31 March 2017

The cause of the altercation
In the chippy flat, Hannah and Chester are arguing over a cake;
"No – I'm starving, Chester!"
she insists that she is hungry,
And then – in flagranté, as it were . . .
so he lunges forward to try and grab it.   At this moment his mother returns to the flat.   Embarrassed, Chester asks, “What are you doing home?”
". . . aren't you going to introduce me?"
but Britt is more interested in being introduced to his friend,
Hannah tries to look demure
so he does so.
"I can't contact Kath"
In the café, Diane moans to Mark that she has not been able to contact Kath,
"She's gone to London with Stacey"
and he advises that she had gone to stay with Stacey in London, adding that it was a sudden decision.
Debbie is back from holiday
Debbie arrives back from her holiday, carrying a toy rabbit for Nicky;  “Sun, sand and sangria do you a world of good, but it’s nice to come home for a rest!” she says,
"There's more to life than that, Debbie"
but straight-faced Megan, who is sitting there, tells her there is more to life than sun, sand and sangria.
"A lot has happened while you were away"
Debbie wonders why Mark looks depressed;  he tells her that a lot happened while she was away, so they retire to the kitchen to chat.
Sioned comes downstairs . . .
Meanwhile Sioned comes downstairs, and,
. . . is watched by Gwen and Mal . . .
watched critically by Gwen and Mal,
. . . and leaves the café
goes out of the café.
As she walks along the street, she bumps into Ffion, who is carrying a bundle of files.   Ffion drops them
"I don't want help from someone like you!"
and refuses Sioned’s help to pick them up;  “I don’t want any help from someone like you!” she snaps.
"Some people are not willing to forgive"
Sioned remarks to Megan that some people are so two-faced, and not willing to forgive.
"You have to repent first"
Megan’s reply is, “What you don’t understand is that you have to repent before being forgiven.   You shouldn’t even be showing your face in this village, after what you’ve done!”
Jim keeps an eye on Sioned
Across the road, Jim is watching this confrontation.
Hannah is eager to leave
Hannah is in a hurry to leave, even though Britt wants her to stay.
"Look at you – you've found a girlfriend!"
After she goes, Britt tells Chester, “Look at you – you’ve found a girlfriend!   She’s lovely too, from Australia – how exotic!   What’s someone from Sydney doing in Cwmderi?”   Chester answers that she is staying with her gran, Diane.
"She's Steffan Humphries' daughter!"
Then the penny drops;  “She’s Steffan Humphries’s daughter!   You do know he killed your father?”   Chester confirms that they have discussed that, and although the situation is unusual, she does not remember her father, and he does not remember much about his.
"It's not an issue – please don't turn it into one!"
“It’s not an isse – please don’t turn it into one!” he pleads, “Hannah’s really cool, and I really like her.”
Colin is glad to have Britt back
Then Colin comes bounding in to welcome Britt home;  she tells him that Neil has recovered well, and she wanted to surprise Colin.
"Do you think it's a good idea?"
Chester leaves them together, and the first thing Britt asks Colin is, “Do you think it’s a good idea for him and Hannah Francis to be going out together?”   Colin points out that he has never seen Chester so happy
"You should have told me!"
After Debbie has been appraised of all that has happened while she was away, she demands why she was not told.   “You were on holiday, enjoying yourself,” Mark says, but she accuses him of keeping things from her, and wonders if their relationship is all right.
"I could do with a bit of support!"
“I’ve got other problems, and I could do with a bit of support!” moans Mark, and leaves.
"Sioned's being treated badly"
While Jim prepares the vegetables, he informs Eileen of the hostile reception Sioned is receiving;
"You can't blame people!"
“You can’t blame people, after what’s happened!” she replies, “You’re not feeling sorry for her, are you – after everything she’s done?
Non arrives at Maes-y-Deri
Non arrives at Maes-y-Deri, with chocolates for Mark, flowers for Stacey, and an afternoon tea voucher for the Glyndwr.
"Stacey and Kath have gone"
She is devastated to hear that Stacey has gone back to London and taken Kath with her.
"Has she changed her mind about me?"
Non suspects that Stacey has changed her mind about getting to know her, but Mark tries to deny this.
"Neil's much better now"
As Britt gets her cases out of the car, Diane passes
"What about the lovebirds, then?"
and Britt asks, “What about the lovebirds, then – Hannah and Chester?   You did know they were going out together?”
"Hannah is a good girl!"
Diane’s face betrays her anger, and she insists that Hannah is a good girl;  Britt replies that Chester is a good boy, now that he has changed.   “If he’s changed, why were the police chasing him a few weeks ago?” demands Diane,
"You obviously haven't heard about the drugs at school"
“You obviously haven’t heard about the drugs at school – with Chester right in the middle of it.   I don’t want him anywhere near Hannah –
"He'll be back in jail before he turns round"
he’ll be back in jail before he turns round!” and she stomps off.
