13 July 2017

Hywel is going to treat Sheryl to a posh breakfast
Hywel comes into the house and tells Sheryl he has lemons, eggs from Penrhewl and salmon, as she deserves a treat.
"You're not feeling sorry for me, are you?"
She hopes that he does not feel sorry for her, as the Trichologist has said that there is no change, and points out that there could be a change in the future, as everyone is different.   She has to be positive.
"I need three favours"
“I need a favour,” she tells him, “Well, three, to be honest – the first is for forgiveness, because I’ve already arranged to go and see Ifan without you.   Then, following your advice to do some retail therapy, I got this for Wil.”
The iPad name on the box has been blacked out
She hands him a new iPad, and wants him to set it up;  he queries what she would do without him, then wonders what the third favour is.
"Which wig do I choose?"
She has also purchased two new wigs, and asks him which she should wear today;  he assures her that she will look great in whichever one she chooses.
"Hurry up with that breakfast"
Then she urges him to hurry up with that breakfast.
Elgan is not running as fast as he did
Elgan has been for a run, and reports to Gaynor that he is slowing down;  then he suggests that she should phone the school and say that she is ill, so she can spend the day with him.
"Are you going to write me a doctor's note?"
“Are you going to write me a doctor’s note?” she enquires.
"I saw your car outside"
Anita calls there, as she saw the doctor’s car outside;  “You remember you told me to go for it in the Eisteddfod with the folk song?
"I shall need your help!"
“Well, I am going to – but only with your help!”   Gaynor leaves for work,
"I'll come over in an hour"
and Elgan says that he will come over to Anita in an hour, after he has had a shower.
Anita's enthusiasm outstrips her ability
She is looking forward to this very eagerly.
Dirty boots on Jim's newly-cleaned floor
Eifion, in his dirty boots, brings a box of veg into the shop, leaving in his wake a trail of mud, just as Jim has mopped the floor;
"I shall have to do it again now!"
“I’ll have to do it again now!” Jim moans.
"Don't speak to customers like that!"
Eileen warns him that he must not speak to customers like that;  “If that’s how you treat them, I don’t want you here!”
In order to give him some practice, she poses as a customer;
"Come on – leave it out, Eileen!"
“Good morning, I would like a white loaf please.”   He tells her to leave it out, but she continues, “And I love tins of beans – do you sell them?”
"Well, madam, you're in luck"
Jim gets into the mood;  “Well, madam,” he begins, “If it’s bread and beans you want, you’re in luck!   There are plenty of loaves here, and the beans are over there.”
"That's very good, Jim"
She commends him, and advises him to treat all customers like that.
Colin comes in, looking rather frail . . .
Just then, Colin enters the shop,
. . . and Jim does not look exactly pleased
and Jim glowers at him.
Sheryl cuddles baby Ifan
At number 9, Sheryl is talking to baby Ifan;  she tells Sara that she had a long, tiring day yesterday, and Sara sympathises, as she does not get much sleep.
"No-one gives cuddles like Mam"
“Jason does his share – but no-one gives cuddles like Mam, do they?”
"The power they have over us!"
Sheryl comments that it is totally bonkers, the power these little people have over them;  “I remember Wil at that age,” she says, “Treasure this time, it will be over before you turn around.
"I can't wait to have a cuddle with Wil"
“I can’t wait to have a cuddle with Wil, when he comes home.”
"You've been so brave!"
“You’ve been so brave, letting Wil live on the other side of the world,” Sara tells her, “I don’t know how you’ve been able to do it – I don’t think I could.”   Sheryl replies that she had no choice under the circumstances, and she did what was best for him.
"I understand why you did it, Jim"
Upstairs in the shop flat, Colin says that he has been waiting to talk to Jim;  “I understand why you did what you did – you were only trying to protect your family, like anyone would.
"You weren't to know he'd take advantage of you"
“You weren’t to know he would take advantage of you.   All that matters is that you reacted as you did when you learned the truth –
Jim does not regard himself as "a good man"
“you’re a good man, Jim!   This is important for both of us – from today onwards, we’re not going to talk about what happened again.
"As far as I'm concerned, it's over"
“There is no need – all right?   As far as I’m concerned, it’s over.”
"Yes, Colin, I have been listening on the stairs"
Eileen comes in, and Colin knows that she has been listening on the stairs,
She is called away to serve a customer
then she has to go down to attend to a customer.   Colin remarks to Jim that he noticed standards have been slipping in the shop since he left,
"It's a bit of a shambles down there"
and describes it as, “A bit of a shambles.”   But he is glad that Jim is there to help out until he comes back.
"You always find a way to cope, Sheryl"
Sara tells Sheryl that she admires her;  “You always find a way to cope with whatever life throws at you.   You’ve got Esther and Hywel – and the salon,”
"But I should have Wil as well"
but Sheryl replies that she should have Wil as well, asking if she would still be a good mother to him.
Every boy needs his mother – look at Jason!"
Sara urges her to talk to him when he comes home, as he is older now and will understand.   “Every boy needs his mother – look at Jason – he’d be lost without Diane.”
"It's time he came home"
Sheryl resolves that it is time her son came home, so she can get to know him again;  “After all, his mother knows what is best for him, doesn’t she?”
Anita exhibits her singing skills(?)
