15 August 2017

Gethin can see that something is wrong
Gethin is helping Dani clean up in the Deri;  she insists that there is nothing wrong, but he can see this is not the case.
Olivia – apparently the sister of Dani and Tyler
There is a banging on the door, and a stranger walks in – but she is not a stranger to Dani and Gethin;
"Liv, what are you doing here?"
Dani exclaims in astonishment, “Liv – what are you doing here?”
There is the sound of sirens outside, and the girl appears ready to run;
Gethin bolts the door of the Deri
Gethin bolts the door.
Bacon and mushroom sandwich – with mustard
Dai has made himself a very appetising bacon and mushroom sandwich, and laces it with mustard;
He reaches for his phone
he is about to take a bite when the phone rings.   “Hey, slow down, Jason – what’s wrong?” he asks,
"What do you mean, fire?"
“What do you mean, fire?   I’ll be there as quickly as I can!”
It would have been even better with wholemeal bread
He is forced to leave his sandwich uneaten.
"I haven't lived with Mam for ages"
Upstairs, in the Deri flat, Dani questions her visitor, and finds that she has not lived with their mother for ages.   Liv pleads with Dani not reveal that she is here.
"What have you done?"
Gethin asks, “What have you done?” and Dani urges her to talk to them, assuming that she is in trouble.
"I had a baby, a couple of days ago"
“I had a baby – a couple of days ago – a little girl.   I panicked,” Liv admits.
"You left her on Tyler's doorstep"
Dani realises that she is the one who left the baby on her brother’s doorstep.   Again they hear the sound of sirens.
Dai investigates the aftermath of the fire
At the back of APD, firemen with breathing apparatus have extinguished the fire by the time Dai reaches the place.
"They think it was a cigarette"
Sara tells him that they think a cigarette ignited the rubbish outside;
"Come on, outside, please"
then the roller shutter door goes up, and amidst further smoke, two more firefighters emerge, telling Dai and Sara to get out of the building.
"Whatever you do, don't tell Diane!"
Diane is away on a health and safety course, and Dai is anxious that she does not hear about this fire until he can tell her.
"The fire is out now, so don't worry, Mam"
Then Jason approaches, on the phone to Diane, telling her that they caught it just in time, and there is no need to worry.
Dai is very angry
Of course, Dai is very put out about this.   “Crikey Moses!   Why me all the time?” he shouts.
"The baby has heroin withdrawal symptoms"
Dani updates Gethin that the baby is suffering from heroine withdrawal symptoms, because the mother was on heroine when she was pregnant.
"You're an addict too!"
“Not only have you dumped your baby, you’re an addict too!” says Gethin, but Dani insist that no one is calling the police until they have had a chat, and sends him downstairs to arrange for someone to cover the bar.
"She's always been trouble"
“I know she’s your sister, but she’s always been trouble – be careful and think before jumping in to help her,” he warns.
"The baby is going through hell in the hospital"
“The baby is in hospital – she’s going through hell.   How could you do this?” Dani demands,
"She was two weeks early"
and is told that the baby arrived in the middle of the night, two weeks early.
Liv was not thinking straight, and was staying on a sofa with a bunch of wreckheads;
Dani looks sceptical about Liv's story
there was no hot water to wash the baby, no blankets to keep her warm, and she had never held a baby before.
"I had no idea what to do"
“I had no idea what to do – I tried to feed her, but I couldn’t,” she sobs, “So I found a bus that was coming here – I just wanted her to be safe.”
"Remember when we were children?"
Dani sits by her and recalls what she used to say when they were children;
"Livie Louise, always say please"
“Livie Louise, always say please!”   She concludes that she did not make a very good job of looking after her sister, but insists that Liv now needs help, including a postnatal checkup.
"You have to tell the police"
“You have to tell the police who you are and what has happened,” Dani goes on, “It’s really important that you say you’re the baby’s mother.   Right, let’s go to the hospital.”
Dani hands her the phone
Liv protests that first she needs a shower, but Dani is adamant that she phones social services first, and assures her that everything will be fine.
"I'm going to the hospital"
At number 7, Iolo is still dwelling upon the problems of the baby, and tells Tyler that he is going to the hospital, just to check that she got through it.   Tyler advises against this,
"She was born addicted to heroin"
but Iolo is determined, “She was born addicted to heroin – I can’t imagine anything worse.”
He is told that the baby is not their responsibility now.
"Look, we have plans with Kelly"
“Look, we know how much we want a baby of our own, but we’ve already got plans in place with Kelly,” Tyler reminds him,
"I can't stop thinking about her"
but Iolo simply cannot stop thinking about her.
"Our future is what's important now"
“Us, Kelly and the future of our child are what’s important now,” stresses Tyler.
Dani puts credit cards in her purse . . .
Dani is putting credit cards into her purse when Liv returns from her shower;
. . . leaves it on the table . . .
then she puts down the purse for a moment, and while her back is turned,
. . . and Liv makes off with it
Liv snatches it and hurries away.
"Yopu're right – there's nothing we can do"
Iolo has been thinking, and has come to the conclusion that Tyler is right;  there is nothing they can do, and there is no point thinking about it.
"You're not going to believe this!"
Dani arrives and tells them, “You’re not going to believe this – Liv – Olivia – our sister, she is the baby’s mother!   She has landed in Cwmderi and told me – then she stole my purse and left!”
"She's on heroin?"
