4 September 2017

Tyler has lost his strategy document
Tyler is in a bad mood, as he has mislaid his strategy document, which he is supposed to give to Gaynor.
Liv slept better last night
Liv comes downstairs and says she slept better last night;
Iolo is getting all controlling again
Iolo reminds her that Greta needs her bottle as soon as she wakes up, or she will scream the place down.
"All right – I'm doing it now!"
Liv irritably replies that she is doing it now.
"We haven't got any electricity"
Iolo turns on the bottle warmer, and discovers there is no electricity, but Tyler cannot help, as he is off to school.
Iolo insists he is going up to the baby
The baby begins crying and Iolo insists that he should be the one to go to her.
Kelly chases after Tyler
As Tyler emerges from the front door, Kelly shouts to him;  “I’m late, Kelly!” he tells her.   She apologises that she has been flat out out at the cafĂ©,
"You don't know the meaning of flat out!"
but he grumbles, “You don’t know the meaning of flat out until you have a baby!   I’m stressed, OK – taking care of Greta is enough, without getting Liv off heroin.”   He hurries off to school.
Hannah waits on the doorstep
Hannah, in her school uniform, is waiting outside the door for Chester;  “Looking forward to your first day?” he asks, and she replies that she is not a little girl, and complains that she has not had a shower, as there has been a power cut.
"This uniform is naff!"
She is also uncomplimentary about school uniform;  “It’s naff!   I can’t believe the sixth form wears it!” but he assures her that she looks great in it.   He advises her to stick with him and she will be OK.
What is going on across the road?
Some building work is going on opposite the door of the chip shop flat.
Gaynor is still sound asleep . . .
Gaynor is fast asleep when there is a text alert on her phone;
. . . at 08:23 on the first day of term
the text from Elgan reads, “Good luck!   I hope you’re not hungover.”   She, however, is completely unaware of it.
"Gaynor will be after our blood for being late!"
Tyler catches up with Ffion at the school entrance, and predicts that Gaynor will be baying for their blood.
"She is going to be unbearable!"
“Especially on her big day – she is going to be unbearable!” agrees Ffion, “I heard that the party at Llwyncelyn went on all weekend.”   Tyler hopes that it may mean Gaynor is in a good mood.
Ffion is asked to stand in for the missing head teacher
Then Ffion receives a phone call, and tells Tyler that Gaynor is due to do an interview with CwmFM but she has not turned up, so the deputy head wants her to do it instead.
"This is not like Gaynor"
“This is not like Gaynor – I’m surprised she didn’t sleep in school.”
Chester shepherds the younger students into the school
Then she asks Chester to get the sixth form to show year 7 pupils to their registration classes.
Liv has been to the surgery
Liv has just returned from the surgery, but is reluctant to talk to Iolo about it.   “I don’t feel any better – it doesn’t work as quickly as that,” she says, and then Iolo’s phone sounds an alert.
Iolo's phone alerts him to the next feed
He announces that it is time for another feed, as the baby needs a routine, or everything will fall into chaos.
"Greta's asleep, Iolo!"
Liv points out that Greta is asleep.
Kelly pays them a visit
Kelly comes visiting, apologising for not coming earlier, and asks how Liv is;
Liv is not very welcoming
she has brought something for the baby, which she hands to Iolo.
"Right, what can I do to help?"
“What can I do to help?” Kelly asks, “The washing up?   The laundry?   I want to help!”
"I don't need babysitting, Iolo!"
Iolo asks her to stay with Liv while he goes to have a shower, as he is not supposed to leave her alone with Greta.
"I'm clueless with babies"
After a period of silence, Kelly asks, “Do you want to show me what needs doing?   I’m clueless with babies.”
"I'm going to feed Greta now"
Liv says that she is going to feed Greta, as Iolo says she needs a routine, and Kelly feels very uncomfortable.
Gaynor is still catching up on her sleep
As Gaynor turns over in bed, Ffion’s voice can be heard on the radio;  “We’ve all been looking forward to today, but I’d like to make it clear that our ambitions as teachers remain the same.   We shall work hard to nurture those skills pupils require when they leave school.”
When Anita mentions Ffion's name . . .
Then Anita’s voice wishes them good luck at the beginning of the new era in Cwmderi.   “Many thanks to Mr Derwyn Parry, deputy head teacher of Cwmderi’s Community School, and Mrs Ffion Llywelyn, head of the sports department.”