"Sioned looked very fragile to me"
Jim continues to work on Eileen, “Sioned looked very fragile to me – she’s still grieving, because I think she did love Ed, and losing him is a great shock, never mind the guilt.
"We should check up on her"
I think we should check up on her.”
"I don't want to see her!"
Eileen is adamant that she does not want to see Sioned, but Jim reminds her, “You’re still her Mam, and she’s been all on her own for a few days.”
"Why don't we go for afternoon tea?"
Non suggests that she and Mark should go for afternoon tea, but he is not keen;  “Stacey may not be here, but you can get to know your other sister,” she says.
"But you're not really my sister"
He replies that she is not really his sister, but then immediately apologises for this outburst.
"I really wanted to do something nice"
“If you don’t want to get to know me, just say, and I’ll go!” Non tells him, “I really wanted to do something nice – and you throw it back in my face – and Stacey hasn’t even turned up!
"I've been desperate to be accepted by you"
You know how much today meant to me – I’ve been desperate to be accepted by you!   I’m just a nuisance – forget it –
"I can't take any more hurt!"
I can’t take any more hurt!”   She dashes from the house.
Eileen arrives at Sioned's flat
Sioned is surprised when her mother arrives in the doorway of the flat, although insisting that she will not be staying.
"We can sit down for ten minutes"
Jim says they can at least sit down for ten minutes.
"He was wrongly accused!"
In the shop, Colin tells Britt that Chester had been wrongly accused, and that is why she was not told.
"They all knew – and I didn't?"
She is angry that Garry knew – and Dani and Catrin.
"It was all under control"
Colin explains, “Everything was under control – he was suspended from school for a while – a girl collapsed at school and Ricky almost died – but it was not Chester’s fault!”
"Chill, Mam!"
Chester comes in and urges his mother, “Chill, Mam!”
"Please don't hate me, Mam!"
Sioned wails that everyone hates her;  “Please don’t hate me!   Be angry with me, but don’t hate me!   Forgive me, Mam, please!”
"You've gone too far this time!"
Eileen cannot, as she has gone too far this time.
“Those tears aren’t going to help this time – I’ve seen them before!” Eileen snarls at her,
"I feel I should be here"
“Just so you know, the only reason I’m here is I feel I should be here, because I’m your Mam.
Sioned listens to her mother
It’s not my forgiveness that’s important, but Ed’s.   If you had that, you might feel better.   You can try to make up for what you did – that’s up to you, but if you don’t, you’re going to be sitting here, feeling sorry for yourself for ever!
"This is your mess!"
You always want help when things go wrong, but this is your mess, and it’s about time that you sorted yourself out – or you’re going to be a very lonely woman.   Come on, Jim – we’re going!”
"Promise you didn't touch any drugs!"
Britt demands, “Do you promise me you never touched any drugs?” and Chester answers that they are only for losers.
"Tom's supplier has been arrested"
Ffion passes and informs them that Ryan Donald from Llanelli was arrested last night for supplying the drugs to Tom.
"He can forget A-levels"
“He’s bound to go to prison, so he can forget A-levels,” she comments.   Britt admits she cannot believe what has been going on while she was away.
Hannah is interrogated
At Bryntirion, Diane confronts Hannah;  “When were you going to tell me about Chester Monk?   How long have you been seeing him?
"Dou you really think it's a good idea?"
Do you really think it’s a good idea, considering his background?   This is too complicated!”
"We're cool about it"
Hannah replies that she and Chester are cool about it,
"Well, I'm not!"
but Diane is most definitely not.
"You're not going out with him!"
“Well, you’re not going out with him!” shouts Hannah.
Diane relates his track record
Diane emphasises that he is bad news, having shot his mother and burned down the chapel – and now is mixed up with drugs.    “I’m not stupid enough to take drugs!” Hannah insists, but Diane considers him a bad influence.
"You're finishing with him today!"
“You’re finishing with him today!” barks Diane, “Or you’re catching the next flight back to Sydney.
"She won't want to know me now"
At Maes-y-Deri , Mark tells Debbie that Non has got it into her head that he and Stacey are not interested in her;  “She won’t want to know me now,” he says,
"Go on, ring her!"
but Debbie encourages him to ring her, as he has nothing to lose.   He dials the number, but repeats to Debbie the message he hears;
"This number is no longer recognised"
“This number is no longer recognised,” and it is the only contact number he has.   “Why has it been disconnected?   It doesn’t make sense!” he muses,
"Non, Mam and Stacey have all gone in two days!"
“Non, Mam and Stacey have all gone in two days!”

Sioned visits the scene of the tragedy . . .
A taxi is parked on the same clifftop where Ed disappeared;
. . . walks towards the cliff edge . . .
Sioned alights and walks towards the edge, carrying a single white rose,
. . . and places the rose on the grass
which she lays on the grass.
"Sorry, Ed – I'm sorry!"
In tears, she murmurs, “Sorry, Ed – I’m sorry!”