Tyler cannot believe that Liv is on heroin, and Iolo comes to the realisation that Tyler is the baby’s uncle.
"She's your responsibility now"
“Come on, we’re going to the hospital – she is your responsibility now,” he says.
Dai is particularly worried about the gas canisters
The fire officer advises Dai that he has been very lucky, and Dai insists that he was about to move the gas canisters out;  “That’s why they are by the door – I was moving them out the back,” he blusters.   Sara comments that he is lucky that the Fire Brigade arrived when they did.
The baby is still crying
As she stands by the cot, where the baby is still crying,
"Maybe every baby isn't meant to be born"
Dani muses, “It’s a terrible way of arriving in the world – maybe every baby isn’t meant to be born.”   Iolo wonders why she said that,
"Not everyone deserves children"
and she explains, “Not everyone deserves children, that’s all.”
"Mam kicked her out months ago"
Tyler has been in touch with his mother, who did not know that Liv had a baby, as she had been kicked out months ago.   “She wouldn’t give Liv money for drugs, and so she turned nasty
"She threatened Mam with a knife"
“and threatened her mother with a knife.   Mam’s not easy to live with, but Liv is an addict.   Mam’s no angel, but you can’t blame her for this.”
Dani holds their mother responsible
Dani maintains that if her mother had been there for her, Liv would not have gone off the rails;  “That’s another person who didn’t deserve to have children!” she snarls.
Dai conducts a frantic search
At Bryntirion, Dai is urgently searching through papers, and not finding what he is looking for;
Jason finds a final warning from the council
Jason demands what he is doing, and picks up one of the papers.   “A final warning from the council – what have you done?” he comments,
"This is serious, Dai!"
and then reads further, where the storage of LPG canisters is mentioned;  he also notes that it is dated 18 months ago.   “This is serious, Dai!”
"I was busy, and it slipped my mind"
Dai replies that it was all sorted out at the time, and then later he was busy, but Jason points out that if all this information comes to light in the investigation, he is facing a huge fine;
"More than what APD can afford"
“More than what APD can afford, I can assure you,”
Social services are involved . . .
Social services worker, Mali Rees, comes to the hospital and informs them that Liv is on the police missing persons list;
. . . but Dani has other concerns on her mind
she wants to discuss the next steps with them, but Dani does not want to be involved and leaves.
"Don't tell your mother"
Dai begs Jason not to tell his mother about this;  Jason answers, “Did Mam know about the investigation 18 months ago?
"She will find out eventually"
“You have to tell her now, especially now that the company’s future is under threat.”   Dai describes his attitude as pessimistic, but Jason insists he is only preparing Dai, and that Diane is going to find out.
"Just keep it secret for now"
Nevertheless, Dai wants to keep this secret for now, and Jason reluctantly agrees.
"You and Garry are perfectly solid"
Dani goes to Cysgod y Glyn and tells Gethin, “It scares me so much – I’ve seen what coming from a broken family can do.   It can ruin a child’s life.”  Gethin wonders why she is so worried, as he maintains that she and Garry are perfectly solid.
Dani is obviously hiding something . . .
Seeing her guilty expression, he asks if something has happened, but she does not want to talk about it.
. . . and Gethin insists she tells her big brother
He is adamant that she cannot keep it to herself.
"I don't want to accept that it's true"
“If I tell you, I have to accept that is true, and I don’t want to,” she replies.   He wonders what is so terrible that she cannot even tell her big brother.
"They looked like a couple who had just lost a baby"
She finally admits, “I saw Garry and Sioned at the hospital.   They were comforting each other like a couple who had just lost a baby.   I don’t really know if she’s lost it, but when I saw them I knew that he was the baby’s father.”
Garry has gone down in Gethin's estimation
Gethin is disgusted by this,
"Mathew may be the father of my baby"
but Dani continues, “Don’t feel sorry for me – I’m no angel.   I slept with Mathew, a long time ago, and he might be the father of my baby.”
"We would like the baby to remain with the family"
Mali Rees speaks to Iolo and Tyler at number 7;  “Now that we’ve discovered who the mother is, we have to reassess her future.   In circumstances such as these, we would ideally like the baby to remain with her family.   The hospital wants the baby to stay there for at least another ten days,
"You'll have to make the decision pretty quickly"
“but for us to carry out assessments of you and your home, you’ll have to make your decision pretty quickly.”
"I have a duty to look after the baby"
After she has left, Tyler says that he has a duty to look after the baby until they find Liv,
"It might be weeks or months"
but Iolo is reluctant to hand the baby back to her mother after weeks or perhaps months of care.   Once more they get into an argument, and Iolo demands what they are going to tell Kelly.
"Kelly will have to understand!"
Tyler is very blunt, “She’ll have to understand!   Liv’s baby comes first now!”
Gethin tells Dani that Garry should be doing the explaining, as he has been cheating on her,
"But I've been cheating on him"
but she exclaims that she has been doing exactly the same, and she just wants things to go back to normal for the baby.
"You will have to speak to him honestly"
He declares that she has a right to know where she stands with Garry, and will have to speak to him honestly.
"Remember Ffion and Jinx?"
“The truth is bound to come out, like it did with Ffion and Jinx.
"Don't start with a pack of lies"
If you want a stable upbringing for your child, don’t start with a pack of lies.”
Dani resolves to tell Garry
Dani decides, “All right – I’ll tell him!”
