19 April 2017

Ready for the half-price Easter eggs
As Eileen puts a half-price label on a basket in the store-room,
A photo taken a good few years ago
Jim shows her a photo he has found;  “I thought it would be suitable for your locket – it’s clearer than the one in there now.   I’’ll cut it down to size.”   Then he realises that she is not wearing the locket;
"Actually, I lost it, Jim"
she tells him that she lost it, and has looked everywhere, but did not want to upset him.   She takes the basket into the shop.
Colin needs all the money he can get
Colin has just arrived as he wants to work this afternoon;  “I need the money – the funeral is tomorrow,” he says, “Burying someone burns quite a hole in your pocket!”   Eileen agrees that it helps to keep busy,
"I think it happened when I was out jogging"
and Jim suggests that Colin could help to look for the locket.
“No, I didn’t lose it here – I think it happened when I was out jogging,” she replies, and Jim observes that whoever finds it will know whose it is, by the photo inside.
Eifion is becoming rather insistent
Sioned receives a text from Eifion, impatiently demanding, “Money, Today!”   She comments to Gaynor that Sam’s funeral is a long way away, in Lampeter,
"If you need any transport to Lampeter"
and asks if they need any transport there.
"No, we'll go in our own cars"
Gaynor answers that they will be going in their own cars.
"The Bentley has no MOT!"
Garry comes across the road and remarks to Sioned, “I hope you weren’t offering her the Bentley – you still haven’t brought it over for MOT!   But there’s no point in spending money if you’re still losing customers.”
"Sounds like a takeover bid"
She says it sounds as if he is preparing a takeover bid.
“£20,000 for both companies,” he tells her, and Sioned insists they are worth £30,000.   He explains,
"Now they're a toxic brand!"
“They were at one time, but now they’re a toxic brand – there’s no guarantee I can win back the customers who turned their backs on you.”
Garry laughs at Sioned
When she insists that it is 28 or nothing, he walks away, laughing.
"Why hasn't the woman come to see me?"
Colin confides to Eileen, “I still cannot understand why the woman who was with Dad on the day he died has not come to see me.   Did he come here to the shop, Eileen?”
"I can't remember everyone who comes and goes"
She maintains that she cannot remember who comes and goes every day, and advises Colin that tomorrow is what matters now.
"I'm dreading it, Eileen"
He admits he is dreading it, and tells Eileen that Gaynor is not coping well, either;  “She doesn’t feel comfortable upstairs in Llwyncelyn now, because Dad died in the bedroom.”
The chocolate eggs are now pre-cracked
Then he drops the basket of half-price Easter eggs, and Eileen assures him that it does not matter.   “I’m useless!” he moans.
Dani cannot believe Jason did that
In the Deri, Dani cannot believe that Jason stole from his own family, but Gaynor believes that there is no smoke without fire.
"You refused Sioned's offer"
Garry comes in and conducts some market research;  “I couldn’t help overhearing you refuse Sioned’s offer.”
"Not after what she did to poor Ed!"
Gaynor’s response is that she would not go anywhere near Sioned after what she did to poor Ed.
“Garry asks, “What if someone else took over Deri Deithio?”   Gaynor confirms that would be fine, as Sioned is the problem.
"No-one told me Gwern was going out"
Then he complains to Dani that no-one told him Gwern was going out with Britt and the children.
"You weren't here, Garry!"
Dani grumbles that Garry was not there and she had no time to look after Gwern.
"Do you want a lift?"
Garry goes out and sees Sioned getting into her car, so gets into the passenger seat.
Garry makes his final offer . . .
“Listen carefully, because I’m not going to make another offer,” he says, “£25,000 – you won’t get a better offer from anyone.   That would sort out your debts, just like that – it’s my final offer!”
. . . which Sioned accepts
With a smile, Sioned replies, “I knew I could get another £5,000 out of you.”   As they shake hands on the deal, she directs his hand to her lap.   “Do you want to go for a drink – to celebrate?” she asks,
"Bring over the paperwork"
but he wants her to bring over the paperwork, so they can sort things out.
Eileen and Jim visit Llwyncelyn
Eileen and Jim visit Llwyncelyn, taking a cake for tomorrow;  Eileen raises the problem Gaynor has with going into the bedroom, and suggests that it could be redecorated;
Eileen comes out with another of her old wives' fables
“Years ago, when someone died, they used to open the windows to release the soul – it would be like a breath of fresh air for you.”
"Right, Jim, upstairs"
Gaynor’s phone rings, and Eileen uses the opportunity to go upstairs to the bedroom.
Eileen continues her search
Jim evaluates the condition of the room;  “It doesn’t need repapering – a coat of paint would probably do.”  Meanwhile, Eileen is looking in some of the places she did not search before.
"I don't think this is a good idea"
Gaynor comes up and doubts if this is a good idea, in spite of Eileen’s insistence that it would not take long, and that Jim would not charge anything.   They go back downstairs for a cup of tea,
Eileen manages to do a little more checking . . .
with Eileen checking a couple more places
. . . before leaving the room
before she leaves the room.
"I'm the luckiest man in the world!"
Garry enters the Deri and exclaims, “Have I told you that I’m the luckiest man in the world?   You look gorgeous!   I’ve bought Deri Deithio and Ceir Sir Gar – it was a bargain – you’re not allowed to ask how much a present costs.”
"You want me to run two other companies as well?"
