17 November 2017

"Can I talk to the pharmacist, please?"
Eileen is on the phone;  “Can I talk to the pharmacist, please?   Would you be able to recognise tablets if I brought them in to you?
"I think my daughter's taken something"
“I think my daughter’s taken something she wasn’t supposed to.”
"Megan's shop is closed again"
Anita finds that Megan’s shop is closed once again;  she tells DJ that no-one has seen her all week.
"Is your dancing dress in there?"
When he suspects that the bag of clothes Anita is holding contains her dancing dress,
"No, that's my lucky dress!"
she responds, “No – that’s my lucky dress!   If it wasn’t for that dress, maybe you or I might be lying in a coma.”
DJ invites her for a coffee, and comments that Megan should not have trusted that Carl bloke;
"If something sounds too good to be true . . ."
“If something sounds too good to be true – it usually is.”   As they walk away from the shop,
Megan has been lurking out of sight
we see Megan emerging from her hiding place behind the counter.
"Fantastic news, Mam!"
Sioned arrives in the shop flat, announcing that she has fantastic news;  “Gwyneth is going to testify for me – she’s going to say that I never touched Ed, and that she thought he was nasty to me.”
"And why is she willing to do that?"
Eileen wonders why Gwyneth is willing to do that now, and Sioned angrily replies, “Because she’s a good friend and wants to help me.”
“What about Gwern?” her mother enquires, “Isn’t she worried what could happen when they find out she’s lying?”
"All that matters is things are going right for me"
Sioned insists that all that matters is that things are going right for her at last.
"What did I do to deserve her?"
When her mother makes no further comment, she turns and leaves.
"We're on the way to the hospital"
Ffion arrives at Y Felin, and tells Siôn that she is on the way to the hospital;  “Arwen is in the car – will you come with us?” she pleads, and Siôn readily agrees.
"She doesn't know that there is anything the matter"
“She doesn’t know there is anything the matter,” she says, and he points out that perhaps there is not.
“I take it that you still haven’t told Gethin,” he adds, but Ffion says there is no point in worrying him, as he is suffering enough himself already.
"Gethin has no idea what's going on?"
Siôn reproves her, “So he is at home and has no idea what’s going on?   I’m not trying to make you feel bad, but how will he feel when you tell him where you’ve been?”
Ffion wants to concentrate on one thing at a time
She replies that if that is the only thing she has to worry about, she will be happy, and is in a hurry to go.
"There's a light on in there, DJ"
Anita returns to Apêl Maenan, and sees a light on;  she is worried about Megan.   DJ bangs on the door and shouts for Megan to open it;
"I shall have to call the police, Megan!"
as Jason and Sara join them, DJ threatens to call the police if she does not open the door.
"Probably too ashamed to show her face"
Jason comments that she is probably too ashamed to show her face.
"I'm a foolish old woman who should know better"
Then the door opens, and Megan appears;  “You’re right, Jason, I do feel awful about the whole thing.   I’m a foolish old woman who should know better.
"I regret not listening to you"
“I sorely regret not listening to you.”   Anita wants to take her bag of clothes inside.
"If you've come to shout, then go ahead"
“If you’ve come here to shout at me, then go ahead,” Megan tells them,  “There’s nothing you can say that I haven’t already said to myself,” but Anita maintains that no-one blames her for this.
"Of course I'm to blame"
“Of course I’m to blame – I gave Carl the work – everyone told me not to – I was tricked, wasn’t I?”
"You're not the first, and you won't be the last"
Anita tries to console her;  “You’re not the first, and you won’t be the last to fall into a trap like that.”   DJ points out that acting as if she has something to hide does not help, and Anita insists that she come with them for lunch.
"The last thing I want to do is go out for lunch"
“Oh no – you’re being very nice to me, but the last thing I want to do is go out for lunch,” protests Megan, so Anita suggests that they go over to number 10 instead.
Eileen half-heartedly eats her lunch
Eileen is sitting alone in the Deri, eating her salad, when she is joined by Kelly;
"Sioned's excelled herself!"
“Do you know what Sioned’s latest plan is?   She’s excelled herself!   I’ve just been with Ed to see his solicitor.   Apparently, Sioned is going to make a counter-charge and claim that Ed has been abusing her.
"We all know
“Oh, and Gwyneth’s a main witness – we all know what an accomplished liar she is!”
