27 November 2017

Things are still rather tense
On Monday morning, the atmosphere in number 10 is still rather fraught;
"You know what we discussed on Friday . . ."
Kelly says, “You know what we discussed on Friday – I want you to know that I accept that your feelings towards me aren’t the same as mine for you,
". . . I don't want any awkward . . ."
“and I don’t want any awkward . . .”
Ed assures her that he does not feel awkward;  he is sorry, but he just cannot stop thinking about Sioned.
"We used to love each other"
“It hurt so much when she was sent down.   We used to love each other.”
"But you don't love each other now!"
Kelly points out that they do not love each other now, and she knows his feelings are all over the place, but he should not confuse pity for Sioned with trying to rekindle some kind of feelings for her.
"That's not going to happen"
He assures her that is not going to happen, but he has had a visiting order from her.
"You're not going to see her?"
“You’re not going to see her?” Kelly demands, but he says that he has to;  he has to believe she can change and that this has been a lesson to her.
"She's a menace – and she's been locked up!"
Kelly’s evaluation is, “She’s a menace – and she’s been locked up!”
"I have no choice, Kelly"
but he still maintains that he has no choice.
"I'm going to make myself ill"
At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion tells Gethin that she needs a break or she will make herself ill, and she wants to be strong for Arwen.   “She needs a break from seeing my face all the time.”   Gethin says that she is Arwen’s mother,
"I don't want to make decisions when I'm exhausted"
but Ffion insists, “I don’t want to make important decisions when I’m exhausted.”
"Are you sure about postponing the op?"
“Are you sure about postponing the op?” he asks her, and she emphasises that she made that clear last week.
"I'll see you later, love"
Arwen comes in, Gethin kisses her and says he will see her later;
Arwen puts her coat on
Ffion helps her on with her coat.
Kelly has been crying
Anita has been to the shop for a pint of milk and finds that Kelly has been crying;  “Ed’s going to visit Sioned!” she explains,
"He's going to do what?"
and Anita is very surprised.
"Why do I always fall for the wrong men?"
“Why do I always fall for the wrong men, Auntie Anita?   Ed realised how I feel about him, and he isn’t bothered.”
"He just needs time"
Anita replies that he just needs some time, but Kelly is resigned to the fact that friends is all that they will ever be;
"We wouldn't have made a good couple, anyway"
“We wouldn’t have made a good couple, anyway.”
Anita points out that he may not be in love with Sioned any more, but it is obvious she has some kind of hold on him.
"Do you think it's a good idea?"
“Under the circumstances, do you think it’s a good idea that you’re living under the same roof?” she asks,
"I can't ask him to leave"
but Kelly cannot bring herself to ask him to leave.
Siôn comes into the café for a tea to take out, and while Gwen is preparing it,
Siôn is pleased that Ed got his justice
he tells Ed, “I was pleased to hear that you got justice in court last week.   You need to move on now.”
Then he has another go at Gethin
Then he goes to speak with Gethin, and once again harangues him about Arwen;  “I can’t stop thinking about Ffion’s decision to postpone the treatment.   She’s making a mistake, Gethin,”
"Here he goes again!"
but he does not want to talk about it.
"This is Arwen's life"
“This is Arwen’s life – you don’t agree with her, do you?”   Gethin concedes that he may possibly agree with Siôn,
"Look, I support Ffion"
but it is important that he supports Ffion, and that is not going to change.
"The tumour could affect her sight!"
Siôn is not put off, but continues, “I spoke with an old school friend last week – he’s an oncologist.   I wanted to talk to someone who deals with facts, not emotions.   If she doesn’t have the surgery early on, there is a risk that the tumour could grow – and it could affect her sight – she could go blind!”
Gethin is horrified by this
This has quite an effect on Gethin, and Siôn urges him to accompany him to talk to Ffion.
"Kelly and I had a chat about you . . ."
Anita meets Ed in the street, and tells him, “Kelly and I have had a chat about you living in number 10.
"You should consider moving out"
“We think you should consider moving out.”
"Have I said or done something?"
