Ed arrives at the Deri Deithio office to find Sioned already there;

| "Mam won't go to the doctor!" |
she tells him, “Mam found a lump in her breast and won’t go to the doctor – says she doesn’t want to upset Jim. I found out yesterday from Colin, and was angry when I went to see her – I walked out on my own Mam, because I didn’t want her to see how scared I am. If I lose her, I’ll have no-one!”
| "We'll sort it out" |
Ed tries to reassure her, “You’ll have me – she’ll be all right. If there’s a problem, there’s a treatment, and we’ll sort it out.”

| "Have you arranged for Colin to mind the shop?" |
Jim asks Eileen if she has arranged for Colin to mind the shop while she is at the inquest,

| Eileen is busy reading this |
but she is busy looking at a webpage on her iPad.

| Ed arrives to see Eileen |
Ed comes in, and Jim decides to go, muttering to Ed on his way out, “You can talk to Eileen – if you can get her attention!”

| "Sioned told me" |
“I’ve been talking to Sioned, and she told me,” says Ed;

| "The whole village will know at this rate!" |
Eileen expects the whole village to know very soon. He continues, “She felt she had to talk to someone – she feels terrible for the way she spoke to you yesterday,

| "We both think you should see a doctor" |
“but she thinks you should see a doctor, and I agree with her.”

| "What right do you have to give me advice?" |
Eileen demands what right he has to give her advice,

| "I've been there myself" |
and he admits, “I have no right – but I’ve been there myself – the period before diagnosis is the worst. I was imagining all kinds of things, and had organised my own funeral in my head –I thought I would have to leave everyone I loved.”

| "I'm so frightened!" |
“I can’t believe this is happening now, with everything we’ve been through – I’m so frightened!” confesses Eileen, but he assures her that he and Sioned will be there for her. He encourages her to phone the surgery now, so as to get an appointment this morning,

| "You don't have to tell Jim yet" |
and she does not have to tell Jim yet if she does not want to, but it is crucial that she does this.

| "Skiving, are you?" |
Kath is carrying the washing basket when Mark arrives at Maes-y-Deri; “Skiving, are you?” she asks. He is concerned that Vicky has taken Nicky out,

| "Vicky said she'd stay here" |
as he had arranged that she would stay there until he returned.

| "Oh, I see – a baby-sitter!" |
“Oh, I see – a babysitter for me!” says Kath, “I can take care of myself! I’m feeling a lot better, and I’ve stripped the beds. I’ll wash this stuff now, and then vacuum the bedrooms.”
Mark has been trying, without success, to phone Vicky, and does not want to leave his mother on her own.

“You don’t have much choice, do you, unless you want the sack?” she states, so he leaves for his round,

assuring her he will check back later.

| "What's that under there?" |
She drops the washing basket, and as she bends to pick it up, she sees a package taped to the underside of the table.

| Eileen announces she is going to the doctor |
Walking into the taxi office, Eileen announces to Sioned that Ed persuaded her to go to the doctor;

| "You wouldn't listen to me!" |
“You wouldn’t listen to me!” Sioned moans. Ed suggests that she could accompany her mother; “She doesn’t want me!” snorts Sioned,

| Eileen does not really relish the thought |
but Eileen pleads with her, so she agrees.

| Really, Mark, what a totally idiotic place to hide them! |
Mark returns to Maes-y-Deri and finds the place deserted; he checks under the table, and is alarmed see that the package is missing.

| "The café was full of mothers and babies" |
Jim sits alone in the Deri, and tells Dani that he went to the café, but it was full of mothers and babies, and he is not in the mood. “I’m just keeping out of Eileen’s way,” he says, “But at least she’s not nagging me to see a counsellor.”

| "People carry on as if nothing has happened" |
He cannot face going to Penrhewl, and cannot even bear being in the flat, listening to people downstairs carrying on as if nothing has happened.

Dan reports that Garry is on the phone, but Dani says she will call him back.

| Dani offers to go with Jim |
Jim gets up to leave, and Dani offers to go with him to Courtney’s room.

| "How much are these, Dai?" |
Outside APD, Kath complains to Dai that there are no price tags on the items displayed; he explains he has had no time to put them on.

| She espies Mark, and takes immediate avoiding action |
Then she sees Mark at the other end of the street, looking for her, and hurries inside the shop.

| Inside, she is treated to a doughnut |
“The kettle’s on and I found some doughnuts,” Dai tells her, as she starts sorting the pile of post on the counter. “Oh – you weren’t just hiding from Mark then?” he enquires. She maintains Mark ought to be doing his shift, not looking for her,

| "So that's why my post is always late" |
and Dai realises that is why his post is always late.
“He had no right, treating me like that – I can take care of myself,” she insists,

| "But I'm not a junkie!" |
“Maybe I took one or two tablets now and again, when it got too much, but I’m not a junkie!” Then she hears a voice outside and sees Mark approaching; Dai tells her to hide behind the counter.

| "I don't see her – do you?" |
Mark enters, asking if Dai has seen his mother; “I don’t see her – do you?” is the reply, “Have you got no work to do?”

| "She's gone AWOL with the tablets!" |
Mark points out that she has gone AWOL and taken all her tablets with her, then he points at the plate on the counter.

| "They call them doughnuts" |
“Yes, they call them doughnuts – want one?” says Dai, but Mark continues on his round. “If I see her, I’ll tell her to phone you!” shouts Dai.

| "You can come out now" |
Kath emerges, protesting that she has not taken one more than she is supposed to; “No – you’d be much more irritable if you had,” concurs Dai.

