"It's strange here without her"
Diane makes a cup of tea while DJ looks at the empty bed, recently occupied by his mother;  “It’s strange here without her,” he says, “I’m gutted that I could not have been with her at the end.”
"You were there for her all the time"
Diane reminds him that he was there for her all the time, looking after her, and that no-one could have done more for her.
"At least she didn't need the tablets"
He consoles himself with, “At least she didn’t need those tablets – that’s a blessing.”   Diane assures him that his mother deeply regretted asking him to assist her to die;  she knew that it was not fair on him,
"She went quietly, just as she wanted"
but she adds that Linda went quietly, just as she wanted.
"Sorry I'm late, Gar"
Gethin arrives late at the garage, as he has been phoning round, trying to find Liv, but Garry tells him there is no rush to finish the car, which surprises him.   He asks why Garry is in a remarkably good mood,
"The police have dropped the charges"
and is told, “A man is allowed to be in a good mood, especially now the police have dropped the charges!”
Gethin wonders how he managed that
Gethin wonders how he engineered that;  “Not enough evidence,” chuckles Garry,
"Now you're off the hook!"
“And you should be happy too, now you’re off the hook!”
Chester ignores Hannah
Hannah hands Chester some work which Mrs Thomas wanted him to have, but he ignores her.
"It's horrible at home"
“It’s horrible at home, with Linda and all that,” she says, and as there is no reply, she continues, “Thanks for the bag – it’s fab, and I can put all my rubbish into it.”
Still no response;
"I'm sorry about the other day"
“Chester,” she pleads, “I’m sorry about the other day – I didn’t really think you’d stolen the bag!”
"It doesn't matter what I do, I'm still a Monk!"
He tells her, “It doesn’t matter what I do to show I’ve changed, I’m still a Monk!”   She accepts that he has changed,
"Forget about it, Chester!"
and begs him to forget about it, but he says, “It is a big deal for me, and if you don’t understand that, there’s no hope for us — you’d better go!”
DJ wants Diane to ring around with the news
DJ says that he does not want Diane to go with him to the register office, but he asks her to phone around his mother’s friends and acquaintances, and he will go though his mother’s stuff later.
"I can't believe that she's gone"
Dai is sitting at the table, looking depressed;  “I can’t believe that she’s gone,” he says, “I was pondering last night that if she hadn’t come back to look for DJ, I would never have known he’s my son.
"I don't think I ever thanked her for that"
“I don’t think I ever thanked her for that.”
"The tablets – they're gone!"
DJ comes downstairs, very agitated;  “They’re gone!   The tablets – I put them in the drawer upstairs after Mam’s accident.”
"What are you on about?"
Dai demands that someone tell him what they are talking about,
DJ explains about the tablets
and DJ explains, “Mam had some tablets, in case it got too much for her to bear.”
"Linda wouldn't do that!"
Dai cannot believe that Linda would do such a thing.
"Don't worry about that car any more"
Garry pours Elgan a cup of tea in the Deri, and informs him that he does not have to worry about that car any more as the police have dropped the charges;  “The police get it wrong sometimes.   I told you I had nothing to do with car theft, didn’t I?”
"You can't catch Garry Monk"
Jason, who is also sitting at the bar, remarks, “You have to get up bright and early to catch Garry Monk!   I’ve know him for years, and I don’t know the half of it.”
"Had an interesting life, has he?"
Elgan replies that Garry has had an interesting life;  “I know one thing,” Jason adds,
"He's got the luck of the devil!"
“He’s got the luck of the devil!   By the way, I hear you were with Linda when she passed away.   DJ is in pieces.   It must be weird – being there at the end like that, but you must have seen it time and time again.”
The doctor agrees, and says that it comes with the job;
"Right, tell me all about Mr Monk"
then he invites Jason to tell him all about Mr Monk.   “Have you got all day?” laughs Jason.
"Tablets can't just walk!"
Dai is puzzled;  “Tablets can’t just walk!” he exclaims, “I can’t understand why she wanted them in the first place – she wasn’t serious about killing herself, was she?   That’s ridiculous!”
