwyneth is looking on her phone at presents for children;
| "The pay at Awyr Iach must have gone up" |
Vicky comments, “The pay at Awyr Iach must have gone up since I was there – how can you afford stuff like that?” She is told to mind her own business, but Vicky confesses that she is seriously struggling.
| It appears that Garry is paying for everything |
Gwyneth points out that she does not have a mortgage, she gets the rent money and Garry’s maintenance.
“I had to spend the bond money for a flat on presents – a fairy godmother might come from somewhere to sort me out,” Vicky moans.
| "It must be nice to have Arwen home" |
Hywel meets Ffion at the door of Cysgod y Glyn, and says that it must be nice to have Arwen back home. He asks if Macs has been making life difficult,
| "I haven't heard from Macs" |
and she replies that she has not heard a peep from him. She remarks that Arwen is not doing very well
| Ffion bursts into tears |
and bursts into tears. “Do you mind bringing Esther over to play this afternoon – a bit of company might cheer her up,” Ffion asks,
| "It might cheer up her mother as well" |
and Hywel immediately agrees, as it might also cheer up her mother.
| "Come over in three quarters of an hour, Math" |
In the Deri, Vicky comes in and wants Mathew home at lunchtime, as she is preparing something for him; “Come over in three quarters of an hour,” she tells him.
| "Focus on her, and not me!" |
“She’s a really special girl, you know – focus on her, and not me!” Dani warns him.
| Dani feels a sharp pain |
On her way to the stairs, she feels a twinge of pain.
| In the outbuilding . . . |
Inside Elgan’s outbuilding,
| . . . Elgan deploys a map |
he is putting up a map on the wall;
| Again Garry receives no reply |
meanwhile, at the front door, Garry is repeatedly ringing the doorbell, and peers inside, but, receiving no reply, walks away again.
| The map is of Kosovo . . . |
We see the map on the wall is one of Kosovo,
| . . . and he marks the border |
the boundaries of which Elgan is painstakingly marking with a red pen.
| "Oh, I was expecting Mathew" |
Gwyneth knocks at the door at Maes-y-Deri, and Vicky is surprised to see her;
| "How would you like a loan of £1,000?" |
Gwyneth, looking very pleased with herself, announces that she may be able to help. “How would you like a loan of £1,000?” she asks, “Enough for a bond, and you’d have plenty of time to pay me back. Let’s say an interest rate of 10% – what do you think?”
| "Why do you want to help me?" |
Vicky thinks that she had better not; “Don’t take this the wrong way, but why do you want to help me?” Gwyneth replies that she has been there; there was a time when she did not have a penny – and it was a horrible feeling.
| "If you change your mind . . ." |
“If you change your mind, the offer is still there,” Gwyneth assures her,
| But Gwyneth does not look entirely happy |
and looks rather grim as she lets herself out of the front door.
| Garry panics when Dani experiences pains . . . |
Garry goes upstairs and finds Dani experiencing a contraction, and Britt looking after her; he panics, and gets out his app to time when the next one occurs,
| . . . but cannot get his timing device to work |
but seems unable to get it to work on the phone. Britt asks if she is sure these are contractions, and not wind. Mathew comes in, and is similarly concerned; despite Britt’s insistence that it is too early to go to the hospital,
| "Come on – we're going!" |
Garry’s mind is made up, and he is not taking any risks.
| "Why don't you let me take her?" |
Mathew protests, but Dani is quite clear, “I don’t want you near the hospital – I want Garry to take me!”
| "Remember to take deep breaths" |
As Garry advises her to take deep breaths, they leave the flat,
| "It's happening, Britt!" |
and he exclaims to Britt, “It’s happening!” Mathew notices they have forgotten to take Dani’s bag, but says nothing about this. Britt is very excited about what is happening,
| "I'm going to see Vicky" |
but Mathew decides that he is going for lunch with Vicky.
| Dani is back at the hospital . . . |
Shortly afterwards, Dani is sitting on the hospital bed while Garry still wrestles with his phone;
| . . . while Garry still finds the app to be incalcitrant |
“I can’t believe this doesn’t work!” he complains,
| "You should have something to eat" |
and asks her if she wants anything to eat, as she will need energy. She says that she has some breakfast bars in one of the bags,
| "Oh – bags!" |
and this is the point where they realise they do not have any bags.
| "What are we going to do?" |
“You only had one job, Garry! What are we going to do?” Dani squeals.
| The midwife welcomes her back |
The midwife welcomes Dani back to the hospital and reassures her that she is not the first to suffer from trapped wind. Dani is quite sure that they are real contractions this time,
| "Er, we don't know how often!" |
but they are not quite sure of how often they are occurring. As the midwife prepares to examine Dani,
| "Will the baby arrive today?" |
he asks, “Will the baby arrive today, as it’s my birthday? If she came today, it would be very special.”
| "She'll come when she's ready" |
He is told that the baby will come when she is ready and not before;
| "We're going to meet our little girl!" |
he excitedly tells Dani, “We’re going to meet our little girl!”
| "Dani went into labour" |
Mathew arrives at Maes-y-Deri, and explains that Dani went into labour; Vicky predicts that the baby is going to make her broody.
| "Now's our chance, Mathew!" |
“And now, while everyone’s out, and the house is empty – there is no one else here – we don’t want to miss our chance!”