Ed is horrified by this, and wonders what he has said or done.   He assumes that this is what Kelly wants,
"You must see how awkward it is"
but Anita admits, “This is not her idea – I don’t want you to move out, but you must see how awkward it is, after Kelly said how she feels.   She said she is all right with it, as she is tip-toeing around your feelings.   Haven’t you ever been in love with someone, and it wasn’t reciprocated?”
"Where am I going to find somewhere?"
Ed can identify with this, but asks where he is going to find a place at such short notice.   Anita does not expect him to move out straightaway, but to start thinking about it,
"Kelly's feeling demand some respect"
as Kelly’s feelings deserve some respect too.
"I could have done without that!"
“She again points out that there is no rush.
Ffion is sitting at home when Siôn and Gethin walk in;
"Why have you brought him here?"
“Why have you brought him here?” she demands, “I’ve got nothing to say to you!”
"Circumstances have changed"
Siôn informs her that the circumstances have changed, and that Gethin agrees with him;  “We both agreed that immediate surgery is the right thing to do, and you’re in the minority.”
"She's too young to face surgery!"
Ffion is angry, and points out that she is Arwen’s mother, and Arwen is too young to face surgery;  her tumour is being controlled by steroids.
"Nothing comes without consequences"
Siôn wants to know how long she will poison Arwen’s body, as nothing comes without consequences.
Gethin suggests that Siôn should leave
Gethin moves to support Ffion, and advises Siôn to go, protesting that nothing will be solved like this, but he still insists that she will not see sense.   Ffion snarls, “If you hadn’t brought him here, we wouldn’t have a problem!”
"It's Arwen who has the problem!"
but again he says that Arwen has the problem, before finally leaving.
"Do you know of any lodgings?"
Ed arrives at the Deri, and asks Dan if he knows of any lodgings in Cwmderi.
"New girlfriend kicked you out?"
Gwyneth hears this and comments, “Your new girlfriend’s kicked you out, has she?”
"Acting like a total fool in court!"
Then Eileen comes in, and Gwyneth has a go at her as well, “You’ve got some guts showing your face, after acting like a total fool in court!”
"Even Sioned doesn't deserve a friend like you!"
Eileen replies, “Even Sioned doesn’t deserve a friend like you!”   Ed sympathises, as they gave her a rough time in court, and she asks how he is coping.
"Maybe I shall feel better after seeing Sioned"
“Maybe I shall feel better after seeing Sioned,” he replies, “I got a visiting order today.   Have you made a request for one?”
"Yes, of course I have"
Eileen lies that she has.
Kelly cooks a meal
Anita returns home to find Kelly cooking a meal;
"Getting up off my self-pitying backside!"
“This is me, getting up off my self-pitying backside, that’s what’s going on,” is Kelly’s answer, “I’m making dinner for us all.   And I’ve been thinking, it won’t be a problem having Ed living here.   We all understand the score, so it will be fine.”
"I've persuaded him to leave"
Anita hesitantly informs her, “But I’ve asked him – I’ve persuaded him to leave – I didn’t want him to hurt you any more, Kelly.”
"So you'll be hurting me instead!"
“So you’ll be hurting me instead!” responds Kelly,
"You know this is the right thing to do"
and when Anita says that she knows this is the right thing to do, she adds, “Right for who, Auntie Anita?   For Ed – for me –
"For you to have a quiet life?"
“or just for you to have a quiet life?”
When Gethin comes back to Cysgod y Glyn, Arwen is playing in her room;
"We have to talk, Ffi!"
he insists that they have to talk.
"About you knifing me in the back?"
“What about?   About you putting a knife in my back?” is Ffion’s angry retort, “You agreed with me, and now you’ve changed your mind.”
"There is the risk of blindness!"
“I just want what’s best for Arwen!” he emphasises, “Knowing what I know now, there’s no point postponing it.   You’re inviting problems – the risk of the operation is worth taking, compared to the risk of blindness.   She could lose her sight.”
"You're not her father!"
She yells that this is not his risk to take, as he is not her father,
Arwen appears in the doorway
but at that moment Arwen walks into the room,
"Mam and Geth were only playing"
and Ffion reassures her that they were only playing.
