Stacey intends to nip this in the bud
Much to Mark’s surprise, Stacey arrives at Maes-y-Deri, with the express intention of persuading him to cancel his plan to meet Non.
"Is it about that cross Dyff gave you?"
Kath comes downstairs and demands, “What are you doing home?   If it’s about the cross that Dyff gave you – I know I shouldn’t have borrowed it –
"I'm better now, aren't I, Mark?"
“well I wouldn’t have if I had been all right, but I’m better now, aren’t I, Mark?   I’ll buy you another one.”
"Don't hold a grudge against her"
Mark pleads with Stacey not to hold a grudge against their mother.
As Mathew walks along the street, looking depressed,
"Why did you finish with Vicky?"
Dani calls to him from the door of the salon, asking why he has finished with Vicky;  he replies that it was the right thing to do.   “It doesn’t mean that anything will happen between us,” she insists, “You know that, don’t you?
Mathew is told to get out of town
“I want you to leave Cwmderi before things get really awkward!”
"Let's all have lunch at the café"
Kath proposes that they go to have lunch at the café, and Stacey hopes that she is not going in her pyjamas. Kath answers, “What do you think I am – a chav?”
"I'm still going to meet Non!"
Mark is adamant that he will not cancel his meeting with Non, despite Stacey’s insistence than their mother must not find out, and they could be seen by someone who might tell Kath.   “She’s not the only one who has been finding things difficult,” Mark says, “What about Non?   She’s not much older than our Ricky,”
"She's not our problem!"
but Stacey maintains that Non is not their problem.
“You’re her half-sister, and laying flowers on our father’s grave is the only thing I can do for her,” Mark points out,
"I'm doing it, whether you like it or not!"
“I realise that Mam comes first – but I’m doing it, whether you like it or not!”
"I'm coming to make sure she doesn't persuade you"
Stacey decides she will go with him, “To make damn sure Non doesn’t persuade you to meet her again!”
"I had timke to think at Bryntirion"
Sara is worried because Jason has been out all night;  he comes back in with the news that he has been at Bryntirion, and has had time to think.   “We can’t carry on like this – if you can’t control your jealousy, we’re better off apart!”
His obstinacy worries Sara
He stomps off upstairs, leaving Sara stunned.
"I'm not interested in meeting her!"
At the cemetery, Stacey denies that she is at all interested in meeting Non;
Non awaits Mark's arrival
Mark goes across to where she is waiting.   Non admits she did not think he was coming,
"This is Stacey, your half-sister"
but he introduces her, “This is Stacey, your half-sister.”
"I'm so grateful you came"
Non is very grateful that they have come, but Stacey just wants to get it over with, so she can go home.
"I thought he was different to all the other losers"
Vicky is lamenting at the salon, “I thought he was different to the other losers I’ve been out with – but I was wrong!”
"That doesn't sound like Mathew"
Dani says that it does not sound like Mathew, doing something like that, and does not like to see Vicky upset.
"I've got a surprise for you later"
Then Garry pops in to tell Dani that he will have a surprise for her later;
"Mathew's finished with me!"
Vicky informs him that Mathew has finished with her, for some unknown reason.
The grave of Dyff Jones
At Dyff’s grave, Non places the lilies, and by this time Stacey is in tears;
"It's never easy, coming up here"
“It’s never easy, coming up here,” comments Mark, “It reminds you of what you lost.”
"What's going on here?"
Predictably, Kath arrives, demanding, “What’s going on here?   I thought we were supposed to be going out for lunch.”   She looks, puzzled, at Non and demands, “Why are you laying lilies for Dyff?
"You're far too young to have known him"
“You didn’t know him – you’re far too young.   Will someone tell me what’s going on, please?”
"She's Dad's daughter"
Mark blurts out, “She’s Dad’s daughter – sorry Mam, there’s no easy way to tell you – we’ve only just found out.”   Stacey adds that they did not want her to find out like this;  Kath turns and leaves.
Mark is about to go after them
After looking at Non, Mark follows his mother and Stacey.
"I knew that Dyff had another daughter"
Back home at Maes-y-Deri, Kath reveals, “I knew that Dyff had another daughter, with that Welsh teacher Meredid Llywelyn.
"After Sharon and Jean McGurk"
“How could I tell you that your Dad was having another affair – after Sharon and Jean McGurk?   You worshipped him, Mark.
"I caught him at the Milk Bar in Llanelli"
“I had a feeling things were not right, so I followed him one night, and caught him with her, in the Milk Bar at Llanelli.   It was raining – I remember that – and there they were, kissing in the doorway.