"Well, it made sense to Mam"
DJ replies that it made sense to her, and Diane is sitting silently,
"Did you know about this?"
until Dai asks if she knew about it.   She tells him that the matter was between Linda and DJ.
Dai is grateful that DJ had no part in this, or he could have ended up in prison.
"But does it matter?"
Diane maintains that Linda could not have taken them herself, as she was too weak to go upstairs;  “But does it matter?   She went quietly – that is what matters.”
"You could ask for a post mortem"
DJ is determined to get to the truth, and Dai points out that he could ask for a post mortem.   “What difference will it make?” enquires Diane, “It would only upset you.”
"I have to find out one way or the other"
“I can’t live the rest of my life with this nagging doubt,” decides DJ, “I have to find out one way or the other!
"I'm going to see Dr Pritchard"
“I’m going to see Dr Pritchard – he was the last to see her – maybe he knows.”
Gwen keeps the café clean
In the café, as Gwen cleans the counter,
"The profit figures are dreadful!"
Sara is talking to Jason on the phone about Awyr Iach’s profit figures, which she says are dreadful.
"I'm seeing nappies before my eyes!"
Gethin comes in and she tells him she is seeing nappies on the spreadsheets rather than figures.   Then he orders a coffee from Gwen, and Chester comes in for a pasty;  he ignores Hannah, who is sitting in the corner.
"Good news about Garry"
“Good news about Garry,” comments Gethin, “About the police dropping the case.
"Nothing sticks to him, does it?"
“Nothing sticks to him, does it?”
"But it's those close to him who pay the price"
Chester replies that it is those close to him who have to pay the price, and comments that all the Monks aren’t the same.   Then he tells Gwen to forget the pasty and walks out again.
Gethin remarks that he has the Monk temper,
"It's not a joke to Chester!"
but Hannah springs to Chester’s defence;  “He’s upset – what do you think?   It’s not a joke to Chester!
"What hope does he have?"
“What hope does he have if everyone here talks about him like you?”
DJ goes to see the doctor
DJ has gone to see Elgan and assures him that no-one at Bryntirion had moved the tablets.   Elgan admits,
"The symptoms were similar"
“The symptoms were similar to those of an overdose – among other possibilities.   She was in a coma, but it could have happened with or without the tablets.”
"How about a post mortem?"
DJ is adamant that he must know for definite;  “How about a post mortem?   That would give me an answer – and that is what I want.”   The doctor appreciates that people want to know how their loved ones died,
"It can open more wounds"
“but it can open more wounds.   “It can’t get any worse!” DJ insists,
"If you won't arrange it, I will!"
“If you won’t arrange it, I will!”
Garry is being watched
As Garry walks across from the Deri to the garage, a stranger in a red shirt is watching him.
"Are you sure this post mortem is what you want?"
Dai suggests to DJ, “Let’s go out for a walk, so we can have a chat.   Are you sure this post mortem is what you want?   Diane’s concerned that you’re doing it to cope with the grief.   But I want you to know that whatever you decide to do, I’ll support you 100%.”
“I’m going to find out if Mam killed herself or what!” insists DJ, who is just making a phone call;
"I'd like to report a suspicious death"
“Hello, I’d like to report a suspicious death.
"You've got away with it again"
Chester visits Garry in the garage;  “I hear you’ve got away with it again,” he says,
"The police have seen I'm innocent"
and Garry replies that the police have finally seen that he is innocent.
"What about everyone else?"
Chester goes on, “What about everyone else?   Do they think Garry Monk’s innocent?   Your family always pays the price – you keep getting away with it!”
"Everyone thinks I'm like you!"
The stranger in the red shirt walks in as Chester complains, “I hate being a Monk, because everyone thinks I’m like you!”
"Why do the police have my car?"
The stranger asks Garry why the police have his car, but Garry replies there is not a lot he can do about that, and he does not want any trouble.   “You’re not usually one to avoid a fight,” the man alleges;  Chester demands what he has been doing now, and says he is going, as he does not want to be dragged into this.
"You're not going anywhere!"
