| Megan brings coffee and biscuits |
Megan goes over to see how Carl’s work on the vestry is going, and takes him a coffee and some biscuits.
| "It will be finished in time, won't it?" |
He assures her that the job will be finished before the competition, and tells her she can trust him.
| "No, it's Health and Safety!" |
However, he will not let her inside, citing Health and Safety considerations, and he does not want her inhaling the dust; she describes him as very conscientious.
| Megan is not complimentary about APD |
Jason comes over to them, and is told by Megan, “It was not a very nice experience, having APD working at the house.”
| "We were going through a difficult time" |
Jason reminds her that they were going through a difficult time, and but now they should be supporting each other. Megan is quite clear, “I don’t regret giving the job to Carl – he’s doing a good job.”
| "Plasterboard already?" |
When she has gone, Jason asks Carl what he is doing today; Carl replies that they are putting plasterboard on the ceiling, and Jason is surprised that they have already renewed the timberwork.
| "Aren't you supposed to be at school?" |
Coming downstairs from checking on Greta, Iolo asks Tyler, “Aren’t you supposed to be in school?”
Tyler says that he has only one lesson this afternoon, and will say he has a dodgy stomach.
| "We can finish the decorating" |
With a bit of luck, they can finish the decorating.
Iolo points out that they agreed that he was looking after Greta this afternoon,
| "Don't push your luck with Gaynor" |
and advises him not to push his luck with Gaynor. Then Tyler’s phone rings; he is disturbed to find that it is Gaynor, but Iolo will not answer it for him, telling him to do his own dirty work.
| "Iolo insisted I went to bed" |
“No, I wasn’t feeling very well this morning,” he tells Gaynor, “I came home at lunchtime, and Iolo insisted that I went to bed.” There is a knock at the door, and Iolo answers it;
| But look who is at the door |
Tyler is very embarrassed to see that Gaynor is standing there.
| "You do look very ill!" |
“You do look very ill!” she tells him,
| "Well?" |
and demands an explanation.
| "It was in perfect working order" |
“It was in perfect working order – I never had any trouble with it!” protests Siôn, and Gethin diagnoses that he upset it by moving it here. “And all this food has gone to waste!” Siôn continues, “I can’t let anyone take it now.”
| "I can get a new thermostat" |
Gethin explains that the thermostat is the problem and he can easily get another one.
| Siôn is horrified by the limp parsnip |
Siôn asks Sara to put the waste in the food recycling bin, but as usual she moans that she has wasted enough time on this fridge already.
| "It's not my job, Siôn!" |
It is not her job, and she has a business to run. He agrees to explain the process at the official launch later, and meanwhile he must get some more stock.
| Iolo makes himself scarce |
Iolo decides to take Greta for a walk, while Tyler has a chat with Gaynor.
| "You have a responsibility towards your pupils |
“I understand that you want to help your sister, but you have a responsibility towards your pupils too,” she emphasises.
| "I've been doing all this extra work" |
He lists all the extra work he has been doing for the school, but she says that was only to be expected after the poor results.
| "We cannot afford to be complacent!" |
“We’re on trial as a new school and cannot afford to be complacent!” she goes on,
| "Can I have official leave of absence?" |
and he asks if he can have official leave of absence to look after Greta.
She believes that only new fathers can have paternity leave,
| "I can't concentrate on my work" |
but he replies that they are intending to adopt Greta, and the last few weeks have been chaotic, meaning he cannot concentrate on his work; his priorities have changed overnight.
| "You're still in a full-time job" |
Gaynor reminds him, “You’re still in a full-time job,” but he says that if he does not adopt Greta, he may never see her again. She does not think that a family member adopting a child is always what is best for the baby, and asks what happens if Liv wants her back.
| "There must be a way" |
“I’m sure there must be a way I can have time off – that’s what would be fair for the school, me and Greta,” Tyler argues, and she agrees to make enquiries, but is not hopeful;
| "No more pretending to be ill!" |
in any case, she wants him back at school this afternoon, and no more phoning in, pretending that he is ill.