"I can't stop Sioned"
Eileen says she is unable to stop Sioned, who will do anything to avoid going to jail.
"Do you really want to be part of this farce?"
Kelly asks, “Do you really want to be part of this farce? Standing up in court and saying she’s innocent?”
Eileen knows how much Kelly thinks of Ed, but she insists that they are just friends.
"You must stop putting me under this pressure"
“You have to stop putting me under this pressure,” she goes on, but Kelly just does not want Ed to suffer because of all this deception.
"I brought him back here, Eileen"
“I brought him back here – I’d be devastated if he lost everything because of me!”   Eileen points out that her situation is not so black and white, and just wants to finish her lunch in peace.   Kelly gets up and leaves the Deri.
"I would have done the same, Megan"
At number 10, Anita assures Megan that she would have gone for the cheapest quote too.
"You were doing it for the chapel and the community"
“You were doing it for the chapel and the community,” adds DJ.
Megan replies that she should have been a lot more thorough with their references.
Megan has dumped Gilmor
“I accepted Gilmor’s word on everything – he was full of excuses – I’ve brought the relationship to an end, as he isn’t the man I thought he was.”
"I think a glass of wine is called for"
Anita is of the opinion that this is a situation where a glass of wine is called for.
“I’ve called at the hospital every day to see how Gaynor is –
"I made sure there was no-one from Cwmderi there"
“but only after checking there was no-one from Cwmderi there,” Megan continues, “The fact is, if I had given the work to APD, she wouldn’t be lying in hospital now, would she?
"I don't know how I'm going to face people"
“I don’t know how I’m going to face people like Colin, Ffion and Gethin.”
DJ points out that the best thing to do is to carry on as normal;
"Let's go to the Deri later"
“Let’s go to the Deri later.”   Anita advises the sooner she faces Ffion and Gethin, the better,
"We'll come with you, Megan"
and they will come with her.
"The waiting is the worst"
Siôn and Ffion sit in the hospital waiting room, and he comments that waiting for the results is the worst time.   “I didn’t know they were going to keep her in after the biopsy,” frets Ffion,
"I'll go home and get her stuff"
“I think I’ll go home to fetch Arwen’s stuff.”   Siôn is pleased to stay here and wait for her;
"And I'll have to tell Gethin now"
“And I’ll have to tell Gethin now,” she adds.
"Kelly is hassling me"
Eileen walks into Sioned’s flat, and reports that Kelly is hassling her;  Sioned replies, “Don’t tell me – Ed?
"She's obsessed!"
“She’s obsessed!”
"Pleading not guilty is one thing, but . . ."
Eileen tells her that pleading not guilty is one thing, but it is another to start a case against Ed  on top of that.
"Well, why not?"
“Well, with Gwyneth as a witness, and the fact that I can, why not?” Sioned demands.   Her mother reminds her that he is innocent and she has already made his life a nightmare.
"Why have you turned against me?"
Sioned wants to know, “Why have you turned against me?   Because of Kelly?”
Eileen simply wants her to do the right thing – to plead guilty.
"You won't get a long sentence"
“You won’t get a long sentence – you can do your time and give Ed peace of mind.”
Once again Sioned emphasises that she cannot go to jail, and her mother knows how much of an effect this has had on her.
"I don't want to live if I have to go to jail!"
“I don’t want to live if I have to go to jail!” Sioned wails.
"You'll be wanting these, then"
Eileen informs her that is why she has brought these tablets back.   “Do you want me to take an overdose?” demands Sioned.
"They say vitamin D lifts your spirits"
“No, just one a day,” answers Eileen, “They say that vitamin D lifts your spirits, especially in Wales, where there is not much sun.   I don’t know why I’m surprised –
"You can always manage to go lower!"
“however low I think you can go, you always manage to go lower!”
"You want me to go to jail, don't you?"
“You can’t blame me for doing all I can to help myself!” Sioned snarls, and once again her mother points out that she is guilty.   “You want me to go to jail, don’t you?”
Eileen denies this but does not want Ed to get into trouble – or Gwyneth.   “Does Gwyneth know about these vitamins?
Eileen makes her demands
“I want you to tell her – and I want you to drop the accusations against Ed – and for once in your life, do the right thing!”
