10 July 2017

"Hey, Sioned!"
Garry is posting a letter, and calls across to Sioned, who tries to ignore him.   He wants a word with her,
"I've got nothing to say to you"
but she insists she has nothing to say to him;  he takes her to the alley and wants to make arrangements for tomorrow;
Garry moves to a more private location
“Our first scan, what time is it?”
"There is no 'us', is there?"
“Our scan?   There is no ‘us’, is there?” she replies, “You made that absolutely clear – if you reject me, you reject both of us!”
Someone appears to be watching
Eileen happens to come out of the flat just as Sioned adds threateningly, “Don’t you dare turn up at the hospital tomorrow!” and walks away.
Macs looks for any local jobs
At Y Felin, Macs is looking on the laptop to see if there are any local jobs, but stresses that he is only looking.
"The obvious place is the new school"
When Siôn asks if he has considered the obvious place – the new school, Macs thinks he is joking;
"Ffion and Gaynor would not share your enthusiasm"
“I don’t think Ffion or Gaynor would share your enthusiasm, not with my history.”
"But you've moved on now"
His father points out that history is exactly what it is, and that Macs has now moved on.   “If you’re considering moving back, you will be foolish not to try for a job there.   If nothing else, it will show everyone you’re ready to take charge of your life again.”
"All right, Dad, I'll think about it"
Macs agrees he will think about it.
Jim has been let off with a warning
Jim comes back to the shop, wearing his suit, and tells Eileen he has been given a warning, and, as long as he does not do anything stupid during the next few weeks, he should be all right.   “Adrian has got bail and gone home to Scotland out of the way, thank goodness!”
Things are starting to go their way
Eileen assures him that it is all over now, and things are starting to go their way.   He must be positive and strong, like the old Jim – and she is not the only one who misses the old Jim.
"We should go and see Colin"
She continues, “We’re a team, don’t forget, and as a team, I think we should go and see Colin and apologise together.”   She goes to visit Sioned, just as Garry enters the shop.
Jim congratulates him as he has heard Garry is going to be a father again;
Garry wonders which baby this is about
Garry appears anxious, until Jim adds, “You and Dani must be thrilled!”
Jim tries to work out the price of 4 pints of full cream milk
Jim cannot find a price for the bottle of milk, and Garry seems to be in a hurry, so he walks out without it;
"I never thought I'd be glad to see Colin back here!"
he comments that he never thought he would be glad to see Colin back here.
"Just say what you have to say, Mam"
“Just say what you have to say, and go – I’ve got stuff to do!” Sioned snaps at her mother.
"I was only thinking of your happiness"
Eileen wants to apologise, stressing she was only thinking of Sioned’s happiness, but she should never have suggested what she did.   She is sorry that she took it out on Sioned,
"Can you come with me to the hospital?"
who replies, “This doesn’t mean that I’ve forgiven you, but there is something you can do for me.   The first scan is tomorrow at the hospital – are you free?”
Of course, Eileen is delighted
Eileen readily agrees to go with her.
Ffion and Arwen come into the shop
Ffion and Arwen come into the shop;  Jim is putting prices on the stock, and informs her that the carrots are now out the back.
Macs waves to Arwen . . .
Macs enters, sees Arwen and waves to her;
. . . and Arwen waves to Macs
she waves back.   He picks up her cuddly toy and hands it back to her;
"What are you doing?"
Ffion suddenly notices, and demands what he is doing.   She orders him not to touch Arwen,
Ffion rapidly leaves the shop
and bundles her out of the shop.
"I'm going to be at that scan tomorrow"
In Sioned’s flat, Garry tells her, “Like it or not, I’m going to be at that scan tomorrow – and every other one.   I’ve got rights as a father, and I’ve paid more than enough!   So stop this nonsense!   If this is the way you want to be, I shall phone the hospital to see what time it is, and I’ll see you tomorrow!”
"You've got a lot to lose if you show up"
Sioned warns him, “Use your head, Garry – you’ve got a lot to lose if you show up.   If we were a normal couple, there wouldn’t be any problem!   You think that filling my pockets with money is the answer.   Go home, and make up your mind –
She issues an ultimatum
“either you’re going to be part of our lives, or I swear that this baby will never find out who his father is!”
The shop is in disarray
Eileen returns to the shop and finds the place in a mess;
"I'm reorganising – it will be fantastic"
Jim explains, “You can’t make an omelette without cracking a few eggs – I’m reorganising and putting prices on stock – it will be fantastic.”
Eileen is more concerned with Sioned’s scan tomorrow;  “Tonight I am going to buy the biggest steak in Carmarthen, and you can come with me.
"I thought we could call at the hospital"
“I thought we could call in at the hospital.”
"We can't afford to close the shop"
Jim seems very reluctant to do this, arguing that they cannot close the shop and lose business.
Macs is preoccupied
In the Deri, Macs appears to be in a world of his own, and tells his father that he is not hungry.
"What's happened to my positive son?"
Siôn want to know what happened to the positive son he had this morning, and asks what is bothering him.
"Ffion was at the shop, and Arwen was with her"
Macs replies, “I went to the shop, and Ffion was there – Arwen was with her –
"I can't believe how much she's grown"
“I can’t believe how much she’s grown.   The last time I saw her, she was a baby.”