. . . Gaynor comes to a terrible realisation
Gaynor suddenly sits up in bed with a look of utter horror, and rushes to the wardrobe, as Anita relates, “The Head Teacher is tied up with other matters.
She grabs a dress from the wardrobe . . .
Gaynor selects a dress
. . . and sprints from the bedroom
and hurries from the bedroom.
"Nothing much happens round here"
Meanwhile at school, Chester is telling Hannah that nothing much happens around here;  Ffion asks him to make sure there are six formers around at break time,
"Chester will be able to kelp you"
and hopes that Hannah is enjoying her first day, adding that Chester will be able to help her.
"Does she fancy you, or what?"
When a group of students link Chester’s name with that of Mrs Llywelyn, Hannah asks if she fancies him;
"Someone at my last school had an affair with a teacher"
“Someone at my last school had an affair with a teacher,” but he reminds her she is not in Australia now.
Kelly unsuccessfully tries to calm Greta . . .
Kelly pushes the pram backwards and forwards, trying to pacify Greta,
. . . so Liv takes over
but Liv takes over and instructs Kelly to make up a bottle.
Kelly makes a mess of preparing the bottle
However, she spills the powder everywhere.   “Sorry, I haven’t got a clue about babies,” she says, “I would really like a baby, though –
"I reckon I could do as good a job as anyone"
“I know I don’t have a partner, but I reckon I could do as good job as anyone.”
"A better job than a junkie like me, you mean!"
Liv is angry:  “A better job than a junkie like me, you mean!   You’re just like all the others!”
“Hang on, Liv, right – my ex-partner was a junkie too,” begins Kelly, but Liv informs her she does not know how tough it is to look after a baby with social services, Iolo and everyone else trying to butt in.
"I might have more idea if you hadn't turned up!"
Kelly shouts, “No, unfortunately not!   I might have more of an idea if you hadn’t turned up!
Then she reveals about the surrogate baby plan
“Iolo, Tyler and I were going to have a surrogate baby, before both of you turned up.”
Iolo has just come downstairs and admonishes Kelly for revealing this;
Both Liv and Iolo want her to leave
he says she had better leave, with Liv adding, “We don’t want your cheap teddy either!”   Kelly runs from the house,
"I don't want help from you or anyone else"
and Liv tells Iolo to leave her alone, as she does not want help from him or anyone else.
"Mrs Llywelyn will call you back when she's finished"
Ffion is fielding phone calls at school;  “Mrs Llywelyn will call you back once she’s finished.” Then Gaynor comes rushing in, looking somewhat dishevelled;
"Where have you been?"
“Where have you been?   Everyone’s been looking for you!” says Ffion.
Gaynor answers that an important matter came up, and asks what was the radio interview about.
"It's not your place to represent the school"
“It’s not your place to represent the school,” she insists, but Ffion replies that the deputy head asked her to do so.   “Why didn’t you phone me instead of taking over?” Gaynor demands.
"You should sort yourself out"
Ffion notices the smell of alcohol on Gaynor’s breath, and recommends that she steer clear of him this morning, until she has had a chance to ‘sort herself out’.
"You have looked better, Gaynor"
Tyler agrees that Gaynor has looked better, so she hurries to the toilets to tidy herself up.
"She had a go at me!"
Ffion moans to Tyler, “She was having a go at me – I was here, saving her skin while she was fast asleep.   I think we should let the head teacher of the Community School stew in the toilets for a while –
"Until she starts to appreciate her team"
“until she starts to appreciate her team.”
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Liv asks Iolo why he did not tell her about the surrogacy, and he tells her they had not come to a final agreement.
"That's not what Kelly said"
“That’s not what Kelly said – she said you put everything on hold because I turned up.   Isn’t that true?”
"It's good practice, having Greta around"
He answers, “Look, Liv, Tyler and I have plenty of time to start a family – and it’s good practice having Greta around, isn’t it?”   She knows they do not think she is capable of looking after Greta on her own.   Iolo admits that he has a tendency to take over, and he is sorry about that.
"No, sorry, Mrs Price"
Then he has a phone call to a plumbing emergency, but says he cannot come;  Liv grabs the phone and speaks to the customer,
"Iolo's available, especially in an emergency"
“Yes, Iolo’s available, especially in an emergency – he’ll be with you now.”   Then she tells him to go, as Mrs Price’s House is flooded.
