1 August 2017

Arwen has disappeared
Gethin ends his phone call and turns, only to find Arwen’s bag, but no sign of the child;
"Arwen, where are you hiding?"
he looks up and down the street, calling her name.
"She's not in the shop"
Mark comes out of the shop, but says that she is not in there;  he will check in the café,
Gethin runs off in search of her
while Gethin searches increasingly frantically for Arwen.
"There is a reason why I'm doing it"
Elgan admits that he does not have permission to record, but there is a reason why he is doing it.
"A young woman came to see me"
“Two years ago, a young woman came to see me – she was in her twenties, and complained of a headache and fatigue.   She had a two-year-old son.   Well, young mothers do get tired, we had a chat and I sent her home.
"Three days later she was dead"
“Three days later she was dead – if only I had given her more time – a little boy lost his mother because of me.”
"Was there an enquiry?"
Gaynor asks if there was an enquiry;  he replies that there was, and he was exonerated, as the death was caused by an aneurysm, and no one could have prevented it.
"Maybe I could have done something to save her"
“I was in a rush that morning, and I should have taken more care.   They cannot be 100% certain – maybe I could have done something to save her.   I promised myself that I would never put myself in that position again, that’s why I have to record now – I listen to it over again to make sure I’m not missing anything.   It’s worth it if it saves one patient.”
"But it's against the rules"
Gaynor points out that his action is against the rules, but he insists that saving lives is more important than following rules.
"Don't forget the suntan lotion"
At Y Felin, Macs is packing food and drink, watched by Arwen, who presents him with suntan lotion.   “We’ll build the best sandcastle ever,” he says,
They are about to set off . . .
but as they are about to leave,
. . . when Siôn arrives unexpectedly
Siôn returns home, saying that his meeting finished early.   “Ffion is busy, so we’re on the way to the beach, by bus,” Macs tells him.
Siôn decides that he will go with them, as has not seen Arwen for a while, and suggests that they go in his car, and they can go for a paddle.
Macs' plan is now going awry
Macs does not look at all happy with this arrangement.
"I trusted you to look after her!"
Gethin explains to Ffion that he turned his back for a couple of minutes;  “I trusted you to look after her!” she scolds him.
Ffion calls the police
Mark reports that no one has seen her, so Ffion phones the police.
Playing on the beach in the sunshine
Meanwhile, Arwen and Macs are building sandcastles on the beach,
"There's nothing better than sea air"
watched by Siôn, who comments that he is very good with her.   “There’s nothing better than sea air – a place to ease the soul,” he tells Macs, “I’m proud of the way you’ve changed.”
"I've grown up at last, Dad"
Macs replies that he has grown up at last, and Siôn adds, “That’s how it should be from now on – no arguments, lies or deception – just family.”
Macs receives a phone call;
Macs keeps quiet about the real caller
although the screen clearly shows that it is from Ffion, he tells his father it is one of the boys from Cardiff.
Off they scamper to the sea
Siôn and Arwen run down to the sea,
Macs purloins his father's phone
while Macs removes the phone from his father’s jacket.
"Macs White is the person you're looking for!"
The police constable tells Ffion to try not to panic, and is told emphatically that the person they want is Macs White.   Gethin explains that he is Arwen’s biological father, and he has been stopped from seeing Arwen.
"He stole my car keys – and tried to kiss me"
On the insistence of the officer, Ffion admits, “Last week he stole my car keys, to stop us coming home, and he tried to kiss me.
"He's not been allowed to see Arwen"
He hasn’t been allowed to see Arwen since then.”
"Why didn't you tell me before?"
Gethin asks why she did not tell him this before, reminding her that they promised to be honest with each other.   “My little girl is missing, and all you can think about is yourself!” snarls Ffion.
Apparently the water was rather cold
Siôn reports that the water was colder than he thought, and Arwen resumes work on her sandcastles;
"He wanted to book a five-a-side match"
Macs invents a tale that his friend from Cardiff was trying to book a five-a-side match.
“There’s no pressure, but as you and Ffion are on such good terms,
"Would you like to live in Cwmderi permanently?"
“how would you like to live in Cwmderi permanently?” Siôn asks, “It’s obvious you love Arwen, and she thinks the world of you.   If you lived in the village, you could apply for joint custody.”
"There's no chance of that"
Macs cannot see any court agreeing to that arrangement.
"Where did I put my phone?"
Siôn intends to take a photo of Arwen, but finds his phone is missing from his jacket;
"I think it's on the seat in the car"
Macs alleges that he saw it on a seat in the car, then takes out his phone
Arwen smiles for the camera
and calls to Arwen to look at Dad.
Siôn suggests that he should send the photo to Ffion;  “It be a way of showing her how good you are with Arwen.”   Macs says he does not want to have to prove himself to her all the time,
Is Siôn harbouring suspicions?
and pretends to have sent it.
Vicky is not taking Nicky anywhere, in the circumstances
At Maes-y-Deri, Kath and Vicky are watching the television;  Vicky tells her mother that she is not taking Nicky anywhere, with a kidnapper on the loose.
"They're still searching"
Then Debbie receives a text from Mark, to say they are still searching, but Kath maintains that she is playing somewhere and will soon be found.
"We had better get Arwen home now"
Arwen is put into the car, and Siôn pronounces it a perfect day;  Macs thinks they could go somewhere else, but his father points out that Arwen is tired out, so they had better get back, to stay in Ffion’s good books.
"I don't want to go back to Cwmderi!"
