| Tyler is optimistic . . . |
Tyler meets Ffion in school, and is remarkably optimistic about his interview for the head of technology post, which is in an hour;
| . . . but Ffion is less confident |
Ffion is less confident about her interview, only fifteen minutes away, but Tyler assures her she could do the job in her sleep.
| Gethin brings her lunchbox |
Gethin arrives, bringing Ffion’s lunchbox which she had forgotten,
| "They're just going through the motions" |
and also tells her that the interview is a mere formality; Ffion considers that she has a much better chance of success than Tyler.
| Gossip about Ed's suicide |
Outside the shop, Eifion comments that Ed must have had it on his conscience, and Sara comments, “You think you know someone – but you never know, do you?”
Then Cadno has her say, “And to kill himself after everything he did to Sioned . . .”
| Kelly objects most strongly |
Kelly has just come out of the shop and heard these remarks; she objects most strongly to what they said.
| "I've got the evidence – I just can't find it!" |
“Sioned is the selfish one, and you’re too stupid to see it!” she snarls, then adds, to Gwyneth, “Why can’t people see the truth, Gwyn?” Gwyneth replies that without evidence, no-one knows what to believe. Kelly shouts, “I’ve got the evidence – I just cant flipping find it!”
| "We haven't sold any noodles for ages" |
In the shop flat, Jim suggests that they should do a stocktake as they have not sold any noodles for weeks; then he sees Sioned sitting there gloomily, and wants to go for a walk, or a spin to the seaside.
| "You have to start facing people" |
When he goes back down to the shop, Eileen tells Sioned, “I know how much of a shock you’ve had, but you have to start facing people – or Ed will have won!
| "It will be quiet in the Deri" |
“How about going to the Deri for a cuppa later? It will be quiet in there this afternoon.”
| Jason orders Sara's lunch |
Jason comes into the café and orders from Gwen a cheese and coleslaw sandwich and a takeaway Americano for Sara;
| "Sara was a bit hasty" |
then he goes over and apologises to Kelly for Sara’s comments about Ed.
| "I've got proof!" |
Kelly replies, “She should have been ashamed for betraying Ed – Sioned was abusing him, and I’ve got proof!”
| "Well, let's see it, then" |
Jason wants to see this proof, but she explains the snag; “I can’t, because Auntie Anita has taken my phone – she thinks I’m too involved.” Kelly is overcome with emotion as she goes on, “He’s dead! It’s her fault, and all I want is for the truth to come out – even you don’t believe me!”
| "Why can't people see the truth?" |
Jason puts his arm round her shoulder as she pleads, “Why can’t people see the truth?”
| Paranoid Sara happens to be passing |
Unfortunately, Sara happens to be passing as this happens.
| Sara seems unconcerned about the support group |
Sara continues to Awyr Iach, where Cadno asks her how the support group meeting went; she also enquires if everything is all right.
| "Was it hard to trust Eifion again?" |
“Was it hard to trust Eifion after he was unfaithful to you?” asks Sara, “Weren’t you worried that he’d do the same again.”
Cadno deduces that she suspects Jason,
| "You need to be careful" |
and advises, “If you don’t have any concrete evidence, you need to be careful. Sometimes these things only happen in our heads, but if you can’t give someone a second chance, there’s no point!”
| "One cheese and coleslaw sandwich!" |
Then Jason arrives with her sandwich and coffee, but suddenly realises he has forgotten the cinnamon swirl, so rushes off again.
| "Eifion has never bought me one of those!" |
Cadno sighs, “I don’t think Eifion has ever bought me one of those.”
| Sioned ventures out . . . |
Eileen, Sioned and Jim walk up the alley on their way to the Deri; Kelly sees from inside the café and goes out.
| . . . and Jason pre-empts a confrontation with Kelly |
Before she can confront them, Jason shouts to her, so she changes direction, instead going home to number 10.
| She goes through coat pockets . . . |
She calls for Anita, and finding she is in the shower, searches through coat pockets and her handbag,
| . . . and Anita's handbag |
finally locating the missing phone. She dashes out of the house.
| Ffion does not look any more hopeful |
Back at school, the interviews are over, and Tyler thinks he has a very good chance, boasting that they seemed open to having a young person. “Don’t get your hopes up – I’ve made that mistake,” warns Ffion,
| "It's not a nice feeling when you find you're wrong" |
“It’s not a nice feeling when you find you’re wrong.”
| Everyone commiserates with Sioned |
In the Deri, various people are commiserating with Sioned;
| "Words are never enough, are they, Gwyn?" |
Eifion tells her, “Words are never enough at a time like this, are they Gwyn?” Gwyneth shakes her head.
| "Stop acting the grieving widow!" |
Kelly marches in and confronts Sioned; “Stop acting the grieving widow – because this is all your fault!
| "You pushed Ed into suicide!" |
“You pushed Ed into suicide after months of mental and physical abuse!”
| "You can't say things like that!" |
This infuriates Eileen, who insists, “You can’t march in here, saying things like that! He did that to her, and killed himself because he nearly killed her!”
