28 July 2017

Gaynor hears someone coming
Gaynor is still investigating the laptop and its contents when she hears the front door and quickly closes it.
"I forgot my laptop"
When he comes in, Elgan tells her he forgot his laptop, and she comments that he must be lost without it.
"Cwmderi's patients will be after me"
“Sorry, I have to go, or Cwmderi’s patients will be after me – see you at lunchtime,” he says,
"What is the matter"
but then notices she is anxious,
"I'm just tired, that's all"
which she puts down to being tired.
Things are rather tense
The atmosphere between Hywel and Sheryl is rather strained;
"Let's take Esther to the park"
“Look, I don’t want to argue with you – why don’t you take the day off and we can take Esther to the park?” he suggests, “Kicking your heels here isn’t going to change anything.”   She replies that walking round the park will not change anything either.
"Life has to go on"
“Life has to go on, whether it’s with Wil or not,” he says before walking out;
Mail from Uganda
then Sheryl looks at the post, and finds a letter from Uganda.
Tyler seems to have hidden Iolo's tool bag
Iolo cannot find his tool bag, and Tyler, clad only in a towel, says he does not know where it is, but suggests Iolo could take the day off and they could go for lunch somewhere, or even stay in.
He is not enamoured by the idea of a picnic
Then Iolo’s phone rings, and he tells Kelly that they are rather busy at the moment.   “Picnic?   Yes, that sounds great.   OK, see you later.”
"I wanted a nice day out with you"
Tyler is rather disappointed, as he wanted a nice day out with Iolo.   “This is how it is going to be from now on – Kelly clicking her fingers – that’s how it seems to me,” he moans,
"Come on – it's only a picnic"
and Iolo insists that it is only a picnic.   “I don’t want to go – she’ll only witter on and on about babies,” Tyler continues, but finally capitulates when Iolo points out that it will only be a couple of hours.
The contents of the letter affect Sheryl . . .
Sheryl becoming very upset
. . . and she becomes quite emotional
by what she reads in the letter.
"Are you feeling better?"
Gaynor meets Anita in the street, and asks her if she is better, since she saw the doctor.
"Has the doctor been talking about me?"
Anita demands if Dr Pritchard has been talking about her, but Gaynor alleges that she saw Anita coming out of the surgery.
"The appointment went all right, didn't it?"
“I’m sure it must be a comfort, being able to confide in him – the appointment went all right didn’t it?”
"Does he know you're grilling his patients?"
“Going out with the doctor doesn’t give you the right to be nosy!” objects Anita, “Does he know you’re grilling his patients like this?   If I were you, I’d be careful what you say – you don’t want to land the doctor in hot water, do you?”
An idyllic rural picnic-spot
Out in a field, Kelly has prepared a picnic, but Tyler still looks reluctant.
"It's amazing we get on so well"
“What we three have is really special,” begins Kelly, “Seriously, it's amazing we get on so well – we’ll be in and out of each other’s houses like yo-yos once we have a baby.”
"We can't pass him round like a parcel"
Tyler stresses that they will have to be organised, and cannot pass him around, like pass the parcel.
"Don't fancy a lodger, do you?"
“You don’t fancy a lodger, do you?” Kelly enquires, “I’m housetrained!”   Iolo regards this as hilarious, to think of them all living under the same roof, but Tyler predicts that they would drive each other mad.
Sheryl reads the letter again
Sheryl comes downstairs, carrying the baby monitor, and reads the letter again;
"It's no good, sitting here crying"
when Hywel comes in,  he tells her that sitting here crying makes no sense, so she shows him the letter, which is from Esther’s biological grandmother.
"I'm writing to thank you"
He reads out, in English, “I’m writing to thank you for the life you’re giving Esther.   As you know, losing Esther’s mother, my daughter, shook our world.
"No parent should have to bury their child"
“No parent should have to bury their child, and yet that’s what we had to do.   We still miss her daily,
"You have taken her into your hearts"
“but it fills us with joy to know Esther is safe and loved.   You have taken our grand-daughter into your hearts – we thank you from the bottom of ours.”
"How could she find the strength to write that?"
Sheryl wonders how she found the strength to write that, and feels ashamed of herself.   “You told me several times that Wil is healthy and happy – that’s what matters!”
The picnic continues, out in the sunshine
Out in the field, Iolo says that he loves avocado, but Kelly points out that is only because Nigella tells him to love it,
"You'd love corned beef, if it was trendy"
insisting that if corned beef were trendy, he would love that, too.   Iolo thanks her for today, saying that it has been great, “Hasn’t it, Tyler?”   Tyler agrees, but only half-heartedly.   “I could get used to someone cooking for me every day,” says Iolo,
"If I moved in, I could cook for you"
and she points out that if she moved in, she would possibly cook for him, perhaps not for ever, but just while the baby is little.
“I could move in with you when I’m seven or eight months pregnant, so you can be part of the pregnancy,” she enthuses,
"It will help the bonding process"
“Then when the baby arrives, it will help the bonding process.   It would save us money because we’d only need one of everything.   What’s the point of buying two cots, two prams?   Think about it.”
"That's not what we agreed"
Tyler at last makes a comment, “No, thats not what we agreed!   If it is not in the contract, it is not going to happen – that’s not what I want!”
