21 July 2017

Elgan half-heartedly packs his books . . .
Elgan is packing books into boxes,
. . . then finds Gaynor's scarf
and suddenly discovers a red scarf, belonging to Gaynor;  he looks downhearted.
"Are you all right, Gaynor?"
At school, Ffion asks Gaynor if she is all right;  Gaynor replies that she did not realise it was so obvious.   Ffion suspects that the emotion of saying goodbye to the old school has affected her;  “But we’ve got the community school to look forward to now.”
"We've split up"
Gaynor confesses that she and Elgan have split up, and that is why her head is all over the place this morning.   “Well, you rescued yourself at the end of your speech, describing us as one big family welcoming new chicks,” comments Ffion, and Gaynor wonders whether she sounded like a mother hen.
"Well, if you want to talk . . ."
Ffion adds, “If you want to talk, you know where I am.”
Sara is visiting the farm
Sara has taken Ifan for a walk to Penrhewl, and Cadno assures her that she enjoys having people there.
"He hardly slept at all last night"
“I just had to leave the house – you’re lucky aren’t you, working outdoors?” comments Sara, and reveals that the baby hardly slept at all last night, so she feels as if she could sleep all day.   Cadno goes to make coffee.
"You're growing up so fast!"
By the shop, Britt tells Aaron that he is growing up very fast;
"She always was a big softie"
Gwyneth, who is nearby, says, “She always was a big softie, under that hard exterior.”
"And you were always cold and selfish!"
Britt replies that Gwyneth was always cold and selfish;  she feel sorry for Gwern.
“He can distinguish real feelings from making a scene over nothing!” snarls Gwyneth.
Colin points out that it is a big day for Britt, with her last little chick leaving primary school.
The noise terrifies Colin
Then he hears the squeal of tyres and suddenly looks terrified, but insists that he is fine;
Aaron likes the sound of chocolate cake
he proposes going to the shop to buy a chocolate cake to celebrate the end of term.
Bobi investigates the under-sink cupboard . . .
As Sara and Cadno sit on the sofa, talking, Bobi is looking in the cupboard under the sink;  Sara says that she has had an abortion in the past, knows what it is like and would never do it again.
. . . as his mother chats
Looking at the baby, she is glad she made the decision she did.
Bobi is sorting through the items of cleaning materials, and finds the bottle of pills, among other things.
Cadno muses on the transience of life
Cadno recalls she read an article about life being too short, but there is not a lot she can do about that.
"Well, I think it's time I left"
Sara thinks it is about time she left, as Ifan is asleep at last.
He even tries to get the lid off
Bobi is attempting to undo the cap of the pill bottle.
"Chocolate!"
Macs has brought three icecreams to Cysgod y Glyn;  Arwen selects the chocolate one
The choc-chip for Ffion
and Ffion the mint choc chip.   He thanks Ffion for letting him come over again,
Macs unwraps it for her
and helps Arwen unwrap her icecream.   Ffion says she is celebrating the end of Ysgol y Mynach.
But then someone else appears . . .
They are laughing together when suddenly Gethin appears in the doorway
. . . and Arwen notices him
and Arwen notices him;
Gethin is not happy
he does not look particularly pleased.
"Who does Gwyneth think she is?"
As Britt serves slices of the chocolate cake, she remarks, “I don’t know who Gwyneth thinks she is, speaking to me like that in front of Aaron!   How patronising!”
"Ooh – I feel rather light-headed!"
Colin calls Aaron for his slice of cake, but stands up too quickly and feels rather lightheaded.   Britt remarks that it is the end of an era, and she is not going to let a bitter cynic like Gwyneth stop her marking the occasion.
"Why don't we go to the Deri for dinner?"
“Why don’t we go to the Deri for dinner, to celebrate in style?”
"Yeah – good idea!"
Aaron is all in favour of this.
Macs tells Gethin, “If I knew you were coming, I would have got you an icecream too.”   Ffion points out that warning of his return would have been nice,
Gethin has his suspicions
and can see that he suspects something is going on.   “Don’t you think I have a right to say goodbye to my daughter?” Macs asks, and Ffion explains  that he came to see Arwen to give her a treat.
"I've seen her a few times – and Ffion"
“I’ve seen her a few times – and Ffion!” insists Macs,
"I think you'd better go, Macs!"
but she replies this is not true, and orders him to leave.
Macs does so
Then she turns to Gethin, and objects to him coming back here and being judgmental;  he remarks that they looked very cosy – a happy little family.
"There is nothing going on!"
“There is nothing going on between me and Macs,” Ffion tells him, and he admits that he had a shock.   “So you thought you’d throw accusations at me?   What gives you the right to be like this?”   He closes the door, so that Arwen will not hear them arguing,
"Sorry I left so suddenly"
and admits that he is sorry for leaving so suddenly.
“Without any explanation, and ignoring my texts and calls – you disappeared for a month,” she answers,
"We were a happy family until you arrived"
“You’re right – we were a happy family until you arrived.   Unlike you, Macs wants to be here for Arwen.”
Elgan returns the scarf
Elgan takes the missing scarf to Gaynor;  “About last night – since we decided to finish,
"I've been thinking about my priorities"
I haven’t stopped thinking about our situation, and what are my priorities.”
"You haven't changed your mind?"
