18 August 2017

It is almost time for the appointment
The time is 10:01 as Garry gets a glass of water,
Garry is deep in thought
and is deep in thought;  Dani enters the room, but does not say a word.
He gives Dani the water
He hands her the water,
"It will be strange for you"
and she comments, “It will be strange for you – going back to the hospital where Sioned lost your baby.”
He assures her he will not let the past affect today;
"Today is a chance for a fresh start"
“We won’t be able to put it all behind us just like that, but today is a chance for a fresh start.   To look forward to our future together, as a family.   It’s not going to be easy, but we have to try.
"Come on, or we'll be late"
“Come on, or we’ll be late.”
They walk towards the car . . .
Mathew is walking past the bus stop when he sees Dani and Garry leaving the Deri.
. . . but encounter Sioned
Then they come face to face with Sioned, who demands why Garry has not been answering her messages.
Garry has now told Dani everything
Dani announces, “I know, Sioned, I know everything – Garry’s told me.”   Sioned’s face falls.
“I want you to stop calling and texting – I don’t want you to contact me again,” Garry instructs her,
"After all we've been through?"
and she is surprised, after everything they have been through.
Sioned does not think of it as a blessing
He goes on, “I can see now that losing the baby was a blessing.”
He opens the car door for Dani, but Sioned has not finished yet;  “Where do you have to go that’s so important?”   Garry informs her that it is Dani’s 20-week scan.
She sits down on the kerb
As he drives away, she looks very downhearted and sits down on the kerb;  her mother approaches and asks what is wrong,
"Just leave me alone, Mam"
but Sioned just wants to be left alone.
Jim faces his horticultural task . . .
Jim is out on the allotment with his wheelbarrow;  he picks up the fork and surveys the task ahead.
. . . and gets stuck in
“Right then,” he mutters, “Start where your feet are.”
When Mathew arrives at Maes-y-Deri, Vicky wonders why he has a rucksack;  “I’ve moved out of the Deri,” he explains,
"And you want to move in with me?"
and she assumes that he wants to move in with her.   “I wondered if you knew of someone with the room going?” he says.
There are two people listening with interest
In the kitchen, Debbie and Kath are eavesdropping.
"It's a bit early to be thinking of that"
“It’s a bit early to be talking about moving in,” Mathew adds, but Debbie interrupts to say she has no objection, and that if something is worth, doing they might as well do it now.
"If you're serious, you might as well shack up together!"
Kath also has her say, that if they are serious about each other, they might as well shack up together, but there will be terms and conditions.
"You can stay if you want"
When Debbie and Kath have gone, Vicky agrees that he can stay if he wants,
Mathew is less enthusiastic
but Mathew does not seem awfully keen, and agrees to think about it.
Chester seems to think it is all a laugh
Britt is agonising to Chester that Catrin seems to be spending more and more time in her room, but he does not think that is a bad thing.
"Why don't you talk to your sister?"
She suggests that he should talk to his sister,
"No, you're too busy on the phone to Hannah"
but complains that he is too busy talking to Hannah on his phone all the time.
"At least Aaron is out playing with his mates"
“At least with Aaron I know he is out playing with his mates.”
Colin arrives in an excited mood, and shouts to Katrin to come out, as has something to show her;
"I had to go all the way to the depot"
“I had to go all the way to the depot to pick it up,” he tells Britt.
We have not seen Catrin recently
When Katrin emerges, he says,” Look, Cats – a brand-new camera for the family – it’s different from the camera phone.   You can zoom in, zoom out, change lenses,
"And there's a smart mode on it"
and there is a smart mode on it – you can send the photos to your friends online, just like that.”
"I'm going shopping with Claire and Saeed"
Katrin announces that she is going shopping with Claire and Saeed, and that she will have a look at it when she comes back.
Some vegetable rustling is going on . . .
Out on the allotment, Kath looks furtively around before pulling a spring cabbage from the ground, and adding it to the other vegetables she has acquired.
. . . and Kath tries to get away, unnoticed
As she leaves, Jim notices her
"Blimey, Kath – have you got an allotment?"
and comments, “Blimey, Kath, have you got an allotment?”
