31 January 2017

Eifion is trying to get Jim to help him
At Eileen’s instigation, Eifion is at the shop flat, trying to persuade Jim to help him with repairing the sheds at Penrhewl;  “The cows have knocked down one of the concrete block walls, and Jason is no good – he’s feeling sorry for himself after Sara dumped him.
"No-one's a better builder than you!"
The job has to be done properly, and no-one’s a better builder than you!”
"Letter to be signed for"
Mark arrives with a letter to be signed for, while Eifion volunteers to do the labouring and make the tea;
"Anything for some peace and quiet!"
finally Jim replies, “All right – anything for some peace and quiet!”
Notification of Courtney's inquest
He opens the letter and tells Eileen,
Jim tells Eileen
“It’s from the Coroner, with the date of the inquest!”
Mathew has to hurry to the Deri
Mathew meets Vicky by the shop and asks about her hand;  when she invites him to the café, he has to decline.   “Garry will kill me if I’m late at the Deri.”   Vicky is surprised that he regards Garry as more important than her, and walks away.
"Determined to find a father for her boy"
Eifion remarks, “She’s determined to find a father for her boy.”
"When the inquest is over, you'll feel better"
“You knew it would be in the next few weeks, and once it’s over, you’ll feel better,” Eileen assures Jim, “It has been like a black cloud on the horizon.
"I'm fed up with people saying that!"
Jim is fed up with people saying that;  “It will be better after the funeral – after the inquest – in a year!   When am I going to wake up and find life is a bed of roses?”
"You'll have to see the counsellor"
When she advises him to make an appointment with the counsellor, he tells her, “He has no idea what’s going on!”
"I want you to come to the photo shoot"
Sioned comes marching in, wanting them both to come to the photo shoot tomorrow, so they can have a family photo.
"Everyone smiles happily, is it?"
“Everyone smiles happily, is it?” demands Jim, “You want me to forget my true feelings?
"Well, I'll get out of your way!"
Well, I’ll get out of your way, so you can carry on!” and he goes out.
Mark is now the custodian of the tablets
Mark dispenses a tablet to Kath and tells her it is time they left, so they can find a parking space, but she is adamant that she wants to go alone on the bus.
"You don't trust me, do you?"
“You don’t trust me, do you?” she asks, “Look, I want to prove to myself that I can do this without anyone forcing me –
"Trust me, Mark, I'm going!"
trust me, Mark, I’m going!”
Italian themed evening tonight
In the Deri, Italian bunting is going up, and Garry, from his usual perch at the end of the bar, suggests they could have carbonara and tiramisu, but Dani wants to keep it simple.   “Just pizza and pasta,” she decides, and Mathew adds they could serve nibbles – olives and antipasti.
"Dai Scaffalde would scoff the lot!"
“Nibbles?” demands Garry, “Dai Scaffalde would scoff the lot!”   Mathew has the idea that they could dress up as the mafia, and Dani knows who would be the Godfather.
Mathew warns her she could find a horse’s head in her bed;
"That would make a change from waking up with him!"
she comments, “That would make a change from waking up with him!”
"Courtney went once on a school trip"
Jim comes in for a Scotch, and Dani asks him if he has been to Italy.   “Courtney went once on a school trip – but it doesn’t matter now, does it?” he replies, and takes his drink to a table.
Vicky wants to hold a fund-raising night
As Mathew is changing into an Italian football jersey, Vicky comes in, wanting to speak to Garry.   “Would it be all right if we held a night here to raise money for the Parents’ and Toddlers’ Group?”
"A load of kids running around?"
Garry is not keen on having kids running riot and drinking squash, while the parents talk about Sali Mali, but she explains that Hywel had the idea of a Darts Tournament.
"Yes – that could work!"
This appeals to Garry, who foresees it bringing in the people, if it is organised right.
"Yeah – one hundred and eighty!"
Vicky is jubilant;  “Yeah – one hundred and eighty!” she shouts.
"You can say her name, you know"
Dani apologises to Jim for reminding him;  “About Courtney?   You can say her name, you know,” he replies.   When asked if he wants to talk about it, he quickly drinks up and goes, leaving behind the letter from the Coroner;
Jim has left his letter behind
Dani picks it up and follows him.
He goes to his lock-up . . .
Jim goes to his lock-up,
. . . with private investigator Dani tailing him
followed by Dani, where he picks up a soft toy
She overhears him from the doorway
and says, “I bought this for you when you were born – only two days old – and I’d had the best gift anyone could ever receive.   A little girl – a perfect bundle.”
Dani has reached the door and heard him;
"Aargh!   He's seen me!"
she decides to go, but knocks something, the noise causing him to turn round.
Dani takes him the letter
She takes the letter to him, and he tells her, “Nobody’s supposed to see this –
"It's all here – except for her!"
it’s all here – except for her!”
"It's beautiful!"
Dani describes it as beautiful.
Mark cannot see his mother . . .
Mark arrives at the group meeting, in order to check that his mother actually turns up, but is invited in,
. . . and hopes that she will arrive
and eventually sits down with the other participants, still looking round to see if she is coming.
