Diane walks along the street
Diane is walking along the street when she encounters Chester,
"I'm going to meet Hannah"
who is going to meet Hannah for lunch.   Then Eifion comes round the corner
"The woman from planet Vega!"
and comments, “Oh, here she is – the woman from planet Vega!   I hear that you’ve all turned vegan – you must run the house with an iron fist!”
She replies that there are a lot of benefits of being vegan, but he insists that she will end up in hospital, due to a lack of nutrition.   Chester tells Eifion not to speak to her like that,
"Vega is a star, not a planet!"
and points out that Vega is a star, not a planet.   Eifion walks away, exhorting them to, “Enjoy your lentils!”
Ed has a lot on his mind
Ed is looking preoccupied when Kelly comes downstairs;  she knows that he is worried about the court case, and assures him that it is going to be OK.
"Not even Eileen is on Sioned's side now"
“Not even Eileen is on Sioned’s side now,” she tells him,
"She's not on our side either"
but he reminds her that Eileen is not on their side either.
“Hang in there, Ed,” she encourages him,
"I'm taking you somewhere nice"
“Once it’s over, I’m going to kidnap you and take you somewhere nice – a waterfall where we can relax and get some peace and quiet.”
"Thank you, Kelly"
He agrees that would be nice, and thanks Kelly, who tells him that is what friends are for.
DJ takes a great mouthful of meat
In the Deri, DJ calls Chester across and makes a great show of biting into his burger;
"You won't last long!"
“I can see it on your face – you won’t last long!”
"Chester knows the benefits of being vegan"
Hannah informs him that Chester knows the benefits of being vegan.
"I'll give you a week!"
“You look as if you’re under strain to me,” comments DJ, “I’ll give you a week!”
"I'd expect you to take it more seriously"
Chester replies, “Do you know what, DJ?   I’d expect someone who’s almost diabetic to take food-related issues more seriously.
This makes DJ think
“Just saying – enjoy your burger!”
Oh, Ed!"
Diane comes out of the café with two coffees, and shouts to Ed;  she wants to wish him well for Thursday,
"I won't be easy, reliving it all"
but warns that it will not be easy, as he is the one who will have to speak about the abuse and relive it all.
Ed's confidence is rapidly draining away . . .
Listening to her, Ed is becoming rather uneasy,
. . . as he heads for the chippy
and then walks on towards the chippy
"That was below the belt, Chester!"
Hannah reprimands Chester, saying his remark was below the belt, and that he cannot use people’s health to score points.   When DJ comes to the bar,
"Sorry, DJ, I went too far"
Chester apologises to him, “Sorry, I went too far.”
"Inhumane farms, which put profit first"
Hannah maintains that he feels very strongly about it, and if it were not for health reasons, it would be worth doing as a protest against inhumane farms, which put profit before animal welfare.
Cadno takes exception to this pronouncement
Eifion and Cadno arrive during this statement, which Cadno dismisses as nonsense;  “You have no idea how hard it is to make a living out of farming.   You’re messing around with your fads!   You should support local businesses, before they disappear – just think before you speak!”
"She wasn't happy, was she?"
She and Eifion walk out, while Chester comments, “She wasn’t happy, was she?”
"Methinks she doth protest too much"
and Hannah suspects that Cadno is protesting too much.
Ed is now downhearted
Ed walks rather abruptly into the café:
"I don't think I can do this!"
he tells Kelly, “I don’t think I can do this – I’ll have to relive that hell in court!”
"Don't give up now, Ed, please!"
She points out that people will then realise how horrible Sioned was, and urges him not to give up now.
"I really don't think I can go through it"
“I really don’t think I can go through it,” he adds.
Intruders at Penrhewl
Cadno is working in the farmyard when Hannah and Chester creep up and hide behind a wall;  as they look over the wall,
"It was here – the first time we . . ."
Chester smiles and recalls, “Penrhewl – don’t you remember?   The first time we . . .”   She concludes that he is in a really weird mood today, but he prefers to call it romantic.   She urges him to take this seriously.
The livestock watch the pair of them
As Cadno is no longer there, they venture into the farmyard;
"Are we going to burn the sheds down?"
“So what are we going to do?” Chester enquires, “Set the animals free?   Burn the sheds down?”   She informs him that they are going to collect evidence on her phone.
"I'm worried he's going to have a breakdown"
Kelly comes into the shop, and gets straight to the point;  “Ed is threatening not to testify – something about reliving the abuse.   I’m worried that he’s going to have a breakdown.”
"I can't do much to help"
Eileen does not think that she she can be of any assistance,
"If you testified against Sioned . . ."
but Kelly asks, “Do you think, if you testify against Sioned . . . I don’t know what else to do.”
"But I'm her mother"
Eileen protests that she is Sioned’s mother, and that not to testify on her behalf is that one thing – but what Kelly wants is quite another.
"Ed needs our help!"
“But it’s the right thing to do!” squeals Kelly, “Ed needs our help!”   Eileen agrees to have a word, if Kelly thinks it will help, and Kelly is very grateful.
"Have I done the right thing?"
Eileen wonders if she has made the right decision.
Hannah continues her reconnaissance, taking photos through the windows of the sheds
Hannah collects photographic evidence
and of the cattle.   Cadno notices, comes over and demands what they are doing.
"What are you doing with that on my land?"
“What are you doing with that on my land?”
"Dodgy farming methods"
Chester speaks up;  “It’s time that people knew the truth about dodgy farming methods.”   Cadno objects to him attacking her way of life, but Chester insists that she is in the wrong, and not them, for mistreating animals and things.