"You can't see it from here"
She tells him that she has, and it is just out of sight over there.
"You don't strike me as an allotment holder"
“You don’t strike me as a person who would want to tend an allotment,” he goes on,
"Have you seen the price of veg in Eileen's shop?"
but she asks if he has seen the price of vegetables in Eileen’s shop.
She offers Jim some gardening tips,
He collapses on the ground in pain
but when he returns to his digging he appears to injure his foot in some way.
Britt is optimistic about Catrin
In the shop, Britt is cautiously optimistic about Katrin, and Colin asks Mathew, who is looking in the paper for accommodation, whether he is actually going to buy it.
Mathew is looking for accommodation
“Do you know anyone who is looking to rent a room?” he asks them,
"Oh, are you moving out of the Deri?"
and they are surprised that he is moving out of the Deri.
Britt remarks that it makes sense, with a baby on the way, and Colin quips, “Changing times, changing nappies.”   Britt decides to buy a baby magazine for Dani, who has her 20-week scan today.   Colin has a bright idea that he could offer to take their photos, before and after having the baby;
Colin proposes making a photo portfolio
“Make a portfolio, from the bump to the world.”
Jim rests his injured foot
Sitting by the shed, Jim is resting his foot, and Kath warns him that he may not be able to get his boot off.   “I don’t know what came over me, taking this allotment,” he tells her,
"I just wanted some peace and quiet"
“I just wanted some peace and quiet, some time to think.”
"Why not fishing, or golf?"
She wonders why he did not choose fishing or golf.
“They weren’t things I used to do with Courtney,” he replies,
Gardening is what he used to do with Courtney
“When she was a little girl we used to spend hours gardening – until she spent more time with her dolls, then with her friends – and then with the boys.   But that time, when we did the gardening together, that was special.”
Dani is having her scan . . .
At Dani’s scan, they are asked whether they want to know the sex of the baby;
. . . and is informed that the baby is a girl
the midwife tells them it is a girl.
"A little girl!"
Danny smiles, and after a moment so does Garry;  “Look at her,” he says,
Presumably these random colours mean something
indicating the various colours on the monitor, “I hope she gets her looks from her mother and not from me!”
Dani remarks that as long as the baby does not get her father’s brains, she will be fine;  it is confirmed that everything is all right.
"I'm so proud of you"
“I’m so proud of you,” Garry tells her,
"She will be called Greta"
and she decides that the baby’s name will be Greta, after Dani’s grandmother.
Garry kisses her
Garry kisses her.
Meanwhile, Sioned has an unhealthy obsession with Garry
Meanwhile, Sioned, with tears in her eyes, repeatedly dials Garry’s mobile,
She repeated dials his number . . .
and every time she hears the message that he is not available at the moment,
. . . only to hear a recorded message
she redials.
"Please don't tell me that's your new look!"
Katrin is back from her shopping trip, and Chester comments, “Please don’t tell me that’s your new look!”   Britt is somewhat overwhelmed, and says she looks like a Goth.
"Not a Goth – an Emo!"
“Not a Goth – an Emo!” Katrin informs her,
Chester has to translate for his mother
and Chester and explains that it means ‘emotional hardcore’.   Basically they are like punks, but instead of being angry, they are really depressed.
"I'm not depressed"
Katrin protests that she is not depressed,
"I would be if I looked like that!"
but her brother laughs that he would be if he looked like that, so she flounces back to her bedroom.   “Nice one, Chest!” Britt snarls, but he sits there, giggling.
The public announcement, while Mal looks disorientated
In the café, Dani announces to Debbie that the baby is a girl, and Garry shows a photo of the scan to Vicky.   Mathew, who is also there, offers his congratulations,
"I haven't told him"
and Dani mutters that she has not told him.
"Greta wants to buy everyone a coffee"
Garry, on behalf of Greta, wants to buy everyone a coffee.
Sioned listens to all this
Sioned is listening on the stairs, and does not look happy.
"I haven't had a chance to think about it"
Mathew tells Vicky he has not had a chance to think about moving in,
Vicky manages to persuade him
but she insists that they can take it slow.   “We could give it a try and see how it goes,” he concedes.   Kath suggests that the rent will be £70, payable every Monday, and he replies that he does not want to take advantage.
