Linda sits in the garden
Linda is relaxing in the garden at Bryntirion, and DJ brings a tray,
"Breakfast fit for a queen!"
telling her, “Here you are – a breakfast fit for a king – or a queen!   You should put your feet up today, after partying like a youngster.”   She says she enjoyed being out with her friends, and reprimands him for being angry with Diane.
“The garden is lovely – it’s a shame there aren’t any roses,” she tells him, “I love pink roses.”
"Where's my salt and pepper?"
Just then, Dai comes stomping out, wanting to know where the salt and pepper are, as he wants to put them on his egg.
"Everyone else may have forgiven you . . ."
Seeing her breakfast spread out before her, Dai grumbles, “Everyone else may have forgiven you for stealing that money . . .”   DJ stops him, accusing him of being unfair,
"How about planting some roses?"
and suggests planting roses in the garden.
“Leave my flower beds alone,” shouts Dai, and returns to his breakfast, followed by DJ,
"Look, she's ill!"
who remonstrates with him, pointing out that his Mam is ill.
"And that excuses everything?"
“Oh, that excuses everything, does it?” is Dai’s response, “I would never steal, whether I was dying or not.”
“She is dying – and what’s wrong with planting roses, if it makes her happy?” DJ demands.
"I'm fed up with her taking over"
Dai answers that he is fed up with her taking over in the house, without throwing her weight around out there as well.   “Sometimes I wish it were you who was ill!” snarls DJ.
Siôn hears some unwelcome news
Siôn is on the phone, finding out the legal position;  “So it is her legal entitlement to claim half the house, although she disappeared months ago?”   Gwyneth comes downstairs, and tells Macs that they have work to do.
Then he sees that Macs is wearing his dressing gown
Siôn takes exception when he sees Macs wearing his dressing gown.
Gwyneth decides she wants to move the furniture,
"I can do what I like!"
and taunts Siôn, “You heard what the solicitor said – I can do what I like!”
Iolo is shocked to see Macs
Iolo walks in, and is surprised to see his brother.    “We live here now!” Gwyneth informs him, “As I own half the place, there’s no point paying rent elsewhere.”   Iolo finds it hard to believe that she and Macs are a couple.
Siôn complains that they have thrown him out of his bedroom, and disrespected his stuff,
Gwyneth crows about owning half the house
but again Gwyneth stresses she can do whatever she likes, and she owns half the house.
"You're crazy!"
Iolo describes her as crazy, and walks out, followed by Macs.
"Iolo, aren't you pleased to see me?"
In the garden, Macs calls to Iolo, asking if he is not pleased to see his brother.
"Why are you treating Dad like this?"
“Why are you treating Dad like this?” Iolo demands,
"It's exactly what he deserves!"
and Macs points out it is exactly what he deserves, accusing Iolo of being brainwashed, and of turning his back on Macs.
"The problem is you won't help yourself"
“You cut yourself out of the family – you hurt so many people!” Iolo replies, “I came to see you, phoned you, but the problem is you won’t help yourself.   Do you know what you did to Cadno and Eifion, when you took Arthur?   You haven’t tried to make amends – you carried on living your selfish life!   I’ve done everything I can to help this family.
Macs does not like these home truths
“Now you’ve turned up with a woman who is as selfish and crazy as you!   You have no idea what she did to Dad – so no, I’m not pleased to see you!
"I don't want anything to do with her – or you!"
“I don’t want anything to do with her – or you.”
Linda is sleeping . . .
Dai brings Linda a cup of tea;  she is asleep,
. . . which Dai misinterprets as something else
and he panics that she is dead.
"You thought I'd kicked the bucket!"
She laughs when she sees how pale he has become;  “You thought I’d kicked the bucket!”   Looking into her cup,
"Is there arsenic in this tea?"
she asks, “Is there arsenic in this?”   He cannot understand how she can be so light-hearted,
"It's either that or crying all day"
but she explains it is either that or crying all day, and she knows which one she prefers.
"You're welcome to sit down"
“You’re welcome to sit down – it is your garden, after all,” she tells him, and admits that she is really sorry for stealing the money.
"There's more to life than money"
His answer is that there is more to life than money, but when he gets angry and loses his temper, he opens his mouth
"Before putting this in gear!"
before putting his brain in gear.
“As DJ said, who’s to say I wouldn’t have done the same?” Dai says,
"DJ loves his Dad"
and she assures him that DJ loves his Dad, although Dai replies that
"It's not very solid at the moment"
their relationship is not very solid at the moment.
"We've had some dodgy times over the years"
“He and I had some dodgy times over the years as well,” Linda says, but Dai points out they have history and memories – but he does not have anything like that.
"I've missed out on so much"
He feels that he has missed out on so much and is very jealous of Linda.
"You two have years ahead of you"
She reminds him that they have many years ahead of them.
Cadno is preparing the Deri vegetable order . . .
Cadno is packing vegetables for the Deri,
. . . when she gets a considerable shock
when Macs suddenly walks into the kitchen at Penrhewl;  she shouts for Eifion,
Eifion looks as if he will resort to physical violence
who demands, “What the hell do you want here?”   Macs replies that he does not want to cause trouble, but to apologise for what he did to Arthur and to them.   He stresses that he is sorry, but he was ill.
“If you want forgiveness, you’ll be disappointed!” roars Eifion,
"Right, you've said it – now go!"
“You’ve said it – now go!”   As Macs makes his way to the door, Cadno asks why he is apologising now, and he tells her he is moving back to Cwmderi to live.
