5 May 2017

Dai hurtles down the hospital corridor . . .
Dai propels the wheelchair carrying Sara through the hospital corridors at high speed, while simultaneously trying to contact Jason on his phone.   Sara repeatedly shouts that she wants Jason.
. . . before handing over to the maternity staff
The hospital staff take over, and wheel her into the maternity department.
"You made me lose count!"
Eileen is counting when Jim comes in, and loses her place;  he asks if everything is all right, as when he was looking for his phone charger,
"I found these sleeping tablets"
he found Eileen’s sleeping tablets.
"They've been there since Courtney"
She lies that they have probably been there since Courtney, but he points out they have this week’s date on them.
Then she says she could not sleep and Dr Pritchard prescribed them for her;
Jim is very concerned
Jim is worried that she cannot sleep, but more worried that she is hiding the fact.
Jason is shouted at by Dai
Jason bursts into the waiting room, and Dai demands, “What’s the point of having a mobile phone if you don’t use it?   Well, don’t just stand there like a drip!”
"I can't face it, Dai!"
Jason is scared to go into the delivery suite, and asks if she is in a lot of pain;  “No, it’s just like cutting your toenails,” replies Dai, sarcastically, then adding, “Of course she’s in pain!”
"What if I can't do it?"
Jason frets, “What if I can’t do it, Dai?” and is told that he will not know if he does not try.
"In – two, three – out – two, three!"
Dai puts him through the deep breathing exercise,
Jason does not feel any better
but he still insists that Dai will have to come in with him.
"You have to come in with me!"
Much against his will, Dai is dragged through the door.
Tyler has had a stressful morning
In the Deri, Tyler tells Iolo that he needs a strong drink;  apart from mountain of marking and an assembly he forgot to prepare, it was a wonderful day.
A pupil has gone to a political rally in London
One of his pupils has been taken to London by his mother, after being warned not to miss school;  he is supposed to be in school.
Iolo is subjected to Tyler's opinions
“Anyway, children should not be dragged to a political rally,” he goes on, “You’re forcing them to campaign for something you believe.   I want children to be individuals who make their own decisions.”
"I want lunch, not a political debate!"
Iolo replies that he wanted lunch, not a political debate;  “Thank heavens we don’t have any children,” says Tyler.
The baby is now definitely on the way
Sara is in labour, and being encouraged by Jason;  Dai is looking increasingly uncomfortable as he paces up and down.
"What's Dai doing here?"
Sara suddenly notices him, and screams, “What’s Dai doing here?”
"You're not the only one asking that question!"
Looking rather unsteady on his feet, he tells that she is not the only one asking that question, but Jason is adamant that he needs Dai there.
Dai does not look quite 100% . . .
“This isn’t about you – it’s about me!   Dai, get out!” she shouts, but Jason instructs him to stay.   As Sara screams with pain,
. . . then slumps to the floor
Dai passes out and slumps to the floor.
Jason has by now got into the swing of things
Very shortly thereafter, as Sara is being instructed what to do by Jason,
"You have a baby boy!"
the midwife announces that she has a boy, and Sara is jubilant.   The baby is taken away for the necessary checks.
Gwen hands Ffion her coffee
In the café, Ffion is given her coffee by Gwen and joins Gaynor, who is having a working lunch.
Gaynor is having a change of scene . . .
“I’ve had lunch at my desk every day this week, so I thought I deserved the change of scene,” Gaynor tells her,
. . . but is rather preoccupied with Elgan Pritchard
“But I can’t concentrate on anything – but its nothing to do with school.   You’ve met Elgan – Dr Pritchard, haven’t you?   He came to the office the other day with lunch for me – a shared picnic at the desk – unexpected and romantic.   He said he wanted to spend more time with me, but he hasn’t been in touch.”
Ffion is rather disparaging about Dr Pritchard
Ffion replies, “That doesn’t surprise me at all – I think he’s a bit of a flirt.   He was flirting with me last week – I would avoid him like the plague, if I were you.”
Diane hugs Jason . . .
Diane has reached the hospital and hugs Jason,
. . . and then reprimands Dai
then she moans at Dai, “Do you have to make a scene everywhere you go?” but he answers that he could have had a nasty accident.   Diane wants a cwtch with the baby,
"He's having some checks with the nurse"
but is told that he has gone for some checks with the nurse.
"There's something wrong with me!"
Jason goes in to see Sara, who is upset, saying that there is something wrong with her – she has not delivered the placenta and they are taking her to theatre.
"Were you serious about not having children?"
In the Deri, Iolo asks, “Were you serious about being glad we didn’t have any children?”   Tyler wonders whether it is time they gave it some thought, if they are ready,
"Children are expensive things"
but points out that a higher salary would be better.
“If I were one more step up on the career ladder – remember, children are expensive!
"When I'm promoted to deputy head"
When I’m promoted to deputy head, that would be the time,” he tells Iolo, who agrees with him.
"I haven't seen the baby yet!"
“Why is this happening?” whimpers Sara, but Jason assures her she will be in and out in no time, as the doctors do dozens of these operations every day.   “But I haven’t seen the baby yet – what if something does happen to me?” she demands, “We haven’t even thought of a name yet!”
