At school, Ffion is complimented by Tyler, “If it is based on outfits alone, the other candidate won’t stand a chance!”

Ffion hopes that they will assess her ability as a teacher. Tyler adds, “You have experience as a deputy – I’m not doing a very good job of settling your nerves, am I?”

| "Tyler, go and sort out the dinner queue!" |
Gaynor approaches and asks Tyler to organise the rowdy dinner queue, then tells Ffion,

| Ffion is quietly confident |
“You should feel confident, but I must be seen to be unbiased.”

| "Beef and mustard sandwich" |
In the café, Kelly brings Cadno her beef and mustard sandwich, then Sioned and Ed come in after their visit to a posh salon in town, where they were prepared for their photo shoot.

| "Doesn't he look smart?" |
“Doesn’t he look smart?” she asks – and then instructs Ed, “You’re supposed to say I look nice.”
Cadno remarks that farmers cannot afford salons, and Sioned responds, “You grumble more than the teachers!” She asks Kelly, “Send the photographer upstairs when he arrives.”

Kelly tells Tyler; “She’s forcing him to look happy – it’s obvious. He’s terrified of telling the truth, and she’s making his life unbearable.”

Tyler simply argues that if Ed is happy, she should stop interfering.

Upstairs, Sioned, who is feeling glamorous, has a surprise for Ed –

she has bought him a new shirt and trousers, telling him, “We shall match like this.” Ed moves the furniture to make more space,

and suddenly they hear loud music outside.

The Penrhewl 4x4 stands in the street with two loudspeakers on the roof,

and Jason is equipped with a loudhailer and placard.

| He makes his appeal to Sara, while Cadno keeps out of the way |
He shouts for Sara, and when she appears at the door of the Antur, he says, “You obviously don’t understand how much you mean to me – if you won’t talk to me, I’ll come down here every day!”

Tyler and Kelly come of out the café; Kelly remarks, “Romantic! That’s the type of bloke I want!”

| "You're making a fool of yourself!" |
Sara’s opinion differs, however; she tells him that he is making a fool of himself. “I don’t care,” he broadcasts,

| "I want everyone to know how much I love you!" |
“I want everyone to know how much I love you! This is your favourite song!” She snarls that it is not, and that he cannot even get that right, then goes back inside, slamming the door. Jason looks humiliated.

| "The other member of the panel is just coming" |
Gaynor shows Ffion into the interview room, where one member of the panel is in his seat. “We’re waiting for one more person – here he is now,” Gaynor announces,

| Ffion is dismayed to see it is Garry |
and Garry comes in with his crutches, much to Ffion’s dismay.

| "If Mrs Llywelyn has any objections . . ." |
Garry says that he knows Mrs Llywelyn, but will withdraw if she has any objections to his presence on the panel.

| "I'm sure you'll be professional" |
“There’s no problem for me – I’m sure you’ll be professional,” she replies.

| "I'm pleased you've put the disappointment behind you" |
Beginning the interview, Garry tells her, “I’m pleased that you’ve put the disappointment of missing out on the head’s post behind you.” Ffion remarks that Gaynor was a wise appointment, and will be an asset to the school. “You were deputy head here, but resigned – was that due to pressure of work?” Garry enquires.

Ffion answers, “I wanted to spend more time with my daughter, and my partner and I were wishing to adopt at that time, but were unsuccessful, and now we have separated.”

| "How can we be sure you will not resign again?" |
“How can we be sure you will not resign again if there is another family crisis?” Garry asks, rather pointedly,

| "Mr Monk, she is not here to be interrogated!" |
and is reminded by Gaynor that Ffion is not here to be interrogated about her personal life.

Ed complains that the trousers are too tight, but Sioned tells him, “You look lush – if you were a model, you’d never be out of work!”

As he describes her as gorgeous, the photographer arrives.

Gaynor confirms that Ffion has the necessary skill set to manage staff and pupils, but Garry enquires about her ability to manage money, as senior management decide where money is to be channelled.

Ffion replies, “It is important to safeguard the posts of teachers and assistants. They ensure that we provide the best education and pupils realise their potential.”

This concludes the interview, and she shakes the hands of the panel members; as Gaynor escorts her to the door, Ffion is confident that Garry does not want her to get the job. “Don’t worry about him –

“I’ll make sure he doesn’t scupper your chances!” asserts Gaynor.