"No animal is mistreated on this farm!"
“No animal is mistreated on this farm!” Cadno emphasises, “This is a free-range, organic farm.   If you want to know how things work, just ask – come on, I’ll take you round.”
"Right, come on, Hannah"
Chester wants to leave,
"No, I want to learn more"
but Hannah is interested in learning more,
"You can stuff your animals!"
so he goes, telling Cadno to stuff her animals.
"I know how you feel"
Eileen arrives at number 10;  she tells Ed, “I know that this is difficult for you,” and he acknowledges that he is just not strong enough.   “I know how you feel,” she continues.
"I have to stand in front of those strangers"
He argues that she cannot understand how he feels;  “I have to stand in front of all those strangers and explain the bruises, the threats, the belittling, the shame –
"Everything Sioned's done to me"
“everything Sioned’s done to me – while having nowhere to hide – it will all be out there.   And after going through all that, she’ll probably find a way to get the better of me!
"I'm scared, Eileen!"
“She always does!   I’m scared!”
"We're like puppets in Sioned's hands"
Eileen commiserates, agreeing that she is also scared;  “That’s the power Sioned has over us – we’re like puppets, and she has played with us for so long that even now, when we know what is the right thing to do, we are still afraid to see it through.
"I've had enough of being scared!"
“I’ve had enough of being scared!”   Ed looks surprised.
"It felt right for me"
At Penrhewl, Hannah confesses that she went vegan because it felt right for her, and the others were the competitive ones.   Over a cup of tea, Cadno asks what her verdict is on the farm;
"To be honest, I'm quite impressed!"
“Well, I’ve got to be honest, I’m quite impressed!”
"We're not all inhumane farmers"
Cadno points out that they are not all inhumane farmers who put profit first;
"Yes, I did go a bit too far"
Hannah admits she went a bit too far in the Deri, and can see why Cadno was angry.
"What's she doing here?"
Eifion comes in and is rather angry to see Hannah there;
"We're talking like adults"
Cadno informs him that they have talked like adults and agreed to disagree.   He grumbles, “I’m surprised at you, welcoming someone who opposes our livelihood.
"Remember, we caught them in our bed!"
“Don’t be fooled – she and Chester were caught in our bed – can you trust them?   Let me know when she has left!”
"It was never enough for Sioned"
As Ed brings Eileen a cup of tea, she goes on, “However much rope I gave Sioned, it was never enough,”
"You can't blame yourself for what Sioned has done"
and he assures her that she cannot blame herself for the things Sioned has done.
"What are you doing, then?"
“Can’t I?” Eileen replies, “What are you doing, then?   We have to do something about this now, or Sioned will carry on and get worse and worse – just like when she was a little girl.
Eileen is adamant they must take action
“And someone else will have to go through what you did – or perhaps worse!”
Ed comments, “You said ‘we’?” and she assures him that she is not going to let him go through this on his own.
"This is the only way!"
“We don’t have a choice,” she continues, “It is going to be a cruel lesson for Sioned, but this is the only way!”
"Sorry I made life difficult"
Hannah leaves Penrhewl, apologising for making life difficult for Cadno, and saying that Chester will be worried about her.
"I made it myself"
Cadno admires her knitted scarf, which Hannah made herself, and is jealous of her knitting skills.   “I’d love to make jumpers for my boys, like Auntie Marian did for me –
Cadno has no time for knitting
“but there aren’t enough hours in the day as it is.”
"Can we trust Chester alone?"
At Bryntirion, Diane and DJ are ready to leave;  they are joining Dai at the Deri.   DJ asks, “Can we trust Chester here alone – not to eat meat and things?”
"There's no meat in the house"
but Diane points out there is now no meat in the house.
Chester hears someone coming
As soon as they leave the house, Chester goes to one of the kitchen drawers, but then is interrupted by Hannah.
"Do you want to know how it went?"
“Do you want to know how it went?” she asks, but Chester seems quite disinterested, prompting her to query,
"We are all right, aren't we?"
“We are all right, aren’t we?”   When he assures her that they are, she goes up for a shower.
He returns to the drawer . . .
Now that the coast is clear, he once again opens the drawer, and extricates a hidden pork pie,
. . . and munches on a delicious pork pie
which he eats with obvious appreciation.
"Why did you invite her to the house?"
At Penrhewl, Eifion comes back inside and demands why Cadno invited Hannah to the house;
"I don't know what she'll think now"
she replies, “I was trying to change her views, but I don’t know what she’ll think now, after you were so rude.”
"I don't care about her views"
He does not care about Hannah’s views, and she admonishes him,
"You have a lot of growing up to do"
“You have a lot of growing up to do.”
“How can you be friends with someone like her?” he asks,
"Right, I'm going to fetch the boys"
but she insists that she must leave to go and collect the boys.
Ed is doing some ironing
In the evening, Kelly returns home to find Ed ironing his shirt;
"Did Eileen visit you?"
she asks if Eileen visited him, and he assumes that Kelly asked her to.
"Well, I'm indebted to you!"
“Well, I’m indebted to you, again!” he announces,
"She's going to testify against Sioned!"
“She’s going to testify against Sioned!”
"You're joking?"
Kelly cannot believe it, but Ed warns her that there is one problem, and her face falls;
"I'm hopeless at ironing!"
“I’m hopeless at ironing!”
"Good job you have me, then!"
She thinks that it is a good job he has her, in that case,
They embrace
and they hug each other.
