24 February 2017

Sioned is getting anxious
Sioned looks out of the flat window, fretting, “The appointment was at twelve – why hasn’t she phoned?”
"They may be running late"
Ed suggests the clinic may be running late,
"It's not cancer!"
then Eileen and Jim appear, with the news that Eileen does not have cancer, but a harmless cyst.
Jim, who is actually smiling, says,
"The best news we could have had!"
“The best news we could have had!”
"No, you must come for a meal here!"
Eileen invites Sioned and Ed for dinner, but they reply that they will cook a meal tonight.
Sioned actually sounds grateful
When they have gone, Sioned thanks Ed for all his support;  “I don’t know what I would have done without you!” she alleges,
Don't worry – it won't last, Ed
and embraces him.
"Food's ready!"
At Bryntirion, Diane announces, “Food!” and thanks DJ and Dai for coming home for lunch;  “It makes a nice family atmosphere for Hannah,” she says.
"With Hannah around?   No chance!"
DJ asks Dai if he and Diane have sorted things out, and is told, “With Hannah around?   No chance!”
Diane has been at Dai's Pwllpwyna Whisky
As Hannah is suffering from a cold, Diane has made her a ‘hot toddy’, but Dai takes issue with the fact that it is made with his Pwllpwyna Single Malt Whisky, which he had not yet opened.
"Hannah needed a hot toddy!"
“I opened it – Hannah needed a hot toddy!” Diane exclaims.   Dai complains that the thermostat has been at 25 since she arrived,
"I've got less body fat than you!"
but Hannah points out that she has less body fat than Dai, which DJ finds amusing.
Diane hopes that Dai will be more amiable this afternoon, as they are having afternoon tea with Jason and Sara, to welcome their visitor.
"Do I have to go?"
Hannah is not keen to go, and Diane grumbles, “I don’t know why I bothered – if this is what you’re going to be like.”
"Think a couple of cream horns will sort our problems out?"
“Do you think a couple of cream horns will sort our problems out?” demands Dai.
"Two scones, please, Kelly"
Ed comes downstairs into the café and tells Kelly that things are really great, and that he wants a couple of scones to go with their tea.
Who is that, under the umbrella?"
Kelly is pleased that he looks so happy, but someone is outside, sheltering under an umbrella,
She does not look happy
and does not like what she sees through the window.
"We've been summoned for 'high tea'!"
At Awyr Iach, Sara tells Jason that they have been summoned for ‘high tea’.
"Diane wants to play happy families"
DJ comments, “Diane wants to play happy families – but Dai doesn’t know the rules.   By the way, I’ve found someone to replace Dol – she’s just moved into Llanarthur, and is prepared to work for £1 per hour less!”
"I'm glad I made you deputy manager"
Sara is complimentary about this, then DJ reveals that he has some ideas for a marketing campaign for the new stock.
"Ordinary people to model the clothes"
“We could use ordinary people to model the clothes – attractive local people.”   Sara is of the opinion that they do not exist.
"Don't forget me, DJ!"
DJ lists Jason, Sioned, Ed, Catrin, Vicky –
"No – Vicky's not attractive"
then on second thoughts removes Vicky from the list, and suggests they could be paid with last year’s stock.   Jason visualises himself in the role of a model;
"Awyr Iach – feel the lycra!"
“Awyr Iach – feel the lycra!” he smoulders.
"I saw you downstairs, looking very close!"
Ed brings Sioned tea and a scone, which he has heated up;  “I’m sure that Kelly would have done that for you – you could invite her up – I saw you downstairs, looking very close!”
"I'm allowed to have friends, aren't I?"
“Not this again!” sighs Ed, “We’re friends – I’m allowed to have friends, aren’t I?”   She replies that he is not, as she obviously cannot trust him.   “We’ve just had fantastic news about your Mam,” he begins,
"You always spoil everything!"
but Sioned points out that he always spoils everything.   He takes his scone and will eat it in the kitchen.
"Where's Kylie Minogue, then?"
Diane is resting on the sofa when Dai asks, “Where’s Kylie Minogue, then?”   He is told that she has gone for a walk to the village;
"Aren't you glad to be home?"
“Walking?   That’s a miracle in itself!” he exclaims, “You don’t look too happy – aren’t you glad to be home?   It’s difficult to talk about important things with Hannah here.”
"What important things?"
Diane demands what important things he means.
“Everything,” he replies, “You and me, you disappearing, then coming back!”   She wonders why he cannot simply be happy that she is back.   “Excuse me if I think I deserve an explanation!” Dai snarls,
"Have you any idea how much you hurt me?"
“Have you any idea how much you hurt me when you walked out?”
She denies that she walked out – rather describing it as panicking and running away.   When he asks what she was running from,
Dai is careful to keep that whisky under close supervision
she gets up and goes to change for their afternoon tea.
"£50?   I'm not accepting that!"
In the café, Tom, Chester’s mate, attempts to pay with a £50 note, which Kelly will not accept, as there are too many fake ones around.
"Chest, you got any money?"
He has to call on Chester to foot the bill;  “Where did you get that?” Chester enquires, and when told that Tom’s mother gave it to him,
"But she's only a dinner lady!"
comments, “But she’s only a dinner lady!”
"Wanted – photographic models"
DJ asks to put up a notice in the café, which immediately catches Colin’s eye;
"I'm an expert at that!"
“Models?   Modelling is just like presenting on radio – I’m an expert at that!”
"I really need a certain kind of look"
DJ is less than enthusiastic, but Colin, in his haste to get out of the café, barges into Hannah, who is coming in, so that she disturbs Chester’s drink.
"Hey, mind my drink!"
He shouts at her, and she tells him rather abruptly, “Go back to your Mam!”