"Right, let's have the menu, then"
He denies that he is upset, saying that he made the decision and is still happy with it;  then he asks for the menu, in order to change the subject.
Colin is going to rest his eyes
In the hospital, Colin is feeling very tired;  “You tell me all the gossip, and I will just close my eyes for a minute.”
Britt paints a very rosy picture of Chester
Britt informs him that Chester prepares and opens the chip shop every day – as he is determined to pay back every last penny to the college account, and that he seems to have matured over the last few days.
“It is all thanks to Hannah, of course, but I’m not sure how he’s going to cope when she leaves,” Britt continues,
"I don't know how I'd cope without you, Colin Evans"
“And I don’t know how I would cope without you, Colin Evans – I love you so much.”
Eileen arrives . . .
 Then she is aware of Eileen, standing in the doorway.
. . . and receives a less than cordial welcome
“I’m glad to hear that you’re concerned about him at least,” Britt remarks, sarcastically adding,
Britt will not be forgiving her
“Those chocolates will sort everything out – but I won’t be forgiving you!”
Colin opens his eyes and tells Eileen there is something he wants to say;
"Go and get a cup of tea, Britt"
he encourages Britt to go and get a cup of tea, but she refuses.
"Didn't I make myself clear earlier?"
Garry again appears in Sioned’s flat;  “Didn’t I make myself clear earlier?” she demands,
Garry has brought a peace-offering
but this time he has brought her a gift.
The baby's name can be engraved on it
She is surprised when she opens it, to find two hearts on a chain, one engraved ‘Mam’;
He bought it as soon as he knew she was pregnant
he tells her he bought it the morning after she told him she was pregnant.
“The idea was to have the baby’s name on the other heart,” he explains, “Anyway, I just wanted to give it to you.”
"Why don't we go to the hospital together?"
Sioned decides they will have to give the baby a short name, as there is not much room there.   Garry asks her, “Why don’t we go to the hospital together, tomorrow, to meet our son or daughter?   Then I’ll take you out for lunch – somewhere nice – you can choose a place, and we can start thinking of names.”
"The scan is at 10 o'clock"
She reveals that she has already started making a list of names, and informs him that the scan is at 10 o’clock.
Sioned's scheme appears to be paying off at last
When he leaves, Sioned is wearing a smug smile.
Arwen is playing . . .
At Cysgod y Glyn, Arwen is playing when the buzzer sounds;  Ffion lets in the visitor without checking who it is.
. . . when Macs appears
She is far from happy to find Macs standing in the doorway.
"Get out, or I'll phone the police!"
“What are you doing here?   Get out or I’ll phone the police!” she threatens, but he assures her he only wants a moment of her time, and then he will go.
She protects her daughter from him
Ffion holds Arwen protectively.
"I see that Jim is not here"
Colin comments that Jim is not with Eileen, and she explains that he is afraid of facing Colin;  nevertheless he insists he wants to see Jim.
“I’m surprised you had the nerve to come here, after what you did to Sam!” snarls Britt, but Eileen points out she did not do anything,
"I'm sorry I didn't admit it earlier"
and that she is terribly sorry she did not admit sooner what had happened.
"I would have understood"
Colin says that if she had told him, he would have understood, and is upset that he was not there to say goodbye to his father.
"He had good company on his last night"
“But it’s a great comfort, knowing that he had such good company on his last night, and that’s thanks to you.”
"I'm applying for a job at the new school"
Ffion has taken Arwen to her room;  Macs assures her he did not want to frighten her, but wanted her to know that he is going to try for a job at the new school.   He is telling her before she hears from someone else;
"I have changed, Ffion!"
he emphasises that he has changed and is ready to take charge of his life again.
She will do all she can to stop his plan
“Let’s make this clear,” Ffion rages, “I’ll do everything in my power to make sure you don’t get that job!   You’re not welcome at the school – or anywhere else in Cwmderi!   I know what your game is – leave her alone!
"You'll never be her father!"
“You’ll never be her father – don’t fool yourself!   Off you go!”
The customers are delaying Jim's reorganisation
In the back room of the shop, Jim is still reorganising the stock, and comments that he could do it much quicker if he was not interrupted by customers.
"Colin asked to see you"
Eileen has gifts for Sioned and the baby in her bag, and says that Colin is hoping to leave hospital at the end of the week;  “You need to go and see him – he asked,” she says,
Jim does not want to go
but Jim is still reluctant.
"Arwen is amazing, Dad!"
“I can’t believe how amazing Arwen is, Dad!” says Macs, “She’s perfect – but I have no hope of getting to know her.
"But there is no hope"
“Ffion made that perfectly clear – there is no hope.”
"When she sees that you've changed . . ."
Siôn is confident that when the Ffion sees that he has changed, her attitude will soften, but is told, “No, I don’t deserve to be her father.”
Eileen takes gifts to Sioned
Eileen takes her purchases – photo frames for the scans
"Garry is going with me . . ."
and a babygro – to Sioned, who reveals that Garry is going to the scan with her,
". . . so I don't need you"
so she will not need her mother there;
"See – I was right!"
“I told you that Garry still had feelings for me, and I was right!” she boasts.
Eileen is disappointed, and leaves the flat
Her mother is not pleased to hear this, and leaves without another word.
