| "The early bird catches the monkey!" |
Dai marches into Cysgod y Glyn, proclaiming, “The early bird catches the monkey!” Ffion points out that what he means is ‘softly softly, catchee monkey’, and leaves for school.
| "I can't hear the kettle boiling" |
“Right, I can’t hear the kettle boiling,” says Dai, “I can’t get much done this early without a cuppa!”
| "We paid someone else to do it" |
Gethin points out that the fact is there is no work to do, as they paid another company to finish the bathroom.
| This infuriates Dai |
Dai is highly indignant, stressing that they knew he was coming. Gethin, in turn, emphasises that he was supposed to finish last week, and so now is too late, and Dai adopts a look of fury.
| Tyler cites dental problems |
When Ffion calls at number 7, Tyler makes the excuse that he has an absess on a tooth, so she recommends contacting the dentist immediately. He asks if Gaynor is back at school today; Ffion replies that she will not be back until tomorrow.
| "I'll talk to Gaynor, you phone the dentist" |
“I will talk to Gaynor, you phone the dentist, and take care,” she says, as she leaves.
| Tyler heads for his meeting with Liv |
After picking up his keys and coat, he also goes out on his way to meet Liv.
| Elgan and Garry are talking |
In the café, Garry is chatting with Elgan when DJ comes in;
| "Hot chocolate with all the trimmings!" |
he asks Gwen for a hot chocolate with all the trimmings.
| "Celebrating, are you?" |
“Celebrating, are you?” enquires Garry, “That you’ve sent away the best doctor we’ve had for years! He’s only leaving because of what you’ve done!”
| "It's time to move on" |
Elgan tries to defuse the situation by saying it is time to move on.
“He can’t stay now that everyone thinks he’s a murderer!” continues Garry,
| "I'm sorry about everything" |
but DJ replies that he is sorry about everything. Elgan is puzzled by this sudden change of attitude.
DJ explains, “I have a clearer view of it all now – there must be something I can do,” but Elgan tells him that it is all arranged,
| "I fancy living near the sea" |
and that he fancies living near the sea. Garry tells him not be so nice about it, and DJ wants a chance to sort it out.
| "No hard feelings, DJ!" |
The doctor again says that it is too late, but wishes DJ good luck and shakes his hand; “I’m not one to bear grudges.”
| "How will the rest of Cwmderi feel?" |
When he has gone Garry wonders how the rest of the village will feel.
| "We had a verbal agreement!" |
Dai is still at Cysgod y Glyn, protesting, “If I’d been on a cruise to the Caribbean, I’d understand, but we’ve had a lot going on recently. We had a verbal agreement, a gentlemen’s contract.”
| "No, it's too late now, Dai!" |
Gethin says they cannot be expected to live without a bathroom for two weeks, and it is too late now.
| "You have to pay £4,000!" |
Dai is insistent that Gethin still has to pay the £4,000, but he is informed that the agreed sum was payable upon completion of the job.
| "You broke promises and let us down" |
“We’re not paying a penny – you broke promises and let us down.” Dai describes this as kicking a man when he is down, and as he storms off, he promises that Gethin has not heard the last of this.
| "The stress is catching up with Tyler" |
At Llwyncelyn, Ffion tells Gaynor that it appears that the stress is catching up with Tyler; it cannot be another excuse, now that Greta has gone, and predicts he will settle down after half term.
| "I get much more work done at home" |
Gaynor says that she likes working from home, as she has finished a mountain of work, but then her phone sounds, and so does Ffion’s.
| "Why does DJ want to see us?" |
They both find they have been summoned by DJ to an announcement in the Deri.
| "I don't want to be told off for spreading germs" |
Gaynor hopes that Elgan and Eileen are not there, or she will receive another reprimand for spreading germs. She has to reluctantly accept that she has now lost a good man.
| Tyler waits for Liv . . . |
Tyler has reached the predetermined place,
| . . . and she arrives, carrying Greta |
and Liv arrives, carrying baby Greta. He asks if she is all right, if she is eating and where she is staying. She replies that they are both fine;
| "You made me feel I wasn't good enough" |
“You weren’t very worried about me last week – you made me feel as if I wasn’t good enough to be her mother.”
