5 April 2017

There are some more cars coming
At the Deri, Garry confides to Mathew that he is meeting someone in Swansea tonight and hopes to have two ‘top of the range’ cars from the continent by the weekend.   As he will be taking the cars to the auction, he needs Mathew to do an extra shift on Saturday to give Dani a break;  Mathew readily agrees.
"I hope you're not getting him involved with anything dodgy"
Dani sees them talking and demands, “You’re not getting him to do anything dodgy, are you?”   Garry denies any such thing and leaves.
"How about some beer sampling?"
Mathew invites Dani to his home brew sampling tonight,
The reply is in the negative
but she refuses.
Eifion has big plans with pheasants
Eifion is planning to keep pheasants at Penrhewl;  “The middle field would be ideal for keeping about 300,” he estimates.   Cadno is going to pick him up later from the pheasant breeder’s and they will go for a meal at the Plough, while Mathew is babysitting.
Hannah waits for Chester
Hannah waits in the alley for Chester;  when he arrives, he enquires about Dai and Diane.
"Diane wants to send me back!"
“Diane’s talking again about sending me back to Australia,” she tells him,
"I can't stop thinking about you!"
and he is gutted, assuring her that he cannot stop thinking about her.   “I’d better go,” she says, “Diane is at APD, and she mustn’t see us together!”
Hannah walks away
Still blaming Chester for the situation, she leaves.
Cadno extols the pheasant project . . .
In the Deri, Cadno is speaking enthusiastically about the pheasant project,
. . . but faces some opposition
but Kelly remarks, “Cwmderi will be like a war zone, with all the shooting!   The idea of shooting animals like that is revolting!”   Cadno maintains that they will be killed to be eaten, and that they will have had a good life.
"I don't like shooting animals for sport"
Gethin sides with Kelly;  “I don’t like shooting animals for sport.”   Cadno then comes up with the argument that when they have pheasants, other birds will increase too, so it helps the variety of wild birds.
"But it's helping the environment at the same time"
Mathew describes it as shooting and helping the environment at the same time.
Cadno wishes she had not mentioned it
Kelly comments that the same could be said about fox hunting, and by now Cadno regrets bringing up the subject in the first place, and moves from the bar.
Gethin tells her, “If you wanted a quiet coffee, you shouldn’t have broached the subject.”
"You can swot up on your birds"
Britt has called at Maenan and bought a book on birds for Chester;  she asks him, “In case Jason asks you, do you know the difference between,” – she looks at random in the book – “A bullfinch and a chaffinch?”
"I want to keep Jason on side"
Chester does not know, but wants to keep Jason on side, as he suspects Diane does not want him there.
Motherly chat coming up
“I want a chat with you,” Britt announces, “You and Hannah are quite serious, aren’t you?   You really like her – I can tell!”
"It's all right – we did that at school"
Chester knows what is coming and assures her that they have learned all about this at school, and he does not want to talk about it.
"Have you slept together?"
Britt is undeterred and continues, “We’re talking as adults here – so have you slept together?”   Chester repeats that he does not want her advice, but to no avail.   “Do you carry any contraceptives?
"There's no rush to use them!"
Well, I went to the chemist – I thought I’d save you the embarrassment.   Have them on me – but remember, there’s no rush to use them!   When the time comes, I’d rather know that you’re ready.”
Chester is glad that is over
Chester finds this conversation excruciatingly embarrassing.
The debate on shooting things continues
Gethin voices his opinion that shooting foxes as vermin is acceptable, but hunting in red coats and all that is not.   Kelly insists, “Shooting pheasants is definitely wrong!   People paying to kill loads of innocent birds, just for a good day out!
"Come to my home brew tasting"
Mathew mentions his home brew tasting, for which he needs guineapigs, tonight at Penrhewl, and Gethin agrees he will come.
"As long as you're not shooting the guineapigs!"
Kelly remarks, “Yes, all right, as long as you’re not shooting the guineapigs as well!”
"I'll come – I like parties!"
Hannah, sitting nearby, thinks she will also join them, although she does not like alcohol, but does like parties.
Mathew considers that she could help with the babysitting.   Kelly tells her to bring Chester;  “The more the merrier!”
"I'm having a night in with Garry"
Dani once more turns down the invitation, as she is having a night in with Garry.
"I thought Garry was . . ."
“I thought Garry was . . .” begins Mathew, before thinking better of it;
"Garry was – what, Mathew?"
Dani accuses him of knowing more about Garry’s plans than she does, and goes upstairs to confront him.
Garry is agreeing one of his dodgy deals
Garry is on the phone, arranging that his contact in Swansea will ring him.   Dani is adamant she wants to know what is going on,
"It's totally risk-free!"
so he explains, “Two cars are going to pass through – it’s £2,000 in cash, with no risk!   All I have to do is change the plates and log books – I’m not doing anything risky.”
Dani still does not like it
Dani does not like this arrangement at all and reminds him, “I warned you not to drag Mathew into this – I’m worried about us!   We’re living worlds apart all the time!”