Jason is drowning his sorrows at the Deri, where there is another barmaid;

Cadno comes in and hears that his romantic gesture was Eifion’s idea; “You don’t have to listen to him,” she advises,

“Remember why you’re in this mess – Sara is the one who’s suffering!” Jason points out that he is the one who has to pay.
Cadno demands, “Do you want her to forgive you at the drop of a hat? That would only show that she couldn’t care less about what happened – or about you. Sitting here drinking won’t solve anything!”

At lunchtime, Tyler is back in the café, and Kelly admits, “I’d love to be a fly on the wall upstairs. Sioned forced him to take part in that Mr and Mrs thing to convey to people that they’re the perfect couple.”

Tyler thinks he has the reason; “You’ve got a crush on Ed – you want to split them up so you can get your hands on him!”

She reckons this comment is below the belt,

but he does not want to discuss it any further and leaves.

| Kelly hesitates at the foot of the stairs |
Kelly is about to creep upstairs when Sara comes in for a coffee;

Kelly comments that she enjoyed the matinée outside,

| "It's all a joke to you, isn't it?" |
and Sara snarls, “It’s all a joke to you, isnt it? Jason can kiss whoever he likes, can he?”
Kelly points out that Jason admitted that he made a massive mistake, and that she believes in ‘kiss and make up’. “Either that or divorce him, so he can find someone else!”

Kelly appears in the doorway. “Are you going to be on the cover of the next issue of Vogue?” she asks.

As Sioned inspects the photos, Kelly tells Ed he looks really uncomfortable in those trousers. He answers that he is really enjoying it, and that she did not have to come up.

| Kelly is exceedingly displeased |
Then he joins Sioned to admire the photos;

| "I'm so lucky to have you!" |
“I’ll put some of these on the wall to remind me how lucky I am to have you!” says Sioned, and he protests that he is the lucky one. Then she tells the photographer, “Kelly will help you take your stuff downstairs.”
“As we’re all dressed up, why don’t we go somewhere tonight?” Sioned suggests, but no sooner has Ed agreed than he receives a text from Jason, wanting to go for a few drinks.

just as Cadno announces he has a visitor;

it is Sara, who immediately scolds him, “You went over the top today – this has to stop!”

He explains that all she has to do is to take him back. She goes on, “I know that you love me– you don’t have to prove it, and if I’m honest, I haven’t stopped loving you either.

| "I don't trust you!" |
“The point is, I don’t trust you. Marriage is defined as trust and love.”

| "It was only one kiss, Sara!" |
He protests that it was only one kiss; “I accept that you didn’t sleep with her, but one kiss starts an affair – I can’t forgive you!

“It’s over between us!” She walks out,

oblivious to Jason’s pleas.

His interview over, Mr Parry, the other candidate, is shown out

and Gaynor asks for comments;

Garry describes both candidates as more than qualified for the job. “In my opinion, one excels,” announces Gaynor, and Garry is amazed when she goes on,

“Derwyn Parry is the head of a successful academy in Birmingham.”

| There is an almost imperceptible nod of approval |
The taciturn member of the panel nods his agreement.

“But you’ve worked with Ffion before, she is familiar with the catchment area and the pupils here,” argues Garry. Gaynor however insists that Parry’s references are full of praise, and his results are excellent;

he is exactly what is required for the new school.
“It seems to me that you have made your decision,” concludes Garry.

Ed is waiting for Jason; he tells Kelly, “I don’t know what’s going on in Jason’s head – he said he’d meet here, but changed his mind.”

Kelly points out that at least Ed has escaped from the witch. “I don’t like you talking about Sioned like that!” he reprimands her,

“We’re a happy couple – leave us alone!” Kelly is, as usual, unconvinced.

To prove the point, Ed takes out his phone and calls Sioned; “Jason has cancelled – do you fancy going out for a meal? Great – come to the Deri for a quick drink before we go.”
Turning to Kelly, he suggests, “Your problem is you’ve been single so long, you’ve forgotten what it’s like to be in a close relationship.

Sioned comes in, and Kelly hurriedly leaves.

Ffion is called back to the interview room for an explanation of why she was not the successful candidate;

looking at Garry, she says, “I think I know!”

| Gaynor waxes lyrical about Mr Parry |
Gaynor tells her there were no problems with her interview, but Mr Parry has had an outstanding and various career, and his experience will be an asset to the new school. Garry adds, “You had a lot of strengths, and it was difficult to choose.”

Gaynor assures her that there will be a position for her in the new school. Asked if she has any questions, Ffion replies,

“There’s not a lot of point – I’m not good enough in your eyes, and that’s that!”

The other two leave the room,

“Whoa!” says Garry, “You’re the one I wanted – Gaynor wanted that other bloke – and she was determined!”