He warns her that someone might come home,
| "We've got lots of time!" |
but she insists they have lots of time.
| "We'd better not, OK?" |
“We’d better not, OK?” he tells her, and she is disappointed;
| Vicky texts Gwyneth . . . |
she sits down and composes a text to Gwyneth,
| . . . to take advantage of her kind offer |
who smiles broadly when she sees it on her iPhone, saying that Vicky has changed her mind.
| "I've seen enough of Gwyneth's face for today" |
Sara reminds Gwyneth that Awyr Iach pays her wages, and leaves with Jason, remarking that she has seen enough of Gwyneth’s face for today.
| Gwyneth puts the next stage of her cunning plan into operation |
She goes over to the computer, and begins printing something.
| "I'll go home and fetch the bag" |
At the hospital, Garry says that he will go home and fetch the bag, but Dani forbids this, for fear that the baby will arrive, and she does not want him to miss it. The midwife advises that she has not started dilating yet,
| "The baby is not on its way" |
so the baby is not on its way, not today, anyway.
“She is only practising,” the midwife tells Garry, “They are Braxton Hicks contractions – trust me, I know what I’m doing.”
| "What – this was only a practice?" |
If this is a practice, Dani is certainly not looking forward to the main event, and she apologises for wasting time again.
| "Remember the bag next time!" |
The midwife gives the advice that they should remember the bag next time.
“I’m sorry – I know you wanted her to arrive on your birthday,” Dani says,
| "A long as you and the baby are all right" |
but Garry insists that as long as she and the baby are all right, that is all that matters.
| "Do you need any help with this cooking?" |
At Cysgod y Glyn, Arwen and Esther are playing; Hywel asks if Ffion needs any help with the cooking she is doing, but she admits she is not in the mood.
| "I don't think I've ever made mince pies" |
“I don’t think I’ve ever made mince pies,” he tells her, “Come on – Christmas isn’t the same without a bit of cooking.”
| Ffion is adamant that Arwen will not be going to Y Felin |
“Siôn wants us to go over after Christmas,” she says, and Hywel thinks that he wants to spend time with Arwen. “There’s no point, because she won’t be there!” Ffion confidently asserts. Hywel maintains that there is no point in punishing him because of Macs;
| "Whoa – that's enough, Hywel!" |
“He had no right to tell Macs about Arwen’s operation – if he had not opened his big mouth.”
Hywel points out that if they did go, she could keep an eye on Macs.
| "Not everyone can talk to their ex-husband like this" |
Ffion thinks it is strange; “Not everyone can talk to their ex-husband like this!”
| "I'll be there to get you back on your feet" |
He reminds her that they have been through a lot, and will not forget that in a hurry; he says that wherever she is, and whatever happens to her, he will be there to get her back on her feet.
| Oh dear, Ffion – this is not a good idea! |
They hug each other.
| Gwyneth has printed three pages |
At Awyr Iach, Gwyneth looks pleased with the three sheets she has printed, then Vicky arrives,
| "We want a flat!" |
saying that it was too good an offer to refuse, and that today was the final straw; “We want a flat!”
“Right, sign here, please,” says Gwyneth,
| "I wasn't expecting a proper contract" |
but Vicky was not expecting a proper contract.
| "It's for your benefit, mind" |
Gwyneth assures her that it is more for Vicky’s benefit, so she has more control.
| "We did say 10% interest, didn't we?" |
Upon confirmation that it is at an interest rate of 10%, Vicky is eager to sign.
“Gwyneth cannot believe how easy this is; “Put your name down,
| What devious purpose does Gwyneth have in mind? |
then you and Mathew will be cwtched up in your new flat before you can turn round.”
Vicky begs her not to say anything to Mathew, as she wants it to be a surprise. Gwyneth is very satisfied with her little scheme.
| "The staff must think I'm nuts!" |
In the Deri, Dani tells Britt that the hospital staff must think she is nuts, but now at least she has had a trial run.
| "It was a false alarm, Mathew" |
Garry informs Mathew that it was a false alarm, and that everything is all right with the baby. Britt reminds him that he left the bag behind,
| "You ought to take the T-shirt back to the shop" |
and Mathew says Garry ought to take the ‘Number One Dad’ T-shirt back to the shop.
| "That's not funny, Mathew!" |
Dani scolds him, “It’s not funny. How do you think it makes Garry feel?” He understands that Dani has been very stressed today.
| "I've had enough of your quips!" |
When Garry has gone upstairs, she angrily tells Mathew that she has had enough of his quips,
| "I don't know how much more of this I can take!" |
but he snarls, “I don’t know how much more of this I can take!” She asks him to promise that he will not say anything,
| Dani is very troubled |
and is disturbed by his response, “Sorry, I can’t!”
| Elgan makes annotations to his map . . . |
In what appears to be Elgan’s war operations room, he is marking dates and locations on the map;
| . . . and then looks at it |
he stands back and surveys his handiwork.
