20 November 2017

Arwen is home from hospital . . .
Ffion and Arwen arrive home from hospital;  “It’s all over now, isn’t it?
. . . and Ffion is very protective of her
“We can forget all about it,” says Ffion, then receives a phone call from a withheld number.
Ffion has a phone call
What she is told does not seem to please her.
Hywel comes home unexpectedly . . .
In the salon, Sheryl is very surprised when Hywel walks in through the  door;  “What are you doing here?   You should have told me!” she protests.
. . . bearing gifts for Sheryl
He has a surprises for her – presents for her from every country he visited.
Tyler plays with Greta
At Number 7, Tyler is playing with Greta when Iolo returns home, having left one of his wrenches behind.
"I'm missing out on all the fun"
Tyler reports that they will be going out for lunch in a minute, and Iolo regrets missing out on all the fun.
"We don't spend much time together"
Tyler once again bewails the fact that they do not spend much time together,
"You're doing a good job, Ty"
but Iolo points out, “We knew what it was going to be like when we decided to adopt, and you’re doing a good job.”   He returns to his plumbing job.
"It's non-malignant"
Ffion and Arwen are now at Y Felin, where Siôn is told that the tumour is non-malignant.   “Pilo Astro something,” she says, “I don’t remember the exact name [PILOCYTIC ASTROCYTOMA].
"She's responding well to the steroids"
“It sounded like something from space, but they say she is responding well to the steroids.
Arwen seems to be quite resilient
“Maybe she won’t need treatment until she’s older and stronger.”
"You'll have to tell Gethin now"
Siôn concludes that one thing is certain – she will have to tell Gethin now.
"Why?   Nothing's changed"
“Why? she asks, “Nothing’s changed, has it?   It’s just that we have a name for it.”
"Gethin will want to help!"
He insists that she has to, as she cannot face this on her own;  “Gethin will want to help – don’t you think he should know?”
Ffion hurries Arwen away from Y Felin
Ffion completely rejects this idea, gets Arwen to put on her coat and they leave.
One of Hywel's photos
Hywel shows Sheryl photographs from his journey, from Nicaragua to Costa Rica;
Apparently Rhys found several girls
“Where Rhys found some other girl.”   She comments that the boy has only got one thing on his mind, and his father agrees that he had a whale of a time.
Sheryl wonders who Rhys takes after;  “Where were you when Rhys was chasing these Latin lovelies?” she enquires, and he answers that he was in bed.
"In bed – with who?"
“With who?” she demands.
Then she changes the subject;
"I'm going to stop the treatment"
“I’ve reached a decision about the trichologist – I’ve decided to stop the treatment, as I have to be realistic, and there is not much chance of my hair growing back, so what’s the point of throwing money away?”
"Could I collect Esther now?"
He does not seem very interested, but rather wants to go and collect Esther now,
"I can't wait to see her!"
as he cannot wait to see her.
"Come up, Siôn"
The buzzer sounds at Cysgod y Glyn, and Gethin discovers that it is Siôn;
"It's not right that Ffion is keeping this from you"
“It’s not right that Ffion is keeping this from you,” he says,
"Keeping what from me?"
which immediately attracts Gethin’s attention.
"She has a tumour on the brain"
“Arwen’s ill – Ffion took her to hospital for a biopsy.”   Gethin is aghast at this news, and is told, “She has a tumour on the brain –
"I'm telling the truth, Geth!"
“I’m sorry, Geth, I’m telling the truth!”
"You had no right to tell him!"
At that moment, Ffion comes in with Arwen, and realises from Gethin’s expression what has happened.   “You had no right to tell him!” she insists,
"I'm pleased that he did!"
but Gethin is very pleased that he did.
Siôn will take Arwen for a walk
Siôn offers to take Arwen for a walk, and Gethin welcomes his intervention.   On his way out, Siôn tells Ffion that he is sorry.
The meeting of the baby-minders
In the café, Hywel informs Tyler that he is tempted to go back there,
Hywel has too much at home
but he has too much here at home.
Tyler envies his calmness
Tyler is jealous of Hywel’s calmness;  he is reassured, “I know it was a bit of a shock when she landed with you like that,
"Things will improve with Greta"
“but things will improve – and I’ve had more practice than you.”