| Greta holds on tightly to her Mam |
He is told that Greta is feeding well and growing, but Liv will not allow Tyler to hold her.
| Liv appears to be ravenously hungry |
He has brought her some food, which she starts devouring immediately, and also hands over some money.
| "Why is everyone coming here at lunchtime?" |
In the Deri, Dani wonders why DJ has sent a text to everyone to come there at lunchtime; “Some announcement or something! Do you think we’ll need more staff?” Garry seems puzzled, so she asks him what is going on;
| "Something to do with Elgan leaving?" |
he suspects this is something to do with Elgan leaving, as he is fed up with people’s attitudes.
| "He's shifty – maybe that's why you like him!" |
Dani comments that, although they are friends, the doctor is a bit shifty; “Maybe that’s why you like him!”
| "I might as well talk to a bag of cement!" |
At APD, Dai is on the phone about a loan; “Of course we’ve got cash flow problems – that’s why I want a loan!” he shouts, “I’ve got a hundred bags of cement out the back – I might as well talk to one of them!”
| Then he cannot understand why they put the phone down |
Then he is surprised when they put the phone down on him.
Gethin has just come in, and tells Dai that he has sought legal advice;
| Gethin wants to reach an understanding |
“I don’t like to argue, and I know it’s been stressful for you. Their advice is that we reach some kind of understanding, but Dai does not seem to be in the mood for any compromise.
| "Slowly enough for a mechanic to understand" |
Instead he rages, “Look, I’ll say this slowly enough for a mechanic to understand – I expect £4,000 in the APD account by the end of the week, or you’ll get a solicitors letter!
| Gethin looks amused by Dai's threats |
“Do you understand?”
| Liv says she is staying at a hostel |
Liv tells Tyler that she is staying at a hostel, so they have a roof over their heads, and she is clean, too. She is determined never to go back on heroin, and Greta is the best thing that has happened to her.
| "She will soon need to have her jabs" |
Tyler tells her that the baby will need her jabs before long, but Liv is reluctant to involve the authorities, as it will complicate matters.
“What sort of a life will you have on the run?” he asks,
| "Don't be so melodramatic!" |
but she tells him not to be so melodramatic; if she takes Greta to a GP, social services will take her away – so what is she supposed to do.
| "Come home with me, Liv" |
He tells her to come home with him and sort this out properly; “I knew it was a mistake to meet you,” she moans, but he insists that he will get social services to realise she wants to change, and she has done so well.
| "You're going to be an amazing mother!" |
His prediction that she is going to be an amazing mother seems rather wide of the mark, however.
“Will you let me help you?” he pleads,
| She appears to agree to go back with him |
and she nods her head; he wants to go now, but she replies that she is bursting for the toilet. She heads in that direction, carrying the baby.
| "Just a couple of minutes, Ffion" |
In the Deri, DJ says he will be making the announcement in a couple of minutes,
| "I hope you know what you're doing" |
but Dai demands if he knows what he is doing, as things could turn nasty. DJ sends a text to Elgan,
| DJ asks Elgan to come, too |
which reads, “Please come over to the Deri at lunchtime. It’s really important.”
Then he begins his speech;
| "I want to say something very important" |
“Thank you all for coming at short notice. I want to say something very important. As you know, the last few weeks haven’t been very easy for me.”
| Garry is recording this |
Garry is unobtrusively holding his phone and filming this.
| "I've been wrong about Dr Elgan" |
“I need to say that I’ve been wrong about Dr Elgan. I’m ashamed to say it was the grief talking, not the sense of reason. Dr Elgan did nothing more than behave with dignity, respect and kindness during Mam’s final moments.
| They listen intently to DJ |
“He did nothing wrong. I’m ashamed that I suspected that such a good man, such a generous man, of endangering or ending someone’s life.”
