Jason comes home, bringing Sara flowers to celebrate their big day; as he puts bacon under the grill for their breakfast, she asks, “How did it go last night? Any gossip?”

“No, it was quite boring,” he replies, “Vicky had to take Dol home – she was in a heck of a state! I don’t think I can stomach breakfast.”

| "I thought you'd have a hangover" |
Sara suspects a hangover, but he insists it is only nerves; she reminds him that she is the one having the baby, and asks if he wants to know the baby’s sex.

| "Whatever you decide" |
He says that whatever she decides is fine, so Sara wants to keep it as a surprise. Jason goes upstairs for a shower.

| Dai's breakfast was peaceful – until now |
Dai is eating his breakfast when Diane brings in pink and blue balloons;

“One of these is bound to be right,” she tells him, “Come and help me put up the bunting in the lounge.” He wonders why it has to be done now, as he is eating, but she insists,

“They’re coming to a tea party later, and I want it to be all ready.”

| "A lot of unnecessary fuss!" |
Dai considers it to be a lot of fuss; it is not as if the baby is going to be born today, but she stresses, “We’re going to be grandparents – and it makes me feel better.

| Garry is not accustomed to handling crutches |
In the Deri flat, Garry is hobbling around on crutches;

| "Chester said you needed more milk" |
Britt has brought some provisions, and milk. Garry wonders why Chester has this fixation with milk, as he does not like it. Britt tells him that he means a lot to Chester, and thanks him for spending the evening with him.

| "There's no stopping that woman" |
“Have you heard about Gaynor?” Garry asks, “She is head of the new Community School.” Britt answers that there is no stopping that woman, and Garry enquires whether she would have preferred Ffion to get the job.
“At least she’s not a snob!” Britt grumbles, “Miss High and Mighty thinks she’s better than everyone else!

“What are you going to do about staff while you’re stuck up here?” Garry is of the opinion that Britt and Dani can cope, with the help of Colin, but Britt points out, “Colin already has a job – he was doing me a favour. We need someone full-time!”
Garry assures her that he will find someone,

“But not Mathew!” he adds, “I don’t want him back here!”

| Downhearted Ffion |
As Britt leaves the Deri, she meets Ffion, looking downhearted; “It would be nice of something went right for once,” Ffion tells her.

Britt agrees that Gaynor is not the head she wanted; “Pity the governors didn’t agree,” says Ffion,

| Ffion has lost all enthusiasm |
“The way I feel I wouldn’t care if I never went to the school again – with Gethin so busy, it doesn’t feel like a happy New Year!”

| Britt tries to find Mathew |
Britt goes to Eifion’s house next door and knocks, while Ffion walks to the café

and asks Gwen for a coffee.

| "You look as if you have the weight of the world on your shoulders" |
Diane, who has just collected some cakes for the party, remarks that Ffion looks as if she has the weight of the world on her shoulders.

“It’s the disappointment – Gaynor has got the job, as usual!” she complains, but Diane points out that Gaynor has a lot of experience. “I could have done that,” insists Ffion,

“But it’s not just the job – it’s life in general – one let-down after another. I know I’ve got Arwen and Gethin, but we both work so hard we hardly see each other, and when we do, we’re stuck in that flat like sardines in a tin. There’s no excitement these days – I can’t remember the last time we had fun!”

In the hospital, Sara is watching the scan;

“Look at those little feet! That’s our baby, Jase!” but Jason is looking very miserable. They are asked if they want to know the sex of the baby, but Sara answers, “No – it’s going to be a surprise.”

Jason decides he cannot do this any more and walks away across the room; the nurse gives them some privacy

and Sara asks what is wrong. Jason sniffs,

| "I kissed Vicky last night!" |
“I’ve messed up – I can’t sit there pretending! I feel terrible! I kissed Vicky last night! I helped her take Dol home, we started talking – but it was only a kiss – nothing else happened.”

| Sara explosively overreacts . . . |
Sara goes off the deep end; “I can’t believe you’ve done this to me – now! You disgust me! You don’t respect me!”

The nurse comes back in, Sara grabs the photo of the scan and stalks off.

