25 September 2017

Sioned is wondering what the future holds
Sioned is sitting quietly in her flat when Gwyneth arrives with some sandwiches;
"You need to eat, Sioned"
“You have to eat something,” she urges.
Sioned is furious that Ed is free
However, Sioned replies, “I’ve been charged with domestic abuse, coercive behaviour and assault – while the man who openly confessed to killing someone is free!   Is that fair?   Whose idea was it for me to go to the police?”
"I was only trying to help"
Gwyneth protests that she was only trying to help,
"I'm not guilty!"
but Sioned is quite emphatic, “I’m not guilty!”
Gwyneth cannot stifle her laughter;
"Come off it – it's me you're talking to!"
“Come off it – it’s me you’re talking to!” she says.   Sioned insists that the truth is that Ed abused her, and put her through hell.   She is adamant that she has been wrongly accused,
"It's about time you faced up to your situation"
but is told, “It’s about time you faced up to your situation honestly!”   before Gwyneth walks out.
"How about a weekend in Tenby?"
Gaynor suggests a weekend in Tenby, and Elgan says that he has heard good things about it;
“Maybe we could have a chance to go on walks,” he suggests, “Your new sticks are here somewhere.”
"I've booked a hotel"
“As we’ve had quite a fraught few days, it would be nice to go away this weekend, so I’ve booked a hotel,” Gaynor tells him,
"A few know-it-alls at the surgery today"
and he tells her that they have had a few know-it-alls at the surgery, complaining.   She tells him to ignore them, as he has not been accused of anything.
The sight of those walking poles makes him suspicious
He fetches the sticks, and looks at them thoughtfully,
"Everything will be all right in the end"
then thanks for her support, predicting that everything will be all right in the end.   When she has returned to school,
An idea forms in Elgan's mind
he takes another look at the sticks, which make him think of something.
At number 10, Kelly comments that the cops are still questioning people, but Anita does not want to hear any more about Elgan.
"I've had to listen to this nonsense all weekend"
“I’ve had to listen to this nonsense all weekend!”
"I wonder if the dcotor was involved"
Kelly wonders if there is any truth in the allegation that the doctor was involved.   Anita goes out for a bottle of milk and a chat with Beti.
"Can I borrow the laptop, Kelly?"
Ed asks to borrow Kelly’s laptop;
"I want to see what kind of jobs are out there"
“I want to see what kind of jobs are out there – it’s time I started thinking about earning a wage, and maybe to look for somewhere to rent.   I can’t stay here for ever, and I don’t think Anita’s happy that I’m here.
"I want to move on with my life"
“Anyway, I want to move on with my life.”
"I'm so proud of you, Ed"
Kelly is glad that he is being positive, and assures him that he did the right thing last week.   “I’m so proud of you for giving that statement to the police.”
"I don't think I can face her in court"
Ed does not think he can face the court case if Sioned pleads not guilty.
"Oh – a week on Friday"
Sioned’s phone rings;  she is told that a date has been set for her court case;  a week on Friday.   “That’s early – right, magistrates’ court.
"We'll have to meet up before then"
“We’ll have to meet up before then – tomorrow morning is fine with me.”
DJ searches the yellow pages
At APD, DJ is contacting private investigators, and is surprised by the cost;
"We have to put Elgan in prison"
“We have to put that Elgan in prison, and we’re no closer to finding evidence, are we?”   He has a couple more private eyes to try,
Dai wants his lunch
but Dai insists on taking him to lunch in the Deri.   As he is leaving,
"Have you given your statement to the police?"
DJ asks Diane if she has given her statement to the police.   She replies that she was busy, but she will arrange to do it now.
Anita is talking to Beti
Anita is talking to Beti outside her house when she sees the doctor,
"I've been sent home . . ."
who reveals that he has been sent home from work.
". . . due to the ongoing inquiry"
“Due to the ongoing inquiry, the partners thought I should stay away for now, and I have no idea how long the police will take.”
He is reluctant to go for a drink with Anita as he does not want to cause a scene;  she points out that he has done nothing wrong,
"Forget what some people think!"
and to forget about what some people think.   He finally agrees, as he has nothing else to do.
Eileen is keen to get to the truth
Eileen asks Ed bluntly, “I don’t know what to believe – but did you do it?”   I need to know the truth.”