Tyler maintains that he could do with a break, and suggests to Hywel that they could go to the Deri for dinner tonight.   They could have a pint, and receive some tips from the master.
"Sheryl won't want to go out"
Hywel doubts that Sheryl will want to go out tonight, so Tyler, rather cheekily, says that he and Iolo will come over to them.
Tyler invites himself and Iolo to their house
“It will be a laugh – a little wine – it will be just like being back on holiday.”   Hywel is not left with much choice but to agree,
"Right, Esther, we have shopping to do!"
and tells Esther that they have some shopping to do.
Sheryl has just finished a phone call
In the salon, Sheryl is ending a phone call;  “I’m looking forward to seeing you, love.”   Then she resumes looking at Hywel’s holiday snaps,
A message for 'Welsh Romeo' appears . . .
but suddenly a message appears on the screen, “Hey my Welsh Romeo!   Did you make it back OK?”
. . . which Sheryl finds disconcerting
which causes some consternation.
"How could you keep something like this from me?"
“How could you keep something like this from me?” Gethin demands,
"I was trying to protect you"
and Ffion replies that it was not intentional, and she was trying to protect him.
“I don’t need to be protected!” he shouts,
"The last time I checked, I was your partner"
“The last time I checked, I was your partner – why on earth did you think keeping something like this from me would help things?”
"I didn't want to drag you into it"
“I just wanted to find a way out of this nightmare without having to drag you into it,” she says, but he is adamant he would have done anything to help her.   “I’m so sorry, Geth,” she tells him,
Gethin does not believe her
but he does not believe her;  he suspects that she had no intention of telling him, and is only apologising now because she has been caught.
"We need to concentrate on Arwen now"
She argues that she thought she was doing the right thing;  “I know I’ve made a mistake – but we need to concentrate on Arwen now.
Gethin will still support her 100% . . .
“Please forgive me.”   He assures her he would have supported her 100%, and that he will support her now as well.
. . . for which she is very grateful
She hugs him.
"You trying to make up for something?"
Sheryl returns home to find Hywel preparing a meal;  “Look at this!   Anyone would think you’re trying to make up for something,” she comments, “There’s a lot of food here for two people.”
Iolo and Tyler are coming over for dinner
Hywel announces that Iolo and Tyler are coming over for dinner;  Sheryl had been hoping to have a quiet night with him.
"It would have been nice if you warned me!"
“It would have been nice if you warned me!” but he replies that he did not get much warning either.
"You're full of surprises"
“You’re full of surprises since you came back,” she tells him, “I'm not sure what to make of it.   Iolo and Tyler?   Are we short of friends or something?
"The food had better be nice!"
“The food had better be nice!”
Iolo is told to go and get changed
Immediately Iolo comes home from work, he is told to go upstairs and get changed, as they are going to have dinner with Hywel and Sheryl.   “The babysitter has been organised, dinner is at seven, so go and get changed,” Tyler instructs.
At first he refuses . . .
Iolo replies that he is not going;  “We’ve chosen to adopt Greta, and we have to be conscientious!”
. . . but is gradually worn down by Tyler
Tyler informs him that Dani will be looking after Greta, and points out that it is just dinner.
"Hywel and Sheryl?"
Iolo is not sure about the the Hywel and Sheryl part, as they are not even very friendly with them.   He agrees, but very reluctantly.
Gethin brings Siôn a cup of tea;
Arwen is in bed
Ffion has put Arwen to bed, and Gethin thanks him for taking Arwen out.   “Right, as we are on the same wavelength,” Siôn begins,
"I think we need to discuss things"
“I think we need to discuss things – the results of the biopsy, and the options.   I don’t know about you, but I’d like to hear what the surgeon thinks.”
"It's not malignant"
Ffion points out, “I told you, the tumour is not malignant, and so I want to postpone any talk of surgery for as long as possible.
"She should have surgery as soon as possible"
Siôn disagrees, stressing that a tumour is a tumour, and that Arwen should have surgery as soon as possible.
Gethin backs Ffion on this matter
Gethin agrees with Ffion, and argues that there is no rush;  Siôn is not happy about this, but they do not want to discuss it any further.   “You heard what Ffion said, and that’s it!” Gethin tells him.
Sheryl does not look as if she enjoyed it
Iolo and Tyler have enjoyed their meal, and compliment Hywel on his cooking, while Sheryl looks decidedly uncomfortable.
