| Josh has been out in the middle of the night |
During the night, Josh creeps into Maes-y-Deri while Kath is asleep on the sofa; he is surprised to see her there,
| He pulls the blanket over Kath |
and covers her with the blanket.
| "Keep it down, Auntie Anita!" |
When Anita hears what has been planned, she squeals incredulously, but Kelly asks her to be quiet; “I’m a bit delicate today. I’m deadly serious about it.”
| "I don't know what to say" |
Anita does not know what to say,
| "How about congratulating me?" |
so Kelly suggests, “How about – nice one, I’m so happy for you, Kelly?”
Anita unconvincingly agrees that she is happy, but she is in shock;
| "Two fathers?" |
“You – and the boys? Two fathers?”
| "Twice as much love for the baby" |
Kelly replies that they love each other, and it means twice as much love for the baby. “Isn’t that better than a father from test tube X, who is never going to know his child? This is a win-win situation!”
| "I must be showing my age" |
Anita is sorry that she sounded negative, and supposes that she is showing her age. “No,” Kelly tells her, “It shows that you love me. Think about it – you’re going to be a grandmother again, like!”
| "A little baby in the house again!" |
Anita realises that there is going to be a little baby in this house once more, and Kelly realises that she has to run to the bathroom again.
| "I can't sleep unless I'm in the caravan" |
Josh reveals to Kath that he was out wandering during the night; “I can’t sleep unless I’m in the caravan – I never have been able to.
| "Only a matter of time before I go home" |
“If you put wheels under this house, I’d have half a chance! But my chest is better, so it’s only a matter of time before I go home.”
He asks why Kath was sleeping on the sofa;
| "Nicky uses my bed as a trampoline" |
“Nicky wakes up in the middle of the night and uses my bed as a trampoline!” she answers, “I’m better off sleeping here – no-one disturbs me.” As Josh tells her that he covered her with the blanket,
| Mark enters, unnoticed |
Mark has silently entered the front door.
By so doing, he misses Kath pointing out, “It was only a kiss – don’t let that ruin our friendship, please.”
| The time has come for Hannah to leave for Australia |
Chester is working in the chip shop with his mother when Hannah comes in; “It’s here, is it? The day you say goodbye?” says Britt. Chester adds that it is only temporary.
| "I really need some peace to pack" |
| "A nice one – but a distraction" |
Hannah asks him if he will not call at Bryntirion, as she really needs some peace to pack. “You’ll be a distraction –
“a nice one, but a distraction. I’ll call in here later to say ta-ra. Thanks for understanding.”
| Chester exhibits his stiff upper lip |
Chester tries to retain his composure
| "She will be on the other side of the planet" |
Britt comments that in two days time, she will be on the other side of the planet, and that she will miss Hannah; Chester makes no comment.
| "It's good practice for morning sickness" |
Kelly is at number 7, where she drinks a glass of water and is not feeling much better. “It’s good practice for morning sickness,” she says, and asks, “What couldn’t you tell me last night that’s so important?”
| They are going to use Iolo's sperm . . . |
Tyler explains that they have decided to use Iolo’s sperm.
| . . . and Kelly becomes angry |
She is angry that massive decision like this has been made without her input; “I may be a bit old-fashioned,
| "You should have discussed it with me" |
“but I would have appreciated you discussing it with me first!”
Iolo had predicted that she would not be happy, and enquires,
| "Are you unhappy because it's me?" |
“Are you unhappy because we didn’t discuss it, or because it’s me?” She replies that they were going to make every decision together, but then has to rush to the bathroom,
| She has to dash upstairs |
advising them, “Try not to make too many decisions while I’m in there!”
| "Listen – this is going to sound weird" |
Mark returns to Maes-y-Deri, and tells Vicky and Debbie, “This is going to sound weird, to say the least. I heard Mam and Josh talking –
| "They've had an 'incident'!" |
“they’ve had an ‘incident’! Josh mentioned it.”
| Debbie is rather dubious |
Debbie is sceptical about this, but he insists that is what he heard, and asks where Kath is.
He is told she has gone back to work today,
| "How do we know she's not upstairs with him?" |
but Vicky suggests, “How do we know she’s not upstairs with him?”
| "I'm really disappointed" |
Kelly comes back downstairs at number 7, saying that she is really disappointed. Iolo deduces, “Obviously because we didn’t choose Tyler,” but she emphasises it is because they did not discuss it with her.
| "Right,. who would you choose, then?" |
He puts her on the spot, demanding who she would choose – Tyler or him? “We’ll use the sperm of whoever you decide.”
| He does not like what he hears |
She answers, “For some reason – no idea why, right – I thought we’d be using Tyler’s sperm – but only because he’s more . . . I don’t know . . . more chilled. Do you know what?
| "I'm going before I say anything else to upset you" |
“I’m going before I say anything else to upset you!”
| Kath pops into the Deri for a drink |
When Kath comes into the Deri for a drink, Vicky asks her,
| "Is this a secret rendezvous?" |
“Is this is a secret rendezvous, or is it a coincidence?” indicating Josh, who is sitting, reading the Western Post. “It’s OK, I won’t tell anyone.’
| "What have you been telling them?" |
Kath goes over to Josh, and asks him why he did that, after what they said this morning; she thought they were friends.
| Josh does not know what she is talking about |
He is at a loss to know what she is talking about, but she walks out of the pub.
| "I'll contact you the minute I land" |
In the chippy, Hannah assures Chester that she will contact him the minute she lands. He tries to sound confident as he tells her the time will fly past. “You’re full of surprises, aren’t you?” she comments,
| "I didn't expect you to be so cool" |
“I wasn’t expecting you to be so cool about today.” He did not himself know how he would be, either,
| "Part of me wants to cry and beg you not to go" |
and admits that part of him wants to cry and beg her not to go, but he will not be doing that.
