A special Valentine's breakfast for Gwyneth
Gwyneth comes downstairs after her shower to find a special breakfast prepared for her, and a Valentine’s card.
"I didn't get anything for you"
She feels terrible, as she does not have anything for him;  she did not think that Siôn celebrated this,
"It's to show how much you mean to me"
but he replies that he is making an exception, as he wants to show her how much she means to him.
"Mr Siôn White is the happiest man in the world!"
“I’m going to make a special meal tonight to celebrate you becoming Mrs Siôn White – and Mr Siôn White is the happiest man in the world.   Right, sit down, there’s smoked salmon, avocado and eggs.”
"I should be going to work"
Gwyneth tells him that she is due at work,
"I've told them you have a migraine"
but he has already phoned to say she has a migraine and will be late.   Then she insists she has to get dressed first,
However, she wants to get dressed first
and heads back upstairs.
What has been happening at Maes-y-Deri?
The living room at Maes-y-Deri is in disarray,
Kath sits looking at  . . .
Kath sits at the table
. . . two tablets . . .
with two tablets in front of her,
. . . which are the cause of some mental struggle
and looks desperate.
"Happy Valentine's Day!"
Colin wishes Britt, “Happy Valentine’s Day!” giving her flowers and a card, signed by ‘Mr Bombastic’.   He is given one from ‘Miss Fish and Chips’,
"I've booked a table at the Deri"
and announces he has booked a table at the Deri for tonight.
"Sorry - stocktaking tonight!"
She replies that she has to do stocktaking tonight,
Colin looks devastated
and Colin’s face falls, but then she admits she is only kidding, and they embrace.
"We're going to have a fantastic night!"
“We’re going to have a fantastic night, Mr Bombastic!” she says,
"Oh yeah!"
and he appears to be looking forward to it.
"Hello Emma – this is Dai"
At Bryntirion, Dai phones Australia and speaks to Emma, but finds that Diane is not there, having gone to Hunter’s Valley until Sunday;
He is soon deflated
Dai feels deflated as he ends the call.
Atrtracting the Valentine's punters
Garry puts a sign outside the Deri;  ‘Come to celebrate love and romance in the Deri’.   Siôn passes and comments,
Siôn is scathing about the sign
“Celebrate romance, when you can’t bear to see people happy?   You’re totally wrong about Gwyneth – we have a deep, honest relationship which is going to last for years, so I’d like you to keep the accusations to yourself!”
"Who are you trying to persuade?"
Garry enquires, “Who are you trying to persuade – me or yourself?   You should be discussing the future with her, not me.   But there you are – you must be worried, coming all this way to tell me.”
"I was just passing"
Siôn points out that he was only passing as he has been to buy ingredients for a romantic meal tonight, and warns Garry to put his wooden spoon away.
"Well, you did try to contact her"
Outside APD, DJ tells Dai that at least he tried to contact Diane.
"On a jolly in Hunter's Valley!"
Dai replies, “If Diane’s on a jolly in Hunter’s Valley, on the vino blanco with businessmen from Wagga Wagga, why would she want to contact her husband?   Anyhow, it’s not my fault – as Australia is ten hours ahead of us, she should have contacted me!”
DJ suggests that they go to the Deri tonight;
"Amongst all the kissing couples?  No thanks!"
“What – amongst all the kissing couples?   No thanks!” so DJ says he will cook a meal tonight, then he leaves for Awyr Iach, so as not to incur the wrath of Sara.
Kath is in an uncommonly friendly mood . . .
Kath comes across the road and tells Dai she is having a very good day;  “I thought I would go out and get some fresh air.”
. . . which makes Dai suspicious
Dai looks at her rather askance and invites her into APD for a cup of tea.
"Mam?   Are you here?"
Meanwhile, Mark has arrived home, found that his mother is not there,
Another highly secure hiding-place
and discovers that the box of pills in what appears to be the latest hiding-place, down the back of the sofa,
There are a couple missing
has two tablets missing.   He immediately rings Kath’s number.
Kath explains away the call
Kath looks at her phone and reports, “Someone else offering me thousands for an accident I didn’t have!”
"Have you taken a little something extra?"
Dai enquires whether she has taken a little extra something this morning, as he is concerned.
"I was feeling at a very low ebb"
Her reply is, “Don’t tell Mark – it’s only today – I was feeling at a low ebb with everyone on the radio talking about Valentine’s, when I’m all on my own.   I shall be all right in a couple of hours, and it won’t happen again.”
“You and I both know that’s not how it works!” scolds Dai,
"We're going on a date"
“As it’s Valentine’s Day we’ll go on a date – to the surgery to see the doctor.   I know Val, the receptionist, and she’ll get us a slot.”
"I thought you were a friend!"