Unimpressed, Dani summarises, “So, as well as this place and the salon, you want me to run two other companies?”   Garry replies that that he will sell Ceir Sir Gar and that they run the Deri together.   “Do we?” she demands, “You don’t do much round here!”
"It makes sense to put them in your name"
Garry points out that it makes sense to put the companies in Dani’s name;
"Oh, I see – I'm a tax dodge!"
“Oh, I see – I’m a tax dodge – it’s nice to know I’m a financial asset to you!”
"I think it's just to keep Jim busy"
Colin goes to Gaynor’s and is told that Eileen volunteered Jim to redecorate the bedroom, but suspects that it is just to try and keep Jim busy.
"No-one wears black at the funeral"
Colin has been doing a lot of thinking about tomorrow, and remembers that his father said he did not want anyone wearing black at his funeral, or any long faces.
"And the song 'We are sailing'"
He wanted the song ‘We are sailing’ to be played.
"The coffin should leave from Llwyncelyn"
His next request stuns Gaynor;  “I’d like the funeral to start here – the coffin should leave from Llwyncelyn – it feels right for his last journey.”
This is too much for Gaynor
“What?   You want him back here in a coffin?” shouts Gaynor, “No, Colin!   Having Meilyr’s coffin here was bad enough!”
"Sorry, Gaynor – forget all about it!"
Colin apologises and rushes off, telling her to forget all about it.
"I thought you'd be pleased"
In the Deri flat, Garry does not know what is wrong with Dani;  “I thought you’d be pleased,” he says,
"It would be nice to be consulted!"
but she points out it would have been nice to be consulted.
"Mathew's left this place in a mess"
Then he complains about the mess Mathew has left around the place, and Dani squeals,
"Well, you wanted him to move in!"
“Well, you wanted him to move in!”   Garry admits that things have not been very good between them lately, stressing that what matters now is their future.
"Our children, when they arrive"
“You and me – and our children, when they arrive,” he says, “It’s been a while since we talked about them, but circumstances have changed since then.   I’m not getting any younger, and I don’t want to look like a grandpa when I take the children to school.”
Dani still does not want children
Dani stares at him and says that things have not changed, and she is still not ready.
A message, designed to get Garry's attention
Then he has a text from Sioned with the single word ‘Problem’.
"You don't want Deri Deithio, Ceir Sir Gar – or my children!"
“Let’s get this straight,” he says, “You don’t want Deri Deithio, you don’t want Ceir Sir Gar – or my children!”
Dani looks confused
He walks out.
"Dying is an expensive business"
Gaynor goes to see Colin, who is confused by all the paperwork;  “Dying is an expensive business,” he grumbles,
"£500, just to take him to Lampeter!"
“The undertaker wants £500 just to take him to Lampeter!”
"Get your money's worth – start from Llwyncelyn!"
She advises that he must get his money’s worth then, and start that last journey from Llwyncelyn.   Now she says that it feels right, and offers to assist Colin with all the documentation.
"You have to pay me this week!"
Garry asks Sioned what this problem is, and she replies that Eifion is hassling her for his money;  “You have to pay me this week, or he won’t leave me alone!”
"I need to see the books first"
Garry is adamant that he needs to see the books first,
"No wine for me, thanks"
and at first refuses a glass of champagne.   “Surely you won’t refuse this,” she says,
"Martin, the sugar daddy"
advising that the bottle is from Martin, the sugar daddy.
"As one door closes, another opens"
As Garry opens the bottle, she muses that it feels strange, losing the businesses, but considers, “As one door closes, another opens.”
"New Opportunities!"
She proposes a toast to ‘New Opportunities’.
The next stage in Sioned's seduction plan
Before Garry can take a sip, she kisses him, but he stops her;
"Never mix business with pleasure"
“One of my rules – never mix business with pleasure!” he tells her.
"It's more fun breaking the rules!"
Sioned replies that it is more fun breaking the rules.
He takes the paperwork and leaves
“I’d better go,” Garry insists, without touching his champagne, and takes the two box files with him.
"I won't be coming to the funeral"
Gaynor and Colin have adjourned to the Deri, where Eileen advises that she will not be attending the funeral, as it is a time for family,
"You must come, Eileen!"
but Colin is very keen that she should be there, as his father thought the world of her.
"She's just gone upstairs"
Garry comes in, and is told by John Post that Dani has just gone upstairs.
"It brings back memories of Courtney's death"
Jim tells Eileen at the bar that he knows how she is feeling, as it brings back memories of Courtney’s death.   He has been looking online for a replacement locket,
"I want you to choose the locket"
but there are so many, he wants Eileen to choose which she would like.
"I've been working at the garage"
Garry tells Dani that he has been working at the garage;
Dani has had a complete change of mind
Dani has now changed her mind and insists she does want to run Deri Deithio, hoping that she can make a success of it.
"I can find a buyer for Ceir Sir Gar"
He is confident about finding a buyer for Ceir Sir Gar.
Is this a spelling mistake I see before me?
Harmony appears to have been regained as Dani snuggles in his arms;  “I don’t deserve you,” she murmurs.
After one glass . . .
Meanwhile, Sioned has finished her glass of champagne,
. . . Sioned is about to pour another
and as she is about to pour another, instead decides to take a sip from Garry’s glass.
A flash of uncontrollable temper
Then, in a sudden paroxysm of rage, she flings the glass across the room, where it smashes against the wall.