He appears to be taking Kath's place . . .
“I’m here because . . .” he begins, and looks toward the door again, “I’m addicted to tablets, and I’ve done some terrible things to get them.”
. . . and when she comes in, she hears
Kath appears in the doorway as he continues, “I’ve lied, stolen from my family and it frightened me that I could do such things.   I really want to come off them and get my life back in order, but I’m not sure how to do that.”
Kath is invited to join them
Kath is invited in, and she sits by Mark;
"I'm Kath Jones . . ."
“I’m Kath Jones, and this is my son, Mark –
". . . I'm the one with the problem, not him"
I’m the one with the problem, not him.”
"I feel closer to her"
Jim explains, “Every time I come here, I feel closer to her – I couldn’t get rid of her stuff, so I brought it here.”
Dani looks at everything
As Dani studies everything, he continues, “Clearing her bedroom was horrible – it felt like I was throwing her out of my life.
"You think I'm cracking up, don't you?"
You think I’m cracking up, don’t you?”   Dani replies that if this helps him to cope, then it is all right.   He pleads with her not to tell Eileen or anyone else, and Dani agrees.
"Is my company so uninspiring?"
Mathew volunteers to go down and sort out the cellar;  “Is my company so uninspiring that you hide in the cellar?” demands Vicky, “You said in your text that you were going to phone me!”
Mathew denies that he sent any text,
Vicky shows him the text
so Vicky shows him, and he realises someone must have taken his phone;
"Someone must have taken my phone"
“On Thursday night I was here with Eifion, Gethin and Hywel,” he recalls, and Eifion suggests that is just the sort of prank that Gethin would play,
"I'd never do something like that!"
but he himself would never do anything like that.
Mathew realises that it was him, and does not appreciate the joke;  Vicky walks out,
"There's a ready-made family there"
and Eifion comments, “There’s a ready-made family there – watch out, or you’ll have ten kids before you can turn round!”
"Courtney would be ashamed of me!"
Jim laments, “How is anyone supposed to come to terms with losing a child?   Inside, I’m in bits – Courtney would be ashamed of me.”
"You are getting help, aren't you?"
Dani is under the impression he is getting professional help,
"I've never been to an appointment"
but he admits, “I’ve made the appointments, but not been to one of them.   I don’t want to put it behind me – I feel as if I’m further away from her every day, as it is.
"Here she's exactly as she was"
But at least here she’s exactly as she was – does that make sense?   I tell Eileen that I go to appointments, but this is where I come.”
"You should be honest with Eileen"
Dani insists that he should be honest with Eileen, but he refuses, then she advises him to tell her about the sessions he has missed, as his marriage could become very stressful, and Courtney would not want that.
"I thought Mathew was different"
Vicky confides to her mother that she thought Mathew was different;  Debbie maintains, “Perhaps you shouldn’t have slept with him on your first date!   There isn’t any such thing as love at first sight –
"After four jugs of Sangria!"
except on holiday, after four jugs of Sangria!   If you’re that keen, ask him on another date, to find out how he feels.”
"I don't want him to think I'm desperate"
Vicky protests that she does not want to look as if she is desperate.
Jim's favourite Lemon Drizzle Cake
Jim arrives home to find Eileen is making him a Lemon Drizzle Cake, and tells her he wants to talk about these counselling sessions.
"I haven't been going to counselling"
“I have a confession – I haven’t been going to them, not at all – I couldn’t!”   She realises that is why he never wanted to talk about it.
"Everyone needs help"
“Everyone needs some help sometimes, and I’m here for you to talk to,” she offers, adding, “When I lost John , I talked to Denz a lot – there was not much professional help in those days.”
"You can't compare that with losing a 17-year-old!"
“You can’t compare losing a baby you hardly knew with losing a 17-year-old!” rages Jim, but then relents,
"Sorry, I'd never want to hurt you"
“Sorry – that came out wrong – I’d never want to hurt you.”
Debbie reads about the support group
Kath is home and explains that she will cut down her tablets gradually, with Mark controlling how many she gets, but she would like it if Debbie and Vicky were responsible for some of the tablets, in case of emergency.
"This is a home, not a clinic!"
Debbie points out, “This is a home, not a clinic!” and Vicky cannot overlook the fact that Kath hurt her.   Mark pleads that they all work together so that Kath does not slip back, and urges them to give her a second chance to prove herself.
"You keep away from Nicky!"
Vicky is adamant she will not have Kath anywhere near Nicky.
"One step out of line!"
“One step out of line and you’re out!” is Debbie’s verdict.
"No-one should lose their own child"
Jim protests that no-one should lose their own child;  Eileen replies, “It does happen, and we have to learn to live with it, and cope with our feelings –
"You must get help, Jim!"
anger is only natural.”   He feels as if he is getting angrier each day;  “You will have better days – in time,” she says, “You must get help!”
"I don't think I have the strength to go one"
Jim, however, is unmoved;  “I don’t think I have the strength to go on.   I don’t want to hear another word about it –
"I don't want to discuss it with a stranger!"
I don’t want to discuss my feelings with a stranger – it’s too painful!”