"I've always liked the name Wilbert"
As the nurses come to take her to the theatre, Jason jokes that he has always liked the name Wilbert.
The emotion is getting to Jason
He is in tears as they take her away.
He paces up and down, awaiting news
The three wait, anxiously, for news, and the baby is brought into the room,
Jason is handed his son
lifted out of the cot and given to Jason.
"Sara ought to be here for this!"
“Sara ought to be here for this,” he says,
Tyler wants a word with Gaynor . . .
Gaynor is still in the café when Tyler comes in;
. . . about further promotion
he tells her, “I’d like a bit more responsibility at school.   I know I’m young, but I’d like to be challenged at some point in the future.   Of course, I’d do any courses that were necessary.”
She says she will bear this in mind and enquires,
Gaynor mentions the essay for cash business
“Are you aware of the investigation into this essay business?   And are you also aware that several of them are on CDT questions?”
"I did give him a couple of example essays"
Tyler confirms that he gave Chester a couple of essays he had written as examples, and was pleased that Chester was showing an interest in his work.
She warns him about Chester
Gaynor warns, “You’re not the only one who has been tricked by Chester – but don’t show any favouritism to that boy.   Don’t forget what happened to Ffion.   We just hope that the facts are in your favour, or that Chester confesses.   Focus on this first, before thinking of another promotion.”
Sioned notices . . .
Sioned walks along the street,
. . . that her 'statue' of Ed is on the ground . . .
and discovers her ‘statue’ on the ground outside the café;
. . . and is instantly aggrieved
she looks distinctly displeased.
"I'm busy, Jim!"
In the shop, Eileen does not want to talk;  “I want to know what’s going on,” Jim insists, “You can’t even look at me.   I’m not going to stand here talking to myself –
"If you change your mind, I'll be in the Deri"
if you change your mind, I’ll be in the Deri.”
Sioned comes in with her mask of Ed;
"It was outside the café!"
“You’ll never believe where I found that – outside the café!” she complains,
"Garry had just dumped it there!"
“Garry had just dumped it there – it’s all that I have left of Ed.   I think it should be a public place, so that everybody can appreciate it – can it stay here?”
Eileen half-heartedly agrees
Eileen nods her head.
"Thanks for all your support"
Jason has been told that Sara is fine and everything is going to be all right;  he thanks Dai and Diane for their support.
"What's wrong, Mam?"
Upstairs in the shop flat, Sioned demands what is wrong;  “I can’t tell you – it’s so terrible!” Eileen replies, but Sioned reminds her she can talk about anything, and asks how many times her mother has got her out of a mess.
"I was with Sam when he died!"
“I don’t know why I did it,” Eileen begins, “I was with Sam when he died!”
Jim is depressed
Jim is sitting miserably with his pint, as Gaynor and Ffion call at the Deri for a drink;
"the investigation – and my personal life!"
Gaynor is dreading this investigation which is likely to drag on.   “What with that – and my personal life,” she wails,
"He'll be flirting with Megan next week!"
and Ffion advises her to forget Dr Pritchard, predicting next week he will be flirting with Megan.
"I don't think he was flirting with Ffion"
Iolo, who is nearby at the bar, comments that he thought the doctor was a nice bloke, but Gaynor answers that he appears to be a bit of a womaniser.   Iolo contests the allegation that he was flirting with Ffion,
"Perhaps she saw what she wanted to see"
maintaining that he was only being friendly, and perhaps Ffion saw what she wanted to see.
“Well, it doesn’t matter now,” says Gaynor, “He hasn’t contacted me so he’s obviously not interested.”
"You should phone him"
Iolo answers that it is now 2017, and if she wants to go out with someone, she should phone them.
Gaynor has a disappointment when she phones the surgery
She calls the surgery and asks to speak to Dr Pritchard, but is told he is on holiday;  Iolo suggests he might ring when he gets back, but she is not convinced.
"I just needed to talk to someone"
Eileen explains, “I just needed to talk to someone – Jim was away – and I fell asleep on the bed.   When I woke up, he was dead.   Of course, nothing else happened.   I panicked, and I knew how it would look – everyone would think I slept with him, but I hadn’t.   Now that Britt knows, she is bound to tell Colin –
"I have to confess what happened!"
I left a locket in Sam’s bedroom.   I can’t eat, I can’t sleep – and Jim knows something is wrong.   I have to confess what happened!”
"That's the last thing you should do!"
Sioned advises, “That’s the last thing you should do!   Is Britt doesn’t tell Colin, you will have confessed for no reason.   You will have to cope with the guilt – if Britt, was going to tell people, she would have done so by now.   Anyway, it would be your word against hers.
"It must stay between you and me"
Apart from Britt, only you and I know about this, and that’s the way it should stay.
Eileen looks far from convinced
Your secret’s safe with me.”
Sara wakes up from the anaesthetic
In the hospital, Sara is coming round
"He's been waiting to meet you"
and Jason tells her that everything went like clockwork.   “He’s been waiting to meet you,” he says,
"Wilbert, this is Mam"
“Here you go, Wilbert, this is Mam – this is Mam-gu, and that’s Tad-cu over there.   In case you haven’t worked it out, I’m Dad.”
Sara holds her baby
The baby is handed to Sara;
"He's perfect!"
“He’s perfect!” she sobs.
