3 November 2017

"There are so many phones available"
Chester is looking on his tablet, and tells his mother there are so many phones available;
"Mine conks out all the time"
his conks out all the time.   Britt tells him that it will have to do;
"Going to pay for it yourself, are you?"
“You’re going to pay for it yourself, are you?” she demands, but he points out that they are not exactly skint.
“How did you turn out to be so selfish?” Britt goes on, her voice increasing in volume,
Britt gets very angry . . .
“You’re not throwing money away on something you already have!”
. . . and Chester wonders what that was about
Chester wonders what has got into her.
"You two have got too close too quickly"
At Bryntirion, Dai is lecturing Hannah over breakfast, “All I’m saying is that you two have got too close too quickly.
"When I was your age . . ."
“When I was your age, it was just a few words on paper, a few phone calls.  You’ll have run out of things to say to each other at this rate.”
"Leave them alone, Dad"
DJ urges his father to leave them alone, but Dai continues, “At least Chester’s gone away, and my fridge will be left alone for a while.”
"Don't worry – he'll be back tonight!"
Hannah enlightens him, “Don’t worry – he’ll be back tonight!”
"We'll eat the steaks before he gets here!"
Dai tells DJ that in that case, the two steaks in the fridge are going to be their lunch, so DJ will go to the shop to get a few mushrooms.
Dai's talk about Colin's dancing makes DJ think
Dai warns him of Colin going on about dancing, and that says that it is a shame DJ and Diane had to withdraw, as Colin needs to be brought down a peg or two.
"It would be stupid to sell now"
Garry advises Britt that it will be a stupid decision to sell now, so she invites him to buy her out of the chippy.
"I don't have the money"
“And another thing – I don’t have the money,” he tells her,
"I'll sell to someone else, then!"
so she determines that she will sell it to anyone to get the money.   He points out that she cannot do that without his permission.
"I want my money!"
She screams loudly, “I want my money!”
"What sort of trouble are you in?"
and he demands what sort of trouble she is in.   “Oh Gar, I was scammed!” she wails,
"I've lost Colin's money – all of it!"
“I’ve lost Colin’s money, all of it –
Garry is staggered to hear this
now are you going to help me?”
Elgan has been invited for a pint
Elgan has received a text from Garry, asking if he fancies a pint;  the doctor looks at himself in the mirror.
DJ interrupts Anita's breakfast . . .
DJ visits Anita, who is in the middle of her breakfast;  “I just wanted to ask – and it’s fine if you don’t want to – but I thought it was worth asking,
. . . and explains he wants a dance partner
“would you be willing to be my dance partner?”   She hopes that he can control his feet better than getting his words out,
"We shall have to see how good you are"
and will have to see how good he is before giving an answer.   They agree to meet later.
"What did the bank have to say?"
Garry asks what the bank had to say, and Britt tells him there is not much chance of retrieving the money;  he is shocked to hear that the police have not been told.
"Those people could be anywhere!"
“They’re not going to put the money back in the account!” Britt snarls, “Those people could be anywhere!”
"So you haven't done anything!"
Garry comes to the conclusion that she has not done anything, but her excuse is that neither the bank, nor the police, are going to put £147,000 back in that account.
"They all said how stupid I've been"
“All they’ve been saying is how stupid I’ve been – and you’re saying the same!”
"You should be putting pressure on the police"
“You should have been on the phone putting pressure on the police,” he protests, but she has read enough about this sort of thing to know she is never going to see that money again.
“You’ve got businesses, ways of getting money,” she insists,
"It's not that simple, Britt"
but he points out that is not as simple as that.   “There must be something you can do to help me – I’ve got nowhere else to turn!” she says,
"I don't know what else to do!"
“Please!   I don’t know what else to do!”   Garry agrees to think about it, but he is not promising anything.
Gwen hands Colin his coffee
In the café, Gwen serves Colin with his coffee,
"Doing anything over the weekend?"
and he asks Gaynor about her plans for the weekend.
"I'm 50 on Sunday"
“The girls are taking me to London – I’m 50 on Sunday.”
"Ooh – you kept that quiet!"
Anita says that Gaynor has kept this quiet and decides they will have to organise something;  after all, Gaynor forced her to celebrate her big birthday.
Colin remembers that when Gaynor was 30, she said she did not want any fuss,
"Then she cried because she didn't have a party"
but then cried because he had not arranged a party.   She insists that it should be only a small party, because she wants a clear head tomorrow.