"Sioned has peddled so many lies to so many people!"
Kelly angrily reminds her that Sioned has peddled so many lies to so many people, she should not be given the benefit of the doubt.
"Did you push Sioned down the stairs?   Yes or no?"
“Did you push Sioned down the stairs?   Yes or no?” Eileen continues,
"No, I didn't!"
and Ed assures her that he did not.   Then she asks, “And Dewi – did you kill him?”   He admits this,
"The police accept it was an accident"
but Kelly points out that the police accept it was an accident, and there are no charges.
"I'll never forgive myself, Eileen"
“I’ll never forgive myself for what I did,” he says,
"I have to live with what Sioned has done to you"
and Eileen adds that she has to live with what Sioned has done to him, realising she should have intervened much sooner.
"Get Sioned to see sense!"
“If you are really worried about Ed, then get Sioned to see sense,” Kelly urges her, “We want a guilty plea so he does not have to relive the nightmare,” and Eileen promises to do her best.
"There's nothing more tasty than a faggot!"
Dai has polished off his meal in the Deri, but DJ is lost in thought;  “There’s nothing more tasty than a faggot!” Dai enthuses,
"The doctor will pay for what he did to your Mam"
then tells DJ that they will find a cheaper private investigator, so that the doctor will pay for what he did to DJ’s mother.
Elgan is looking forward to a break
At the bar, Anita tells Elgan that this weekend away will be a nice break, and that the town is very picturesque.
A conciliatory text from Sioned
Nearby, Gwyneth receives a text from Sioned;  “Sorry about earlier.   Do you want to meet?”
DJ cannot resist a confrontation
On his way out of the pub, DJ sees Elgan, and cannot resist going to confront him.   “You’ve got a nerve!   I don’t know how you got off, but I know what you’ve done, and so does everyone else in Cwmderi!”   Elgan does not want to talk about it here.
"I want to break every bone in your body!"
“Of course you don’t – because you murdered Mam!   I want to break every bone in your body!”   Anita urges Dai to take him outside,
"Why are you supporting a murderer?"
and DJ responds, “Why are you supporting a murderer?”
Elgan says that his conscience is clear, and that he did nothing to her,
"How clear is your conscience?"
but he adds, “How clear is your conscience?   You know what I mean!”
"You'll pay for what you did!"
DJ promises, ominously,  “If you’re not charged, you’ll pay for what you did – I’ll make sure of that!”
Dai ushers DJ out of the Deri
This time, Anita is insistent that Dai takes him away, and he does so.
Sioned reads up on what she may expect
Sioned is looking online to see what sort of sentence she can expect;  she closes the laptop when she hears someone arriving.
"I've been talking to Ed"
It is her mother, who reveals, “I’ve just been talking to Ed about what you alleged last week.”   Sioned is disappointed that her word was not enough,
"So he denied pushing me downstairs?"
and assumes that he denied pushing her down the stairs.
She tells her mother to bear in mind that he killed someone.
"You had no right to treat him like that"
“Whatever he did, you had no right to treat him the way you did,” Eileen replies.
"I was living with a murderer"
Sioned emphasises, “I was living with a murderer – I had no choice but to defend myself.”   Eileen advises her that this deception is not going to work any more, and it is time that she took the blame and pleaded guilty.
"I haven't spoken to my solicitor yet"
Sioned points out that she has not spoken to her solicitor yet, but her mother goes on, “You’re the one who faces punishment, not your solicitor.
"Give this serious thought!"
“Give this serious thought!”   Without a further word, she leaves.
"I would probably feel the same"
Elgan tells Anita that if he was in DJ’s shoes, he would probably feel the same, but she insists there was no need for him to make such a scene.
"Losing your mother is a big deal"
Kelly comments that losing a mother in suspicious circumstances is a big deal, but Elgan simply wants to forget about it.
Kelly and Ed are going out
Kelly and Ed go out, Kelly is not sure where, probably shopping.
"What you said about DJ's conscience . . ."
Anita is concerned about what Elgan told DJ about his conscience, but he points out that he was angry, and it did not mean anything.   He stresses that his head is all over the place, as if he cannot wake up from a nightmare.
"Only my innocence gives me hope this will be over soon"
Only the knowledge that he is innocent gives him hope that it will be over soon.
Diane is deploying the Dyson . . .