"It would only be for a few weeks"
When Kelly stresses that it would only be for a few weeks,
"Which part of 'NO' don't you understand?"
he shouts, “What part of ‘NO’ don’t you understand?   It’s a stupid idea – if shes moving in, Im moving out!”
Sheryl re-evaluates her position
Hywel has made a cup of tea, and Sheryl tells him, “She’d do anything to be able to phone her daughter, like I do with Wil.
"I won't argue with Darren"
“I’ll Skype him later, and talk to Darren, but not to argue with him.”
"How about going to Canada?"
Hywel suggests that they can go one better than that – they can go to Canada to visit him;  “You two need to spend time together.   Once you make amends and sort it out, he would love to see his mother.   Do you know what?   A month away from this place will do us good – or two – why not?”
She can think of several problems with that
Sheryl begins to enumerate the problems;  “Salon, CwmFM, money,” but he insists that is nothing they cannot sort out, and proposes that they start making arrangements.
"I'll check out some prices"
He will check the prices of flights on the laptop, but Sheryl says there is something she needs to do.
"Come on – we haven't had pudding yet!"
Iolo tries to salvage the picnic, but the others want to leave.   Kelly is disappointed that Iolo agrees with Tyler;
"I shouldn't have mentioned it"
“Forget it – I shouldn’t have mentioned it,” she grumbles.   Iolo insist that they have to be able to discuss things, to raise any matter.
"We're supposed to be a family, not a town council"
Tyler protests that they are supposed to be a family, not a town council.   Iolo replies that they will have to make decisions, like what time he goes to bed, how often he is allowed sweets, and have to respect each other’s opinions.   He thinks that Tyler should apologise to Kelly, which he does in an unconvincing way,
Kelly does not look totally reconciled
but there still appears to be animosity between them as they settle down uneasily for their pudding.
"Aren't you going to eat anything?"
Elgan is concerned that Gaynor is not eating any lunch;  she was pale this morning and off her food, so he suggests she should make an appointment, but she insists there is nothing wrong with her.
"I know you're recording your patients"
“I know that you’re recording your patients – don’t deny it because I’ve seen the files!   I was there, and Eileen, and Anita – what is going on?   This is usual, is it – recording people without their permission?”
"If you're doing research work"
He replies, “Yes, if you are doing research work, but I do not discuss work outside the surgery.”
"What research is this, then?"
Gaynor demands what research this is, but he points out that it is complicated and also confidential, which she describes as very convenient.
"Would you show me your pupils' paperwork?"
“If I asked you to show me paperwork relating to your pupils, would you show it to me?” he enquires.   She insists that he cannot go behind people’s backs without permission, as they trust him, and indeed she trusted him.
"It was so unnerving!"
“It was so unnerving, listening to my own voice,” she adds, but he accuses her of overreacting, and then begins to explain that the research is trying to work out how people describe their symptoms.   They would not talk so openly if they knew they were on tape – and then the information is analysed.
She does not look very satisfied
Gaynor is not satisfied with his explanation, and the episode has upset her.   “If it make you feel better, I’ll delete your file, OK?” he offers.
"I almost didn't come"
Anita has been asked to come to the salon, and warns Sheryl that she almost did not come,
"I just want to say sorry"
but Sheryl emphasises that she does not want to argue, but rather to say sorry.   She acknowledges that Anita was only trying to do the right thing, and did what she thought was best for her family.
"Perhaps I was a bit hasty"
Anita concedes that perhaps she should have spoken to Sheryl first, and is offered a cut and blowdry on the house.
Hywel expresses surprise
Hywel enters and is amazed to see the two of them speaking civilly to each other;  he puts the kettle on,
"I spoke to Dani about running the salon"
and says that he has spoken to Dani about running the salon while they are away.
Anita is troubled by this news
Anita is perturbed to hear that they are going to Canada, afraid that Sheryl will try to change Wil’s mind,
"Darren knows all about it"
but is assured that this has been arranged with Darren’s permission.
"That was a trap!"
When they arrive home, Tyler insists that the picnic was a trap so that she could move in here,
"You're going over the top here, Ty"
but Iolo considers that he is going over the top, as all Kelly wants is what is best for their baby.   She is excited and nervous, but Tyler admits that he feels the same.
"I find it difficult sometimes"
He comments, “I do find it difficult sometimes, and hope that it all settles down.”
"I'll do the washing-up"
Gaynor tells the doctor to go back to work and she will do the washing-up;  she says that she is meeting a friend later and does not know when she will be back, and furthermore she wants the key back.
She is not happy with his explanation
“You can waffle on about research all you like, but it doesn’t stand up,” she announces,
"I don't think this research exists!"
“Show me this research, because I don’t think it exists!”
Elgan starts to 'lose his cool'
Elgan is becoming irritated;  “Right, I’ve tried being patient – what do you think is going on?” he demands,
"I turned down a good job for you!"
“I thought we had something special – now you’re making false allegations!   I turned down a good job for you – you’ve let me down!”
"You can't walk away from this"
He heads for the door, but Gaynor insists that he cannot walk away from this;  “We need to talk,” she says, but he replies that if she cannot trust him it is over.
He returns his key before he leaves
He returns his key and walks out of the door.
