Headlines in the Western Post
In the shop, Diane gasps when she sees the front-page headline of the Western Post – ‘Siege Drama in Cwmderi’.   Eileen says she hates to think what might have happened, and Diane considers it chilling that Gethin’s own father was willing to kill him,
"Imagine having that man as your father!"
adding, “Imagine having that man as your father anyway – ugh!”
Eileen’s phone rings, and she hopes it is Jim, but it is not;
Jim still has not been in touch
“He has not been in touch since he left, and I haven’t any clue as to where he is.   I’ve sent him loads of texts.”
"Yes, I ignored Dai's texts"
Diane sympathises, as she ignored Dai’s texts when she was in Australia, but stresses that Jim will come back, just as she did.
"How is Dani?"
When Diane leaves the shop, she encounters Garry and asks about Dani;
Sioned hears that Dani will be at the hospital
she is told that she will be at the hospital for most of the day.
"Your mother needs some company"
Then Diane sees Sioned, who has been eavesdropping on the conversation,  and informs her that her mother needs some company.
Sioned appears to have a Garry fixation
Sioned, however, is more concerned with watching Garry go into the Deri.
"I need a corkscrew to open this!"
Dai is irritably searching for a corkscrew, and moans at DJ,
"I haven't touched your blinking corkscrew!"
who replies  “I haven’t touched your blinking corkscrew!”
"You stole thousands from your family!"
“You stole thousands from your own family, so why not a cooking utensil?” grumbles Dai, “If you’re not happy,
"You know what you can do!"
“you know what you can do – you don’t have to live here!   Perhaps someone else is stupid enough to put a roof over your head!”
Linda hears that DJ is being thrown out
Linda walks in and is told by Dai, “He’s moving out – I’ve had enough –
"I've had it right up to here!"
“I’ve had it right up to here, living with a thief!”
Sioned enters the shop and is asked by her mother to turn the sign round to show the shop is closed;
"Come to the Deri tonight"
Sioned wants to take Eileen out for a drink at the Deri tonight to take her mind off things.   “Garry won’t be there – he’s taking Dani to the hospital,” she says,
"Well – if Garry won't be there"
and Eileen reluctantly agrees.
Britt brings sustenance to Garry
Britt brings a casserole to Garry so that they do not have to cook tonight;  she offers to work in the Deri so that he can go with Dani to the hospital.   Hannah and Chester have gone to the cinema, and Colin is looking after the other two children.
"Dani doesn't want me there"
“The fact is, Dani doesn’t want me there!” he admits, and Britt points out that she has been through a lot.
Eifion is cancelling the syndicate
Eifion comes in and tells them that the thought of it makes him shudder – the thought that Moc could have been there at the farm, waiting for them.   He is adamant, “I don’t want a gun near Penrhewl again – I’ve decided not to go ahead with the shooting syndicate.
"It's odd, you being at Penrhewl"
“I still think it’s odd, you being up at Penrhewl when Moc attacked you.”
"I was just passing"
Garry lies that he just happened to be passing and saw a light on, so he checked that everything was all right.
“So you had no idea that Moc was hiding out at the farm?” continues Eifion, and Britt asks him what he is trying to say.
"You don't fool me!"
“You don’t fool me!” he tells Garry.
DJ has packed all his worldly goods
Dai explains to Linda, “That boy has to learn his lesson – I’ve decided, and that’s the end of it!”   DJ comes in, dragging his case, tells his mother he will contact her, when he has somewhere to stay, and gives her a hug.
Linda eventually confesses
Linda cannot remain silent any longer and admits, “I did it – I stole the money – I’m telling the truth!”
"You'd do anything to protect him!"
Dai considers that she would say anything to protect DJ,
Linda gives all the details
but she spells it out, “The money was in an envelope on the counter, and I was looking for Diane.   Jason’s back was turned, so I took the envelope and left quietly.”
"I regret putting a roof over your head!"
“Have you any idea how much chaos you’ve caused?” demands Dai, “I regret putting a roof over your head now!   There’s no welcome for you here either!”
"What's going on?"
At that moment Diane walks in and wants to know what is going on.
“Another twist in the robbery tale,” Dai informs her, “It looks as if it was not DJ who stole the money –
"Oh no – it was Linda!"
“oh no – it was Linda!”   Diane looks astonished.
"I'm not here to cause trouble"
Sioned and her mother walk into the Deri;  she tells Garry she is not there to cause any hassle.   “The world doesn’t revolve around you, Garry,” she tells him, “Mam is having a hard time.”
"Oh, yes – the Good Samaritan"
He sarcastically refers to her as the Good Samaritan.
"What if something had happened to you?"
Sioned continues, “I had a shock when I heard what Moc did to you.   What if something had happened to you?”
"You've already got your money"
Garry reminds her that she has had her money.
"You said he wouldn't be here!"
Eileen is uneasy that Garry is there, and fears that he will come over.
Eifion turns this to his advantage
At the bar Eifion complains to Garry, “I don’t know what Moc did to the pick-up, but the gears are stiff and the brakes are squeaking.   It needs a service, but money is tight at the moment, now the syndicate is not going ahead.
"If the police came back and asked . . ."
“I’m not one to point the finger, but if the police came back and asked me how I found you in Penrhewl!”
Garry tells him to bring the pick-up in tomorrow for a free service;
"There's something you're not telling me"
Britt demands why he is offering that;  “There’s something you’re not telling me – it’s not a coincidence you were at Penrhewl, was it?
"You knew Moc was there"
“You knew Moc was there – did you go to warn him?”