Diane is vacuuming when she notices
. . . and notices the picture of Linda . . .
the picture of Linda;
. . . at which she looks
she turns off the Dyson and looks at the photo.   Then Dai rings her;
"I'm at the police station now"
“Yes, I’m in the police station now,” she lies, “Someone will be taking my statement in a minute.   There’s not a lot to say, is there?   I’ll do the food shopping on the way home –
"Yes, I'll get Bara Brith"
“including Bara Brith.”
A peaceful drink in the Deri
Kelly and Ed are enjoying a quiet drink in the Deri when Sioned notices them;
"I've got to stay away from him"
“One of my bail conditions is that I stay away from him,” she tells Gwyneth, who insists instead on going to have a word with Ed to clear the air.
But she is overruled by Gwyneth
Kelly sees them approaching and comments, “Nice to see you out – rumour is that you’re hibernating until you go to jail.
"I'm so glad you're getting your just deserts"
“I am so glad you’re getting your just deserts – and Ed is getting justice because he deserves it.”
"I'm glad the nightmare is over"
He just says that he is glad the nightmare is over.
"Over – do you think so?"
Gwyneth pipes up, “Over – do you think so?   I know that Ed attacked me!”
"I will tell them about the circumstances"
Ed turns and informs her that if she tells that to the police, he will explain the circumstances to them – that Sioned had just raped him.
"You wouldn't put that in your statement!"
Sioned cannot believe that he would put that in a statement,
"What I put in my statement is my business!"
but he reminds her, “What I put in my statement is my business!”
This rattles Sioned, and she walks away
This unsettles her, and both she and Gwyneth walk away.
"I asked you, and you denied it!"
“I asked you, point blank, and you denied it – you attacked Gwyneth?” says Kelly, astonished,
"And now you know why"
but he says that now she knows why – his head was all over the place.   He is sorry that she is angry with him,
"I asked you to be honest with me"
but she replies she actually asked him to be honest with her.
"She deserves to rot in jail!"
“But she is behind this again – she drove you to behave the way you did.   That’s why she deserves to rot in jail!”
"How did it go with the police?"
Dai and DJ arrive home, asking Diane how it went with the police;  “They just wanted to know where I was when Linda died,” is her answer.
"Where were you?"
DJ asks where she was,
"In APD, most of the time"
and she tells him that she was in APD most of the time.
He then demands where else she was, but her phone rings in the nick of time.
"Diane's behaviour is a bit weird"
When she goes to answer it, DJ considers that Diane’s behaviour is a bit weird, and Dai says that his mother’s death has given them all a shock.
"Dr Elgan strutting around doesn't help"
“The fact that Dr Elgan is strutting around like Lord Muck doesn’t help matters.”
"It was a mistake, not giving him a hiding!"
DJ regards it as a mistake for not giving him a hiding.   “I’m determined to get him in the end – one way or another!”
This troubles Diane
Diane appears disturbed to hear this.
Sioned is incredulous
On the sofa in the Deri, Sioned says she cannot believe Ed said that;  “Me raping him?   How is that possible?”
"He wouldn't put that in his statement"
When Gwyneth doubts that he would put that in his statement,
"How can you be sure?"
Sioned asks, “How can you be so sure?   And if he has, it isn’t true.”   She has a meeting with her solicitor at nine in the morning, and thanks Gwyneth for listening, describing her as a good friend.
"I can't believe they suspended you!"
Gaynor is outraged;  “I can’t believe they suspended you – or what happened in the Deri!”
"It was only DJ letting off steam"
Elgan explains that it was only DJ letting off steam, but adds that something is not quite right with this Linda business.

"I think DJ had it all planned"
“To be honest with you, I think DJ had it all planned – and I fell into the trap, or set-up, whatever you want to call it.   The day Linda died, I was here.   DJ came over, stayed for a cup of tea and helped me paint.
"He asked me to go to Bryntirion"
“Then he asked if I’d be willing to go to Bryntirion.   By the time I got there, Linda was extremely weak.”
Gaynor follows his line of thought
Gaynor suspects that DJ gave Linda the tablets earlier, and he agrees that it looks that way.   “Whichever way you look at it,
"So that I took the blame"
“he wanted me to be with her at the end, so that I took the blame.”   Gaynor looks horrified at this suggestion.