| They all listen intently to Kelly |
Kelly goes on, “He found her at the bottom of the stairs when he came in – he ran away because he knew he’d get the blame. He also know that you all thought he was abusing her – but it was the other way round – wasn’t it, Sioned? I can prove it now!”
| "How do you explain these bruises?" |
She holds up her phone for all the pub customers to see; “How do you explain these bruises? I took these photos a few days after the attack – I knew you were abusing him!”
| "Probably the rugby pitch" |
Sioned, who has been silent until now, suggests they probably occurred on the rugby pitch, but Eifion interrupts, “He hasn’t played rugby for months!”
| "Exactly – Sioned stopped him!" |
“Exactly!” Kelly says, “Sioned stopped him! So how did he get the bruises? Tell the truth!”
| "It's nothing to do with me" |
Sioned mumbles that the bruises are nothing to do with her and walks out of the Deri, followed by Eileen and Jim.
| "I wasn't expecting that!" |
“Well, I wasn’t expecting that!” comments Eifion.
| "You didn't do anything to Ed – did you?" |
Back in the shop flat, Eileen tells Sioned, “You didn’t have to run away like that. You didn’t do anything to Ed – did you?” Sioned sniffles, but says not a word.
| "I owe you an apology, Kelly" |
Astounded, Tyler admits that he should have believed Kelly ages ago, but wonders, “If Ed didn’t do it, who did?”
| "He could have just lashed out" |
Gwyneth points out that it is still possible Ed did push Sioned; if she had been hitting him for months, it would be understandable for him to lash out, and the pictures do not prove anything.
Kelly tells them, “I thought that maybe he flipped,
| "He was terrified of Sioned!" |
“but the truth is he was not capable of hurting Sioned – he was terrified of her. I think it was a burglary gone wrong, as I lost the café keys that day, then later I found them under a table where I had already searched for them – it’s too much of a coincidence!”
| "That's rather far-fetched" |
Gwyneth describes this as ‘far-fetched’,
| "It was not Ed who pushed her" |
but Kelly again insists that it was not Ed who pushed her.
| "You don't just start hitting someone" |
Eileen is adamant that one does not just start to hit someone for no reason,
| "Everything was perfect . . . until he slept with Angela!" |
so Sioned explains, “Everything was great between us – it was perfect – I was looking forward to marrying him so much. Then he slept with Angela, and that was it! Everything changed – he spoilt everything – what he did was wrong!”
| "What you did was wrong!" |
Eileen points out that what she did was also wrong, and asks how many times Sioned has hit him.
Sioned replies that she does not know, and when Eileen demands if Ed ever hurt her at all, she will not answer.
| "He hadn't done anything wrong!" |
Eileen furiously adds, “How many times did you let me plead with you to go to the police? Or let me tell everyone what kind of brute he was, when all the time it was you? He hadn’t done anything wrong!” Sioned mutters that she is sorry, but her mother shouts, “It’s a bit late for that!”
| "You should have seen Sioned's face!" |
In the Deri, Jason tells Sara, “You should have seen Sioned’s face – she didn’t know where to look, but it raises all kinds of questions about the attack.” He is now going into town, but carelessly leaves his phone behind,
| Sara's paranoia is fuelled further |
and when a text message arrives, Sara sees that it is from Kelly thanking him for being there for him today; she looks suspicious.
| "We can celebrate tonight!" |
At school, Gethin congratulates Ffion; “I knew you’d get it!” he tells her, and reveals that the searches on the house came back today, so they can celebrate.
| "You're looking at the new head of technology!" |
Then Tyler comes swaggering up to advise them they are looking at the new head of technology.
| He confesses he owes it all to Ffion |
He admits, “I wouldn’t have got it without your help, Ffion – I’ll bring a bouquet over at the weekend!”
| "He'll have a shock when he sees the workload" |
Ffion predicts tht he will have a shock when he realises the workload the job entails.
| "No wonder he did what he did!" |
Eileen tells Sioned, “I understand what you meant the other day when you said you’re responsible for his death – no wonder he did what he did! Did you ever stop to think that what you were doing was wrong?
| "I did it because I loved Ed!" |
Sioned whines, “I did it because I loved Ed – it’s true, and I still love him!” Her mother points out that is not the way you treat people you love.
| Eileen tells her, in no uncertain terms, to get out |
Jim comes back in as Eileen orders Sioned, “Get out of my sight, will you? Now!” and Sioned leaves, without a word.
| "Are you for real, Sara?" |
Sara goes to confront Kelly, who demands, “Do you seriously think that something’s going on between me and Jason? Are you for real?”
| "I saw you hugging in the café!" |
Sara cites the text she sent him, and the fact that they were hugging in the café.
| "I was thanking him for being a good mate" |
“I was thanking him for being a good mate, and intended to buy him a pint to show my appreciation,” Kelly explains.
Sara says that as they are soon to have a baby, Kelly should stay away from Jason.
| "It's not my style!" |
“I’m not in the habit of having affairs with married men – it’s not my style!” Kelly emphasises, “You’ve got no cause for concern!”
| Sioned hurries back to her flat . . . |
They see Sioned, clattering the road
| . . . through the café door |
and rushing into the café;
| She sobs into Ed's jacket |
upstairs in the flat, she sobs into Ed’s jacket.