"I went there to kill him!"
Garry replies bluntly that he intended to kill Moc.
"Gethin was too much of a coward"
After they have gone up to the flat, Garry explains, “It was Gethin’s idea, but he was too much of a coward, so I agreed to do it – but I was careless.
"I should have finished the job"
“I should have finished the job.   My only regret is that I didn’t succeed!   If I was given the chance, I’d do the same again!”
"So that's why Dani doesn't want you at the hospital"
Britt deduces that Dani knows about this, and that is why she does not want him at the hospital.   He confesses that she wants nothing to do with him, but Britt advises to give Dani time.
"I'm not sure there is a way back"
He laments, “I’m afraid this has really come between us – and I’m not sure there is a way back.   Moc won’t hold on for much longer – and what happens when he dies?   I’m concerned for her health – and the baby’s.”
"That's when Dani will turn to you"
Britt suggests that may be the time when Dani will turn to him;  “I’m not saying what you did was right, but I do understand why you were willing to do it.   I don’t think any less of you – but you can’t let Moc’s poison spoil things for you two – he can still do that whether he’s dead or alive.
"Don't give up, Garry"
“Don’t give up, because you owe it to yourself, to Dani, to Gwern and the baby.”
"I wouldn't normally have done it"
Linda explains it was too great a temptation – she would not normally have done it, if it were not for the cancer.
Dai is less than impressed by this sob story
“All I wanted was to enjoy my last few days with my son.”
"That doesn't give you the right to steal"
Dai protests that does not give her the right to steal, and that he would not do that in the same circumstances.
Diane points out that he has done plenty of stupid things over the years, and he is angry that Diane seems to be willing to forgive her, just like that.   She marches him into the kitchen.
"Well, at least, you did admit it in the end"
DJ remarks that at least his mother admitted it in the end, and that he intends to find somewhere for them both to stay.
Sioned is preoccupied
Eileen is eager to leave the Deri, but Sioned insists there is no rush;  “Don’t worry about Garry – it’s all under control.
"Garry gave me a lot of money"
“Garry has given me a lot of money not to get rid of the baby.”
"Paying you to look after his baby?"
Eileen is incredulous that he would pay her to look after his baby, and wonders what Dani will say when she finds out.   She is sure that the whole village will know that he is the father, and adds, “Unless he’s paying you to keep quiet.”
"I shall tell everyone that Ed is the baby's father"
Sioned explains that she has thought this through and will tell everyone that Ed is the baby’s father.
"Ed?"
Eileen regards this plan as so sickening
"You make me sick!"
that she immediately leaves for home.
Diane makes excuses for Linda
In Bryntirion’s kitchen, Diane points out to Dai that Linda only stole the money because she is in such a terrible situation;
"Does that make it all right?"
he responds, “Does that make it all right?   Just because she’s dying doesn’t mean she can do whatever she likes!”
"The money has been paid back"
Diane insists that as DJ has paid back the money, they can all move on.
"It's obvious you've made up your mind"
Dai comes to the realisation, “Well, it’s obvious you’ve made up your mind – and it doesn’t matter what I think.”
Diane addresses Linda, “What you did was wrong, but I understand why you did it –
"And Dai agrees with me" – oh yes?
“you don’t have to move out – and Dai agrees with me!   Just don’t tell Jason and Sara, so we don’t stir up trouble.”
"We'll all lie to keep it hunky-dory!"
Dai exclaims, “No, we’ll all lie to keep it hunky-dory!”   Linda proposes buying them all a round of drinks in the Deri,
"How many rounds – a hundred?"
but Dai reckons she owes them a hundred rounds.
In the Deri, Sioned picks up her coat
She cannot keep her eyes off Garry
and looks at Garry, but leaves when Dai and Diane arrive with DJ and Linda.
"You've made a real fool of me"
Dai tells Linda at the bar, “You’ve made a real fool of me in front of the whole village.   Any more of this nonsense, and I won’t have any choice – you’re out!”
Linda hands over her wallet as she makes a hasty exit
She asks him to excuse her, and hands Dai her wallet;
It is evident that she is far from well
as soon as she is out of sight, she appears to be gasping for breath.
"If you think I shall change my mind . . ."
Sioned arrives at Eileen’s flat, and is told she will get no support from her mother, but wants to explain.
"He died before the baby was conceived"
However, Eileen roars, “Ed – the father of this child?   You’ve lost all the sense you had!   He died before the baby was conceived.”
"But the baby will be late"
Sioned replies that the baby will be late, and that no-one will ask questions, as they will all be busy sympathising with her.   Her mother reminds her that she gave Angela away when she was a baby – but did not raise her and pretend someone else was her father.
“You kept the truth from me, even when Angela and I became friends!” accuses Sioned,
"I expected a bit of support!"
“This is so typical of you!   I expected a bit of support, but I should have known better!”
"What will you tell the child?"
“Even if your scheme works, and no-one finds out, that child will grow up and ask questions about his father,” says Eileen, “Do you think you can repeat such a lie day after day?   And what about Garry?   Do you think he’ll be able to stay away?”
"I shall be with Garry by then"
Sioned is confident that they will be together by then – I know what I’m doing – I’m just waiting for a chance to pounce.”   Eileen is sceptical that she will succeed.
"I'm not a loser like you!"
“I’m not a loser like you!” Sioned shouts, “Maybe you let your man slip though your fingers, but I won’t!   Garry and I are going to be together some day –
"I won't let anyone stop me!"
“and I won’t let anyone stop me!”
