Kelly is helping out at the chippy
Kelly is cleaning the windows of the chip shop;  she comments to Debbie that she is helping Ed,
"A change from painting slogans on Sioned's walls!"
adding, “A change from painting slogans on Sioned’s walls!”   Debbie wants to forget about that business, and for Kelly to come back to work in the café.
"Is Ricky all right?"
Then Ed comes out of the shop, and asks about Ricky, as he heard about the vestry.   He encourages Kelly to go back to café,
"Not after the way she treated me!"
but is told, “Not after the way she treated me!”   Debbie says that there are plenty of people looking for work.   “She only wants me back because she’s desperate,” Kelly tells Ed.
"What's this – a lovers' tiff?"
“What’s this – a lovers’ tiff?” remarks Sioned, who is passing, and Kelly reminds her that she is breaking her bail conditions.
"Mam's testifying on my behalf"
“I thought you should know that Mam’s going to testify on my behalf,” Sioned goes on, “She’s going to stand up in court and say I never touched you – I think she’ll be a good witness.   An ordinary middle-aged woman, pillar of the community – who have you got?
"Raided a pantomime dame's wardrobe!"
Someone who looks like she’s raided a pantomime dame’s wardrobe!”   Sioned haughtily walks away, and Kelly assures Ed that they will sort it out.
Eileen is reading up on legal definitions
Eileen is looking on her phone at a website explaining ‘perverting the course of justice’ when Iolo and Tyler come into the café with Greta.
"How is Jim?"
They ask about Jim, and she tells them he is much better;  the police came to see him this morning, and apparently Carl has done a runner.
"The news about Gaynor is not good"
Debbie adds that the news about Gaynor is not good, but Tyler thinks that no change may be a good thing.
Then Kelly comes in, wanting a word with Eileen.
"Is it true you're going to be a witness for Sioned?"
“Is it true you’re going to be a witness in court for Sioned?” she asks,
"She is my daughter"
and Eileen confirms that this is the case.   “I know Sioned’s your daughter, “but what are you going to say when you’re on that stand?   That she is innocent, and Ed made the whole thing up?”   Eileen replies that it depends on what they ask her.
"You will have to lie through your teeth!"
“I hope you’re a convincing actress, because you will have to lie through your teeth!” Kelly points out, “Sioned deserves to be punished for what she’s done, right?   And you’re going to deprive Ed of his only chance to get justice?   Nice one, Eileen!”
Eileen's confidence was not high before, but now . . .
As Kelly leaves, Eileen looks extremely uncomfortable.
Gethin is home from hospital . . .
Gethin arrives home and wonders what he would have done without painkillers;  “I heard that breaking your ribs was painful, but I never imagined this.”
. . . but still in considerable pain
He very gingerly sits down on the sofa, and asks how Arwen is.
"Arwen is fine"
Ffion replies she is more like herself now, and is fine after the scan.
“Thank heavens – things could have been much worse,” he says,
"This is all Megan's fault!"
adding, “Have you seen Megan around?   This is all her fault.”   Apparently no-one has seen her, and she has not been near Maenan Appeal.   “She should never have had a job like that done on the cheap – I’m thinking of suing her – I won’t be able to work for a while,” he suggests, “And what about Jim – and poor Gaynor?”
"Please, Geth, stop going on about suing people"
Ffion is very flustered;  “Please, Geth, going on about suing people isn’t going to change anything, is it?”   He realises that this must be very stressful for her, and remarks that they have been very lucky;  they should think about something nice to do together.
"Would a hairdo improve my chances?"
Eileen finds Sioned outside the salon, considering whether she should have her hair done for the court case.
"The problem is, I know you're guilty!"
“I’ve got more important things to worry about,” her mother tells her, “What exactly will I be asked to say as a witness next week?   The problem is, I know you’re guilty, and I’m scared that I’ll slip up.”
"You just say I never touched Ed"
Sioned advises, “You simply have to say I never touched Ed!”   Eileen is aware that barristers can be like a dog with a bone, but Sioned snaps, “I need you to be strong!” and walks away.
Ed needs help in choosing his clothes
Ed returns to the chippy, telling Kelly that he does not have much variety in shirts and ties;  he would like her to help him choose.   She welcomes the chance to be a stylist.
"She was unhappy about you being my main witness"
Ed changes into his chip-dispensing uniform, and tells her about his conversation with the solicitor, who is unhappy about Kelly being his main witness, because she is a single woman.