"You'll need a clear head, too!"
DJ has just come in and tells Anita she will need a clear head too, as they have to practise a lot;
"You're entering as well?"
this concerns Colin, but he insists that they have no chance of being ready in time,
"You'll never match Anita's standard!"
and warns DJ that he will never match the standard of Anita’s dancing.
Anita reckons that there is potential here;
"It won't be as easy as you think, Colin Evans!"
“Maybe winning that cup won’t be as easy as you think, Colin Evans!”  she tells him.
"Gaynor is celebrating her birthday in the Deri"
When Elgan comes into the café, Anita asks if he is doing anything later, as Gaynor is celebrating her birthday in the Deri.   Gaynor herself says that it will only be something small,
"I may come"
and the doctor replies that he may come.
Colin is in a panic
Colin sends an urgent text to Sheryl;  “We need to practise today!   We’ve got competition!”
Chester is home for lunch
At lunchtime, Chester comes home, wanting something to eat;  Britt  protests that she gave him money for lunch earlier.   She is looking at a website which proclaims ‘Nurse loses £40,000 in scam’.
"I've found a really cheap phone"
“But I listened to what you said, and I found a really cheap phone,” he tells her, “It was a bargain.   You told me to be careful with money and I’ve done that.”
"What's it going to take for you to wise up!"
“Good grief, Chester!” she explodes, “What’s it going to take for you to wise up?   Tablet, trainers, phone – as if you haven’t got enough already!
"You're throwing it away!"
“Colin gave you that money for your education, and you’re throwing it all away!”
"I haven't touched Colin's money"
He protests that he has not touched Colin’s money, “But I have!” blurts out Britt,
"It's all gone – the job lot!"
“Colin’s money – it’s all gone – the job lot!   I was scammed!   And I swallowed everything – I gave them passwords and everything.   Colin has scratched a living throughout his life – now was his chance, and I’ve ruined it all!
His mother's tirade has an effect on Chester
“And you’re no better – everything has gone to hell, because Colin is innocent enough to trust scum like us!   Colin deserves better – we’ve ruined his life.”   Chester looks very upset by this outburst.
They arrive at a dance class
Anita takes DJ to a proper dancing class, and he feels very out of place;
"These are all pros here!"
“These are all pros,” he says, and she tells him that they will be too.
"Hello, Anita – it's the cha-cha next!"
The dance teacher announces that it is cha-cha next, so DJ concludes that he does not have much choice but to participate.
DJ appears to be coping quite well
They begin their fancy footwork.
“You’re going over to stay with Hannah, are you?” says Britt, “You know what?
"It was unfair, taking it out on you"
“I would leave too, if someone spoke to me like that.   It was unfair, taking it out on you.   I’ve got no-one to blame but myself.”
"I cancelled the phone"
He advises that he has cancelled the phone, and she assures him, “Everything will be all right – Garry’s going to sort everything out.   I didn’t mean what I said – you haven’t done anything wrong,
"But you're not like me"
“I might have made a mess of things with Colin, but you’re not like me.”
"I'll see you tomorrow, Mam"
Chester says he will see her tomorrow and leaves;
Chester looks very concerned
he certainly does not look happy as he goes out into the street.
This appears to be rather a small 'party'
Gaynor feels rather embarrassed, as the only person to turn up at the party is her ex-husband;
"Elgan is pretending I don't exist"
“And Elgan is over there, pretending I don’t exist,” she whines, but Colin points out that it is early yet.
"If no-one else turns up by the time I finish my drink . . ."
“If no-one else turns up before I finish my drink, I’m going home,” she decides.
"I know it's not my business . . ."
Garry is chatting with Elgan;  “I know its not my business, but you haven’t been yourself recently.”
"Just too much to drink"
The doctor blames too much to drink on an empty stomach.
"You disappeared pretty quickly after that bang"
Garry goes on, “And last night – you disappeared pretty quickly after that bang.”   Elgan replies that he was very tired after a long day at the surgery.
"You've obviously seen through me"
“Listen – you’ve obviously seen through me,” he admits, “I don’t like talking about it, but this time of year is always difficult for me – I try to keep going and not let it get me down, but it’s difficult.
"I'm a private man"
“I’m a private man, I like to deal with things my own way.   It will pass – it always does.”