"You can't babysit me for ever!"
“Trust me – you can’t babysit me for ever, Iolo!”
He agrees to go, but insists that she phone if there is a problem;  “We’ll be fine,” Liv tells him.
The list of pupils having free meals
Ffion gives Tyler a list of pupils having free meals;
By now, Gaynor is more subdued . . .
when Gaynor comes back in, she asks if Derwyn wanted to know where she was this morning.   “I told him that the power cut caused problems,” Ffion replies.
. . . and is grateful that they covered for her
Gaynor is grateful to her, and to Tyler for sorting out the computers;  “I do appreciate your help – today hasn’t been a brilliant start for the head teacher of the new school, has it?   Do I look better now?”
They like hearing that they are a good team
Ffion confirms that she does.   “Thank you – I’m so lucky to have such a good team!” was just what Ffion and Tyler wanted to hear.
When they see the price label on Gaynor's dress . . .
Tyler notices the price label is hanging on the back of Gaynor’s dress,
Ffion nudges Tyler, and they keep quiet
but they do not enlighten her.
Liv cuddles Greta
Liv is cuddling baby Greta when her phone rings;
She does not want to talk to Steve
the caller is given as ‘Steve’ and she rejects the call.
"We don't need him ever again, do we?"
“We don’t need him or anyone else ever again, do we?” she tells the baby.
Kelly listens to the radio
At number 10, Kelly is listening to Anita on the radio when Iolo calls at the door to check she is OK.
"Me and my big mouth"
“Me and my big mouth – I shouldn’t have said anything about the surrogacy,” she confesses, and he hopes it will be sorted out before long, maintaining that Liv and Greta will not be with them for ever.
Iolo says that he is more enthusiastic about their baby
“You’re not discouraged about having a baby?” she asks, but he says it has made him want one even more.   “By the time it happens, you’ll be an expert,” she jokes,
"I'm as hard as nails"
“It takes more than that to upset me – I’m as hard as nails.”
Hannah raises the subject of Mrs Llywelyn again
Sitting on the grass outside school, Chester asks Hannah what she thinks;  “A school is a school,” she replies, “You get on well with the teachers, especially Mrs Llywelyn,” and he wonders why she is making a big deal of it, as it was only children being stupid.
"I thought we were past this stage"
She can see that there is more to it than this;  “I thought we were past this stage – that we no longer kept secrets from each other.”
“It’s nothing – OK?” he tells her, “I did something stupid.”
"So what's new?"
She wonders what is new about that.   “I was in a bad place – we were having problems at home – and Mrs Llywelyn was helping me out with stuff.   I misunderstood –
Chester admits what happened
“I said she kissed me, but she hadn’t.   I was a prat, and I’m so embarrassed about it!
“We’re OK now – you’ve seen how she is with me, but people like to wind me up, especially now I’m with you.   Come on, say something, please.”
"You must admit it's a bit weird"
She maintains that it is a bit weird, saying something like that;  he insists that he was messed up then, but is totally different now.
"I need to be alone for a while"
She gets up and says that she needs to be alone;
Chester fears that he has 'blown it'
she will see him later.
Iolo rushes back from his emergency job . . .
Iolo is hurrying back to the house when Tyler sees him, and demands where Liv is.   “Mrs Price’s machine flooded, and Liv said she would be all right.”
. . . only to receive the wrath of Tyler
“You left her alone with Greta?” roars Tyler, “She’s still vulnerable!
"I'm relying on you"
“I’m busy at school, and this is what you do!   I’m relying on you to take care of them!”
However, Live has the entire situation in hand
Liv appears from the kitchen and tells them to be quiet, as the baby is sleeping, and she has had a whole bottle.   “And I remembered to wind her – you need to take a chill pill.
"We're fine on our own, aren't we, Greta?"
“We’re fine on our own, aren’t we, Greta?   You don’t have to worry about us, and I don’t want us to stop you from doing things either.”
Iolo reveals that Kelly told her about the surrogacy,
"You two are what matter to us now"
but Tyler assures her that she and Greta are what matters to them now.
Iolo captures the occasion
Iolo takes a photo of the pair of them, and Tyler returns to school, reassured,
Tyler hugs Liv as he returns to school . . .
hugging his sister before he goes.
“Thank you, Tyler – I don’t know what we would do without you,” she says.
. . . but someone is watching
Across the road, someone is watching.