| Gethin comes in |
As Gethin comes in, DJ continues, “So if you can spread the message that Dr Elgan is innocent –
| "He plans to leave Cwmderi" |
“because I hear he plans to leave Cwmderi to find another practice. Messages of support would help him change his mind.”
| "He's packing his stuff at the surgery" |
Gethin thinks that it is too late, as the doctor is packing his stuff at the surgery, and is about to leave. DJ rushes out of the pub.
| "Did you make him say that?" |
Dani suspects that Garry made DJ say that, but he stresses that Elgan is innocent and now everyone knows it.
| "Perhaps he gave the tablets to his mother" |
She then remarks to Mal, “Perhaps he gave the tablets to his mother himself.”
| Elgan has been watching the proceedings on his phone |
DJ sees the doctor sitting in his car, looking at the video of what happened in the Deri, sent to him by Garry. He runs across and Elgan thanks him,
| "It's too late, DJ" |
but says that it is too late.
| "She's been in there an awful long time" |
Tyler stands outside the clubhouse of the rugby club, but becomes tired of waiting so goes inside; there is no response to his shouts,
| "Liv, are you in there?" |
so he looks in the ladies toilet, inevitably finding that Liv has disappeared once more.
| DJ is willing to do anything |
DJ offers to put a notice in the Western Post if that will help, but the doctor replies, “What people think of me is only part of the problem –
| "There aren't many it could have been" |
“someone gave those tablets to your mother – I know it wasn’t me, so there aren’t many it could have been.”
DJ admits, rather unconvincingly, “All right, I gave her the tablets before coming to see you.”
Elgan says, “I had suspected you, but I was wrong, wasn’t I?
| "But you know who did it" |
“But you know who did it – don’t worry it won’t go any further. It must be someone very special, for you to take the blame. A Good Samaritan.”
| "Everyone would appreciate it if you stayed" |
DJ begs him, “Look, I know I can't do or say anything to ease what you’ve been through, but if you would reconsider leaving, and stay here, I would appreciate that, and so would everyone else.”
| "They're suing us?" |
When she hears what Dai told Gethin, Ffion is furious; “They’re suing us? We were without a bathroom for weeks!” Gethin says that he tried to reason with Dai as he felt sorry for him, and he was stressed.
| "He could go and stay in their villa!" |
Gaynor comments that if he is stressed, he can go and stay in that villa of theirs.
| DJ and Elgan cone in for a pint |
DJ and Elgar come into the Deri, with Elgan telling Garry that they cannot get rid of him that easily.
| "It will cost a packet, taking us to court" |
Ffion goes across to Dai and and advises him that is taking them to court will be costly, and he does not have a leg to stand on.
| "Look, work out how much you've spent" |
Gethin, in an effort to mediate, invites him to work out how much he spent on the fixtures and fittings, with Ffion pointing out to not get a better offer.
| Dai, rather unenthusiastically, agrees |
Dai agrees to this and shakes hands with Gethin.
| "I'm glad you decided to stay" |
Gaynor tells Elgan that she follow his advice and stayed away from school, adding that she is glad he decided to stay.
| "I didn't want to go, anyway" |
He replies that He did not want to go anyway, and she suggests that maybe they can share a night on the red wine again.
| "Yes – that's what friends do" |
He tells her that is what friends do, but she does seem rather disappointed by this.
| "There's nothing wrong with your teeth!" |
Ffion goes to number 7 and has what is going on, as there is nothing wrong with his teeth, asking if this is anything to do with Liv.
| "I went to meet Liv" |
He reveals that he went to meet her, to find out if she was all right.
| "Did you call social services?" |
However he did not phone social services, as he thought he was doing the right thing. Then then she disappeared again and made a fool of him.
| "What hope is there for Greta?" |
“What hope is there for Greta?” he wails.
| Liv sits on the park bench . . . |
Meanwhile, Liv puts baby Greta back into her pram and sits down on the bench.
| . . . but has an unwelcome visitor |
She is unaware of the approach of Steve, who says, “Hiya, Liv.
| "Don't do anything silly" |
“Don’t do anything silly, there’s a good girl,”
| She looks scared of him |
and she looks terrified.