She hopes that he has not changed his mind about the job.
He announces, “That’s exactly what I’ve done –
"I've rejected the offer!"
I’ve rejected the offer from Edinburgh!”
Spot the pill bottle
Cadno sees the cupboard door open, and the contents of the box spread around the floor;  then she finds Bobi with the bottle of pills,
"Never get things from that cupboard!"
and tells him, “Never get things from the cupboard under the sink again!   Have you opened it?”
"No, I didn't open it"
He solemnly shakes his head,
Cadno is mightily relieved
and she hugs him.
The sound of a passing car upsets Colin
In the chip shop flat, Colin hears a car passing outside, and flinches;
"Let's have the truth this time!"
Britt demands that he tell her the truth this time.
"I thought I was all right"
He did not want to make a fuss, but the sound of the car earlier took him back to the night of the accident.   “It’s been a while since then, and I thought I was all right, but maybe I haven’t processed it properly.
"Would you mind if we didn't go to the Deri?"
Would you mind if we didn’t go to the Deri tonight?”
"Aaron will be more than happy with a takeaway"
She assures him that Aaron would be just as happy with a takeaway, and that he should stop worrying about other people, as he needs to look after himself.   “I was going on and on about the school closing – and you weren’t feeling well – I feel guilty now!
"Come on, put your feet up"
Come on, put your feet up, and I will be your waitress tonight.”
Cadno hunts in the shed . . .
Cadno hurries to one of the farm’s sheds, and looks for a suitable hiding place;
. . . and finds a suitable rusty tin
she finds a rusty tin and places the pill bottle inside it.
"You phone and tell them you do want the job!"
Gaynor instructs Elgan to phone and say he has changed his mind and does want the job, but he is confused.
"I thought it was the job that changed everything"
“I thought the job was what changed everything,” he says, but she insists it has not changed anything.
“The fact that you had this opportunity will still exist!” she stresses, but he cannot work out what he has done wrong.
"You didn't discuss it with me"
She explains, “You’ve made a huge decision without discussing it with me – you have no right to assume that I would happy.   Turning down something so significant – putting pressure on us to make this thing work!”
He argues, “It can work, if that’s what we want,”
"I don't want to hold you back"
but she does not want the responsibility of knowing that she has held him back.
"I had to leave Cwmderi"
Gethin tells Ffion, “I’m sorry for leaving without a word of explanation – I had to leave Cwmderi.   I stayed with old friends in London.”
The old perfume trick does not work this time
He gives her a box containing her favourite perfume, and again apologises for what he said about her and Macs.   She enquires what he has been doing for a whole month,
"I won't let Moc ruin the rest of my life"
and he answers that he has been clearing his head, and deciding he is not going to let Moc ruin the rest of his life.
"I'm not letting him come between us"
“This is my chance to make a fresh start, Ffi – I know it will take you a long time to get over my behaviour, but I’m not going to let him come between us – I’m not going to let him win!   I want to rebuild my life, and look to the future with you and Arwen – if you’ll let me.”
Ffion does not look exactly convinced
She does not look impressed.
Macs is drinking alone . . .
Meanwhile, in the Deri, Macs is drinking alone;
. . . when Gwyneth taunts him . . .
Gwyneth notices him and comments, “I hear that Gethin is back – that will teach you a lesson, trying to steal his family.   Gethin is Arwen’s father – you were merely a bit of biology.”
. . . but he does not rise to the bait
Macs simply replies that he is happy with the situation,
"You're pathetic!"
and when she describes this as pathetic, he tells her, “Staying with you would have been pathetic.   I shouldn’t laugh at you – I should thank you for letting me come back.
"Thank you, Gwyneth!"
If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have a relationship with my daughter and my father.   Thank you, Gwyneth!”
"I don't know if you deserve it"
Ffion insists that she wants to make this work, but does not know if he deserves it.   She cannot forget what he did to Moc;  “It was disgusting!   You crossed a line, and I don’t feel as if I know you.   It’s when they are under pressure that people show their true colours.”
"Well, at least you want it to work"
Gethin is happy that at least she wants it to work,
"You're lucky you're here at all"
but she warns him that he is sleeping in the spare room, and is lucky that he is here at all.
"But Macs can turn up when he wants"
He wryly comments, “Macs can turn up when he wants,”
Ffion takes exception to this
and when Ffion looks outraged, he continues, “I just want to be here for you and Arwen.”
"I shall make the decisions!"
“I will decide whether Macs can be a part of Arwen’s life – and I’ll decide whether you can be a part of our lives as well!”
"Last night felt right, didn't it?"
Gaynor demands why Elgan thinks he as he does, and he maintains that last night felt right – or did he imagine that too?”
Gaynor fears making another mistake
She admits there is still something between them, but she has made such a mess of relationships with the men in her life.   She does not want to be let down again.
He replies that she will not be, and that he has not stopped thinking of her;  he regrets even mentioning the job.
"Look, this is the official offer"
“Look, this is the official offer from the surgery in Morningside.”   In front of her, he tears it up into pieces,
"This is where I want to be, with you"
and assures her, “This is where I want to be, with you – I’d like to think that you feel the same.”
"Well, I have missed you"
She admits that she has missed him, and he promises that he will never hurt her;
They appear to have reached an agreement
she kisses him enthusiastically.