At number 10, the singing lesson begins with Anita practising scales, not entirely tunefully.
"Let's concentrate on hitting the notes correctly"
“Before we start on the song that you’ve chosen for the Eisteddfod – Fflat Huw Puw (Huw Puw’s flat) – I think we’ll concentrate on trying to hit individual notes correctly,” suggests Elgan, “Are you familiar with the tune of Had Maip Mon?”   (This appears to mean, “Anglesey Turnip Seed”)
"Yes, Meic used to sing that one!"
She remembers that Meic used to sing that one, and gives her rendition of it,
"That was . . . close"
which Elgan describes it as, “Close – let’s have it again, with a bit more oomph!”
Obviously, Gaynor has heard Anita singing before
His phone sounds, and he finds a text from Gaynor, asking, “How is it?   Piaf or painful?”
Anita does her ear-splitting best
Assailed by Anita’s caterwauling, he thinks it best to concentrate on Huw Puw.
Cadno cannot find any mustard powder
In the shop, Cadno asks if there is any mustard powder, and Eileen is surprised that it is not on the shelf, concluding that Jim must have done something.   She angrily shouts for him to come downstairs,
"Come on, let's go!"
but Eifion wants to go before Jim arrives.
"Sorry about this morning"
When Jim comes in, he apologises for his behaviour this morning;
"You can wear stilettos for all I care!"
“I was wrong – you can wear stilettos for all I care, and I won’t tell anyone.”
"Is it too late to register a pupil for the new school?"
Sheryl comes in and asks Gaynor, who is browsing the shelves, if it is too late to register pupils at the new school;  Gaynor considers it is a bit too early for Esther.
"Wil is coming back here to live"
Sheryl explains that it is for Wil, as he is coming back here to live,
"You must be thrilled!"
and Gaynor comments that she must be thrilled,
"Don't tell anyone, for now"
but is sworn to secrecy for the time being.
"That was much better"
Anita’s session continues, and the good doctor does not look enthusiastic, although he tells her that the latest effort was much better.   Anita insists that she is terrible and might as well accept it;
"I shall need a lot of lessons"
“If I am going to improve, I shall need a lot of lessons.”
"How about tuna salad for lunch?"
She offers him lunch to show her appreciation, and will make a tuna salad.
Dr Pritchard has to rush away
He has just received another text, which causes him some concern;  he apologises that he has to go, and asks her to forgive him.
"Sorry to disturb you, Colin"
Eileen goes to see Colin in the chip shop flat;
"When can you come back to the shop?"
“I know it’s early, but I wanted to ask if you know when you can come back to the shop?”
"Well, I hadn't thought about it"
He has not given the matter much thought, but she explains, “I’m having a bit of trouble there at the moment,” and when he points out she has Jim to help,
"Jim is the trouble!"
she goes on, “Jim is the trouble!”
"Yes, things are a bit 'all over the shop'!"
He comments that he noticed things were a bit ‘all over the shop’, and advises her that if Jim is making things difficult, she should talk to him about it.
"The place isn't the same without you, Col!"
“The place isn’t the same without you, Col,” she says as she leaves.
Sheryl returns from her visit to Sara, reporting that Ifan is lovely;
Hywel has set up the iPad for Wil . . .
Hywel tells her that he has set up the iPad, which will be ideal for Skype when Wil goes back to Canada,
. . . including some photos to remind him of them
and various photos have been put on it, so that he will not forget them.
"It will be difficult when he goes back"
“Listen, Sher, I know it’s going to be difficult when he goes back, but Esther and I are here for you.   We’re doing all right, aren’t we – the three of us?”
She is keeping secrets again – nothing good will come of it
She tries to smile and agree with him.
Gaynor can see there is something on Elgan's mind
Over lunch at Llwyncelyn, Elgan is rather subdued,
"Is everything all right?"
and Gaynor asks him if everything is all right.
"I've been offered a job – a good one!"
He confesses that he has been offered a job, a good one, and she suggests that is usually good news.   “The job is in Edinburgh,” he adds, “It’s a tremendous job – I don’t think I can turn it down!”
"What?   Edinburgh?"
Gaynor looks troubled at this news.
"The shop looks better, Jim"
Anita remarks to Jim that the shop looks a lot better, and he admits that the reason is,
"We've gone back to Eileen's system"
they have gone back to Eileen’s system.   He is told to go and put his feet up for a while, as he has been working hard –
He is told not to do it again
and also warned not to reorganise the shop again.
"It does look like an amazing opportunity"
“It does look like an amazing opportunity,” concedes Gaynor,
He can lecture at the University
and is told that Elgan’s friend, David, has established a working relationship with the medical department at the University.   It is an opportunity for him to lecture, which has always appealed to him.
“You’ll be like Indiana Jones –
"Cwmderi – the Temple of Doom"
“and I’ll be here, in the Temple of Doom,” Gaynor comments, “I’m very pleased for you – it’s a shame that we have to call it a day, just as we were getting to know each other.   It sounds as if you have made your decision.”
"You could come with me . . ."
As he gets up to go, he adds, “We don’t have to call it a day – there is another option – you could come with me!
". . . think about it"
“Think about it.”   He kisses her and leaves,
Gaynor is left in a quandary
while Gaynor looks confused.