“Right, sorted – we’ve got a new housemate,” declares Debbie.
"Are you moving out, Mathew?"
Garry is surprised to hear that Mathew is moving out of the Deri, but wishes him well.   He has to go to the garage, and will settle up with Debbie later.
Dani predicts that the three of them will be very happy;
Sioned gets up from the stairs . . .
Sioned gets up from her position and goes up to the flat.
. . . and cuddles Garry's jacket
She takes Garry’s jacket from the hook, and holds it lovingly.
"Emu?"
When told about Katrin, Colin is puzzled;  “Emu?”   Britt explains that it is “Emo” which is half Goth, half Punk, and maintains that it really suits her.
"Colin, I told you to put that away!"
He is working on the interface between camera and laptop, and incurs the wrath of Eileen, who had told him to do some clearing up.
"What's this – 500 Unexpected Error?"
After downloading some photos, he exclaims, “What’s this – 500 unexpected error?   What’s that supposed to mean?”   Britt replies that it means that his laptop is a geriatric, so he intends to buy a new laptop.
One of the scan photos has been left in the café
In the Deri, Sioned finds one of the scan photos on a table, and picks it up on her way out.
Despite his accident, Jim is happy about the allotment
Jim hobbles into the shop, telling Eileen about his accident;  “I think taking this allotment is the best thing I’ve done in a while.”
She gives him a gardening book
She presents him with a gardening book, and they are suddenly aware of Colin,
The Cwmderi Paparazzi in action
taking photographs of them.   “What on earth are you doing?” demands Jim.
Sioned returns the scan photo
Outside the shop, Sioned, wearing Garry’s jacket, tells Dani she has forgotten something, and hands over the photo.
"I was sorry to hear about your baby"
“Listen, Sioned,” Dani begins, “I was sorry to hear about your baby, but you can’t act like this – you tricked me – make me think that we were friends.”
"You've got plenty of everything"
Sioned replies that Dani has plenty of friends, and plenty of everything.   “So you were jealous of what Garry and I had?” queries Dani, “You wanted it all for yourself.”
"I did get it – I had it all!"
Sioned insists that she did get it – she had it all;  “But you couldn’t keep it!” is Dani’s response,
"I want that jacket back!"
“I want that jacket back!”
“It’s not yours – Garry wants me to keep it,” says Sioned,
"It's the only thing I have left!"
“I’m going to keep it because it’s the only thing I have left!”   Garry is just getting out of his car and locking it, as she continues, “You’ve destroyed my life!”
"You can start by repaying the £25,000"
Dani is determined, “You’re not going to destroy mine – you have to pay for what you did.   You can start by repaying the £25,000 you owe Garry.”
"After everything I've been through?"
“You’re threatening me, after everything I’ve been through?” demands Sioned, but Dani tells them not to behave like the victim here, because she started it, and if she wants to put something behind her, there is a price to pay.
“Go to hell!” rages Sioned, “I will be paying back a single penny to Garry – think of it as compensation for the mess he’s made of my life!”
Villagers have been attracted by the noise
By this time, a few people are witnessing this altercation as she continues, “I’ve lost my baby!   The one thing I wanted in the whole world!”
Dani stresses that she has been through the same experience, and knows how awful it is.
"You're glad I lost the baby!"
“I don’t want your sympathy – don’t pretend you care about me, either.   You’re glad I lost the baby, aren’t you.   It’s a blessing, because now you can carry on with your perfect little life!”
By now they have quite an audience
By now there is quite a crowd of onlookers,
"Get Eileen – now!"
and Britt hurries to the shop to fetch Eileen.
Sioned is still loudly declaiming, “I want you to know Garry wanted me – he couldn’t get enough of me – he was ready to leave you!”   As she walks away,
A tussle for the jacket ensues . . .
Dani throws down her bag and demands that she wants the jacket, trying to pull it from Sioned.
Sioned is dragged away by her mother
Dani is pushed to the ground, as Garry comes running and Eileen drags Sioned away.
"If anything happens to this baby . . ."
When Garry arrives, Dani vows, “If anything happens to this baby, I’ll never forgive you!”