The stranger disagrees, and forcibly prevents Chester from leaving;
Elgan happens to be passing
at that moment the doctor happens to be coming round the corner, talking to Gaynor on the phone.
"You're going to repay me!"
He hears the sound of raised voices, with the stranger demanding repayment of what the car is worth, and holding Chester hostage.
“Do I look stupid?” he demands, “Go to the bank now, and get the money!”   Garry insists that he let Chester go.
"Or you'll regret it!"
Suddenly a voice behind him snarls, “Or you’ll regret it!”
He presses a weapon into the man's back . . .
and presses an object into the small of the assilant’s back, “Now let him go!   Turn around slowly, walk towards the door – get out!”
. . . and he is very eager to escape
The stranger is only too willing to oblige, and runs away.
Elgan removes the screwdriver from the cloth covering it and asks if Chester is OK.
"We all deserve a drink after that!"
“I think we all deserve a drink after that!” he decides.   Garry is very grateful for the doctor’s intervention, and Elgan breathes a sigh of relief.
"I shall be going back to Awyr Iach"
Jason and Sara come to Bryntirion to offer their condolences, and Sara says she intends to go back to Awyr Iach early, as she has to go back some time.   DJ assures her that he will be back after a few days,
"I've asked for a post mortem"
but advises that the funeral will be delayed as he has asked for a post mortem.   Jason is perplexed, as he understood that it was cancer, but DJ informs him, “There’s a strong possibility that Mam took her own life.”
Diane looks guilty
Meanwhile Diane looks guilty.
His experience has shaken Chester
Hannah meets Chester, who is looking shaken after his experience;  “Some bloke tried to threaten me in Garry’s garage,” he explains, “I hate to think what might have happened if Dr Pritchard hadn’t turned up!
"Some thing about Garry taking his car"
“The bloke said something about Garry taking his car.”   Hannah replies that he does not deserve this,
Hannah takes charge
holds his hand and leads him away.
"I've been watching too much television"
The doctor is still in a state of shock as Garry brings him a pint in the Deri;  “You looked as if you knew what you were doing,” he says, but Elgan thinks he has been watching too much television.   He has to deal with all kinds of things in his line of work.
"It was just mistaken identity"
Garry tries to give the impression that it was a case of mistaken identity,
"Cwmderi is more exciting than I thought"
and Elgan concludes that Cwmderi is more exciting than he thought.
"You take advantage of good people!"
Hannah marches in, followed by Chester;  “It’s all a laugh to you, is it?” she exclaims, “You take advantage of good people!   Chester was threatened because of you!”
"Yes, he was in the wrong place – with you!"
When Garry answers that he was just in the wrong place, she continues, “Yes – with you!”
"This one's feisty!"
Garry describes Hannah as feisty, so Chester leaps to her defence;  “Leave her alone, Garry – you’re the one in the wrong!
"You give the Monks a bad name!"
“You always give the Monks a bad name – how can I ever be taken seriously with you as my uncle?”   Garry simply points out that he does not get threatened every day.
Chester demands, “But what if things had turned out differently?   What if I was lying in hospital?   You always spoil things for me –
"You told me to lie to Mrs Llywelyn"
“you told me to tell lies about Mrs Llywelyn, not to confess!   What kind of rôle model are you?”
As he storms out, Hannah shouts, “Every time he gets close to you, you make it worse for him!   Next time you’re in trouble – keep Chester out of it – OK?”
"Children!"
Garry turns to Elgan and sighs, “Children!”
"Who gave her the tablets, then?"
Jason wonders, “If you didn’t give the tablets to your mother, who did?   She couldn’t fetch them, if they were upstairs.”
"DJ has a right to know what happened"
Dai brings in a tray of tea and asserts that DJ has a right to know what happened.   DJ cannot imagine that someone came there yesterday to give her the tablets, and is concerned because helping someone to die is illegal.
"I wish I'd thrown them away"
“I wish that I had thrown them away,” he says,
Diane says not a word
as Diane, who has not said a word, looks increasingly guilty,
"They could accuse me of killing her!"
“If the post mortem shows Mam’s death is suspicious, they could point the finger at me – accuse me of killing her!”
