| DJ has spent the night by his mother's bed |
Diane comes downstairs and wakes DJ, who has fallen asleep by his mother’s bedside. He is surprised to see her, but she says she came back late last night. Linda worries that she kept Diane awake,
| "It was worrying about that fire" |
but it was the damage caused by the fire which prevented her from sleeping. Diane goes to make a cup of coffee, and DJ thinks that it is time he went to work.
| "I need your help, DJ" |
“Before you go, I need your help,” says Linda,
| "I need more time, Mam" |
but DJ protests that he needs a bit more time; “That’s one thing I don’t have much of left,” she smiles.
| "OK, I'll see you later" |
Dani is putting on a brave face as Garry leaves for the garage;
| "I'm going to tell Garry today" |
when Mathew comes in, she informs him that she is going to tell Garry today about what she and Mathew did. “I have to – it’s the only way of saving our relationship!” she insists,
| "But he'll kill me!" |
but Mathew is terrified that Garry will kill him. He begs her not to tell him,
| "I've made my decision" |
but she replies, “I’ve made my decision,”
| "Right, I'm going to pack!" |
so he rushes upstairs to pack his bags.
| "Haven't you finished that yet?" |
In the garage, Garry is impatient with Gethin, and announces that he is going to take the afternoon off, as Dani needs some TLC. “Has something happened?” asks Gethin, innocently, but Garry tells him that she just needs some attention.
| "Can you get these plates changed?" |
He pulls the covering from a car, revealing that it is a BMW, and asks Gethin to change the registration plates.
| "I don't want anything to do with your scam" |
“You know I don’t want anything to do with your scam,” is the reply, but Garry insists that this time the money is too good to turn down. He tells Gethin not to be a wimp, and that no-one will find out.
| "All right, why not?" |
After a moment’s thought, Gethin answers, “Yes, all right, why not?”
| Gwyneth has come to scrounge some lavender |
Gwyneth arrives at Penrhewl and asks Cadno for a favour; “I remembered the bags of lavender my grandmother made,” she begins, “I want to use scraps from Awyr Iach and dried lavender from Penrhewl.”
| "Yes, I suppose so" |
Cadno agrees to this, but is somewhat taken aback when Gwyneth announces that she has already collected some.
| "People don't want freebies, just some respect" |
Cadno advises her, “People don’t want lavender freebies from you, just some respect.” At this point,
| "Come to help with the slurry?" |
Eifion comes in and enquires whether Gwyneth is here to help with the slurry; he is sceptical when she says that she has come to visit a friend, considering she does not have many of those. He leaves again and Cadno invites Gwyneth to stay for a cup of tea.
| Ffion looks rather lonely . . . |
Ffion is sitting alone in the Deri, looking rather worried;
| . . . and is worried about A-level results |
she tells Gethin that she is concerned about the A-level results, as Gaynor likes to have targets, and these are the last results for Ysgol y Mynach.
| "Some people have worse things to worry about . . ." |
He informs her that some people have worse things to worry about,
| ". . . like Dani" |
and they both look across at Dani.
“I did everything that Garry asked me to do this morning – “and I agreed to change the plates for him,” says Gethin,
| "Why would you do that?" |
which surprises Ffion.
| "It's a chance for revenge!" |
“I don’t intend to actually change them – this is a chance for revenge!”
| Garry arrives, bearing red roses |
They watch as Garry walks into the Deri, carrying a bunch of red roses for Dani; just then, Mathew comes hurrying downstairs with his luggage,
| "I'm staying with a friend" |
and tells Garry that he is staying with a friend for a couple of nights. Garry is perfectly happy about this as long as ‘the boss’ approves.
| "You don't have to tell him!" |
Mathew urges Dani, “It’s not too late – you don’t have to tell him!”
| "You'd better stay away" |
but she advises him to stay away.
| Cadno gets a twinge of backache . . . |
When Cadno gets up from the table, after their cup of tea, she has a twinge of backache.
| . . . so Gwyneth proffers her Reiki skills |
Gwyneth proposes to give her a session of Reiki treatment in payment for the lavender.
| Dani is off her food |
Dani is not eating any lunch and looks very apprehensive; she says that she is not hungry. Garry is concerned and asks her what is wrong, as she has been quiet since he got home.
| "Tell me what's on your mind" |
“Just tell me what’s on your mind.”
| "I had it all worked out" |
“I planned it all out – what I was going to say, but – it’s just left me,” she begins. He does not understand; “Neither do I,” Dani continues, “You know, I must be very stupid – or I just don’t want to believe it.
| "You're the father" |
“Sioned’s baby – you’re the father. Don’t try to deny it, because I saw you and Sioned at the hospital, so I know – I know about the money you gave her – I know everything.
| "Just be honest with me" |
“All I’m asking you now is that you are honest with me.”
| "Sorry to disturb you, Linda" |
Diane returns to Bryntirion to collect a file, as the fire officer wants more information. “Don’t think I’m interfering, but I couldn’t help notice that something was awkward between you and DJ this morning.
| "You can tell me if something is bothering you" |
“You can tell me if something is worrying you.” Linda reassures her that there is nothing wrong. Diane goes on, “If you want help to wash or get dressed, it can be difficult to ask your son.
| "I'll talk to DJ about it" |
“I’ll talk to DJ and sort everything out.”
| "It was just one night" |
Garry confesses that it was just one night; “It didn’t mean anything.”
| Dani knows what is coming next |
Dani knows what he is going to say, that it was a mistake, one thing led to another and he has regretted it ever since.
