Meanwhile in the Deri, Colin is remembering when he used to help his cousin shoot crows’ nests, years ago.

“See – shooting birds must be ingrained in you,” Eifion points out, but Colin considers that the birds won that day. Then he gets a phone call;

“I hope it’s important,” he says, “Are you going to tell me why? What – now? All right!” and he leaves for Llwyncelyn.

Sioned comes into the Deri and is rudely reminded by Eifion that it is the day he should receive the monthly payment for Ceir Sir Gar (Carmarthenshire Cars, the luxury car hire business – with the non-operational Bentley).

Sioned assures him that the money is on its way.

| Eileen has a terrible burden of guilt |
In the shop flat, Eileen is in a terrible state, which she tries to hide from Jim;

“Why did you change your mind and come back tonight?” she asks. he replies that she sounded so disappointed on the phone that he came straight back, and had thought she would be more pleased to see him.

He kisses her and smells that she has been drinking; she explains that she had a glass of wine with Llinos when they closed the shop.

| "Right, let's go to the Deri!" |
Jim wants to go for a meal at the Deri now that he is back, but Eileen prefers to have a quiet night in.

“I’ve got so much to tell you,” he says, as he goes to finish unpacking.

When Colin gets to Llwyncelyn, he tells Gaynor, “This had better be good – I was just enjoying a quiet pint with Eifion. Is anything wrong? Can I help?”

Gaynor mumbles, “It’s Sam!” and Colin wonders what he has been doing now.

“He’s dead! He’s upstairs!” Gaynor tells him.

In the Deri, Sioned asks Garry, “Are you interested in buying Deri Deithio and Ceir Sir Gar?”

“I don’t like dealing with amateurs!” Sioned furiously stalks off, and Garry smiles.

Colin touches his father’s hand and mutters, “You’ve really gone, haven’t you? That’s typical of you – going away without a word of warning!”

Then he checks himself and continues, “Sorry, Dad, sorry for not making more of an effort over the years – although I deserved better as well.

“I’m going to miss you terribly.”

| Eileen is not listening to what Jim says |
As Eileen toys with her food, Jim tells her, “I felt as though she was still there with me – not in a sad way – but I had fond memories.

“I felt happy – anyway, I realised it was not Porthcawl that was making me happy – I was happy in myself. If I can be happy there, I can be here, too. I must have a positive attitude – I have so much to be grateful for.”

Eileen, who has been looking increasingly uncomfortable, suddenly blurts out, “I have to go out!” and dashes off,

much to Jim’s surprise.

Colin comes back downstairs, looking devastated; he wonders if it was the diabetes that caused his father’s death,

and asks if there was anything he could have done to prevent it.

| "It was not anyone's fault, Colin" |
Gaynor assures him that it was not anyone’s fault,

and hugs him.

| "I don't remember saying I wanted company!" |
Eifion joins Sioned, who has been sitting alone in the Deri; “I don’t remember saying I wanted company!” she snarls.

Eifion remarks that he does not like her attitude;

| "There are a lot of things I don't like about you!" |
“There are a lot of things I don’t like about you!” she replies.
“You couldn’t care less that you owe me money!” Eifion complains, and again she says he will get it soon.

“This syndicate is just getting off the ground – and I need the money now!” he insists.
“Have you noticed I’ve been without a driver for a few weeks?” she demands, “The money is slow coming in!” He informs her that he does not trust her, and she moans, “I’m in mourning – I came out for a quiet drink – and I get insulted, harassed and threatened.”

Out in the back street, Eileen is about to dial 999 when she hears the sound of a siren; then she receives a text from Jim,

asking, “Where are you?”

She bursts into tears.

| Colin cannot take in what has happened |
As Colin sits in a state of stunned disbelief, Doctor Pritchard arrives;

he informs Gaynor that he is the locum replacing Dr Roberts, and that the paramedics will be arriving shortly.

Colin comments, “You’re wasting your time – he’s dead!”

The doctor replies that he has been trained for emergencies such as this, and goes upstairs with Gaynor.

A few minutes later, the ambulance crew arrive and Colin directs them to the second bedroom on the left.

Sioned is surprised to see her mother in the Deri, as Jim has returned,

and is told that he is unpacking.

| "You're acting a bit weird" |
“Is there anything else on your mind? You’re acting a bit weird,” remarks Sioned,

| "I think I'd better go home" |
and Eileen thinks that she ought to go home.

| "Did you borrow the money from her?" |
As soon as she has gone, Eifion comes over again, asking, “Well, did you borrow the money from her?

“Why aren’t you getting my money?” She exclaims that she is not scared of him, and advises him to stop whingeing like a schoolgirl.

Hearing Eifion’s raised voice, Landlord Garry comes over to ask if there is a problem, and after Eifion has accused Sioned of being the problem,

instructs him, “You’ve had too much drink – go home! I’m not asking!”
Eifion growls that he will be talking to Sioned again and leaves.

Then Garry tells her that he wants a word; “Upstairs, in five minutes!”

| "Should I offer them a cup of tea?" |
Gaynor muses whether to offer the medical practitioners a cup of tea, but Colin just wants them to finsh and go,

querying why they are taking so long.

| "Your father has been dead a few hours" |
Dr Pritchard comes down and confirms that the body temperature shows that Sam has been dead for a few hours.

“And it took you this long to figure that out? Geniuses!” snaps Colin, “I don’t want strangers dealing with my father – we want to be left in peace. How did he die?”

| "It appears to have been a heart attack" |
“It appears to have been a heart attack,” answers the doctor, “But we shall need a post mortem. The diabetes would increase the risk of an attack, so would be partially responsible. I shall be making a full report, and if you need to ask anything, please contact the surgery at any time.”

Sioned arrives in the Deri flat just as Garry is pouring drinks for them.
“I sympathise with your situation,” he says,

Sioned silently drinks, then announces her decision; “Stuff your offer! Thanks for the drink.”