"It will be really boring!"
She pleads with DJ to help her get out of this afternoon tea thing;  “I can’t stand any more awkward moments with Dai and Diane – it will be really boring!”
"It's the right thing to do"
DJ’s response is that attending is the right thing to do.
"She'd scrub up nice!"
Tom eyes Hannah up and down, then remarks to Chester, “She’d scrub up nice, if she brushed her hair and lost the nose-ring!”
This could be the start of something
Chester also looks round at her.
What a waste of good food!
Sioned crumbles her scone as Ed brings in another mug of tea.
"A cup of tea won't change anything!"
“A cup of tea won’t change anything, Ed!” she warns.
"Please don't be like this!"
“Please don’t be like this – I can’t do this any more,” he begs.
She confronts him;  “How many times have I heard you say that?
"What are you going to do, then?"
What are you going to do, then?   You’re too much of a coward to turn yourself in!”
Sioned unleashes violent blows . . .
She viciously punches him three times,
. . . which Ed tries to fend off
then as he tries to defend himself,
Then she tries to take a lump out of his arm
she is about to bite his arm, so he pushes her away.
Sioned ends up on the floor
She falls to the floor, and at that moment,
"What's going on?"
Eileen walks in, and demands, “What’s going on!”   Sioned whimpers not to let him touch her,
"No, Mam, don't phone the police!"
but objects when Eileen is about to phone the police.
"Don't defend him!"
“Don’t defend him!” roars Eileen, “Men who hit women deserve to get punished!”   Ed’s insistence that it is Sioned who hits him is dismissed.
"I'm so much stronger than you, aren't I?"
Sioned taunts him, “Yes, of course I do – I’m so much stronger than you, aren’t I?”   Eileen takes her to the shop flat.
"Leave my husband alone!"
As they walk though the café, Sioned warns Kelly, “leave my husband alone!”
There is no way that Kelly is going to do that
Predictably, Kelly takes no notice and rushes upstairs.
"What's she done this time?"
“What’s she done this time?’ Kelly asks,
"I pushed her"
and Ed admits he pushed her;
"I know – I was raped!"
“You have to go to the police – women can abuse men, and Sioned’s abusing you!   It’s not easy to fight when someone’s attacking you – I know – I was raped!”
"And so was I!"
Ed confesses that he was too, and Kelly assures him she will find someone to look after the café, then she will take him to the police station.
"I'll go round and sort him out!"
At the shop flat, Jim is determined to go and sort out Ed;  “A beating is the right way!” he shouts, but Eileen regards that as sinking to the same level as Ed.
“He’ll pay in court for what he’s done to Sioned!” decides Eileen,
"I thought things were getting better"
and Sioned maintains that she thought things were getting better, and that he would change.   Jim rages that a coward like Ed will never change.
Hannah is not enjoying it
At high tea in a posh hotel, the family sit around the table;  Sara comments that Hannah has grown, and is told that she has too.
"Are you going to tell us why you went away?"
Then Sara asks Diane, “Are you going to tell us why you went away?”   The reply is that it is not the time – they are here to welcome Hannah.
"How long are you staying, Hannah?"
Jason asks how long Hannah will be staying;
"Until Diane has had enough"
“Until Diane has had enough of bailing me out,” she answers.   In reply to other questions, she reveals that she does not like ‘formal education’.   “When Diane and I go back, we’ll sort that out,” she adds.
"You're going back again?"
Dai takes this as his cue;  “You’re going back again?
"When are you going to tell me?"
“When are you going to tell me?   On the way to the airport – a text from the steps of the plane – or after you arrive?”
Colin adopts various weird poses
Colin arrives at Awyr Iach in brightly-coloured gear and makes extravagant poses to impress DJ.   He has brought various outfits with him, and describes himself as, “A professional!”
"How much does this modelling pay, then?"
Tom and Chester come in;  Tom asks, “How much are you paying for models?”   When told that the payment will be Awyr Iach clothes, he loses interest;  “No cash – no flash!” he says as he leaves.
A quiet little family tea
There is a strained silence around the table, then Diane urges Dai to eat something.
"That sandwich has changed my opinion!"
He takes one bite of a beef and horseradish sandwich;  “There you go!” he announces, “That has changed my opinion!   Now I’m happy that my wife is going to disappear down under again!”
"Right, we'd better go!"
Jason decides that he and Sara had better go, and they will take Hannah back to Bryntirion.
"There – you've spoiled things again!"
Diane accuses Dai of spoiling things – again.
"Do you intend coming back this time?"
“Me?” he demands, “Tell me, Diane – do you intend coming back this time?   Or should we say our goodbyes now?   The only reason you came back this time is that you weren’t welcome there!”
"There's not much welcome here either"
She replies, “There’s not much welcome here either.   If this is how you’re going to act, maybe you’re right – I would be better off somewhere else!”  Dai gets up and walks out,
"Overreacting again – typical!"
and she comments, “Overreacting again – typical!”
"They won't believe me!"
When Kelly returns to Ed, he has decided he cannot go to the police;  “They won’t believe me – Sioned got there first, and who knows what she told them?”
"Everything will be all right, Ed!"
Kelly assures him that he is the victim here, and promises that everything will be all right if he comes with her to the police station.   “You can’t make that promise,” he wails, “Nobody can help me!   What is ironic is that I miss Sioned – she always knows what to do in a crisis!”
"Ed – look!"
Over Ed’s shoulder, Kelly sees visitors in the doorway.
"We want you to come with us"
“Edward Charles, we want you to come with us to answer some questions about an allegation that has been made against you,” he is told by DS Davies.
What is Ed going to do now?
He is absolutely horrified.