Kath protests that there is no need for this, and she thought that Dai was a friend.   He will not be deterred, but urges, “Come on, don’t keep your date waiting!”
"I'm fine!"
She continues to insists she is fine;  Dai replies, “You may be, but this is your chance to prove it to me, and to yourself –
"Come on, shift yourself!"
come on, shift yourself!”
Red roses . . .
In the Deri, Colin agonises over whether he should give Britt red roses for love
. . . or orange roses – for passion?
or orange roses for passion.   Garry is watching him with amusement,
"Have you seen Mam?"
when Mark arrives, looking for his mother, but they cannot assist him.   Then Colin asks where he can put his ukulele;
"Do you really want to know, Colin?"
“Do you really want to know?” asks Garry, but obligingly hides it behind the bar.
"I hope you're serious about Britt"
“I hope you’re serious about Britt, especially after hearing stories about you and Gaynor!” warns Garry, “Britt is worried sick!”
"I would never hurt her"
Colin assures him that he would never do anything to hurt Britt.   Garry replies, “Good – because I know where you live!   Understand?” in an ominous tone, but then breaks into a smile.
"Where have you been?"
Mark returns to Maes-y-Deri
Mark rants at Kath
and finds Kath and Dai, drinking tea.   He is angry and accuses his mother of fooling him again;  “Stealing tablets and taking them on the sly.”
"We've had a chat with the doctor"
Dai points out that she took more than she was supposed to, but they have had a chat with the doctor and it is all right.   Dai describes it as a moment of madness.
Kath tells how Dai has helped her out, and that she did not mean to worry Mark.
"When you fall off the wagon . . ."
He moans, “When you fall off the wagon, you’re not the only one affected – I can’t help you if you’re not willing to help yourself.”
Kath hands over more tablets
She hands over the tablets in her possession.
Colin is very quiet
In the Deri, Colin is very quiet,
He is angry with Britt for spreading the rumour
and eventually admits to Britt that he is angry with her, for telling people that something was going on between him and Gaynor.   He pleads, “I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you, and I’ve never been unfaithful to anyone.”
"I've had my heart broken so many times!"
Britt is really sorry, but relates that she has had her heart broken so many times.
She invites him to sing his song
Then she suggests, ‘Why don’t you . . . you know . . . sing your song?”
"I wonder why I bother!"
Colin is disheartened that his plan is no longer secret, and wonders why he bothers.
Garry has just received a phone call, and tells Britt that it was Gloria from Newcastle, informing him that Neil is in hospital with Meningitis.
"To the future!"
At Y Felin, Gwyneth proposes a toast to, “The future!”
"Who would have thought?"
and continues, “I am very happy – who would have thought that Gwyneth the nobody, the ex-con, and shy little Gwern, would land on their feet?   A fantastic house and a bright future?”
"And a man who loves you?"
Siôn reminds her there is also a man who loves her, and is looking a little dubious.
"One of us will have to go!"
Britt is adamant that one of them will have to go to Newcastle, and Colin points out that Garry will not be a lot of use, as he cannot drive.   “You’ll have to go,” he tells Britt,
"I'll look after the children"
“I’ll look after the children, and I’m sure we will cope.”   Garry also suggests that Dani could help out with the chippy, an optimism unlikely to be shared by Dani.
"I'm sorry for doubting you!"
Britt is almost lost for words;  “Thank you Colin, and I’m sorry for doubting you!”   He assures ‘Miss Fish and Chips’ that it is all right,
Again she encourages him to sing
and then she says, “What would cheer me up is if you sang that song!”   Colin asks Garry to pass him the instrument.
Attracting the rapt attention of the audience . . .
The eyes of all the Deri’s customers turn in his direction as Colin begins his ukulele-accompanied love song;
. . . Colin begins crooning
You’re my sugar lump, in a cup and saucer,
Pure grapes in wine from Beaujolais;
There’s no-one prettier around here;
Our hearts are joined together;
Oh, Britt, I love you more than anything!
Like the flowers in gardens,
Your smile always gladdens;
Oh, Britt, I love you more than anything!
"I've loved you for a long time"
Siôn waxes lyrical at Y Felin;  “If anyone told me I’d fall in love again so deeply, I’d have thought them crazy, but the truth of the matter is that I’ve loved you for a long time.
"When we kissed in Bethania"
I know exactly the moment when I realised it – when we kissed in Bethania a few years ago.”
He then asks when she knew,
Gwyneth is very non-specific
but she prevaricates that there was no precise moment, as it just happened.
"But you don't remember when?"
Siôn recalls, “It hit me, just like a vision!   But you don’t remember when?”
Gwyneth decides it is time she changed the subject and suggests that they clear up;
"Then we can have an early night"
“Then we can have an early night.”
Is Siôn finally starting to realise?
However, Siôn looks pensive.