"I'm sorry – I shouldn't have said that"
When she returns to her room, Ffion regrets what she said, but he understands that everyone is stressed.
"You're more of a father to her than Macs will ever be!"
She confesses, “You’re more of a father to her than Macs will ever be!   But do you really think she could go blind?”
"An oncologist said it was a possibility"
He tells her that an oncologist said that it was a possibility.
"It's best she has the surgery now"
“I really think that it’s best she has the surgery now, rather than poisoning her little body for weeks, perhaps months,” Gethin says,
"Something may go wrong"
but Ffion is terribly worried that something may go wrong.   “These people know what they’re doing –
"Please, for Arwen's sake"
“please, for Arwen’s sake, we have to make the right decision.   It’s her future.”
"I understand you're looking for somewhere to live"
In the Deri, Siôn remarks that Dan told him earlier Ed was looking for somewhere to live;
"It's really quiet at Y Felin"
“Y Felin has been really quiet since everyone moved out – I could do with the company of someone who’s on my side.
"Are you interested?"
“Are you interested?”   Ed points out that he is not in any rush, but Siôn keeps pressing the point, wondering if he is considering some other offers, or if he does not fancy moving to Y Felin.
"Yes, OK, why not?"
Eventually, Ed agrees to his offer, and Siôn invites him to move in whenever he is ready.   As soon as Siôn leaves,
"You don't have to leave, Ed"
Kelly comes in to tell Ed that he does not have to leave.
"It's not fair if I stay"
“Yes, Anita’s right – it’s not fair if I stay,” he answers, but Kelly insists that there is no hurry, and they can see how it goes;  she is confident that she can handle it.
"I'm moving tonight to Siôn's"
He tells her, “You won’t have to – Siôn’s offered me a place – I’m moving out tonight.
Kelly is dumbfounded
“This is best for everyone – I have to go.”
Eileen has had a day off from running the shop
Dinner is almost ready when Jim comes into the shop flat;  Eileen admits that Llinos has been covering in the shop for her today.
"You did what?"
He asks what she did instead, and is rather shocked by her reply.
"I'm going to see Sioned"
“I sent a request for a visiting order to see Sioned.   I am going to see her, Jim, because I want her to understand my actions – and I want her to realise she can’t do these things to people.”
"She's made a fool of you every time!"
Jim protests she has tried this before, and Sioned has made a fool of her every time.   “The difference this time is that I don’t want to make up with her,” stresses Eileen, “Trust me, I know what I’m doing.”
Siôn does not look pleased to see his visitors
Siôn hears a knock on the door and assumes that it is Ed;  however, it is Ffion and Gethin, and Siôn tells them that he wants no more arguments.
"I've come to apologise"
“Nor do we,” Ffion begins, “I’ve come to apologise – I’ve put my own fears before Arwen’s health.   You were right from the start.
"I don't know how I'm going to handle it!"
“I want her to have the surgery as soon as possible – but I don’t know how I’m going to handle it!”
Gethin will support her . . .
Gethin and
. . . as will Siôn
Siôn assure her of their support every step of the way.
Ed must have more stuff than that!
Ed appears to have packed all his belongings into one small bag and is ready to leave number 10.
"You're the best friend I ever had"
“Thanks for everything!” he tells Kelly, “You’re the best friend I ever had.”
"Why are you leaving, then?"
She demands why he is leaving in that case.
"You deserve some distance from me and my problems"
He replies, “This is hard enough as it is – of course I will keep in touch.   I think you deserve some distance from me and my problems.”
"Just listen to me for a second . . ."
“Just listen to me for a second . . .” Kelly begins,
But then Anita spoils it
but Anita comes downstairs, and the moment is gone.
"I hope things work out for you"
Anita hopes that things work out for him,
Ed departs from number 10
he sadly picks up his bag and leaves the house.
"Yes – why wouldn't I be?"
She asks Kelly if she is all right;  “Yes – why wouldn’t I be?” Kelly replies, trying to hold back the tears,
"Just like old times – you and me"
“Just like old times – you and me.”