He hands over the car keys to Macs, who suddenly decides he does not want to go back to Cwmderi.
Macs is unsettled to see a police car
Then he sees a police car approaching;
"Please tell me that Ffion knows where Arwen is!"
seeing the guilty look on Macs’ face, Siôn demands, “Please tell me Ffion knows where Arwen is!”
Macs makes off in the car
Macs jumps into the driving seat, and accelerates away, leaving Siôn behind.
"We shouldn't be making cups of tea!"
“We should be out searching, not making cups of tea!” rages Ffion, and Gethin apologises for what he had said.
"I should have told you earlier"
Ffion confesses, “I should have told you earlier, but we have been going through so much.   Nothing happened!”
Gethin tries to console her
He embraces her,
"No developments yet"
and the policewoman confirms that there have been no further developments.   “Where is she?   I just want my baby back!” cries Ffion.
Macs suggests they could go abroad
At a café, Macs tells Arwen that they can go to the beach again, or go on holiday abroad;
He remembers his first holiday . . .
he remembers his first holiday, which was the best holiday ever, with him, grandma, grandad and uncle Iolo camping in France.   “Uncle Huw had not been born.   We had so much fun, riding bikes, swimming, cooking marshmallows on the fire.   “We’ll have as many marshmallows as we want,”
. . . but Arwen does not appear to be listening
but Arwen is concentrating on her colouring.
“A lot of families go every year – we can do the same,” he adds,
Another police car makes him nervous
but then hears a police siren, and wants to leave as a matter of urgency,
"Look, you've knocked my drink over now!"
and he apologises for knocking over Arwen’s drink in his haste.   However, the siren recedes into the distance,
"I'm your Dadi . . ."
“Listen, love, it doesn’t matter what your mother says, I’m your Dadi –
". . . you must remember that"
“it’s important for you to remember that,” and he kisses her.
"Can you keep an eye on her?"
He asks a passing waitress to look after Arwen for a moment while he goes to the car.
Then he sends a text . . .
Then he gets out his phone and composes a text.
. . . which causes Ffion great excitement
All of a sudden, the text tone sounds on Ffion’s phone, and she now knows where Arwen is;
"We'll send someone there now"
the constable will send someone there now,
Now the tears are of joy
and Arwen will be home before they know it.
"You are going to delete those recordings!"
Gaynor removes Elgan’s laptop from its case, instructing him to delete those recordings, and those on his phone.
"This stops now!"
He says he will do so when he has finished going through them, but she is insistent.   “No, Elgan – this stops now!   I want your word you won’t record anyone again, or I will report you!”
He regards this as blackmail, but she refuses to let him throw it all away;
"Everyone thinks the world of you – including me!"
“You’re an experienced doctor – you should have more faith in yourself,” but he does not know if he can.   “Of course you can – you’re doing a brilliant job.   Everyone here thinks the world of you – including me.   Prove to me that you’re going to stop this, and I won’t breathe a word to anyone.”
He begins the task . . .
He sits down
. . . of deleting all those files . . .
and starts deleting the files,
. . . under the beady eye of the headmistress
as she watches him.
Macs waits until the police arrive
A police car arrives, and passes the car in which Macs is sitting;  then he drives away.
They go to collect Arwen
The two officers go to get Arwen.
Debbie receives a welcome text . . .
Debbie is doing the washing-up when she receives a text from Josh;  it reads, “Greetings from the caravan. Looking forward to a visit from you very soon.   Regards, your father.”
Vicky knew that she was worried about him, but was too proud to admit it;
. . . which makes her smile
Debbie smiles contentedly.
Elgan has completed his task
Having finished the operation, Elgan closes the laptop, and thanks Gaynor.
"This could be a new start for us"
She predicts that this could be a new start for him – “And for us, if that’s what you want.”   He replies that he does not want her to feel obliged, or sorry for him,
"I don't want to lose what we had"
but she assures him she does not want to lose what they had.
Arwen is reunited with her Mam
Arwen is brought back to Cysgod y Glyn, and runs to her Mami’s arms;  they thank the police officer, who says that there was no sign of Macs.
"Macs is still out there!"
Ffion is infuriated that he left the child on her own, and that he is still out there,
"Don't worry, we're looking for him"
but the PC stresses that they are still looking for him.   “If he turns up, call immediately!” she tells them.
"He isn't stupid enough to come back here!"
Gethin remarks, “Even Macs isn’t stupid enough to show his face here again!”
"I thought he arranged it with you"
Then Siôn arrives, and says he last saw Macs on the beach;  he thought arrangements had been made with Ffion.
"We're fed up with the Whites today!"
Gethin emphasises that they are fed up with the Whites today.
"Would you be willing to drop the matter?"
“Would you be willing to drop the matter?   Tell them it was a misunderstanding?” Siôn asks, “Say Macs had sent a message but you hadn’t seen it?   He only wanted to spend time with his daughter.”
"He tried to kiss Ffion and stole her keys!"
Gethin points out that he tried to kiss Ffion, and stole her keys;  “Did he forget to mention that?” but Siôn insists that Macs has changed, and that this is a new start for the family.
"Arwen isn't therapy for the Whites!"
Ffion is very angry;  “Arwen isn’t therapy for the Whites!” she exclaims, but he continues to maintain that Arwen should get to know her father, and later could hold it against Ffion.
"Right, that's enough!   Get out!"
“Right, that’s enough!   Get out!” shouts Gethin and forcibly ejects Siôn from the flat.
Ffion holds Arwen close
Ffion holds Arwen tightly.