She offers to tidy up the mess under the counter, but he explains that is his filing system;

“That coffee won’t make itself!” she urges him.

| "Look at this – August 2015!" |
In the surgery, Sioned complains that the magazines are so out of date; “We’ll be here for ages – wouldn’t you have preferred Colin or Ed here?”

Eileen warns her not to start, here of all places. When another patient’s name is called, Sioned becomes more irritable.

| "I had a teddy just like this!" |
In Courtney’s bedroom, Dani picks up a teddy and recalls she had one just like it. “I bought that for her,” says Jim,

| "She was a Daddy's girl" |
“She was a Daddy’s girl and cried every time I left the house, so I told her to give it a cwtch until I came home.”

| "She was very lucky to have you" |
Dani comments that she was very lucky to have Jim as her father. “But when she was a teenager, all we did was argue,” he laments.

| "Put the really special things in a box" |
Dani suggests that he needs a box to put really special things in, that he could take home with him.

| "I don't have to – I've got this place!" |
“I don’t have to – I’ve got this place – Courtney’s room!” he replies.

Dani points out that this is not really Courtney’s room, that is in Eifion’s house. Undeterred, Jim defiantly asserts, “This is Courtney’s room now!”

| "We've been here thirty minutes already!" |
“We’ve been here thirty minutes already!” Sioned moans at the receptionist, and tells her mother that she must be next.

| "I knew you would be like this!" |
Eileen urges her to sit down and be quiet; she knew it would be like this, and that is why Sioned was not told. She wants to wait her turn like everyone else.

Sioned replies, “You don’t understand – I’m not here to give you a hard time – I don’t want to lose you, Mam, I don’t want you to be ill, I want to know that everything is all right!

Eileen is becoming upset when her name is called, to go to room 6.

| "Sometimes I forget she's dead" |
Jim confesses, “Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning, I forget that she is dead – and that’s how I feel when I come here.”

| "You will have to let all this go" |
Dani reminds him that the time will come when he has to let all this go, because Courtney has gone, but he does not want to think about that yet, not until after the inquest.
Dani is getting really cold and wants to leave, but Jim gets Courtney’s leather jacket,

which Dani is less than keen to put on, insisting that Courtney would want Dani to have it.

| "OK, but we go, now!" |
Dani agrees, on the condition that they go, now.

| "Are you all right, Ed?" |
Ed comes into the café, and as usual, Kelly fusses about him, but he explains, “Sioned has a right to be in a bad mood, like anyone else –

| "It's not perfect, but it's getting better" |
“I won’t pretend everything is perfect between us, but it’s getting better.” Sioned and Eileen come in and all three go upstairs.

| "I'm going to see a specialist" |
Eileen explains that the doctor cannot say what the lump is, and has arranged for her to see a specialist. Sioned exclaims, “He doesn’t know how long that will be –

“I want you to go private – we can afford it!” Her phone, left in the bedroom, sounds, and she goes to answer it.

“I have to remind myself that not to take it personally when she loses her temper,” Eileen tells Ed,

| "She always lashes out" |
“She always lashes out at those closest to her, when she’s not coping.”

| "I'll look after Mam now" |
Sioned returns, advising Ed, “I’ll look after Mam now – you can go back to the taxi office.” Then she instructs her mother, “We have to phone today to make an appointment,”

and she even thanks Ed for his help.

Kath and Dai arrive at Maes-y-Deri; Mark demands where she has been. “She’s been with me at APD – came in just after you left,” Dai reports, and Kath calls it the best day she has had for ages.

| "How many did you take?" |
“I know why you’re in such a good mood!” Mark rages, “How many did you take?” Kath tells him she has only had the one he gave her this morning,

| "Count them if you don't trust me!" |
taking the package from the drawer, inviting him to count them. “I don’t trust you!” he goes on,

| "I'm having the day off tomorrow!" |
“That’s why I’m taking the day off tomorrow to look after you!”

| "I won't be here – I'll be helping Dai at APD" |
“Suit yourself,” Kath answers, “But I won’t be here – I’ll be helping Dai at APD. Dai doesn’t think I’m crazy!” Dai leaves,

and Kath tells Mark, “I’m not as useless as you think!”

| "How long until I know the results?" |
Eileen is on the phone, enquiring how long she will have to wait for the results;

| Jim returns, all apologetic |
then Jim comes in, rather subdued, and they each apologise for their attitude this morning.

| Neither will admit what they have been doing |
Apparently neither of them will admit they have done anything today worth mentioning.