"Look, you're the most important thing in my life!"
Garry assures her that she is the most important thing in his life, so she replies, “OK, then – so it won’t be a problem for you to stay in tonight – instead of disappearing on one of your assignments?”   Garry has to accede to her demand.
Mathew explains the alcohol content
Mathew explains the strengths of his two beers, while Hannah and Chester sit on the sofa;
"We could find somewhere quieter"
“I can think of better things to do than taste home brew,” says Chester, “You know – we could find somewhere quieter.”
"You've changed your tune!"
Hannah is astonished that he has changed his mind so suddenly.   “I want to show you how much I like you – I’m ready!” he assures her.
They make their furtive exit . . .
They creep surreptitiously from the room, while the various merits of the beers – and elderflower wine are discussed,
. . . while the drinkers are trying the elderflower wine
Kelly remarking, “It’s like pop with a kick in it!
"When are the killing fields open?"
Then she changes the subject;  “When are the killing fields open?”
"Plenty of time for you to organise your protest"
Mathew explains that the pheasant shooting season is from October to February, so she has plenty of time to organise her protest.
Kelly poiunts out the irony of the situation
She finds it very ironic that Jason is handing out leaflets, encouraging people to attract birds to their gardens, while Penrhewl makes a profit from the mass slaughter of birds.   Gethin says that Chester has been helping with the Springwatch,
"Oh, they've gone!"
so they turn round to find that he and Hannah have disappeared.
They find a bedroom . . .
Upstairs, the pair creep into a bedroom;
. . . and waste no time
“The room isn’t important – it’s you and me that matter!” Hannah purrs, and they begin to undress.
"The rice will be done soon"
Dani has almost finished making the meal;  “The rice has to finish cooking and then it will be ready,” she says, just as Garry receives a text.
"Listen, Dan, don't get annoyed, but . . ."
He apologetically announces, “Listen, Dan, don’t get annoyed, but I have to go to Swansea!”
However, she does get very annoyed
She is, quite understandably, furious, but he points out that it is £2,000 cash, and this money is not for him –
"It's for us and our future"
it is for them both, and their future.   He assures her he will be back as soon as he can.   Dani cannot believe he is doing this to her – again.
The young lovers hastily get dressed . . .
As they get dressed, Chester exclaims, “I can’t believe we just did that!   You’re a bad influence on me!”   He assures Hannah that he does not regret it.
. . . and kiss again, when . . .
As they kiss, Cadno suddenly appears in the doorway;  “What do you think you’re doing?   This is my bedroom!”
"I think it's pretty obvious what they're doing!"
She calls for Eifion, who in turn summons Mathew.
"And letting these two use our bed!"
“You’re meant to be babysitting, not having a party – and letting these two use our bed!” Mathew is told in no uncertain terms, “If you can’t respect our home, you can’t stay here.
Mathew is summarily evicted from Penrhewl
You’re out, good boy!”
Garry's dinner goes in the bin . . .
Dani deposits Garry’s dinner in the bin, then picks up her phone,
. . . and Dani turns on the television
but, on reflection, decides to turn the television on instead.
"Don't tell Diane that we saw each other!"
When Chester arrives home, he is quizzed by Britt, “Did you have a nice time with Hannah?   Where did you go?”
Chester asks his mother for a favour;  “Don’t tell Diane that we saw each other tonight!”
"Did you . . . um?"
Britt is infuriatingly curious;  “Did you . . . um?”
"You can't ask me that, Mam!"
Chester tells her that she cannot ask that, and she assumes, “So you did, then!”   Embarrassed, he retires to his room.
"I thought you were babysitting"
When Garry returns from Swansea, he finds Mathew sitting in the Deri, looking dejected, and is told that he has been kicked out of Penrhewl for arguing with Cadno.
"I don't have anywhere else to go"
“I don’t have anywhere else to go,” he whines.
“And you want a bed here,” concludes Garry, “All right, you can have the spare room,
"I have to check first that I can stay here!"
but first I need to check that I can stay here!”
Garry cautiously returns
When he enters the flat upstairs, Dani turns off the television and rants, “You’ve been away two and a half hours!
"Sure you only went to Swansea?"
Are you sure you only went to Swansea – not Poland or Hungary to get your blinking cars?”
He protests that he came back as soon as he could, but she goes on,
"Your dinner's in the bin!"
“Your dinner’s in the bin!   I made us a nice dinner – and it was a waste of time!”
"Is this a bad time?"
Mathew comes in, asking if this is a bad time;  “No – perfect timing!” snaps Dani.   Garry announces that Mathew is staying tonight, and he goes to the spare room.
"Now you're letting him move in!"
“I told you not to drag him into your plans!” she shouts, “And now you’re letting him move in!   He’ll be here all the time – all night and all day!
"I don't mean anything to you at all!"
“You’re doing it again – doing things without asking me!   I don’t mean anything to you at all!
"I'm fed up with you, him and everything!"
I’m fed up with it – fed up with you, him and everything!”