Iolo’s walk with Greta has taken him to Y Felin, where he sees bags of groceries, bought by Siôn to replace the stock in the fridge.
| "Siôn White – shopping in a supermarket?" |
“You’re critical of people who shop in supermarkets,” he teases, but his father points out that he was in a hurry.
Iolo lifts Greta from the pram,
| Siôn does not appear used to handling babies |
so that she can see Grandad; then Iolo’s phone rings with a desperate plea from one of his clients,
| "The stopcock came off in your hand?" |
whose stopcock has come off in his hand.
| "I have to go, Dad – it's an emergency!" |
He agrees to go over there immediately,
| "But I have the fridge opening!" |
and leaves his rather reluctant father to mind the baby. He assures Siôn he will be back before the fridge’s opening time, and cannot let water flow through a client’s house.
| "Welcome to Y Felin!" |
Left alone with Greta, Siôn says, “Welcome to Y Felin, love!”
| The new thermostat has been fitted |
Gethin has completed the replacement of the thermostat when Siôn arrives, pushing the pram and carrying bags of goods to fill the fridge. “We can’t have an empty fridge today, of all days,” Siôn tells him.
| "That goes against the whole ethos of the project" |
Gethin insists that this goes against the whole ethos of the project,
| "Keep your voice down, Gethin" |
but Siôn urges him to keep his voice down, as they do not want Anita to mention it on the radio.
| Anita seems reluctant to discuss the interview |
He is eager to get things clear about the interview, especially after the one Elgan had; then Greta cries, and he asks Sara to give her a bottle.
| "Where are Tyler and Iolo, then?" |
Sara, characteristically, complains about this, demanding where Tyler and Iolo are.
| A couple of tubes of filler – cash in hand |
Jason brings over a couple of tubes of filler for Carl, who appears to prefer cash transactions; Jason says he can do a good price on plasterboard too.
| "Delivery coming from Watkins of Cwrtmynach" |
Carl replies that he has a delivery coming from Watkins of Cwrtmynach,
| "He's a real cowboy!" |
someone whom Jason describes as, “A real cowboy!”
“A lot of good stuff is thrown in skips, and I believe in recycling,” Carl tells him, so Jason asks what other contracts they have had around here;
| "Estate on the way into Llanarthur" |
he is told that there is a new estate on the way into Llanarthur. Jason understood that they were prefabricated buildings from Germany, and needed a specialist company. Carl explains that he used to work in a factory that made ready-made houses, in London, and that he is doing this job as a favour to Megan, because she is his Dad’s friend.
| Jason's suspicions are aroused |
Jason is starting to have his doubts.
| Siôn goes rather over the top |
The Western Post photographer takes various pictures of the fridge and Siôn;
| "I thought this was your idea" |
Anita thought that this was Gethin’s idea,
| "He likes the limelight" |
but it appears that Siôn likes to be in the limelight. “Are you saying that Siôn is doing this to get the attention?” Anita asks.
| Eifion does not like giving away vegetables |
Cadno comes in with a box of fresh vegetables, with Eifion moaning that they could have sold them. She tells him that anything that reduces waste is good, and gives Siôn the gift from Penrhewl.
| "I could make cawl for dinner with that" |
Sara takes one look and suggests, “I could make cawl for dinner tonight with these!” Cadno points out that they are for people more needy than her; “Maybe I will cancel my Penrhewl order, now that I can get vegetables from here,” Sara adds.
| "Sara, could you take Greta back to number 7?" |
Then Siôn asks if Sara can take the baby back to number seven, as either Tyler or Iolo should be back by now; once more, she complains that she has done more than enough for him today.
| The builders are relaxing |
Carl and his two fellow workers are drinking and playing darts in the Deri;
| "Half-day, is it, boys?" |
“Half-day, is it, boys?” enquires Jason, and is told that Watkins is not delivering until tomorrow.
| "Surely you're not happy with this?" |
Then he goes over to Megan, insisting, “Surely you’re not happy watching them chatting and drinking here?”
| "They've been working so hard" |
She is under the impression they are having a late lunch as they have been working so hard, and Jason wonders whether the vestry will be done in time.