“Garry, I don’t believe another word,” she says,
| "I've tried to get Sioned out of our lives" |
but he swears that since the night it happened he has done everything he can to get Sioned out of their lives, and that is why he gave her the money and thought she would move away.
| "You're not the only one!" |
“It’s only now that I realise how naïve I’ve been.” Dani remarks that he is not the only one.
| "I always push away the people I love most" |
“I always do this – I push away the people I love most,” he continues, “I don’t think I deserve . . .”
| "Don't try that psycho-babble!" |
She screams, “Don’t try that psycho-babble! We’re supposed to be adults, to take responsibility.” He argues that every lie he has told her has been to safeguard what they have got, not to deceive her, and asks if she thinks it is still worth saving.
| She bursts out crying |
She breaks down in tears
| "You'll be glad to know she's lost the baby" |
as he stresses, “Sioned doesn’t mean anything to me – there isn’t, and there never was, a future for us. You’ll be glad to know she’s lost the baby.”
| "What sort of person would be glad?" |
Dani is horrified; “Glad? What sort of person would be glad to hear something like that? I’ve been through it!” He replies that she has a right to be angry, but she rages, “I don’t need your permission to be angry.
| "What would you do if . . .?" |
“What would you do, Garry, if I’d slept with someone else – and I was carrying his child?”
| "I would kill him!" |
He looks at her and states quite unequivocally, “I’d kill him – the first chance I got!”
| Eifion is about to do some more stirring |
Gwyneth has just completed Cadno’s half-hour Reiki session when Eifion comes in again. When told that it was in return for the lavender, he asks innocently what lavender that was,
| "I just burnt those black bags outside" |
and then casually mentions that he has just burnt the contents of those black bags outside.
| "No-one told me it was lavender" |
“No-one told me that it was lavender. There was tons of stuff in those bags,”
| "It was an act of goodwill" |
and when Gwyneth protests that it was an act of goodwill, he comments, “You have no goodwill, Gwyneth – you’re not the little old lady of Kidwelly.
| "I'd rather burn it than let a thief take it!" |
“I saw you stealing the lavender, and I’d rather burn it than let a thief take it!”
| "I don't deserve you" |
Garry and Dani sit in silence, then he says, “I don’t deserve you – it’s true.
| "You would never do something like that" |
“The worst thing is knowing that you would never put our relationship in danger by doing something so terrible.” She asks whether he could forgive her if she had been unfaithful. He nods, admitting, “I’d forgive you for anything – I love you.”
| Dani is goignout for some fresh air |
Dani once more bursts into tears and tells him that she could not forgive herself, but he stops her, and she goes out for some fresh air.
| Diane explains what she intends to do |
Diane tells DJ that every woman wants to feel special; “That’s why I’ve offered to help her with washing and dressing. It would be nice for her to have a woman help her with personal stuff like that – she feels awkward asking you. I don’t want to interfere, but it was obvious that it worrying her.”
| "She wants me to help her die" |
DJ sighs and says that Diane does not understand; “Mam was not worried about washing and dressing – she was asking me to help her die.”
| "You can't do that, DJ!" |
Diane insists that he cannot do this, as it is against the law, for one thing.
| He will feel guilty, whatever he does |
“It doesn’t matter what I do, I will still feel guilty,” admits DJ, “I don’t know what’s worse – feeling guilty for helping her die, or feeling guilty for refusing to help her.”
| "He admitted everything" |
Dani has gone round to see Gethin, telling him that Garry admitted everything, and took the blame. “He said it only happened once, and that he has regretted it ever since.” Gethin enquires how he took the news about Mathew,
| "Dani, you should have told him" |
and is disturbed to hear that she could not bring herself to tell him.
“If you’re going to be soft with him, he’ll think he can do it again – is that what you want?”
| Dani believes Garry |
She replies that he has promised, and she believes him; “You believed him before, and look what happened,” Gethin reminds her.
“But I believe him when he says he loves me, and I believe that he regrets it, like I regret it,” she pleads;
| "You shouldn't forgive him so easily" |
he insists that she should not forgive Garry so easily. She is adamant that she does not want revenge, but he is insistent that if she wants to give it another go,
| "You must make sure he doesn't do it again" |
she has to make sure that Garry will not do it again
DJ announces to his mother that he has made the decision about the favour she asked of him;
| "I'm sorry – I can't do it" |
“I’m sorry – I can’t do it.”
| "It's all right, you know best" |
Linda smiles and tells him that he knows best.
| Garry has a stiff drink |
Garry is drinking whisky when Dani returns to the flat;
| "I'm sorry, Dani" |
again he says that he is sorry.
| "How do I know you won't do it again?" |
Dani whimpers, “I know – I want to forgive you, but how can I be sure you won’t do it again?” When he promises, she reminds him that he has said that before; “How will I really know?” she asks.
| "I'll break off all contact with Sioned" |
Garry says that he will break off all contact with Sioned; “And what if there’s someone else?” is the next question.
| "It's the only thing that's important to me" |
He pledges, “I’m telling you, being a good husband and a good father is the only thing that’s important to me now.
| "On our baby's life, I promise you" |
“On our baby’s life, I promise you I’ll never hurt you like this again.”
| He embraces Dani |
Once more he assures her that he is sorry and embraces her, as she cries bitterly.
