| "Can I see Arwen occasionally?" |
As Macs walks along the street in the rain, he encounters Ffion and asks if he can see Arwen occasionally, but she refuses emphatically.
| "I can never forgive you!" |
“You took advantage last week, when Siôn should have been babysitting. I can never forgive you! What do you expect me to say?”
| "Please, Ffion" |
He acknowledges that he was in the wrong, and pleads with her,
| "You're too much of a risk!" |
but Ffion is unmoved; “You’re too much of a risk!” When he points out that the child needs a father, she tells him that Arwen has a perfectly good stepfather.
| "Where are Gethin and Jinx, then?" |
Macs demands, “If he thinks so much of her, where is he? Why did Jinx leave, if it’s his name on the birth certificate? At least I want to be here for her!” Ffion walks away.
| "We don't want to Hoover these up, do we?" |
Diane is vacuuming, and finds the bottle of pills under the bed; “We don’t want to Hoover these up, do we?” she tells Linda,
| "Why do you have to clean so much?" |
who snatches them back and asks why she has to clean so much. She maintains that she can do the dusting around the bed, as she can still do some things herself.
| "Right, I'd better go to work" |
Diane thinks it is wise if she goes to work.
| "Dani sprang a surprise on me" |
In the Deri, Garry is on the phone, explaining that Dani sprang a surprise on him.
| "You clearly don't care!" |
Sioned replies, “You clearly don’t care, or you would have got in touch sooner!” He says that he was giving her time to cool down, but she obviously has not. “It was very emotional – there is no point explaining – you had to be there,” she snaps.
| "Do you have a picture of the scan?" |
He asks if she has the picture, but she stresses that there is not much point,
| It looks as if Sioned is scheming again |
and, after last week, she does not trust him.
| "Let me buy you a drink" |
Linda staggers into the café, and Cadno insists on buying her a drink.
| Gwen takes the order for a milkshake |
Linda tells her that she is up and down, but does not complain. Cadno presumes that Linda still hates her,
| "We'll never be best friends, after that wedding!" |
and is told, “We’ll never be best friends, after that wedding! But it was DJ’s decision in the end – better to stop it at the beginning if it was doomed to fail.”
| There seems to be a sad lack of service in the chip shop |
Macs is sitting in the chippy, waiting to be served,
| "Don't you have anything better to do?" |
when Garry enters, looking for Britt, and comments, “Don’t you have anything better to do than hang around here?
| "Not back to cause trouble, are you?" |
“You’re not back to cause trouble, are you? For Gaynor, maybe – or Sioned?”
Macs laughs, “You think I’m interested in Sioned?” and Garry suspects that he may instead be interested in Ffion.
| "Do you think I'd tell you?" |
“If I was, do you think I would tell you – seeing as you’re Gethin’s brother-in-law?” is the reply.
| Garry is scathing about Macs' parenting abilities |
Garry confesses that he does not know where Gethin is, but emphasises, “He’s been more of a father to that girl than you’ve ever been. So if I were you, I’d stay away.” Macs reminds him that he fought for Gwern,
| "I always get what I want!" |
and Garry answers, “I always get what I want!”
| "That reminds me of a little café in Cardigan" |
Linda reminisces about a little café in Cardigan when she was young, and advises Cadno not to get old, but refuses to bear a grudge against her. When Cadno picks up her white carrier to leave, she knocks Linda’s bag to the floor,
| Linda hobbles away |
and when Linda has left the café,
| It's those pills – again |
Cadno notices the bottle of pills has escaped, and picks it up.
| "I'm sorry for last week, Ffion!" |
In the street, Siôn tries to apologise to Ffion for last week, but as she walks away,
| "I've got every right to see my daughter!" |
Macs emerges from the chippy and tells her she cannot run away from the truth for ever. “I’ve got every right to see my daughter!”