Mark is amazed by this tale
“Then I came home – you were having Indian that night – I sat down and shared it with you.
"Then I think it fizzled out"
“To make it worse, she was pregnant;  I think it fizzled out before the little one arrived – he stopped disappearing – he’d stay in every night.”
"And you forgave him?"
Stacey is amazed that her mother had forgiven him,
"No – I was scared I'd make matters worse"
but she answers, “I never forgave him, but I was scared if I said anything, I’d make matters worse.   You were doing A-levels and Mark was starting a new job – I didn’t want to ruin things.”
Stacey understands why Kath did not tell them;  “I knew too,” she admits
"After the way you've behaved!"
Sara tells Jason it is hard not to be jealous after the way he has behaved;
"You can't punish me for ever"
he stresses, “I’ve apologised for that – you can’t punish me for ever.   I’ve promised you that I won’t look at anyone else – and you promised that you were going to trust me!”
"Promising and succeeding are different"
Sara argues that promising and succeeding are two different things.
". . . or every ugly woman, for that matter"
He exclaims, “You can’t expect me to stay away from every attractive young woman – or every ugly woman, come to that!   It’s unreasonable, and if you can’t deal with that and stop all these stupid rules, it’s over for us!   Sorry!”   She in turn begins to apologise for what she said about Nicky,
She suddenly suffers excruiciating pain
but suddenly is doubled up with pain.
"I went to see Meredid and asked her"
Stacey explains that Mark once said he had seen Dad’s teacher crying at his grave;  “I thought it was a bit odd, so I went to see Meredid and asked her if she was having an affair with Dad.
"I wasn't going to tell you he was cheating again
“Of course she denied it, but I knew she was lying.   Then when I heard a baby crying, I had a feeling it was Dad’s.   We had just lost him – I wasn’t going to tell you he was cheating.   I couldn’t face the fact that he had done it to us – again!”
Garry proposes to take Dani here
Garry announces to Dani that they are going on a short break to a five-star hotel in Cornwall,
"As soon as Gwern gets back from school"
leaving as soon as Gwern is back from school;  “You deserve a break after everything you’ve been through!” he insists.
"We can't just abandon the place!"
Dani protests that they cannot just abandon their responsibilities, but he tells her that he is going to cut her hours behind the bar, so that they can spend more time together.
"I'm going to ask Mathew to be assistant manager"
When he adds that he is going to ask Mathew to become assistant manager of the Deri,
This does not go down well with Dani
Dani looks very concerned.
Stacey is eager to get rid of Non . . .
Non appears at Maes-y-Deri, to check that Kath is all right after the revelation, but Stacey is keen to get rid of her;
. . . but Kath invites her in
Kath, however, invites her in, pointing out that what Dyff was getting up to was not her fault.
Non tells her, “I’ve been on my own since Mam died, and I wanted to have family somewhere – Mam only told me a little about him.”
"I'm not eight months yet!"
Sara is rushed into hospital, where she panics, “I’m not eight months yet!”
"Is she going to be all right?"
Jason is desperate for assurances that she will be all right.
"You must refuse the job, and leave Cwmderi!"
Dani instructs Mathew that he is to refuse the Assistant Manager’s job when it is offered, and must leave Cwmderi,
"I can't just pack up and leave!"
but he protests that he cannot just pack up and leave.   “There’s nothing to keep you here – I hope I’ve made that clear!” Dani goes on.
Garry offers him the job . . .
Then, as expected, Garry makes the offer, detailing the extra £2 per hour and the fact he will be in charge while they are away.
. . . and, to Dani's horror, he accepts, without hesitation
Much to Dani’s disgust, Mathew accepts the post, remarking, “That’s the best offer I’ve had for ages!”   Garry announces to the Deri’s patrons that the pub now has a new Assistant Manager.
Non looks at the family album
Kath offers Non a photo of the family and tells them all, “If you three want to get to know each other, I won’t stop you.   I’ll be fine –
"I knew that this day would come"
“I knew that this day would come, and it’s not fair that any of you should be punished for what Dyff and Non’s mother did.”
"Thanks, Mrs Jones"
Non agrees that she will call again on Friday, and she leaves, very happy, saying, “Thanks, Mrs Jones – you’ve no idea how much this means to me!”
"Not Mrs Jones – call me Kath!"
The reply is, “It’s not Mrs Jones – call me Kath!”
"Are you sure about this, Mam?"
Mark asks if his mother is sure about this, and she is adamant, “It’s the right thing to do,”
"It's probably what he would have wanted"
then she looks at a photo of Dyff and adds, “It’s probably what he would have wanted!”