Then the holiday photos come out again . . .
Then Hywel invites the boys to look at his photos;  “You don’t have to prove that you’ve been away,” grumbles Sheryl.
That’s Guatemala city,” he says,
. . . including this one . . .
but then there is a picture of a bikini-clad girl,
. . . and Sheryl immediately takes an interest
and Sheryl immediately takes more of an interest.
They feel rather superfluous now
He protests that it is just a girl they met out there, but Sheryl demands to know her name.
"She's the famous Becky, is she?"
When told that it is Becky, she exclaims, “Oh, she is the famous Becky, is she?   I saw the e-mail she sent you!”
"Right, I think we'll leave now"
Iolo considers that this is an opportune moment for them to leave,
"Thank you for dinner"
and, despite Hywel’s protests, they do so.
"I can't believe you did that!"
“I can’t believe you did that!” Hywel says, but Sheryl wants to know what is going on between him and this Becky, reminding him of the epithet ‘Welsh Romeo’.   He is outraged that she read his e-mail,
"What was I supposed to do?"
but she points out it was there, right in front of her, so what was she supposed to do.   Once more she demands what is going on.
He says she was a honeymoon organiser
He is forced to admit, “It was going to be a surprise – she was helping me organise a honeymoon for us!”
"I'll go to Esther"
Then Esther starts crying upstairs, and Sheryl goes up.
In the Deri, Iolo comments that their evening was short and sweet;  “It was an awkward situation –
"Did you expect me to sit there and watch the show?"
“did you expect me to sit there and watch the show?” he asks.   Tyler apologises for not asking him first about going over there,
"I needed a break. . ."
but maintains that he needed a break, a change;  he does not think that he is asking for the world,
". . . but Greta will always come first"
and assures Iolo that Greta will always come first.
"Sorry for thinking the worst of you"
Sheryl has settled Esther, and comes back downstairs;  she says that she is sorry for thinking the worst of him, but he does not blame her.
"I haven't been the perfect fiancé, have I?"
“I haven’t been the perfect fiancé since coming back, have I?   Inviting Iolo and Tyler – and and boring everyone with those photos.   And I didn’t discuss your hair properly with you this morning.
"Whatever you decide, I'll support you"
“Maybe I still feel I’m on holiday, and haven’t come back to reality, but listen, whatever you decide with your hair, I’ll support you.”
"Are we all right, then?"
She asks him if they are all right, then, and he replies, “Yes – if you still want to marry me, that is!”
"I think I shall have to"
She thinks that she will have to, otherwise they have just argued about a honeymoon that will not happen.
"Mrs Llywelyn!"
Hywel looks into her eyes, and says, “Mrs Llywelyn!”   Her response is that Cwmderi is full of them,
"Welsh Romeo!"
and they drink a toast to ‘Mr and Mrs Llywelyn!”
"I think I'm right in this case"
Siôn is still at Cysgod y Glyn, and says he is sorry to go on about it, but he honestly thinks he is right in this case.
"You think you're right all the time!"
Ffion tells him, “You think you’re right all the time, Siôn!   It was not fair for you to go behind my back and tell Gethin!”   He argues that Gethin had a right to know, and everyone connected to Arwen has a right to know.
"Ah . . . Macs!"
“Ah . . . Macs!” Ffion replies,
"Arwen's father should be part of the discussions"
and Siôn maintains that Arwen’s father should be part of these discussions.
"He doesn't need to know"
“He doesn’t need to know.   Things are complicated enough as they are,” Ffion tells him, “You just want another vote on your side.
"I know not telling Gethin was a mistake"
“He’s trying to sort his head out – how do you think something like this would affect him?   No – I know not telling Gethin was a mistake, but this is the right thing to do – and you know it.”
"You're putting your little girl's health at risk"
“But it doesn’t change the fact that you’re putting your little girl’s health at risk by not letting her have this operation,” Siôn alleges.
"I'd never do anything to endanger her life!"
Ffion refutes his assertion that she would do anything to endanger her daughter’s life.
"I want you to leave now!"
“As her mother, I have the final word, right?” she exclaims, “From now on, I don’t want you discussing Arwen’s health with me or anyone else – and I want you to leave now, please!   Siôn – just go!”
Ffion is very angry
She is very angry.