Chester arrives at Bryntirion
Dai is reading the Western Post when Chester arrives;  “I heard you were back,” Dai comments, “I hope you ate before coming here – no, I’m sure you haven’t.
He gets a sarcastic reception from Dai
“What can I cook you now?   Lobster Thermidor or Beef Wellington?”
"A plague of locusts would eat less than you!"
Chester makes no reply, but just sits, looking miserable as Dai rambles on, “A plague of locusts would eat less than you – tell me, is every teenager as much of a scav as you?”
"I don't want anything"
Hannah proposes that Chester help her with her coursework, while Dai cooks the dinner, but Chester protests that he does not want anything.
"You Monks are all the same!"
This does not stop Dai, who goes on about, “You Monks are all the same!”
"I got the fish out of the freezer"
When Hannah says she has taken fish from the freezer, Dai realises, “There were only two in there,” and she tells him it will be one for her and one for Chester.   They go to study some design and technology.
Anita and DJ are giving a good performance
At the dance class, DJ and Anita seem to have got into the rhythm;  she does not know why he was making all that fuss earlier.
"I think I've found Cwmderi's Fred Astaire
“You’re quite a pro yourself – I think I’ve found Cwmderi’s Fred Astaire!”
DJ replies, “Come on, then, Ginger!”
"Ooh – passionate!"
and the dance teacher describes him as passionate.
Chester is in a world of his own
Chester’s mind is on other things as Hannah asks him, “What are the advantages of 3-D printing?”   He looks blankly at her,
"It's time you checked on the fish, Uncle David"
and she suggests that it is time Dai checked on the fish.
"Are you going to tell me what's going on?"
Then she asks Chester, “Are you going to tell me what’s going on?   There is something wrong.”
"Perhaps we're not right for each other any more"
He answers that perhaps they are not right for each other any more, and that she would be better off without him.
"You deserve a lot better than me!"
As she looks horrified, he continues, “I just feel like I’ll let you down at some point – I’m serious – you deserve a lot better than me.”
Hannah cannot believe what she is hearing
She demands what has happened, but he replies, “Maybe we should stay away from each other for a while.”
"Well, don't let me keep you"
Hannah tries to put on a hard expression as she says, “Well, if that’s how you feel, don’t let me keep you!”
"I may see you on Monday"
Close to tears, Chester picks up his bags and leaves, commenting that he may see her on Monday.
"Where's Desperate Dan gone now?"
Dai asks her, “Where’s Desperate Dan gone now?   Home?   Good, more dinner for us!”
"I've lost my appetite"
Hannah she tells him he can have it all, as she has lost her appetite.
Elgan looks depressed
Elgan is sitting glumly in the Deri when Anita and DJ come in,
Two more have joined the 'party'
and apologise to Gaynor for being late.   “Where have you been, then?   Practising?” enquires Colin;  then he asks what dance they are going to do,
"You'll see on the night, like everyone else!"
and Anita informs him that they will see on the night, like everyone else.
"Sheryl and I are nearly there now"
“Sheryl and all I are nearly there now – we don’t need many more rehearsals,” Colin boasts.
Gaynor tells him that this silly bravado does not suit him, and asks DJ not to wind him up any more.
"Thanks for the chat, Garry"
Garry comes into the bar and Elgan thanks him for the chat;  he is about to go home,
"Were celebrating Gaynor's birthday"
but Anita stops him to remind him that they are celebrating Gaynor’s birthday.   He says that he cannot stay for a drink, as he has to go, but wishes her happy birthday.
"Obviously he has not forgiven me"
Gaynor says that she now realises how she stands, and obviously he has not forgiven her.   She tells Anita the only plan Elgan has is to stay as far away from her as possible.
"You promised you would help!"
Britt asks Garry if he has had time to think;  “You promised you would help!” she says,
"I didn't promise any such thing"
but he denies that he promised anything, and has more important things on his mind than Britt’s relationship.
"I'm last in the pecking order now!"
“Of course – I’m the last in the pecking order these days, aren’t I?” she snarls.   Garry demands why he should go into his own pocket to stop Colin getting hurt.   She replies, “I told Chester you were going to sort things – but there we are, I should have known better.
"Uncle Garry only cares about himself!"
“At the end of the day, Uncle Garry only cares about himself!”
He emphasises that she is living in cloud cuckoo land if she thinks she can keep this from Colin;
"Tell him – before you lose the plot completely!"
“Do yourself a favour and tell him – before you lose the plot completely!”