“You’re upset because we didn’t give the contract to APD,” she replies, but he assures her he does not want to see her let down. “Carl is a very pleasant man – like his father,” she says, but Jason points out that does not mean he is a decent builder.
| "You should be more concerned about the standard of Dai's work!" |
“You should be more concerned about the standard of Dai’s work, instead of criticising other people’s work!” Megan scolds him,
| "I won't have time to help you" |
and he says that he hopes it will not go awry for her, because he will not have time to dig her out of a hole.
Siôn sends away the photographer, reminding him that he wants the pictures on the front page, and Anita warns in that it is only ten minutes until the broadcast. “It is important to hear the community’s voices,” she tells him.
| Megan complains that she has not been involved |
Megan thinks that members of the community should have had the opportunity to talk about this fridge, and she feels as if she has been left out,
| "I have experience with the food bank" |
mentioning that she has experience with the food bank. She informs Siôn that people have to show that they are eligible to receive help;
| She does not want to attract the riff-raff |
“I also think we need to make sure that this fridge doesn’t attract a certain type of people into the village.”
| "Remember the Good Samaritan, Megan" |
He urges her to call to mind the parable of the Good Samaritan, but she goes on, “Some people, if they get all their food free, will use their money to buy things like drugs and alcohol.”
Siôn has prepared a couple of questions for Anita to ask him,
| "I can think of my own questions" |
but she says that she can think of her own questions.
| Now Sara is left minding the baby |
Sara returns the baby in her pram to Tyler, complaining that he should not just dump her like that.
| "Siôn left her with you?" |
He assumes that Iolo left her with Sara, and is not happy when he hears it was Siôn.
| Iolo arrives back from his job |
Then Iolo’s van pulls up, and she moans that she hopes he enjoyed his day off.
| "She should not have been left with strangers!" |
Back inside the house, Tyler is angry that Greta has been left with strangers,
| "Look – I had an emergency!" |
but Iolo points out he asked his Dad to look after her, as he was called out on an emergency.
| "Is that more important than Greta?" |
“Is that more important than Greta?” Tyler demands, “You get called out all winter – if it freezes, your phone won’t stop ringing!”
| "We'll have to find someone to look after her" |
“We’ll have to find someone to look after her, then,” is Iolo’s reply, but Tyler is adamant that they have to prove to social services that they are suitable parents.
| "We should be looking after her" |
He and Iolo should be looking after her, not passing her around every time something comes up.
| Siôn talks to CwmFM about the project |
Interviewed live on CwmFM, Siôn describes the operation of the Community fridge scheme, and invites donations for the running costs.
| "He shouldn't be looking after the money!" |
Megan remarks to Gethin that Siôn is not the right person to be looking after the money.
| Siôn declaers the fridge open |
Siôn announces, “The Community Fridge is officially open!”
| "How will you stop people helping themselves?" |
Cadno asks how they will stop people who can afford food from helping themselves, and Siôn answers that is is available for anyone to use.
| "And what about the effect on local businesses?" |
Anita suggests that might be detrimental to small local businesses, if everyone helps themselves.
| "Shouldn't this be confined to towns and cities?" |
“Don’t you think a service like this should be in towns and cities, where people are genuinely living on the street?” she asks, and he points out that homelessness and poverty are problems in rural areas as well.
| "Tune in again next week" |
At this point, Anita advises that the programme is coming to an end.
| "You're letting this presenting go to your head" |
Siôn warns her that she should take care not to let this presenting business go to her head, and walks out.
| "Dad knows more about babies than us" |
“You’re talking as if I put Greta in danger!” protests Iolo, “She was with Dad – he knows more about babies than us – he brought up the three of us, while Mam was working.”
| "It was irresponsible" |
Tyler points out it was irresponsible to give her to Sara, but Iolo considers it a sensible move, as she is a new mother herself.
| Gaynor pays another visit . . . |
Gaynor arrives once more, with some good news for them; she has heard from the education department,
| . . . bringing them good news |
and they are willing for him to take time off for personal reasons – as long as the governors agree.
| "That's fantastic!" |
Tyler says that is fantastic, and that they will look int the adoption process straightaway.
| "See you back at school tomorrow" |
“Right, I’ll see you back at school tomorrow,” she says,
| They think that all is well |
as she leaves.