"They'll say you're in love with me"
“She thinks that Sioned’s team will say the only reason you’re doing this is because you’re in love with me.   You’ve done so much for me – like going to North Wales.”
"That's ridiculous!"
“That’s ridiculous!” Kelly shouts, “Can’t a man and a woman be mates, or what?”
"See you later – mate!"
She leaves, commenting, “See you later – mate!”
"What did she expect she'd have to do?"
Sioned demands, “What did she expect she’d have to do?   Tell them how to cook an apple tart or something?”   Gwyneth decides they will have to sort this out now, before she makes a mess of things on the stand.
"I need her to be good!"
“I need her to be good – if she goes to pieces, I have no chance!” Sioned insists.
"We'll give her a practice run"
“We’ll give her a practice run – I have some idea of the kind of questions they will ask her,” says Gwyneth, but Sioned points out that she will then know how many lies she has to tell, and that may put her off.
"It's best that she knows now"
“It’s best that she knows now, and not on the day,” Gwyneth tells her, “Invite her to come round – we’ll do it today.”
Sioned is afraid this will not end well
Sioned does not look confident.
"She told me she had two scans – and some sweets"
Gethin reports that Arwen is asleep, and asks for the icepack to apply to his ribs;  “She did have one scan, didn’t she?   She told me that she had two scans.”
Ffion is lying again
Ffion manufactures the excuse that the first scan did not come out clearly enough and had to be repeated.
Gethin applies the icepack
“The important thing is that she is all right,” he says;  Ffion is going out to the shop, as she has run out of a few things.
Ffion rushes out of the house . . .
She comes out of the door of Cysgod y Glyn looking very upset, and by the time she has crossed the road,
. . . and sobs pitiously
she is in floods of tears.   Siôn happens to be passing,
"What's wrong, Ffion?"
and comes across to see what the problem is;  “Are you going to tell me what’s wrong?” he asks.
"Arwen has a brain tumour!"
She tells him, “Arwen is sick.   She’s got a brain tumour!”
Siôn takes her to Y Felin
He tries to comfort her.
Iolo and Tyler arrive at Cysgod y Glyn
At Cysgod y Glyn, Iolo and Tyler arrive with a present for Arwen, and a box of chocolates for Gethin.   Iolo tells him to sit down, and he will make a cup of tea;  when asked about Arwen,
"Arwen will love this!"
Gethin remarks that children get over these things much faster than adults, and predicts that she will love the teddy which they have brought.
"She was too ill to have a party"
“She’s had a terrible time lately, with everything – it was her birthday last week, and she was too ill to have a party.”
"We could have a party today"
Iolo suggests that they could have a party today,
"With balloons and a cake"
and Tyler says they could get balloons and a cake;  they can just have a small celebration.
"She's having the biopsy on Friday"
At Y Felin, Ffion tells Siôn what has happened;  “When the doctor told me, I thought we could take one day at a time.   She’s having the biopsy on Friday, and everything will be all right.
"I'd do anything for it to be me and not her!"
“But I’d do anything for it to be me and not her!   She’s only five.   I haven’t told her anything, and I’m not going to until I know what it is.”
"It may well be benign"
Siôn explains that there is a strong possibility that the tumour is benign, and she replies that is the reason she has not told Gethin;
"I'm holding on to that possibility"
she is holding on to the possibility that it is nothing.   Siôn warns her that Gethin will suspect something is wrong, but she says if she does tell him, all they will do is worry about it, and Arwen will know that something is wrong.
"You need Gethin – you can't do this on your own!"
Siôn assures her that Gethin is a positive person, and will be a rock to her;  she needs him, as she cannot do this on her own.   She admits that he is right and asks if he will come with her;  “I shall want you to take Arwen out for a walk or something –
"I don't want my baby to know there's anything wrong"
“I don’t want my baby to know there’s anything wrong.”
Ed cannot work out which shirt to choose;  his solicitor told him not to be too trendy.
Kelly tries to suppress her attraction to Ed
Kelly is trying not to look at him,
"The buttons are rather stiff"
but he asks for some help with the buttons which are rather stiff.
Kelly cannot hide that smouldering look . . .
She remarks upon the quality of shirt,
. . . while she explains the ironing of shirts
and the fact that with some you do not have to iron them.
"I've got to see Debbie about that job!"
By this time she is feeling very uncomfortable, and tells him that she has to go and see Debbie;  “I’m going to ask for my job back!”   She cannot get out of the door quickly enough.