"I have something to tell you, Geth"
When Ffion arrives back at Cysgod y Glyn, she has something to tell Gethin;
"What's happened?"
he wonders what has happened.   “I haven’t been completely honest with you about Arwen,”
"I had to take Arwen back to hospital"
she begins, “I had to take her back to hospital – you know she’s been having these problems with her eye?   I took her for another checkup.”
Then she chickens out, and reports that Arwen is fine;
Then she starts inventing stories . . .
“But while I was there, Nesta phoned to say that she and the kids were going to Bluestone, and Cai had to pull out at the last minute, so she asked if Arwen and I would go with them.   Do you mind?
. . . about going to Bluestone
“Arwen’s gone already – Nesta came to pick her up on the way.   Sorry, there is no room for you.”
She alleges that she feels guilty, going gallivanting while he is ill,
"You deserve to go gallivanting!"
but he insists that she deserves to go gallivanting, and he is feeling much better.   Then the buzzer sounds;
"Oh no – not Megan!"
they are not pleased when they hear that it is Megan.
She comes in, full of apologies
She says that she has come to see how they are, and to ask for forgiveness for employing that scoundrel.   “I should have been more careful!”
"We're lucky Arwen is still here"
Gethin tells her that Arwen has had to have scans, and they are lucky she is still here.
"But she's fine now"
Ffion adds that Arwen is fine now,
Megan leaves them
and Megan, still apologising, leaves them.
"What if Gaynor doesn't recover?"
In the Deri, Jason wonders what will happen if Gaynor does not recover;  “If you employ dodgy builders, that’s what you get – dodgy work!”
"Do you want to put her in the stocks?"
Sara demands what he expects Megan to do;  “Put herself in the stocks and ask people to throw tomatoes at her?   All Megan’s guilty of is trusting someone she shouldn’t have – and we’ve all done that.”
Megan does actually turn up at the Deri
Megan rather fearfully joins DJ and Anita;  she insists on buying their drinks, maintaining that it is the least she can do.
Sara tells Jason to say something
As she orders them at the bar, Sara prompts Jason to say something.   He offers to buy the drinks;
"Make that a large brandy for Megan, Dan!"
“After the week you’ve had, you deserve it, Megan!”
Ffion is back at the hospital
Ffion returns to the hospital, and is told that
"Arwen is with the doctor"
Arwen is with the doctor but will be out soon.   Siôn reports that they have been great with her.   As she sits down, Siôn can tell that she has not told Gethin;
"Where does he think you are?"
“Where does he think you are?”
"Bluestone – with Nesta"
“Bluestone – with Nesta,” she tells him, and he advises that she cannot keep lying like this.   “I was going to tell him, but just thinking about having to explain everything, and seeing his response, seeing his shock – I didn’t have the energy.”
"You've been hiding everything from him"
Siôn says, “Well, imagine the energy you’ll need to explain that you’ve been hiding everything from him – I don’t want to frighten you, but you never know.”
She insists on keeping it from Gethin
She is adamant that until they know exactly what is wrong, Gethin does not need to know anything.
She is keeping all her energy for Arwen
“The only thing I want to deal with now is Arwen – I want to keep all my energy for her!”
Sioned prepares for dinner
Sioned is laying the table for a meal when Eileen arrives once more;  she wonders if Gwyneth is around, and is told that she has gone out for some chips.
"Have you had time to think about our chat?"
“Have you had time to think about our chat?” Eileen asks, “About you doing the right thing – pleading guilty and giving Ed peace of mind?”
"This might shock you, but no!"
“This might shock you, Mam, but no,” Sioned replies, “I’m going to do everything I can to stay out of jail!”
"You'll have to do it without my help!"
Her mother says, “Well, you’ll have to do it without my help!
"I'm not putting an innocent man through hell!"
“It’s not easy for me, but I’m not putting an innocent man through hell!   I don’t have a choice.”
"It's your fault I'm like this!"
She is about to leave, but Sioned blocks her way;  “You owe me this – it’s your fault that I’m like this!
"You've always been cruel!"
“You’ve always been cruel!”
"Everyone has always done their best for you!"
Eileen points out that she has always done her best for Sioned, as has her father and Auntie Marian.
"Full of lies, deceitful – and evil!"
“But there is something in you that just isn’t right!   It’s full of lies, deceitful – and evil!   I’m not going to stand up in court and admit to that!”   She walks out.