Ffion apologises for wittering on about her problems and asks if Diane wants to talk about what is troubling her.

| "I'm just a silly old woman" |
“I’m just a silly old woman – it’s hard to accept this is my lot in life,” Diane replies, “The daily grind is getting me down. When I was young, I imagined myself doing all sorts of things – travelling the world, “but now it’s over, and there’s nothing to look forward to.”
Ffion reminds her that she has a new baby on the way, but Diane finds it difficult even looking forward to that; “That’s why I’m having the tea party – to cheer myself up.

Britt comes in and finds Mathew; she asks if he would like his job back.

“Who’s asking – you or Garry?” he enquires, and when informed that Garry has broken his leg and is stuck in the flat, adds, “Oh – so I’m good enough for him now, am I?”

Britt praises his performance as a barman and emphasises how desperate she is,

so he agrees, “Let me go and change my shirt first.”

Ffion is still trying to cheer Diane; “Everything will be all right – your life is far from over. A new baby lights up people’s lives! In a few months you can see Dai changing nappies!”

Diane is doubtful about that.

As they arrive home, Sara snarls, “While I was dreaming of our baby, you were sleeping with Vicky!” Jason points out it was a small kiss and nothing more,

but Sara reminds him, “You said Erin Medi was just one kiss too – until I found you in bed together! That’s why I don’t believe you! It’s another reason why I didn’t want to rush into having a baby – you and your affairs!

“I knew you’d do this to me again – but I didn’t expect you to do it while I was pregnant!”

Jason again stresses that he did not, but to no avail; Sara is convinced that she and the baby mean nothing to him, and he cannot persuade her otherwise.

“Get out of my sight! Pack your bags, because I don’t want you here any more!” she yells.

Jason asks what he is supposed to tell his Mam and Dai; “You should have thought of that before sleeping with Vicky! I don’t want you near me or the baby!” squeals Sara.

In the Deri, Britt explains the operation of the till to Mathew,

and then Geraint comes in for a drink;

| Garry just about manages to get downstairs |
Garry struggles downstairs with his crutches, telling Britt that he wants a pint.

Her insistence that she could have brought one upstairs for him makes him suspicious

He hears Mathew’s voice, and demands, “What did I tell you?” Britt answers that his leg is broken, Mathew was available and the punters love him.
Mathew announces that he has lots of ideas to pull in the punters; “How about European beer theme nights?

“We could start with Poland.” Britt wonders what they drink there, and Mathew is not sure; “Do you know, Garry?” he asks.

Garry with a scowl, stresses he does not know as he has never been there.

The party is all prepared; Dai and Diane are waiting, and have been for quite a while. Dai suggests that the sandwiches will be as dry as a bone by now, and it would be a shame to waste them;

Jason tells them that things are a mess; “Sara and I argued, and she won’t be coming to celebrate – the baby’s fine, but Sara is upset with me. Can I stay with you for a few days?”

Diane demands what he has done.

“I made a mistake – I kissed Vicky last night – a small kiss, that’s all!” he tells them, “I told Sara today.”

“Nefi wen!” exclaims Dai, “Have you lost your marbles or something?” Jason admits he felt guilty, but does not know what he is going to do now.

Diane is not understanding, but states, “You’re exactly the same as your father – he did that to me when I was pregnant! I thought I raised you better than this – he broke my heart then, and now you’re doing it again!”

Dai suggests that Diane is overreacting; “You would say that – you’re no better yourself!” she tells him,

“You only had one kiss with Shirley on that sofa, and had a baby with Linda after a one-night-stand! Then you lied about it for years – who’s to know if Jason is telling the truth? Maybe we’ll have another baby in nine months – by Vicky Collins!”

Jason protests that she is being unreasonable, and things are getting out of control. Diane confronts him with, “You can’t keep it in your trousers, just like your father!”

Jason reminds her, “Have you forgotten your own antics? A different man every month – what sort of an example is that? I was ashamed of you, Mam, and you have no right to talk to me like this! I supported you when you messed up at Awyr Iach.”

With increasing animosity, Diane shouts, “You’ve ruined everything! All the happiness the new baby was meant to bring – all gone. Take your bag and get out!

“You’re not welcome here! You can go to hell as far as I’m concerned!”

Jason replies, “All right, I’ll go – and stuff you too!”