| All this emotion is too much for Britt |
Britt finds this parting so emotional that she bursts into tears.
| "I thought that Tyler would offer his . . . services" |
Anita asks Kelly which one she would have chosen, and she replies, “I just took it for granted that Tyler would offer his . . . services. I only said that Tyler was more chilled.
| "I've really messed up, haven't I?" |
“I’ve really messed up, haven’t I? If you’d only seen the look on Iolo’s face –
| "I'm so stupid!" |
“I’m so stupid!”
| "Maybe you're not ready for this" |
“If you’re arguing this early on, maybe you’re not ready to take responsibility for such a big deal at the moment,” advises Anita.
| Then Tyler calls . . . |
There is a knock on door, and Tyler comes in;
| . . . and Kelly looks apprehensive |
Kelly looks decidedly uneasy.
Hannah does her best to comfort Britt,
| "You're the best thing that's happened to Chester" |
and Chester comes back in, having put her luggage in the taxi. “You’re the best thing that’s happened to Chester, ever!” Britt tells her,
| "You really are coming back, aren't you?" |
“He’ll never last five weeks without you – you really are coming back, aren’t you?”
| "Of course I am" |
Hannah replies that of course she is, and Chester tells his mother to warn the taxidriver she is coming.
| "You've missed being at home . . ." |
“I know you’ve missed being at home – your family, the sun, the beach, the food,
| ". . . those surfers with bulging muscles . . ." |
those surfers with bulging muscles,” Chester says, “But it will be nothing compared to the longing you’ll have to come back to
| ". . . this wet and boring dump . . ." |
“this wet and boring dump, to the boy who works in a chip shop –
| ". . . his mother, who's obviously bonkers!" |
“with his mother, who’s obviously bonkers!” Rather hesitantly, he adds, “Am I right?”
| A final hug before they part . . . |
She nods, and he takes her hand to lead her to the taxi; after giving her a big hug, she gets in and the taxi leaves.
| . . . leaving Chester, and his mother, distraught |
Britt looks on the verge of crying again.
| Josh wants to know what is going on |
Josh marches into the Deri and demands from Mark what is going on, as Debbie’s behaviour is strange, to say the least, and Kath refuses to talk to him.
| "If I hear that you've hurt Mam . . ." |
“If I hear that you’ve hurt Mam . . .” Mark begins, but Josh does not know what he is talking about. “The incident!” snarls Mark, “What did you do to her?” I heard you talking this morning.”
| "The kiss was the incident!" |
Then the penny drops; “The kiss,” says Josh, “That was the incident!” but Mark insists he will ask his mother to see if she agrees.
| "Come on, then!" |
“I doubt if she’ll be happy, but it’s fine with me,” Josh replies, “Come on, then!”
| "I love Iolo to bits" |
Kelly is at pains to point out to Tyler that she has nothing against Iolo; “I love him to bits – you know that. It’s just that you and I are similar – we don’t take any notice of what people say –
| "We're both stronger characters" |
“we’re stronger characters, who take risks. Not always the right ones, but it would make an interesting little person. We both have a colourful past – peas in a pod!”
| "That's why you and Iol are the best match" |
Tyler cautions, “That’s why are you and Iol are the best match. You and I like to take risks – and maybe Iol is too cautious sometimes –
| "A combination of the two" |
“so don’t you think a combination of two would be best? It’s a chance to raise someone who knows when to take risks, and when to step back.”
| Anita listens with interest |
Anita has been listening with interest to this conversation.
| "When did you get so sensible, then?" |
“When did you get so sensible, then?” enquires Kelly, and he wonders whether she still wants to go ahead. She confirms that she does, but demands how she is going to make it right with Iolo;
| "Have I stuffed things up?" |
“Have I stuffed things up?” she asks, and Tyler answer is that there is only one way to find out.
| "Mark overheard us this morning" |
Mark and Josh arrive at Maes-y-Deri; Josh explains that Mark overheard them this morning. He tells Debbie, “Don’t be silly – it was only a kiss,”
| "You're a bit old for snogging" |
but she considers them rather old to be snogging.
| Kath takes exception to this remark |
Kath angrily exclaims, “Listen, if Josh and I want to snog, we have every right to do so! Do you understand? We might not be teenagers, but we’re not too old!
| They listen to the tirade . . . |
“It was only a kiss – and we both decided it wouldn’t happen again – didn’t we? So, please, can we get on with our lives now?
| . . . and Debbie seems to be amused by it |
“I’ve managed to give myself a headache – I’m going for lie down, if that’s all right with everyone.”
| "I'm not in the mood, Kelly" |
Kelly goes to number 7 and asks for a minute of Iolo’s time; she apologises for not giving enough thought to what he asked.
| Kelly makes her apologies |
“If I had, I would have realised that you’re right, and that you made the right decision. And, lastly, I’m sorry for hurting you – I hate myself for that!”
| "What changed your mind, then?" |
Iolo asks what changed her mind,
| "It doesn't matter which of you is the father" |
and she replies that she realised it does not matter which of them is the father, and that that they had made the right decision themselves. She adds, “And you’re much more caring, and handsome, than Tyler,
| "More forgiving, perhaps?" |
“and more forgiving, perhaps? And your ears don’t stick out like his do!”
| That little problem is sorted out . . . |
Iolo embraces her, and she promises she will not let them down again;
| . . . and they are all reconciled |
then they engage in a group hug.