| Macs has an audience as he crouches down |
Then he crouches down,
| "I'm your daddy, Arwen" |
and tells Arwen, “I’m your daddy,”
| "Don't take any notice of that silly man!" |
but Ffion insists that she should take no notice of that ‘silly man’, and heads for the shop to get Arwen some icecream.
| Sioned is also watching |
Both Sioned and Cadno have witnessed this, and Siôn leads his son away.
| Garry arrives in Sioned's flat . . . |
Garry goes to see Sioned in her flat, taking a present for the little one,
| . . . and receives a less than cordial welcome |
which she interprets as a bribe;
| "Look – I can't be in two places at the same time" |
he points out that he could not be in two places at the same time.
| "And we know who comes first every time!" |
“And we all know who comes first every time!” she snarls, “There’s nothing more important than seeing your baby for the first time! What do you want? It’s pointless you coming here!”
| "I know you feel let down" |
He appreciates that she feels let down, but he is here now; she goes on, “But for how long – until you get another phone call from Dani? Asking you to go to the shop, or pick her up,
| "Singing session for babies!" |
“or for something important, like a singing session for babies? You don’t deserve to see the scan – you have no idea how lonely you made me feel.”
| "Can I see the picture of our child?" |
He insists that it was her he wanted to be with, and again asks if he can see the picture of their child.
| Once againl, Linda grabs the pills and looks flustered |
Cadno finds Linda, sitting alone in the Deri, and returns the pills.
| "Should you be drinking if you're taking tablets?" |
“It’s none of my business, but should you be drinking if you’re taking tablets” she asks,
| "What's it matter? I'm dying already!" |
but Linda replies that she is not bothered as she is dying already. Cadno remarks that she seemed so cheerful earlier, and enquires what the tablets are, concerned that she has taken a turn for the worst.
Linda assumes that she will look them up online anyway,
| "All right – I'm not supposed to have them" |
and will not listen to any more questions, and wants to leave. Finally, she admits that she is not supposed to have them, and begs Cadno not to tell anyone.
| "Well, what are they, then?" |
Cadno continues to demand to know what they are;
| "They'll send me to sleep - for ever" |
Linda informs her, “They are strong tablets, to send me to sleep – for ever. I intend to take them when the time comes – no-one else knows, so please don’t say anything.”
| "I don't want to hear any more" |
Cadno does not want to be told any more, and wants nothing to do with it.
| "Yes, I know I went too far!" |
Back at Y Felin, Macs admits that he went too far, and Siôn remarks that it was a pity it was in public,
| "She couldn't get any more hostile" |
pointing out that Ffion’s response will be more hostile than if it had occurred in the flat.
Macs doubts that it could get more hostile;
| "It's not fair that Arwen doesn't know I'm her father!" |
“She doesn’t want either of us to see Arwen after last week – you should have told me not to be here. It’s not fair that Arwen doesn’t know I’m her father! Ffion will deny it and turn her against me – what am I going to do?”
| Siôn decides he will try to retrieve the situation |
Siôn hopes that Ffion will listen to him, but Macs is convinced that he has spoiled things for good. “Of course, she’ll be angry, but perhaps you’ve done some good too,” Siôn suggests,
| "You've shown how strongly you feel about it" |
“You’ve shown how strongly you feel about it, and I’m going over there to apologise for both of us.” Macs is sure that he will only make things worse, but his father argues that things cannot get much worse;
| "We must try, one step at a time" |
they must try to change her mind, one step at a time.
| Garry gets 'choked up' at the sight of his baby . . . |
Garry becomes quite emotional at seeing the scan,
| . . . but Sioned stresses it is not as good as being there |
but Sioned points out it is not quite the same as seeing the little one moving.
| "He'll only have me and Mam" |
“I couldn’t help thinking that he’ll only have me and Mam,” she says, but Garry tells her he has to go.
| "You don't care about me!" |
“Now you’ve seen what you want, you don’t care about me – that’s not fair!” she rages.