Debbie is on her own in the café . . .
In the café, Debbie appears to be rushed off her feet when Kelly hurries in,
. . . but Kelly would like to accept her offer
saying, “Debs, I accept your apology and I’d like to come back to work.”   Asked when she can start,
Mal hopes he will get quicker service now
Kelly replies, “Now!” and immediately sets about preparing some orders.
"What's Gwyneth doing here?"
When Eileen arrives at Sioned’s flat, she is surprised to see Gwyneth there;
"We need Gwyneth's help"
Sioned says that they need her help.
"We're going to have a fake court"
“We’re going to have a fake court,” Gwyneth announces, and Sioned insists that if her mother wants to keep her out of jail, she has to be ready for a Rottweiler questioning her.
"I've brought Kelly's bag"
Ed goes to the café, taking Kelly’s bag with him;  Debbie takes it into the kitchen.
"Is it stupid to ask why Ed had your handbag?"
“Is it stupid to ask why Ed had your handbag?”
"The whole thing is ridiculous!"
Kelly replies that the whole thing is ridiculous;  Sioned’s defence is going to say that Kelly is madly in love with Ed, and that is why she is the main witness.
"Well, are you in love with him?"
Debbie enquiries whether she is in love with Ed,
Methinks the girl doth protest too much
and prompts an immediate outburst, “What is wrong with people?   We’re just mates, like!   I was fine with seeing him without his shirt on – but now it’s really awkward!”
Gwyneth fires questions at Eileen . . .
Eileen’s cross examination begins;  “What kind of relationship do you think Ed and Sioned had?”
. . . which leave her somewhat nonplussed
Eileen replies that she thought they were happy.   “Did they argue?” is the next question, “Were you are aware that they had heated arguments?
"What did you think had happened to Ed?"
“What did you think had happened to Ed when he disappeared?”
“Well, as his clothes were all the clifftop,
"I thought he'd committed suicide"
“I thought he’d committed suicide,” is Eileen’s answer.
Then she is asked why she thinks he committed suicide, and Eileen says that he was not happy.
Sioned is not happy with the way this is going
“With Sioned?   Sioned has a history of bullying!”
Eileen is becoming confused and does not know what to say.
"Arwen has beaten you!"
At the party, they are playing ‘Simon Says’ when Ffion returns with Siôn;
"We decided to have a party"
Gethin tells her they decided to have a party for Arwen.
Ffion tries desperately not to cry
Ffion is fighting back the tears as
"This is the best I could manage"
Iolo says that this is the best cake he could manage;  she explains that it has been a difficult few days,
Very good at such short notice
and tells him the cake is great.
The candles are lit . . .
He lights the five candles, and they all sing happy birthday to Arwen;
. . . and then blown out again
she blows out the candles, with a little help.   Siôn thinks that with the size of this cake, he should get some large plates.
"It's better that Gethin doesn't know"
Ffion whispers to him that she cannot tell Gethin;  “It’s better that he doesn’t know – it’s best to keep the whole thing away from this place.”
"So you weren't aware that Sioned had a history of bullying?"
The interrogation continues;  “So you weren’t aware that Sioned has a history of bullying?   But I have school reports here that say the contrary.
This is all too much for Eileen
“Did you know that Sioned was abusing Ed?   That she was hitting him?   May I remind you that you have sworn to tell the truth?   Did Sioned ever admit that she was hitting Ed?”
Sioned is by now regretting the whole exercise;  “You might as well handcuff me yourself!” she rages.
"Is there any way I can answer the questions without lying?"
Her mother asks if there is any way she can answer the questions without lying, by saying that she hit Ed to defend herself or something.
"If the prosecutor sees a hole in the evidence . . ."
Gwyneth points out that if the prosecutor sees a hole in the evidence, they will go after it.
"Do you really think I'm your best chance?"
Eileen apologises, “Sorry, Sioned, I want to help you, but do you really think I’m your best chance?”   Gwyneth tells her that she now has an idea of the kind of questions they will ask,
"You'll go to pieces!"
but Sioned predicts that her mother will go to pieces.
“That’s my final chance gone,” groans Sioned,
"Stop this nonsense!"
and tells Gwyneth, “Stop this nonsense – you’ve been on that stand yourself.   Can you really see Mam standing there and persuading them she’s telling the truth?
"I'm going to jail!"
“It’s about time I started facing it – I’m going to jail!”