Macs has experienced another lack of welcome
“Good luck with that – you’re not welcome here!” Eifion warns him.
Linda relates the incident with the 12-bore cartridge
In the garden at Bryntirion, Linda recalls when DJ, as a child, threw a 12-bore cartridge on the fire – everything in the room was black, but DJ said, “It wasn’t me, Mam, honest!”
"What colour roses do you want?"
Dai reaches a conclusion;  “Right, what colour roses do you want?” but she points out that she will not be here to see them bloom,
"Just promise to look after DJ"
and asks Dai to promise he will look after DJ when she has gone.
DJ finds that peace has broken out
DJ appears and is surprised to find them speaking in a civil fashion.
Dai tells him, “Look, I’d like to apologise for everything over the last few weeks.
Linda and Dai now understand each other
“Your mother and I have had a chat and we understand each other.”
"Sorry for what I said this morning"
DJ, in turn, apologises for what he said this morning.
"Things are going to be very different from now on!"
Dai insists that things are going to be very different there from now on.
Gaynor meets Elgan in the Deri . . .
Gaynor meets Elgan in the Deri;
. . . but then notices Macs . . .
when she suddenly notices Macs, she appears very shocked.   Then Ffion joins them,
. . . and notifies Ffion
and is informed, “Macs is here!”
"You can't come and see Arwen!"
She goes over and tells him that he cannot see Arwen;  “The last thing she needs is you trying to mess up her life,”
"I don't want to, Ffion"
but he answers that he does not want to see her.
"Just stay away from us!"
Ffion warns him to stay away, and decides she will be going home for lunch instead.
"Who is he, then?"
Elgan asks who that man is;  Gaynor leads him to a table far away from Macs.
Gwyneth is still looking very gleeful
Iolo arrives at Y Felin, and Gwyneth advises Siôn that his favourite son is here,
"I'll let you discuss tactics"
then she asks if they want some privacy to discuss tactics.
"There's nothing I can do!"
Siôn says that seeing those two together makes him sick, but what is he going to do.   “I’ve spoken to my solicitor, and theres nothing I can do.   Her name is still on the deeds, so she has every right to be here.
"I've been such a fool!"
“I’ve been such a fool!”
"You can say that again, Dad!"
Iolo agrees wholeheartedly with this evaluation.
"Macs enjoys seeing me suffer"
“Yes, I know you tried to tell me – but Macs enjoys seeing me suffer as much as her,” Siôn laments.   He asks Iolo to come and stay, as he is going crazy there,
"Sorry, Dad, we're going away"
but Iolo and Tyler are going away for a long weekend.
Gwyneth grins in a self-satisfied manner
Siôn looks round, and sees Gwyneth, smirking at him from the doorway.
"There's more to this than 'a former teacher', isn't there?"
In the Deri, Elgan comes to the conclusion, “There is obviously more to it than that he used to be a maths teacher at Ysgol y Mynach.”
"We had . . . 'a bit of a fling'"
Gaynor admits that they had ‘a bit of a fling’ at a difficult time for her, when she was about to marry Hywel, and she is not at all proud of it.   In fact, she finds it hard to believe that she did such thing.
"Well, we've all got a history"
Elgan consoles her that they all have a history;
Macs is about to leave the Deri
then Macs leaves the Deri, just as Gethin comes in.
"Was that Macs White?"
“Was that Macs White?” he demands, and Gaynor confirms that it was, but he should not worry, as Ffion has already had a word with him.
"Anything unusual happen today?"
When Gethin arrives home at Cysgod y Glyn, he asks Ffion how her morning went,
"No, I don't think so"
and whether anything unexpected happened.
"You weren't going to tell me Macs is back"
“You weren’t going to tell me that Macs is back, were you?   Don’t you think I have a right to know?   I’m as good as a father to Arwen.”
"You weren't very fatherly"
She confronts him, saying, “Oh really?   You weren’t very fatherly when you locked up Moc and tortured him – you wouldn’t be much of a father in prison.
His treatment of Moc is still a very sore topic
“Don’t lecture me!   You don’t have a leg to stand on.”
"Your father is a good gardener|
Gwyneth has picked some flowers, and admits that Macs’ father is a good gardener;  Macs is rather subdued, and is under the impression his father is still hiding upstairs.
"I think I've made a mistake"
He comments, “I think I’ve made a mistake, coming back here – people don’t forget, Gwyn.   I went to Penrhewl – I’ve done some terrible things – you don’t understand.”
"A lot of people have hurt us too!"
She admits that they have both hurt people, but that it does not matter, as a lot of people have hurt them too;  “And no-one more than him upstairs!   Don’t you agree?   That’s why we’re such an ideally suited couple.   It’s started to work already – he was almost in tears earlier.
"When we've finished with him . . ."
“I’m telling you, when we’ve finished with him, he’ll be desperate to leave Y Felin!”
"I understand you like fireworks"
Dai comments to DJ, “I understand you like fireworks – throwing a cartridge on a fire – Nefi wen!”   DJ realises that his Mam has been talking.   “You’re lucky to be alive, you clown!” Dai adds.
Linda is about to get up from her chair
Linda has got up from her chair and gone into the lounge,
"Ifan Hafod gave me that cartridge"
as DJ recalls that Ifan Hafod gave it to him, and that it went off like a bomb.
"Mam, are you all right?"
They realise that Linda is no longer there, and when they go to look for her, DJ finds her lying on the floor.
Dai calls an ambulance
He confirms that she is still breathing, and Dai calls for an ambulance.