| "I made it clear I don't want a relatioship with you!" |
He reiterates that he does not want a relationship with her, and has made that very clear; “So you are only interested in the baby?” she realises, and he confirms that this indeed is the case.
| "I don't have to let you see the baby when it comes!" |
“I showed you the scan, but I don’t have to let you see the baby when it comes!” Sioned threatens. Garry leaves without another word.
| "Sorry – but I had to tell someone" |
Linda apologises to Cadno, but insists that she had to tell someone;
| "It's wrong that DJ doesn't know" |
Cadno says that it is wrong that she knows, and DJ does not, but Linda is adamant that he must never know.
| "After the mess you made at the wedding" |
“It’s not too much to ask, after the mess you made at your wedding – don’t break his heart again!”
Cadno cannot understand why she does not want to be with DJ for as long as she can; “You have to fight, if not for yourself, then for DJ,” she pleads, but Linda is determined that she must have her final wish.
| She wants Cadno to look after the pills . . . |
Then she springs a surprise on Cadno, asking her to take charge of the tablets, so that no-one will find them,
| . . . a resposibility that Cadno does not want |
as it is too dangerous to keep them in the house.
| "Sorry about that silly man . . ." |
Ffion cuddles Arwen, telling her, “Sorry about that silly man –
| ". . . take no notice of what he said" |
“take no notice of what he said.”
| Ffion answers the door buzzer |
Then the door buzzer sounds, and when Arwen hears Siôn’s voice,
| "Tad-cu!" (Grandad) |
she says, “Grandad!” which changes Ffion’s mind, and she lets him in.
| "I don't want to be dragged into this" |
Cadno is still insisting that she does not want to be dragged into this, but Linda says she has no choice.
| "I wondered where you were" |
Then Diane comes in, looking for her, and Cadno quickly removes the pills from the table; Diane enquires what they have been talking about.
| "We've been putting the world to rights" |
Linda replies that they have been putting the world to rights, and goes to the car with Diane, leaving Cadno in charge of the bottle of pills.
| Ffion has taken Arwen to her room |
Ffion insists that Siôn caught her in a moment of weakness, and urges him to say what he has to say; Arwen can stay in her room until he has gone.
| "Macs regrets what he said" |
“Macs regrets what he said – he finds it hard coming to terms with being a father,” Siôn tells her, but she assures him that Macs means nothing to Arwen or to her,
and wonders why he is stirring up trouble from the past. “Maybe he wants to do a better job than his own father did,” suggests Siôn,
| He admits he set up last week's meeting |
“Last week’s mess was my fault – I arranged it. I would like to be a better grandfather than I was a father. You know I want to be part of Arwen’s life.
| "He's trying his best to be mature" |
“Macs is trying his best to be more mature – his heart’s in the right place.”
| "What he did was unforgivable!" |
Ffion is emphatic, “What he did on the High Street was unforgivable – you saw it yourself!” Siôn replies that Macs is upset about it and deserves a second chance
“Now Arwen needs her dinner – but please think about it, for her sake,” Siôn begs Ffion.
| "I was rude and ungrateful" |
Back at Bryntirion, Linda is in apologetic mood; “I was rude earlier, and ungrateful,” but Diane is sympathetic, and appreciates that she will be up and down.
| "I was surprised to see you with Cadno" |
However, she was surprised to see Linda with Cadno, and is told, “I don’t have the time or the energy to bear a grudge –
| "Cadno and I understand each other" |
“Cadno and I understand each other very well.”
| Cadno looks at the pills . . . |
Meanwhile, in the kitchen at Penrhewl, Cadno sits uneasily, looking at the bottle of pills,
| . . . she looks for a hiding-place . . . |
and wondering where they could be hidden;
| . . . and puts them behind the herbs and spices |
she decides upon putting them behind the jars of herbs in the kitchen cupboard, and looks very worried.
